Cmon people what's with the bad reviews? These guys really did a good job of keeping me informed about PDX especially when I moved to Tigard and after my ex-girlfriend dumped me. I must declare all the PDX news stations including this have the best people to report the news. I usually watch the 11pm newscast because at times I get so see Mrs. Laurel Porter. She's one of the sweetest news reporters that I ever seen. During my time living in Oregon, every time I see the news a sense of calm flows within me. I'd give the News at 4 team 5 stars but I turn the station OFF at 5 and would give them 0 stars with the bumbling Dan Haggerty. He fumbles along in so many of his stories I don't know how he's made it this far in broadcasting. Maybe KGW got a great package deal with him and his wife transferring here. I stopped watching the news in 2020 as it was so politically warped as to be unwatchable. This morning my wife and I sat down to watch the morning news for the first time in years, so we watched KGW's morning news. Five minutes of news, five minutes of commercials. Usually five commercials. After repeating this for 35 minutes we turned the TV off because we were getting more commercials than news. I guess we'll go back to not watching the local news again as it's total rubbish. Perish KGW, you have become irrelevant. read more

After a lifetime of watching the KGW 6:00 news report, I find that I have had to choose another channel. This is due to Dan Haggerty and his new format. I want local news at 6:00, not Dan's reports. For some reason I find his style annoying. He still has trouble with pronunciation of certain places/locations; his command of the English language is not always the best, and his style of presentation irritates me. Further, his style of dress does not look professional. Laurel Porter's fashions are sometimes strange. She has a wonderful figure and wears her clothes well but the sleeves on some of her dresses are strange. Perhaps she needs to wear age appropriate, professional looking clothing. I do find Matt Zaffino and Laurel Porter meet the criteria needed for good reporting. read more

Teachers are essential parts of schools. Their concerns were at the heart of the recent strikes and walkouts. And they deserved the media attention they received. However, parents and students are also important stakeholders. They and their concerns warranted much more than the measly 5 percent of quotes that this report claims they received. This lack of representation of parent and student voices is a major concern not only for those covering teacher strikes but also for education journalism in general. We keep trying to cover education, but we keep leaving out parents and students. read more

KGW has become a bastion of innaccuracy, innuendo and overall poor reporting. The worst one is 'happy go lucky' Tracey Barry. I get it she is a former beauty queen, but her ability to simply read/report the news is below par. The good reporters (Anne Jaeger for one) left a long time ago. How Ms Barry is still there is beyond me. The absolute topper was a story on 1/16/2016 in which drs at a VA hospital left a scalpel in a patient's abdomen. When the VA responded with ' we dont have the time or staff to respond at this time', the news reader said "yes. It is called 'we are losing'." Completely unprofessional and totally lacking as far as reporting the news. Sadly, she is notbthe only one guilty of this behavior. If media outlets want to know why they are not trusted, one need look no further then this response! News Flash: Report the damn news and leave the snark to your inner voice. The recent experiment with the 6 pm news half hour "featuring" Dan Haggerty has essentially run its course. This format may work at some other time of the day but its content is not particularly good and as a news program does not capture me as a fan of KGW. The comparison with the 6-6:30 content and presentation with the more standard content causes me to just jump channels. I don't know what the intent of the program in its current format might be, but Mr. Haggerty can not pull it off. At best he is a weak member of the news team.Hopefully some programming changes are in the offing. This program underscores the value of my TV remote. read more

I noticed an ad for a Saturday show that concerns local politics on this channel. Way to go guys! Now, include some of that in your daily newscast and I'll be delirious with glee (not really, but I'll be moderately hopeful). Thanks for doing your part to ACTUALLY inform the citizenry. I used to watch KGW news all the time in the morning and evening. A few years ago I began noticing that some of the news anchors started acting overly outgoing and sappy like they were always trying too hard. It just seemed way too phony. I figured there must have been some sort of directive from above to go in that direction in order to capture a younger audience, which was a joke since they didnt watch local news anyway. With so many good people that are now gone I no longer could stand to watch. Dan Haggerty was a poor choice. He is so irritating that I quit watching. Cassidy Quinn is another host that is so irritating I immediately changed the channel. I now watch KOIN with my favs being Ken Bodie and Jeff Gianola. Professionalism matters in the news if you want to be taken seiously. read more

