I'm no milk tea connoisseur by any means, so go ahead and take my review with a grain of salt. First off, the list of flavors at Kung Fu is enormous, and include a lot of flavors I haven't the slightest idea of how they'd taste. I've had the honey tea and oreo teas so far, and have enjoyed both thoroughly. The regular size is decent, but I'd say most people opt for the large cups. The crowds and wait times can be long and unpredictable, but they keep things moving at a steady pace. As an aside, the parking lot is terribly designed, with one way lanes throughout. There is a security guard standing on one of the corners that will yell at you if you are driving in the wrong direction. Sorry, dude! read more

I see why this place is the new hot thing around town. It's tucked away off of 495 in Annandale in a shopping center with H Mart. There are so many delicious options like slushies, milk teas, juices and bubble teas. The thing I love the most is you can choose how much ice and sugar you want, from light to heavy. You also can choose toppings such as bubble, jelly and pudding. A medium size is about 3.75 and a large is 4.25, not bad at all! I tried the coconut milk tea and it was the perfect sweetness. I tried my mom's bubble tea which is taro milk green tea and it was very delicious, I will have to get my own next time. Decided to try this place today with my family. This place is definitely overhyped. The decor and setup was nice. They have all different types of teas in either a medium or large size. My husband got the passion fruit slushy with bubbles and I got the KF milk tea with bubbles. My milk tea tasted very watered down and wasn't all that great. I've had better. They were really crowded and so many employees and we waited a long time for our order. I was thrilled to see this place in Annandale... Finally something from the west coast lol Boba Teas around here ( at various Asian places) are so underwhelming and taste like grounded iced tea. Kung Fu Tea is different. You can customize everything here; from boba/herbal jelly/mung beans/pudding to extra sweet- zero sweet... I always get their milk tea with herbal jelly. They have soy milk too. They use milk powder ( non-dairy. YAY I can drink this!) but if you want, they can use a whole milk too. They use good quality ingredients. I love their milk tea. It's always packed whenever I go to kung fu tea but the taro green tea is soooo damn good. That's why I keep coming back!! Service is alright. Nothing special. Interior is nice and clean. I checked this place out for the first time tonight. I was expecting a long wait but it didn't take that long ultimately. I ordered the KF milk tea with bubbles and jelly. A large size, regular ice , regular sweetness. I didn't find it too sweet. I think I'll be back to check out more combinations. But I think I may prefer snocream Shavery's sno tea more because you can get more flavors of jellies at snocream. I teeter between 4 and 5 stars because there are many things this KF location does well. Friendly workers (who make you feel appreciated for being a customer), a clean and spacious hangout space, sweet, chewy, yummy boba balls, milk teas are made well, and there is NO!! credit card minimum (major points for this function). But not completely five stars because there is no Earl Grey milk tea. Now, one of the workers I was chatting with told me Kung Fu changed their menu two weeks ago and took out the Earl Grey milk tea, but having been exposed to its deliciousness at a Boston KF location - I have gone Earl Grey and I can't turn away. read more

TL;DR - Best boba in NoVA. Line is long but moves at a decent pace as long as you KNOW WHAT YOU WANT BEFORE YOU GET TO THE REGISTER. Drinks I recommend if you are trying to avoid diabetes: -Oolong Milk Tea, half-sweet, with (egg/custard) pudding and no ice. Tastes nutty. -Winter Melon Milk Green Tea, full sweet, with boba and little ice. Tastes like...a smooth green tea with absolutely no trace of bitterness or melon (don't be misled by the name!). As a bubble tea addict, I've tried it all. I'll even travel to MD just to get my fix. When I heard KFT was opening up in Annandale, 10 minutes from my house, I was so excited. I've never been to any KFT chains before so I had no idea what to expect. Walking in, decor was very nice, relaxing and clean. The menu was huge it was almost overwhelming. Unfortunately, they barely opened so their service was a bit slow and they ran out of bubbles. But the manager/owner was very accommodating and offered to give me as many toppings as I would like to make up for their kinks. I ordered the white gourd green tea which was deeeeeelicious. I'm not big on milky or creamy drinks so next time I'm going to ask for no milk. I also got the peach oolong which was perfect. Most bubble tea places make their drinks too sweet with more syrup than the tea itself, but KFT not only gives you a good balance standardly, they also give you the option to choose your level of sweetness! Ugh I tried two drinks on my first visit and was impressed by one, and mildly disgusted by the other. I'll probably be back to give Kung Fu another shot but as of now I can't give it more than 3 stars. The taro tea with boba and pudding was delicious! The flavor was just right and it wasn't too sweet. The boba was perfectly soft and chewy! ..On the other hand, the brown sugar almond tea with boba was just plain GROSS. It was served hot, which was great for the rainy cold day I visited on. However, it was all powdery. Like there was actual powder in every sip - not good.... I hated the grainy texture in my mouth and barely even drank a quarter of this drink. The almond flavor was also that super fake almond extract type of flavor. Bleh. So disappointing. read more

