Their commercials are LOUD which I hate because most of the people in them yell or they have some wacked out music from 1988 blaring in the background. But then I think of "Austin's watching FOX! Austin's watching FOX!" I can forgive them for the noise. I only really want to watch 2 to 3 hours of judge shows when I get the day off, so taking a full day and afternoon of the programming is out of the question. I do thoroughly enjoy that good 2 to 3 hours of Judge Alex and Judge Joe Brown and Judge Judy (the best!) and, again, half the fun is the commercials. You get crazy David Komie "I don't look like a lawyer, but it helps me sneak up on them" and whoever that Funk guy is yelling and parading around that Hummer he painted with his name all over it. I hate the Allied Health Careers and business school ones though, and I think if I watched them everyday the irritation of them alone would have me interviewing everywhere within a week. The best thing about Fox 7 is just how sensational and over the top it is. I love that. I love that their newscasts have names like Fox 7 News Edge First at Nine! I think they could add a "2 the X-treme!" in there somewhere to really drive it over the top. But for now, that'll do. Fox 7 is just very entertaining all around to watch and I really appreciate how much fun it is when I go home and watch bland boring Shreveport newscasts where you want to poke the newscasters with a stick to get some life out of them. One more thing! I love how they are letting children do the weather reports in the morning. When it's not precious, it's hilarious. I've been switching over from GMA more and more.

Listening to this station, is the soundtrack to keeping Austin Weird. Since it's all local volunteers, the music selections are as diverse as the music tastes in the Live Music Capitol of the World! Seriously, if you don't like the music here, just wait a little bit. Just like the weather in Texas! The DJs change out every few hours, and each one brings their own selection of weird music. You're not going to hear Top 40 on here. I like the fact that there's no real advertisements on this station. They're all public service announcements, and local issues that they talk about. The coolest thing about this station is that if you wanna get on the radio badly enough, they'll put you on the air, and provide the training on how to do it! KOOP's mission is "to engage, connect and enrich the whole community, including the underserved, through creating diverse, quality, educational music and news programming." They fulfill their mission!

I suppose up until that point, I just misunderstood the station. Especially the switch over to the UT station which seems to have a constant stream of kids talking about Star Wars. Anyways, back to KOOP. The community sponsored station is run by volunteers and it shows in their programming. They play what they like and they want everyone else to hear. Turn it on, then sit back and enjoy.

You see, this was my favorite station when I lived in Texas, and after having visited Austin for the weekend, I decided to Yelp about it. It's not a "pure" local country station. It's corporate - part of Clear Channel. But I don't care... so long as it has good country music. (Corporations aren't bad just because they're successful at what they do.)I've been starved of my Country music since our bay area country station went off the air, so this was a breath of fresh air. To be honest, I prefer Tennessee Country to Texas Country (I know, shame on me,) and for those who don't know, most every one of the nationally known Country artists are Tennessee Country. You know, the ones that head to Memphis in search of stardom. Anyway I do miss the city. So I'll admit part of this review is nostalgia. But I had my radio tuned to KASE for my entire weekend... except for a short stint on some other country station that billed itself as Austin's own radio station, except after accidentally setting KASE to the preset that the other station was on, I couldn't find it again. Five stars for "will always listen to this when I'm in town. And will listen to it online whenever I need my country fix."

This is a Christian radio station that makes no compromises. Sure, there are things I wish were a…read morelittle different -- like I wish they would give the names of the singers or bands or even the names of the songs they play, but I also understand that they are working on a thin (though strong surviving) shoestring budget and they are not here to advertise anyone's name other than Christ Jesus. I used to find this channel hard to listen to because they asked for money SO often. It's especially hard to listen to that when you wish you could give them all they needed and can't. But this year I have checked them out again and they are no longer asking for money all the time and I can relax and really enjoy the excellent programming of Christian music (most songs of which I have never heard and have no idea who is singing them) with a wide spectrum of variety of Christian music, including (less often) songs sung in Spanish praising the Lord, and even rap and hip-hop. There are a few songs which I'm kind of tired of hearing that are obviously the station masters' favorites, but hey, I can't complain. I am VERY impressed by the sermons they play on this station. I have found them incredibly sound in Bible doctrine. I do wish the sermons would be rotated more often. The repetitions on this channel keep me from just leaving the radio on all the time on this station. I can only handle just so much repetition -- and those who are programming the channel don't seem to realize that some people would listen to them 24/7 if they would add a LOT more variety in songs and sermons. Hey, but beggars can't be choosers, and we are living in a famine of the Word in our world today, so I'll take the crumbs and still give it 5 stars. This channel has been running in Austin for some 30 years and I am very, very grateful to those who have made it happen -- and without hardly any commercials ever. (They have allowed one or two commercials through in the six years I have listened to them on and off, but I haven't heard even one commercial this year -- though I, again, do not listen all the time.) When I give this channel a 5-star rating, it is partly because I'm grading on a curve. While it is not in my opinion the best it could be, at the same time it is the best Christian station I have ever listened to!

They play a lot of commercials, but do some good programming. Their country is less Nashville, and more Austin, highlighting artists from the Texas area. They play a lot of the classic country as well. The DJs take requests and give local weather and traffic updates throughout the day. The radio presentation is slick and professional, with nationally airing ads played regularly. They also hold the annual KokeFest, a celebration of KOKE. It's some big country bands! I enjoy how many of their songs are about drinking beer, trucks, and prison.
