Super friendly and accommodating for my husband who is vegan and for myself who is gluten-free. Food is fresh & yummy.

It is a charming little place set against the mountains backdrop. The prices seem fair, a bit lower than those in Metro Vancouver. The portion is also smaller. That probably explained the next table ordering another bowl of rice to go with the dish. Food was decent but it was nothing really outstanding. Maybe for Hope, Kibo is considered one of the better Japanese restaurants around. Service was ok, and too prompt. Bill was given while we were eating halfway. Then my friends' plates were removed even though I was still eating. It created a very hurried atmosphere, and the place was not even crowded. read more

'Kibo' was our pick for dinner the first evening of a recent July stay in Hope. Though a good while ago, it was a return visit for us (we dined there in 2017). We chose to sit at the same table as before (but the restaurant's ambiance & surroundings did look more than a little changed & unfamiliar). Our server (new to us as well) was at our table promptly, with menus, and not long after, with mugs, and a large pot of hot tea. We used the printed menu, and the wall board's listing of 'specials or featured items of the day' to decide what to order, and went with the following: -- from the regular menu: spicy agedashi tofu -- from features on the wall board: house special rolls, and chicken yakisoba, which included servings of miso soup, and an appetizer-sized, assorted tempura. Presentations looked good, but all preparations just lacked ingredients, and some flavourful "spunk & excitement". The miso soup was warm, but just flavored water. The tofu was creamy good, but what was that spicy, red sauce dripped on top? it looked and tasted like a few drops from that commercially-prepared bottle of red stuff many of us know - I washed it off in the watery, quite unflavourful sauce underneath the tofu, so that I could eat and enjoy the tofu. I counted only a few, very tiny 'slivers' of anything looking or tasting like chicken meat in the yakisoba preparation - and the preparation itself was bland. The tempura was fine - thin coatings, sweet & tender ingredients. The rolls, though I remain unsure what the ingredients really were inside them, looked and tasted fine as well. To sum up our overall dining experience at 'Kibo' -- service was fine (though quite short of being very cordial or personal), food presentations were fine, but ingredients and preparations were just 'ok'. "seafood" upon had 1.shrimp, 1.prawn and a clam. The noodles were soggy. Salmon sashimi was so small. The veggie don in my combo was cold and raw. Never ever again will I waste $70 in your restaurant read more

Kibo is our locals favourite sushi place. Lots of variety, very good quality. Always have great specials. And it's family run. You can feel that when you eat there. I'm a local, born and raised and I've never had a bad experience. read more

This used to be my favourite sushi place to get take out in town but the last 2 times I went here my rolls were both missing ingredients that they were supposed to have (my crab roll literally had no crab, other roll was missing yam tempura and avocado, miso soup was nothing but broth, one single shrimp in my Ebi sunomono). I used to love this place but I think it's time I stopped going, especially since a take out order just for myself is $50 with tip and I'm not even getting what I'm ordering anymore. This place is fantastic. It is well named (Kino means hope in Japanese). The service was amazing from the beginning to the end The place was spotless and smelled nice! The food.. Omg. The best gyōza I've had. The best edamame recipe (they add salt and warm them up which makes it really good to suck on them). I ordered the beef teriyaki, they claimed it to be grade AAA meat in the menu.. and they definitely delivered! Better than any teriyaki place I've had in any fancy restaurant in downtown Vancouver. Everything is so flavorful, even the miso soup! This is the smallest (family owned) restaurant in town and probably one of the cheapest but is definitely as good, if not much better, than all other restaurants around it. read more

Kibo - Japanese Near Me - Hope, British Columbia

One of the tiniest Mom & Pop restaurants I've had the pleasure of dining at. They make tasty soups and yummy tempura. My wife and I visit this restaurant probably two or three times per year, as it is a cozy place to have a nice meal on our way out of town. The one caveat is that they don't really make authentic Japanese style sushi. Rather, they make Korean kimpap () style, with the laver (seaweed) on the outside as a wrap. Usually only the manager is present to wait on customers, and often there is a waitress; but service is not a problem, as there are only six tables in the dining area. read more

A good little Japanese restaurant in the middle of Hope. I enjoyed their salmon rolls, but I was disappointed with the chicken teriyaki roll. Any roll you can make "spicy" may just have some hot sauce on top. However, my husband thoroughly enjoyed his regular beef teriyaki. read more

Volcano ramen is the best ramen I've ever tasted. Cute little restaurant tucked away in a corner of the town. Excellent teriyaki, superb green tea, friendly staff. I recommend this place to locals and visitors alike. read more

For a small town, this is very reasonable. Good service. Small cosy atmosphere. The kitchen accommodated a change in their special offers for us. Beef Teriyaki was good along with the Miso soup. read more

Great food! One of the best tempura I've had--light, crispy, not too heavy of a batter or too greasy. Raw salmon tasted fresh (my boyfriend and I love salmon nigiri). We got the House Roll which was perfect: shrimp tempura, avocado, cucumber, and spicy mayo. Guys, I'm from Southern California and have had a lot of good Japanese food, and this place tasted fresh and good quality. Great stop during our drive across Canada. read more

Not much to write home about. Based on another review, I was looking forward to trying the Volcano ramen but it ended up being not much more than a $1 Shin Ramen with a few veggies - and a huge markup in price for what it was. Ordered sushi and beef teriyaki for pick up. It was fantastic! Everything was delicious. We ordered the house roll, dragon roll and a few others. The beef teriyaki was great as well. Super fresh udong noddles in a chicken and seafood dish. The seafood one had 2-3 times the amount of muscles, octopus, shrimp, calamari. Salmon, tuna and unagi rolls were fresh and had great taste. Miso soup had perfect balance. Gyoza were crispy outside and moist inside with homemade sauce. Older gracious couple were super friendly. I have to say that the food tasted excellent. However. It is very expensive for very small portions and service is something to be desired. After we were given our food we were not even "checked in" on and then we're just left.... so we walked to the front to leave after a while.... still hungry because of small portions. A friend, my aunt & I were looking for a close place to grab a bite for dinner. We stumbled upon this place on our way to Jasper. The service is a bit slow because there are only two waitresses. Warm and friendly service. Our car broke down and the owners of Hope Sushi welcomed us with open arms, warm soup and free wifi while we waited for our ride. At first we were skeptical about a small town sushi restaurant but now this will be our regular stop as we travel through town. My teenage boys commented that it was the best Miso Soup they've ever had. read more
