Oh this is a club club, so dark and smoky you can really dance like no one's watching because no one can see anything. The fog machines keep it like that all night long, but you can look up at the big shiny disco ball as your north star to guide you through the place, which you may want to walk around to find the perfect spot to dance in all night. I was glad I had friends familiar enough with the space that they took us to an elevated area in the back that felt like a VIP lounge but was open to anyone meandering the space. This back area might not be ideal for those who like to stay close to the DJ, but for the rest of us olds who like it in the quieter area and like to sit from time to time, this spot was absolutely perfect. I went on a sweltering night, and though the ACs were on they weren't powerful enough to combat the heat emanating off all the hot and sweaty bodies around the club. You don't really go to a club like this to be comfortable though. The DJ was ok the night I went, but I was thankful to be with a great crew and for that back area so that I could sit from time to time. I went to this establishment and was shocked by the hostile, rude and aggressive staff. I came in about 45 minutes before closing and asked if it was possible to get a discounted entry since they were closing soon and there was no line - and said I would buy a drink inside(which I have done before). As soon as I walked in, I waved at the male employee inside door and he automatically said "I don't like your energy, hold on. I might not even let you in because of that" Then proceeded to patronize me, scream at me and wave his hands in my face, telling me to get the fuck out of here for even asking. I was speaking at a normal volume and he chose to make a scene, yelling and closely following my friends and I out - taunting us, trying to loudly embarrass and shame us for even asking for a discount - though we were already leaving... I asked a simple question and it could have easily just been a "no". Instead, I was mocked by a belligerent, condescending man that made me feel extremely unsafe. The other staff members also witnessed his deranged tirade and did nothing to mediate, and if anything, enabled him. I have been a patron of this venue before but never again. I have never experienced such disrespect and lack of professionalism from a front door person before. The place is not "good" enough to treat people this way. First time clubbing here and it's a pretty nice spot. It was packed with a lot of people jamming to the bopping lights and music. The line didn't take too long and we only had to pay $20 cover fee (FYI ITS CASH YALL!). The drinks are kinda strong which is good and there's some weird funny stuff that happens in the bathrooms but that's just how it is with clubs lol. Good Room is a good time on a Friday night, even when the weather is not ideal. There are two DJ rooms. Personally, the smaller room is more intimate. Drinks are reasonably priced and the music by DJ/4AM The only thing that annoyed me was having to wait in line with an advanced purchase of a ticket. In fact, the ticketed line was longer than those who didn't have tickets. Maybe consider prioritizing those of us who made advance plans? lol With that said, the wait was only about 15-20 minutes. 1st time here... Came for a Prince vs MJ party by DJ Spinna. It was the two year anniversary of Prince's death. This place was packed! Hot and sweaty and a peaceful crowd who just wanted to jam to MJ and Prince all night!!! I loved the disco ball and the lighting. Hard to say if I liked the place or not. Just so you'll know - I'm a hyper-critical *b* when it comes to dance clubs. I'm a life-long, literally card carrying member of the dance club culture for oh - 35 years now. I have some VERY strong opinions about clubs. I'm a fantastic dancer; pretty informed about dance music; and an interior and lighting designer. I've been friends and educated by and worked with some luminary figures in the club lighting / design world. There are a LOT of things that I want to do to the Good Room. Aesthetically. It's not the most gorgeous club any of us has seen. Nope. (Though there is a Chihuly chandelier in the little ante-chamber next to the Bad Room.) I personally LOVE the traffic flow around the dance floor. And though I can be critical of the lighting, when they actually have someone there that knows what their doing (operating the lights) it's a very competent lighting scheme in the main space, The "Good Room." Lighting in the smaller "Bad Room" is pretty disappointing, honestly. I don't go all the time. And I go through phases where I find myself there more or less. But it's been a couple of years and I just love the place. I've been there on weeknights and weekends. I've been to house parties, techno parties, gay nights, mostly straight nights, older crowds, younger crowds. A very diverse roster of happenings. They have a commitment to serious DJs. Great sound. Really nice staff - including the owner. He seems super chill and personable. Fabulous parties, always. I