Anyone who's stayed on either Seabrook or Kiawah Island is most likely intimately familiar with this Harris Teeter. On many visits, we've found this store to be relatively well-stocked. However, the week before Easter was definitely a busy one for this store, and they were cleaned out of a lot of their typical offerings. For example, their take-and-bake pizzas are an easy and decent dinner after a day at the beach, but to our surprise, there were none left when we stopped in around 5 PM on a Wednesday. I'm confident that this not a regular occurrence - but something to note if you're visiting during the busy season. I will echo other reviewers that mentioned narrow aisles and an interesting layout. This store is definitely on the smaller side, and can feel crowded when there's multiple people in one aisle. One way to avoid this is shopping outside of peak hours ... early in the morning our later at night. The cashiers are mostly friendly and always fast. If you come from a state with Kroger or Fry's instead of Harris Teeter, rest assured that you can still input your phone number for your shopper rewards. Another positive is that I haven't noticed a difference in prices from this store and non-touristy grocery stores. Again, it does the trick for being the only grocery store at Freshfields. However, it could certainly use a little love and a few updates.

I did a price check online of a bottle I was interested in and found it cost 20% less at Total Wine (West Ashley is the closest location). I recognized one bottle which was sold at Harris Teeter (250 feet away) for less. Kiawah Wines is perfect for tourists who aren't concerned about value/cost and are looking for a large wine selection at a convenient-to-their-vacation location. For an 'ol local like me, it just makes no sense to pay a premium when I can easily drive elsewhere for my wine.

They didn't know me from Adam and they bent over backwards to assure me that if what I was looking for was available they would get it for me. Their prices for the super rare stuff is through the roof HOWEVER, the entire secondary is like that. And the stuff they have is ultra rare. In taking to the owner and staff, they are very forth coming about why they price they way they do. Being in retail myself I completely agree with them. Why should someone else come in and buy something to flip it when Louies can make that money instead. If someone is willing to pay it, its worth it. They also are very frank in saying if you're a regular customer of theirs and spend money with them they're more apt to talk to you and make sure you're comfortable with the prices. So they have prices for flippers, sippers and regulars. All sounds fair to me when they tell you what's going on and let you decide what you want to do. There are very few places I'm comfortable shopping with and these folks instantly made me feel comfortable. Could I have found slightly better prices, maybe? Could I have found a friendlier and more honest staff, I don't think so. Though I don't live in the area I'm there a few times a year and they'll always be someone I'll visit and spend money with.

He gave me some excellent advice on a new Bourbon and Tequila to try. I have taken other recommendations from Derek and they have all been awesome. His knowledge of Spirits is pretty impressive. He also gave me some help with finding a hard to find Bourbon Barrel wine. Although they didn't currently have it in stock they ordered a case for me and even gave me 10% off when I picked it up - sweet. I also ordered a couple more hard to find wines from them.