I learned the hard way that their standard drinks are way too sweet and that I always have to ask for less sweet, especially when adding nata jelly or other puddings that add more sweetness to it. As long as you make sure the drinks are ordered less sweet, you can't go wrong. The line here is what kills me. I wish their set up was the opposite so that order counter was on the right side so the line would wrap from right to left. In order for you to walk out with a drink, you need to at least commit 20 min of your time. This is not a place where you can just walk in and out with a drink. Once the drink is ordered, it doesn't take very long to get. I'd go back more often if this wasn't the case. read more

Upon entering, I was immediately punched in the face by an overwhelming selection of teas and a huge crowd of Asians all grouped together in their cliques. After waiting in line for about 15 minutes, I ordered a Taro boba with 50% sugar. I also got the boba balls for an extra 50 cents because I'm worth it. The drink itself is overly sweet for just 50% sweet. But other than that, the quality of the stuff is very good. I live right next to this one but the drinks and service always disappoints. Whenever I order a slush, I always have to freeze it at home. It is always watery. I'm a huge fan of Bubble Tea, Kung Fu tea was near the top of the list when it first opened years ago in Queens, NY. Recently, they just fall short of what I think makes a great bubble tea place. I came here a few times only because there isn't that many choices around and I've gotten good to not so good drinks. Pros: Their selection is huge compared to other places, warm, hot, cold, you name it! They have so many ingredients so if you are craving red bean, pudding, jelly, they have it all. Cons: Long lines, crowded, nothing really special. One time I asked for 50% sweet and they gave me 120%, good thing i'm not diabetic and I was just trying to watch my calorie intake. I started drinking and was thinking "whoa! 50% sugar this is really good stuff tastes great!"... (I like my sweet drinks) but then realized on the sticker it said 120% sugar... great there goes my 45 min run I did earlier. It's not a bad option for the NoVA area considering we don't have as many bubble tea places compared to NYC and LA. But I think that overall SnoCream truck is much better and it's right down the street. While they don't have as many options I just think it's better bang for the buck, less wait even on crowded days, and tastes better too. read more

It's really good. It's crowded and noisy but that's what boba shops are. Make sure you customize your ice and sugar levels. It's really really sweet if you get it at 100%. Try 50% sugar. My go-to bubble tea place! After my favorite bubble tea place in Eden Center changed owners which eventually changed the taste of the drinks, it took me a while to find another place to go to. Then I found out this place opened! Sometimes the wait is about 20-30 mins from start to finish but I always find that it's worth it. My favorite flavors are honey green tea and Kung fu milk tea with less sugar. Their bubbles are the perfect texture and I love the pudding and herbal jelly. I really enjoy the fact that you can alter the sweetness of the drink to your liking which is something you can't do anywhere else. I come here pretty much every week :) read more