always have a GREAT time there. I'll admit for whatever reason I have two female friends that REFUSE to go there. No kidding. I don't know why. They just "don't like it." So there is that. Came here to see Andy Stott and all his lot this past weekend. I had a great time! It is a bumpin, soggy, sweaty joint with fog machines throughout. The red lighting in the Bad Room made you feel like you were in Satan's record library, with a level of bass that will make your head spin. In between is this small sitting area with couches and black light, perfect for your k-hole/make out session. The main room has SURROUND sound, and Andy Stott's set literally sent me into an otherworldy frenzy of dub techno deep ambient geniusness! The drinks are strong, the bartenders are super, people at the door are cool but just doing their job. I felt safe, welcomed and a little lost in the rabbit hole. I missed out on the $15 advance online ticket sale, then the line for at the door sales just wasn't going anywhere. Not even for the cute Japanese girls. Luckily someone needed to unload 3 tickets. Unluckily, I wasn't able to haggle down from $25. I might have been able to hardball it, but I really wanted in and it was raining. Okay, you're an adult. You do adult things like drink. Step it up a notch and pay the lousy 3 bucks for the damn coat check. It's hot as balls in there and do you really want to spend time that could be spent dancing your ass off, keeping an eye on your coat? Or having PBR spilled all over it? No. Get all your drinks first thing. You have to pass it to get to the main room anyway. And fighting the crowd with drinks in hand is not fun. The bar is understaffed, but the bartenders are friendly and quick. Or you can do what Mr. Smooth did... Offer to pay for my drink if I ordered all of his. He got his drinks in no time flat. Capitalism is grand. Again, IT'S HOT AS HADES IN HERE. Pro-tip: if you stand near the seating area by the DJ booth, it's MUCH cooler. The sound system is super focused out onto the dance floor. So if you sit at a table and order bottle service, you'll actually be able to hear each other speak. I don't think the seating is policed either, so you can plop down whether you order or not. The main dance floor gets unreasonably packed. There's a second, smaller room, but I didn't hit it until 4AM and it had emptied out considerably. I had better luck dancing along the edge with the seating, but like I pointed out, you don't get the full force of the music that way, and none of the bone rattling bass. People smoke in here. It's as simple as that. They do other things in here too. But don't be the asshole chick waving her cigarette around like she's Bette Fucking Davis. Keep the lit end towards you and inconspicuous, because they will throw you out if you get caught. Overall, a very good dance club... if you can make it out onto the dance floor to get the full experience of the music. Or if you're a pro like Mr. Smooth at getting drinks. read more

Went to Bound at Good Room on 1/31/20, first time at this venue. This could be a 4-5 star venue. It's so close: spacious, good mix of rooms, legit sound system, etc. But there's one reason I won't be going back, unless it's 100% fixed: smoking tobacco in the venue. There's a room called the "Small Room," next to one of the small dance rooms, and apparently this is a smoking room? Inside the venue? I don't think it's listed as one, but people were smoking in there with impunity. Cigarettes, blunts, etc. Blowing it right into the small adjacent dance room. My head exploded. A) how is this licensed (it can't be) and B) how is the staff just totally oblivious? There is zero excuse for this. A few vape hits in the venue, who cares. A room full of people smoking cigs and blunts??? That blows into the adjacent dance room? Maybe that's OK for some people, but that's more than enough to keep me from going to a venue ever again. Another annoyance: coat check will not accept a photo of your stub, they require the actual piece of paper. You can pull up a pic of the ticket stub that was clearly taken right there at coat check, and the dudes will reject it. Very very lame. @Good Room, if you fix the tobacco smoking issue, I'll be happy to come back. We go out pretty regularly and I would be happy to have this venue in the rotation. But tobacco smoke makes me sick, so I won't be going there unless I know that people won't be smoking tobacco inside. And re-visit the coat check policy. It's lame. read more

