I went to key bar last night with friends and I wasn't moved as I thought I was going to be. We were looking for a place with a good happy hour deal so we decided to to try key after seeing it on yelp. The drinks were 2 for 1. I had the freaky something and the keybar lemonade. The drinks were very weak. The waitress was not very attentive or engaging. The bathroom was gross. I was honestly bored. We left key bar and went to bOb's bar on Houston and it was a total 360! Keybar overall has a pretty dope vibe and is a chill hang out place to grab drinks. Their happy hour special is the best (basically 2 for 1 drinks on most options). The drinks are on the strong side & actually worth your money. As far as the music they play, it's a mix of pop & electronic from the times I've been there. It can be a hit or miss at times but the atmosphere inside is chill enough to where you get lost in the drink specials & conversations regardless. The biggest con of all is how small this location is. Their happy hour is great which obviously attracts a lot of people, especially in the summer. If you're trying to grab seats, definitely try to get there somewhat early, if not, you'll find yourself squeezing around hovering the bar & tables hoping a space miraculously frees up. They also do not serve food which I personally don't care too much about BUT, I will say it would be nice to have a few appetizer options during the day time. This is one of the best happy hour specials in the city by far. This place will always be crowded because of the insane deals they have. It's essentially buy 1, get one free (with the coupon card they give you). So if you buy a $10 drink, you can redeem it for a drink equal or lesser value. You also get a free shot on your birthdays! I use to go to this place religiously for 3 years every other day. It's the first time I actually discovered DELIRIUM TREMENS beer. This place will always hold a spot in my heart for all the fun times I had with my friends afterwork. Although it's been a while since I came here, my friend who freaking adores this place, always tells us to meet up here for drinks before we head out to Saint Marks. Keybar rocks!!!! I don't want anyone to know about it! I can't believe I'm actually reviewing it. This is pretty unselfish on my part. 2 for 1 drinks EVERY day of the week. On top of that, the drinks here are relatively cheap. When you order a drink, the bartnerder hands you a card that entitles you to a free drink. If you don't use it, you can use it on your next visit as it doesn't expire it. I usually stick to Gin or a yummy Hefe-Weisse (Hefeweizen) beer. The establishment is smaller than the usual bars that I frequent, but it's still cute and cozy. This is my pre-game spot. The whole point is to leave the office after 4 or 5 and get here quick and get sloshed and then head out for dinner. Or come here on a Saturday late afternoon and start drinking and then head out dancing or something! This place is good to come with friends and keep your bar tab cheap. Came here on a Monday night with three friends. The night of my 23rd bday. Wasnt sure what to do so we just made last minute plans to come to the city and have some drinks. All the rave about the happy hour is what led me here. The place was pretty much dead on a Monday night, which I guess was a good thing because it was so small. I think its a great place for a date because of the intimate setting. The drinks were good, just make sure you dont lose the little cards they give you otherwise, you'll be paying full price for the next drink. They dont have bar food but they did let us order wings from a place close by. It was a nice place but not a place to celebrate birthdays early in the week. Keybar has an awesome 2 for 1 Happy Hour from 4-10PM everyday. Let that sink in for a minute, what kind of place offers a happy hour deal until 10...everyday?! The decor is very cool with the glowing bar and the lights super dim. Their specialty shots are also very good, and my personal favorite is the 'Brain Damage,' it's got Bailey's and a bunch of other goodies in it. Their beer selection is also pretty darn good, they've got an Abita on tap! They've also got Pilsner Urquell and Blanche de Bruxelles from what I can remember. Be warned, there aren't many seats in this place, and it can get packed very quickly. I usually end up having to stand around the bar that is closest to the bathrooms, but for that deal, I can't complain. One of my new favorite bars in the area, mostly because of their sweet Happy Hour that lasts until 10PM. When you order a drink, they give you a card with the price of your drink and you can redeem it for another drink (of equal or lower price, for higher price, you can pay the difference). Unlike some other Happy Hours, you can use the card anytime in the future. So if you get a bit sloshed, take it easy. You can use your card the next time you destroy your liver and brain cells. The place is small though and can get very crowded, even on weekdays. They have a really good beer selection, of mostly imports, so be ambitious and give everything a try. It's 2 for 1! wow awesome. So yeah... We have over the course of the last few months gone into this place a few times a month and we can't be more happy to have a bar/lounge of this quality 3 blocks from our home. This place is actually so cool I'd travel here from across the city in a heart beat if we didn't live so close. Important things to note. Sundays bartender (who I'm too stupid to remember's name for the moment) Is a sweetheart of a girl who always remembers us and really knows how to make a drink. Sweet atmosphere, dimly lit, cool art, comfy seats everywhere. Great crowd, some gay, some straight, some hooking up in the corner all welcoming with no pretention. Zygo energy vodka in a few different drinks is really good and also relatively health compared to like redbull. They also use all natural fruit purees and ish for a lot of their higher end drinks. 4 stars for the happy hour here: 2 for 1 every day until 10PM and all night on Sundays and Mondays. Drinks are good if you're into sweet/fruity/girly drinks. I think the 2 for 1 deal includes certain beers as well, so there's something for everyone. Love love LOVE the little tickets they give out for your free drink. My friends weren't really in the mood to drink much since they hadn't eaten yet so I collected up 3 tickets and had myself a Mango Madras and two Shango Tangos for freeeeeeeee within 30 minutes. Well, I can't say I love the location. The only train that's really anywhere near it is the L and it looks pretty dingy and dive-y from the outside. On the inside, it's about the size of my apartment (okay-- maybe it's a little bigger, but I generally cap the amount of people I let in a little earlier than Keybar does, so it FEELS about the same size), but luckily Louis R. had saved me a seat at the bar, so I barely had to deal with the rush-hour-on-the-4-train-level crowd. Overall, the drinks were good (especially the spicy beer, whatever that was called), the music from what I can remember (strangely, not much) was good, and the crowd and vibe, despite my earlier complaining, was good. I'll go back especially because the drink special is pretty awesome, but it's definitely necessary to get there early or have a few drinks in you by the time you get there to deal with the amount of people in such a small space. read more