As a bubble tea place, the tea is above par. However the design of the place is great, especially as an introductory bubble tea place. It lists the information to adjust the sweetness, ice and type of "bubble". While most places I've been to are willing to adjust accordingly, this place actually listed it. I've been to kung fu tea once thus far and I ordered the black milk tea. It wasn't long after opening so there was a long line due to the hype. The tea was pretty good but a little too sweet for my liking. It's fine though because I have a more savory palette than a sweet one so for anyone else it'll be yumms! I asked for no boba and it's a good thing I did because they unfortunately ran out and a lot of people had to wait an extra 10-15 minutes. I think they're still having issues due to the unexpected amount of customers, but when I went the cashier lady (assuming she's either the owner or manager) was super helpful with the extensive menu for us first timers and did not rush us despite the long line behind us. Also due to the fact that there were a lot of bodies in the small cafe there was a slightly unpleasant odor.. but I'm nitpicking. Pretty good! I ordered the mango slush but they put jelly instead of bubble. More on that later.. The line took approximately 30 minutes but it gave us some time to look at what they have to offer. I placed an order for three large mango slushes and only two of them with bubbles. I ended up getting three identical mango slushes all with JELLY... :| I really liked the mango slush but they really need to pay attention to the orders because I'm not the only one who had an incorrect order (judging from the other reviews). Awesome bubble tea. I haven't had bubble tea in a long time because I never really found a place I liked...until now. Even better that they're in NoVA. The place is pretty standard but has an extensive list. They have the option of different ice amounts, different sweetness levels, and different "toppings". I got the coffee milk tea - less ice and less sweet. Only added bubble. No "pudding"...which is actually more gelatinous than normal pudding consistency. Kind of had the taste of custard jello (had a sample of it). If there is such a thing. Anyway, didn't think it would go with my coffee milk tea so I left it out. My wife got the frozen pineapple slush with bubbles. The coffee milk tea was good. I think next time I will have it with normal everything. It was warmer than I had hoped. I was expecting a much colder drink. And the sweetness level was fine, but just want to know how sweet normal was. I read so many people getting less sweet or no sweetness so I thought maybe the regular sweetness was too much but after tasting the less sweet, I'm thinking regular sweetness is probably not that bad. Tapioca bubbles were really good. Nice and soft. Wasn't hard or have hardened pieces. Hate that. Wife's pineapple slush was good also. I think I liked it better because it was colder, which I was expecting my drink to be. And after having a taste of hers, it made my drink taste even less sweet. Definitely recommend this place. It's new, it's hip and it's cool. It's a new type of boba drink that we have not seen here. The boba drinks are milk based which makes it much better for consumption and taste rather than the crushed ice or slush version. The menu is very large, so they have a myriad of choices to choose from. The big thing about this place is they allow you to customize yours to your liking: sugar level, ice level, and toppings. While I was eating at Pho 75 off route 50 I heard some folks sitting next to us mention Kung Fu Tea, my ears perked up and I got a little excited, I thought maybe there was one in the local area now since I had been to one on the UES in NYC. I know this is a chain franchise and my friend is so happy to have one here in NOVA. So we went there on Saturday for grand opening. Milk tea suppose use lots of milk. However I didn't see bottles of gallon milk in the store. I saw them pour three spoons of powder from a plastic box into the cups. Well if it's milk powder then the price of the tea is expensive. Same time not healthy. Chinese parents never use domestic produced milk powder to the new-born babies. I wish they have qualified vendors but who knows. read more

I've had Kung Fu Tea in New York City, so I know how it is. It's about time that a chain milk tea franchise have come to serve northern VA. I usually travel very far for some boba tea drinks, such as Ten Ren in both Rockville and College Park, MD; Jumbo Jumbo Bubble Tea in Rockville, MD; and Bubble Tea Cafe in Rockville, MD. Now, I have no reason to drive very far to get any bubble (boba) tea drinks from Maryland. I have a favorite, and it's the Longan Red Date Tea. The Longan Red Date Tea goes well with nata jelly and no to less ice to capture the sweet flavor. At this Annandale, VA location, they call used to call it Longan Red Date Tea when they first opened. Now, it's called by a different name, Longan Jujube Tea. Others to get and try that are my favorites are Winter Melon Tea (for the flavor), Veryberry Green Tea (contains fruit), and Sunshine Pineapple Tea (contains pineapple fruit). Reasons for the lack of 5 stars are: 1) long ass lines at times, 2) new employees in and out making the drinks inconsistent, at times missing out instruction of no ice, and 3) now in 2016, many tea places opened up in NoVA gave Kung Fu Tea some decent competition that it is no longer the best place to get tea drinks for cheap (TeaDM, see below). Otherwise, it would've been 5 star tea drink monopoly. I meant to have this review up back in 2015 when Kung Fu Tea just opened up, but my rating still stands the same (4 stars) as of today. Kung Fu Tea since it's opening in 2015 in northern VA had very little competition (SnoCream at Kmart side parking lot was the only one, omitting half ass boba drinks from Eden at the time), hence the long lines. Now near the end of 2016, some alternative tea drink places have opened up in Fairfax, and Falls Church. For example, if you want a stronger tea taste, visit Eden (in Falls Church) and go to Pho VA where TeaDM (a play on EDM - electronic dance music) recently opened inside of. They have a special where if you're buying in bulk, you get a deal (buy 4, get 1 free). read more

I've tried their other teas- honey lemon tea (tastes like Chick Fila tea), taro (too sweet) and almond (way too sweet) but their milk tea is unparalleled and really tasty, esp with 3/4 sugar so you can taste the tea and not just sugar.