This place was great! My 1st time coming here was over the weekend for a Prince vs Michael Jackson party. At first, there wasn't a line so we thought once we found parking, we would just take in the scenery around the area and then go in later. Once we we actually walked there, the line grew tremendously and we found out upon walking in that the place was packed! There is cool art drawing outside of the club that I didn't necessarily get a chance to take a picture of. The bouncers at the door were pretty efficient although they never asked for ID. Once we got in, we walked up a steep flight of stairs and walked into a fairly hot/humid party lol. The energy was exhilarating, everybody seemed to be having a GREAT time! There is a cool disco ball at the top in the middle of the dance floor and they have cool strobe lights throughout the club! Since this is in Brooklyn, you should already know you have to circle the block a few times for parking. Fortunately for us, we were able to find parking pretty quickly. I've always been impressed by the acts Good Room can bring in, so coming for their free (with RSVP) holiday party seemed like a great time to come. Well, "free" around the holidays also lends itself to not the best artists - free tip, folks - but I'm still glad I was able to visit the space. Overall, I really liked how well the space was planned out, but part of Good Room's charm is certainly that it is small, so, depending on the show, this space can feel a little claustrophobic while having a lot of character. The large bar is central to the two rooms and easily accessible. The two rooms are separate enough that the music doesn't bleed into each other, which is impressive. The main room (good room) has a great vibe, good lights, and some decent perimeter seating. The smaller side room (bad room) is so tiny. So, so tiny. I'm not sure why it needed to be so tiny. It can get very tight, and it can be hard to squeeze through the average-sized doorway when it's packed. Drinks are expensive, but that is the scene these days. Only two beer options. On this given night, I wasn't particularly impressed with the DJs, but after doing my homework next time, I definitely look forward to coming back. read more

I went here for Tiki Disco on Oct 26th 2019. It was super crowded and had a very aggressive crowd who were mostly standing around, altogether the people kind of ruined the experience. The DJ set was the worst I had been to in years with awkward breaks in the music which killed any flow I might have been getting into. The lighting was just terrible, alternating between just turning on the white lights, a single color bar, and strobes. The dance floor was a slippery swamp of spilled drinks and vaping douche bags. Came here for a show. I wouldn't recommend ever coming here for an event. There are only four women's bathroom stalls for the entire venue that can have hundreds of people coming and going in one night. It's extremely poor planning and frankly gross. The place is really hot and uncomfortable and their fog machine can make it difficult to breath. The bartenders were nice, but the guys that work at the door are assholes. I went to Good Room last week to see Bondax (a DJ duo) perform. Overall it was a good show, but there really wasn't anything special about this venue. You have the typical big room that acts as the dance floor and is where the musicians perform, then you have the room where the bar is, the stereotypical make-out room lined with couches, and then this random smaller little dance room that had puke all over the floor. Amazingly the puke room still had people dancing around the vomit - can't stop; won't stop, I guess. Drinks were so overpriced it was laughable. I hadn't had much to eat that day, so when I ordered a cranberry vodka I told the bartender to please make it super light because I didn't want to be sick. She obliged, and then charged me $14 for my cranberry juice with a splash of alcohol. Decent vibes overall, but I attribute the majority of the fun I had to the company I was with, and not the venue itself. Truth is, I probably won't be back here, because I may have outgrown the club scene and want to accept this reality before I become like the middle aged guys hanging out here trying to reclaim their youth. read more

The Good Room is in fact good, but could definitely use some improvements to make it great. To start, what the hell were they thinking with those bathrooms? Only providing two stalls for the guys and four for the girls and for most of them, you can't even open the stall door fully because they are just that small. Please remodel the bathrooms at some point, I'm begging! Unfortunately, the lighting in the Good Room is not very good either! They rarely use the disco ball and rather than the lights going with the beat of the music it just felt like random strobes everywhere. Take some notes from Schimanski because that lighting system is seriously amazing! The sound was pretty great imo in both the Good and Bad Rooms, but as others have said numerous times, the Bad Room absolutely takes the cake for both vibes and music and this is coming from someone who actually came to see the dj playing in the Good Room. Shoutout to Balako and Razor-N-Tape, you guys were absolutely amazing throwing down some funky disco beats! Lastly, the crowd the night I was there was WEIRD....bad vibes all around, not a lot of dancing, girls fighting in the bathroom, etc....and I have a feeling that a lot of the people there were there because it was free entry before midnight. It was very apparent that many people there didn't like the music and were not there to dance, but rather just wanted to go out on a Friday night. It's just a completely different experience when people pay $40-$50 to see someone they love, than the people who are drawn to a free event, so just keep this in mind if you're going to a free show there....crowd might suck! TL;DR I see a lot of potential for the Good Room as as a club, but it still has a lot of work to do if it wants to truly compete with the other music venues right around the corner. read more

