Key West Hat Company has a store here in Charleston and one in New Orleans but none that I know of in Key West. Hmmm? So I don't know from whence the name comes. But I do know that if you are in need of a hat or cap, this is the place to come to. The inventory here is huge with hats and caps of every type. It's particularly good if you are looking for the unusual that others won't be wearing. On the downside, for most comparable items that you might find elsewhere, the prices here are higher; in fact a lot higher. But most of what you find here you won't find elsewhere and everything here is of high quality. read more

Stumbled on this place during our first night in Charleston. Their display of hats were quite impressive. My husband got an everyday fedora hat. I got a mauve large shapely winter hat. The staff was friendly and helpful. Did not feel rushed. Downside was the prices. Many hats were starting off at $50. Nothing was on sale. They were good quality though. read more

I truly wanted to purchase one...as the only customer it would have been a perfect time, but the young lady was about as friendly and attentive as a vegan at a steakhouse. The best hat shoppe I've ever been in! Not caps/baseball etc but real hats, high quality, top names. The owner lives and breathes hats; very knowledgable and helpful. Great customer service. Door is open so get's a bit warm in there in the summer, AC not enough to keep cool, but maybe better so, like myself, people don't spend all day trying on hats for that "perfect one" (that I found!). Support your local businesses! Not only are prices the same or higher online, you can't tell the best fit for your head without trying them on. And if you don't find the hat you want, tell them. They will do what they can to find it or get it. I LOVE this store! So will you! read more

This is a great hat store. I wasn't going to bother reviewing it - but I have a special story. I was visiting Charleston and needed a hat to hide my head from the Southern sun. Key West had a nice selection of fedoras. I have trouble with hats - baseball hats feel sloppy and anything else feels affected or contrived or something. Fill in the word. Anyway, I got a nice fedora with a good solid brim - I didn't want something flimsy or droopy. Flash forward to my next stop, South Beach. I'm walking near the Mac on Washington and Lincoln at 10:00 a.m. when out of the blue a crazy guy slugs me as hard as he can on the side of my head as I pass. This was not a lot of fun, but the stiff brim of the fedora literally absorbed 90% of the blow like a shock absorber and protected my head and ear. You'll have to wait for another day to hear how I extricated myself from the madman's sights. I know he was surprised I just kept walking. For now, suffice it to say that the fedora from Key West Hat Company is in my Hall of Fame. This place sells hats, but the good luck is free! read more

Horrible! They sold me a hat and promised to ship to Texas. Of course it was the only hat in stock and only 3 weeks until the Derby. They shipped a different hat...lots of excuses and excess charges for the shipping. How disappointing, I never anticipated a retailer treating customers spending hundreds of dollars in their shop in that way. Never again! I should have carried it out and dealt with it on my lap during the flight home. You just cant trust anyone anymore for great customer service! read more
