What happened that was amazing is that when I showed an interest, the staff (Jose) jumped in and told me what to try and also got a variety of items that would ripen over the next few days. I probably learned more about fruit shopping than I have anywhere else. I also got to procure a Mamey which is native to Cuba and rare in the United States. It actually qualifies as a berry even though it is more like an avocado in size and density but tastes like a jackfruit had a baby with an almond tree and is the consistency of a flan when very ripe. I got the best dragonfruit of my life here and the oranges were great as well as the tomatoes. You know how awful grocery store tomatoes are? These are the home grown taste tomatoes. It was suggested that we get a strawberry onion which is an onion grown in the strawberry fields. It was incredibly sweet when grilled. The juice (I recognize as aqua fresca) in the case was delicious and we drank countless of these while in the area. We ended up in a longer chat about food and places to eat and got some great advice. I absolutely love this place and am eating my bodyweight in freshness daily!

We picked up black berries, peppers, tomatoes, lettuce, mango,oranges, melon, carrots, and more!!! We also picked up a delicious guacamole and more dog treats! But then after getting home I realized that the quality of fruit was poor. For one the melon we picked up had a sticker on it and not a sticker from a farm but rather one with a sku number which leads me to believe that the fruit and veggies sold at the market isn't organic or locally grown...at least the fruit from the one stand. This is highly disappointing and I've never come across this at any other farmers markets that I've attended. The blackberries were moldy. The mango was moldy within a day. The cherries were not good. And the oranges were dry. Was bummed, had hoped to support this market while down here on vacation, but I won't be back. I am giving 3 stars for effort and in hopes that the organizers of this market will continue to improve.

My favorite part, and honestly the main reason I keep coming back, is La Fontana Verde. If you love herbs, teas, tinctures, and natural wellness, do yourself a favor and stop in. The owners are incredibly kind, patient, and knowledgeable. My family and I always end up asking a million questions, and they never make us feel rushed. They genuinely care and are always willing to share their knowledge. It's become our go-to herb shop. The produce selection at the market is huge, and it's actually kind of fun comparing prices between vendors. My only wish is that there were more certified organic fruits and vegetables available. If organic produce is your top priority, that may be a downside. But if you're looking for seasonal fruits, including seeded watermelons (yes, fruit is supposed to have seeds!), you'll find plenty of options. Another bonus is that parts of the market are covered, so even if Florida decides to randomly rain on your plans, you can still enjoy walking around. Overall, Redland Market Village is a South Florida staple. Come for the produce, stay for the Seeded fruit, and definitely don't leave without stopping by La Fontana Verde.