As dawn broke, the fog rolled in and she thought to herself, "What if I'm wrong about this?" Lake Arrowhead was calm and the fog was slow moving; she drove up for the night, alone, to soak in the silence and reflect. Her boyfriend of two years was going to propose to her in a week. He thought his secret was safe but she found the email to her father laying out all the details. She wasn't sure when she became sure, but she knew this was not what she wanted. That day, she drove back to Los Angeles and broke up with him. A year had gone by and now she was leaning up against the glass window of a TD Ameritrade in Greenpoint, on line for a club called Good Room. After a year of excuses, her friends had finally convinced her to come out. She was still not over the breakup and she was willing to try anything to get herself out of this mood she was stuck in. They were let in, and she ascended the staircase. She could hear the muffled sound of the music getting louder and as her friends grew excited, she grew anxious, "Two roads diverged in a yellow wood, and sorry I could not travel both..." the beginning of a poem she had memorized to help her cope with her anxiety. It usually worked. They reached the club and she got her first look at the place. It was packed and she was immediately turned off, but her friends did not seem surprised. "What are you drinking!!?" Her friend yelled over the music. "What do they have?" "What!!!!????" "What do they have?" "Come on!!!!!!" her friend commanded as she walked off, giving up on the conversation. It was a dumb question anyway. They reached the bar. Despite the place being crowded it was surprisingly easy to order a drink. "Here, this is vodka with something called club-mate that we really like, they don't always have it" She drank it and loved it, "This is something Henry would have liked" she almost thought to herself - but didn't. "What do I owe you?" She asked her friend. "Don't worry about it, it was cheap." She was surprised. It hadn't cost them much to get into the place either, even though the DJ playing that night was pretty well known. She thought it had to cost a lot of money to go out in New York, but not at Good Room, "And be one traveler long I stood, and looked down one as far as I could..." she continued with her anxiety poem but realized she didn't need it. She wasn't sure if it was the poem, the second sip of her drink, or the music picking back up, but she wasn't anxious anymore, she was excited, euphoric, and beginning to have fun. She looked out at the dance floor and it suddenly didn't seem crowded anymore. Sure, there were a lot of people, but they were happy, positive, not in each other's way, not bothering each other. Just enjoying the music. She almost didn't notice her friends walking off when her buddy grabbed her by the arm, "We're going to dance now!!!" and so they did. They danced all night. At one point she noticed her friends and realized this was normal for them, this is what their nights out were like. One of the best nights of her life and for them: just another Saturday. It was a bitter-sweet feeling, sad she had been missing out on so much, but happy to be there now... She went back to herself, danced, lost track of time... And as dawn broke, a different kind of fog rolled in, and she thought to herself, "What if I'm wrong about this?" read more

Came here on Saturday night and the crowd was one of the worst I ever saw in my life. Everyone was shirtless and just making out. What's the point to come to a techno party and be like that? After going up and realizing there was smoke which did not make me feel good, I went straight back down and politely asked for a refund since I was barely there and feeling UNWELL. I hadn't visited good room for quite a while until the other day. The space itself is still pretty worn down but I did notice a few changes since my last visit. They did some construction on the face of the building and it looks a bit better, especially since that scaffolding it out of the way. You can actually see the venue now. The DJ both used to be in the back corner but they moved it and now it's centered in the main room. Entering the venue is a bit backwards. They line you up on the left but that's the door they use to exit. On the right is somewhat of a smoking area but if there's more than one or two people they chase you away across the street. When you do enter you use the right hand side door. I think it would be easier to line people up on the right but I suppose they don't want a crowd having out near the Police precinct. The room does a good job of