I have to MUTE it or put on closed captioning when dan haggerty comes on. I really only watch for Matt Zaffino. I think he truly the only polished professional on the 11:00news. What has happened to KGW? SMH. Laurel is ok but I think she should dress for her age and tone down the open-top tight dresses and lighten the lip color. Coral or pink shades are best on an over 50. Here I go again, dating myself and all, but darn it I had to write a review after reading all the others. My family and I have watched KGW since I can remember, and I remember when Tom McCall was on the show, along with Richard Ross, Jack Capell, and so many other great folks, on and on, and let us not forget Heck Harper. Mr. Harper had an afternoon cartoon show on KGW, Cartoon Corral, along with his horse, Jody, and it was a very fun to go on his show. I don't remember the number of my appearances, but I went for my own birthday, other friends' birthdays, Brownies, Girl Scouts, and field trips for several years. And how can I forget all the evening news watched with my dad and all the discussions around the kitchen table stemming from that. My review is colored with great affection and memories, so I have no objectivity, just lots of subjectivity (if that is indeed a word). While the news and other programming over the years has always been excellent, I think KGW's other great strength is its involvement in the community. I try to support all their sponsored events (Christmas Toy Drive, etc.), but also appreciate their ability to give back, such as Shred Day. I also enjoy their development of newer shows, such as Live at 7 and Straight Talk, and feel that I'm a far hipper and better informed person because of watching those shows (there are so many things I wouldn't even know about in the tech world if it weren't for Steph Stricklen and Live at 7). So whether it's the memories of such fine broadcasters as Tom McCall and Richard Ross to Anne Curry and Brenda Braxton, and my appreciation of all of KGW's current staff of news and weather folks, I watch and enjoy all of them and follow them on Twitter. I watch the news EVERY day!!! In the mornings I keep it on for background noise as I'm getting ready! I have always watched the other major network in Portland, mostly because I just leave it on the same channel. Also, their anchor people are more attractive and their lighting is more professional and complimentary. I didn't really think it mattered what channel I watched. I thought they were reporting the same news! Boy was I TOTALLY mistaken!!!!!!!!!!! I'm a regular Dental Hygienist Volunteer For Medical Teams International. One day I was out volunteering for the local Compassion Clinics. They happen all year long and all over the Metro Area. NEVER once have I seen it reported on the news. This got me thinking about how much negative news is reported and nothing good. It made me really depressed and upset. It made me feel that was all people wanted to hear about because that was all that was being reported!!!!!! One morning Medical Teams International reported on their Facebook page that the news station KGW would be reporting at their international headquarters. I switched the channel and NEVER looked back!!!!!!! This station is above and beyond FAR more positive and all inclusive in their news reporting!!!!!! There is a LOT of positive stuff happening out there PORTLAND!!!!!! I'm DEFINITELY needing to drink less by watching this station. I HIGHLY recommend PORTLAND changes the channel and watches KGW!!!!!!!!!!!!! (maybe their poor anchorpeople will get some decent lighting and makeup people for their newsroom) :D read more

I am a native Portlander and I used to have a lot more respect for this station. As of late they have move into the fully infotainment industry. They rairly delve into good journalism but prefer to find the story with the most dynamic video or shocking statistic. Murder, rape and kidnapping are not news (contrary to what many beleive). Neither is a five-car pile up. What is happening in City Hall, our schools, State Politics, transportation, infrastructure, resource conservation, etc. is news. The "newscasters" are not journalists but rather talking heads. They do little if any research and feel that if they can get through droning on whatever flys across the teleprompter without making a mistake they have done their job. Poor excuse for a news station...unfortunately, KATU, KOIN, and KPDX are not much better. The whole lot has chosen to entertain rather than inform. News casting used to be a public service..not a public circus. read more

My partner informed me of the devil that is Tracy Berry...but other than her, I like their newscasts...very to the point and informative. My second favorite newsteam behind KATU. Great weather team, especially since the addition of Rod Hill. KATU recently copied KPTV "dirty dining" segments...but oh well...they are always entertaining. read more

For the most part, I like KGW NEWS...but as far as the network goes, I am appalled at the Athenix commercials. I can't even watch T.V. with my son because there are (more than) half-naked bodies popping up. Not only is it inappropriate because of the (almost) nudity but it teaches young girls not to be happy with the body they have been given. I am not an activist nor am I one to really voice my opinion... but I have to stand up and say this commercial should be pulled from the airwaves! read more

Ok, so I have this thing. An issue, you might say. I HATE the news in Oregon. I know that everyone has issues and it's comes down to how you deal with them. So, I've decided to face this one head on. I have recently forced myself to watch versions of our local stations' nightly news. And, um, ya know what came out of it? I STILL HATE the news. I know I shouldn't hate. Its not healthy, I know. Maybe writing it out will help...... News Channel 8. Its kind of the lesser of all evils. They have the most attractive anchors. Attractive if you're old enough to remember Vietnam and you like your men in 10 year old suits. But they are at least somewhat normal looking. After checking out the kgw website I realized that they have almost 30 anchors. 30!! Can anyone tell me why? That right there is what bothers about this station. Is it really necessary to have a 5, 6 AND 6:30 news show? Especially when each show is filled with the same, overdramatized stories about non-local events that can be seen on youtube??? And why must their commercials always make it seem like I will get deathly sick or lose a limb if I don't watch their show tonight? Pretty sure your scare tactics are tactless. If you're like me and you absolutely can't deal with the weeknight news, watch it on the weekends. Its at least tolerable. read more

I love KGW!! I watch this channel more than any other, so it's no surprise that I was devastated when it disappeared from my cable' services line up in my area after the DTV switch! Since I didn't have another analog TV that I could hook up to my DTV converter box, I purchased a digital ready TV! I'm on a fixed income, and it took me a while to save up the bucks to do this! AHHH! But, it was well worth it to see my favorite newscasters again! I too miss Dave Salesky!!! read more

I think over all they do a good job but.... when they give the stock report, they give dow industrials as points in the hundredth of a point range. If the dow reads 10320.45 and broadcast as the dow is up 5 points. That is wrong. should give dow is up almost a half point or something like that. read more
