There are plenty of country stations across Texas, but this one seems to focus heavily on the bubble gum pop country stuff instead of the classic country. They play too much new stuff, and not enough Merle, Willie, Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Hank... You know, the real country. If Achy Breaky Heart is country, I just wanna hang my head and cry. There's SO MANY commercials on this station. So Many. So Many Commercials. Blah blah blah blah. I'm gonna have some blue eyes cryin' in the rain if I have to hear another McDonald's jingle while waiting for a classic country song. This station is part of a mega conglomerate of radio stations called Cumulus Media.

My mom and sister only listen to the ranch, so on road trips back home, I listened to it for hours. I then started occasionally started streaming it and it grew on me. In fact, I love some of the artists. I tried to listen to the new country station in San Francisco, and it is just crap. I wish I could get the Ranch in SF in my car. For a Texas girl far from home, its nice to hear songs about Texas and songs that have a special Texas flair. It's a tribute to the history of great country music. The only problem is that it makes me want to drink (in a good way), but I usually listen during the day. Artists seem to be treated like family. There seems to be a real committment to honor the fans and artists. I removed a star because the DJ's can be a little too folksy for my taste. (But maybe you will like that).

For the most part I really like this radio station. For one I support college radio, always have…read morealways will. I like the music format; some Indie mixed in there, some retro 80's, and most importantly some local stuff like Oso Closo among others...They also play alt country like Drive by truckers, Steve Earl, etc...and some Americana and Folk roots music...Now for the down side, they need to change up the list more often...I hear the same list of the same songs by the same bands pretty often. So I would like if they would change it up sometimes and play something new and fresh. Also another down is the Webpages have NOT been updated in ages!!! And they really don't make good on answering emails...So if you want to contact them I suggest the listener line since I have gotten a hold of them that way. So much potential for this great radio station. I know it's a college station, but come on teach, lets get these kids to update the webpage at least once a month! Also, I really don't like the classic music for 2 hours. Arghhh...I put a CD on. ALso, the info shows are not necessary. I don't really wanna hear fanboy radio or a married couple talk about their home projects. Just stick with Music and maybe news and traffic. Keep on keeping on KTCU!!!

I am not a Muslim nor from Pakistan (but a Hindu from South India) & have never been a caller but I simply love listening even if some anchors use urdu words often (which is btw a sweet language). All RJs are awesome. Azad ji's talk show called "Bol Keh Lab Azad Hain Teray" (available on their YouTube channel) is a must-listen for Self awareness, Self development, Motivation, Morals/Values, Spirituality & Philosophy (no religion strings-attached though) which are much needed in our life especially in this day n' age. His talks give me a feeling of my favorite swamiji discourses like of Bramhvihari swami, Gaur Gopal Das, Sarvapriyananda, Sukhabodhananda, Om swami, Smt Prema Pandurang etc (while at it, plz go check them out on youtube as they also speak close to anyone's heart about human values). Azad ji should give some TED talks as well. As such, he is a simple yet outstanding individual with an inspiring bio (I am a fan of his... he should publish his biography). Today, his topic was "Sukoon" (peace) & a caller said that he found it after listening to this station from past 4 years. And, Ayesha ji is such a sweetheart, she might not know you but will soon become your best friend. Quality wise, their 870 AM is not the quality that they deserve but they do stream live on their website/apps/tunein/roku (seniors who might not be up to today's technology can just call a number to hear them live). They also work hard updating their website & facebook pages daily with details of all the shows & schedules (which their competitor FunAsia though a biggie who are just interested in making money should learn from). They also maintain a Youtube channel. GO Radio Azad "where your VOICE matters" (such a meaningful tag-line of theirs as they are best at interacting & listening to audience)!

Anyway, when I was living in Dallas I signed up for the Dallas Morning News and had the worst experience- they charged me for a year and successfully delivered 2 total papers... bizarre. I've had no issues with the Star Telegram. It is always right where it belongs in the middle of my lawn when I wake up Sun & Wed. Also loving the PressPass. I almost mistakenly threw it away, but was excited to learn about the big fat list of restaurant, movie, and event discounts you get. You can't beat buying the Sunday comics and getting rodeo tickets and movie tickets for free.