containing the sound since it's up a flight of stairs. Entry fees vary depending on what type of party is going on that night. The sound system isn't too bad. It's pretty loud and thumpin' yet I didn't get tinnitus which is a good sign. The dance floor is medium sized in relation to the size of the entire space. The main room takes up about half of the upstairs. The is a side room that usually plays a different style of music and has some seating around the edges. There is a section for VIP and tables along the back wall of the main room. The bar area is unnecessarily large. They could fit about 20 more bartenders back there easily. The bathrooms are off to the side and the stalls are in shambles. Don't lean you may just knock the whole thing down. No real bathroom attendant. Supplies run out quickly so be sure to stash some tissue for a future visit. Drink prices are below city prices but average for the area. The drinks are moderately strong depending on who's doing the pour. The wait time to get a drink is pretty quick and service is also pretty fast. The vibe overall is mostly young to older crowds which come out to dance. Generally they're pretty friendly. It does get kind of hot in here and the fog machines are on overdrive. I wish it was the AC on overdrive instead. Don't lose your friends, hold hands when going through the crowd if you need to. It's going to be difficult to find them in all that haze. Don't expect anything fancy, do expect a cold drink, good music, and dancing. read more

Very good servers and very sort of intimate place. I have been all over the nightlife scene in NYC, this place just felt like a good spot to me. I was even considering coming here for NYE, they had a long open bar for only $55 I believe that included entrance fee. I liked the actual dance floor but the night I was there it was not crowded at all. I can imagine how nice the atmosphere would be on another night. Good Room is my favorite venue in all of New York. Why? From the bartenders to the acts they book, everything is simply top notch. Cover charge is extremely cheap, and the door price is never ridiculous if you didn't buy a ticket ahead of time (typically $20). It has a massive dance floor that has more than enough room to move around, even on a packed night. The lighting is dark and minimal, with a disco ball in the main room. The Bad Room is the side room and my favorite part about the place. It usually caters to artists that play more mellow music than in the main room. It's small and intimate and the vibe in there is usually awesome. The drink prices are actually pretty cheap, a Tecate was $6. Tip your bartenders well here because they are the best, kindest, and funniest people I've ever had serving me drinks. They also have pitchers of water with cups at the bar which can be acquired for no cost. Thank you so much for doing this! They care about their customers and it shows. Don't ever change, Good Room! I really like the atmosphere of the Good Room! It's dark, foggy and spacious... Then there's the Bad Room which is a smaller room with a shelve of records and lights that gives off an eerie vibe. Went to Good Room on my quest to explore Brooklyn music venues. Had a lot of fun and was surprised by the quality despite being in 'faraway' Greenpoint. Since the space hosts smaller names, the vibe is grungy and hipster compared to other venues and I loved being able to wear anything (although some girls in groups did put on sparkles and tight skirts). Club got going after midnight! Coat check is very smooth ($3 per item). The main stairway leads into the larger music room with semi curved leather couches all around and a bar with Manhattan-priced drinks (though strong). A smaller music room off the bar room had slightly more upbeat toons at the time. Despite the crowd being overall young, there was an old man in a tracksuit sitting/sleeping on a bench in the smaller room. I can only say this with 95% confidence because of extremely heavy fog that limited my vision to a few feet. read more

Meanwhile there were so few people here the smoke machine took up more space than guests. This place supposed to be the next best thing in New York. I think they still have a long way to go. We got there around 11 on a Saturday night, the place was almost empty. At 1 AM you couldn't breathe, since the place got very crowded. The DJ did a good job, and the sound system is great if you care about those thing. A glass of Vodka and Red Bull will cost you 16$. And the funny thing was that when I asked for extra shot of Vodka, they charged me 32$!! For a small plastic (As you can see in the picture). The line to the bathroom after 1 AM become ridiculous, and you can easily spend 20 minutes or more till you get inside. I am sure they will improve, since the place in nice, and the people who work there even nicer. But they will have to get a more professional bartender, which will know that an extra amount of Vodka doesn't mean double the price, especially when you serve your drinks in glasses that usually in neighborhood parties. read more
