Second: The clinic was so fully-booked that the dentist, I believe Dr. Carlin is his name, was extremely rushed, speaking with me as though he's had a hit of amphetamines. He and the assistant didn't want to visit a bit, get to know me. Not at all. I felt like a bug. They've got too many patients and too much money to make to be truly civil. The dentist's instructions for aftercare sounded like a disclaimer at the end of a pharmaceutical commercial. Third: They charged our Health Savings card a 3.95% fee, treating it like a credit card. That is BS. They stole almost $40 from our health savings, in addition to getting $1800 for a crown. The finance manager claimed it was the processing company, but I happen to know that at the clinic up in Ruidoso, this fee was waived. I have the paperwork to prove it. Fourth: On my return visit to have the crown cemented in, the assistant was icy. Superficially polite, and quite passive aggressive in her mannerisms and way of speaking with me. Fifth: The help out front obnoxiously rude. One truly feels that one is intruding. Sixth: Their fiendish cancellation fee? How can that be legal? They fill the spot with another person immediately. My finally analysis? They are money-grubbing creeps.

It was pretty busy at that time but the staff keeps it well organized so everything ran smoothly. The had 2-3 flat screen TV's playing Disney's Cars to keep the kids entertained. There were also plenty of art/crayon boxes and books to keep the kids occupied while they wait. Surprisingly, we only waited about 1-2 minutes and my son was on his way to the chair. The Dr. was great and explained the procedure for the 1st appointment making sure to keep my son as comfortable as possible as well as Mommy and Daddy. After he was seen , he was entered in a raffle for a free CD stereo (this office has been known to give out Sony PSP's in the past, too). He was also given a Peter Piper Pizza certificate for a free personal 7' pizza and drink. He also left with a goody bag with stickers and a toothbrush. Nice touch!

My concern wasn't that X-rays are never necessary--it's that they were being required before anyone had even looked at my children's teeth to determine whether they were actually needed. As a parent, I believe medical procedures should be recommended based on the patient's individual condition, not as a mandatory prerequisite for a routine cleaning. If the dentist had completed the exam or cleaning and found something that warranted X-rays, I would have absolutely been willing to have that conversation. Instead, we were told no X-rays meant no cleaning. When I questioned the policy, the staff became argumentative and brought the dentist into the conversation. He explained that requiring X-rays was to protect him from liability. Respectfully, his liability is not my primary concern--my children's healthcare is. I should be able to ask questions and make informed decisions about my children's care without being denied a routine cleaning because I declined a procedure that had not yet been shown to be necessary for them. Families deserve individualized care, open communication, and respect--not blanket policies that leave parents feeling pressured into consenting to procedures simply so their children can receive basic preventive care. We left without my children receiving the care they came in for, and that is unacceptable.

Rosie is the hygienist I've been seeing and I've only ever once in my life have had as clean teeth as I have after my cleanings with her. The other time was abroad when I requested a deluxe cleaning. Dr. Trujillo is a fantastic and holistic dentist as is the rest of her team. They actually look at the whole picture of what's going on in your life too make sure you're getting good care. Rarely have I sat waiting for a long time for the doctor to come by or hygienists to coordinate with each other. They seem to be pretty efficient and still warm/kind. Their services are a little pricey (not sure if this is a standard cost that's changed in recent years) but they're very clear and up front about any and all costs. So be sure to check with insurance and their front desk and ask if anything is confusing. Plus we all know pricing is bc our healthcare system is busted, not bc of this practitioner ofc. Before the appointment, we asked staff to accommodate his needs - things like extra time to adjust, clear/ simple explanations before any tools touched him, and patience if he got overwhelmed. This is a standard, reasonable request for a child with sensory and processing differences. Unfortunately, our request was ignored. Staff did not adjust their approach, moved quickly without preparing him, and were short and impatient with him when he became anxious. He was clearly distressed, and instead of being met with the accommodation we'd asked for, the response felt punitive rather than supportive. As his parent, watching a healthcare provider treat a neurodivergent child this way was disappointing and, frankly, felt discriminatory. Dental visits are already hard for kids with autism/ ADHD -- a good pediatric-friendly office should know how to work with that, not against it. We won't be returning, and I'd encourage other parents of neurodivergent kids to ask detailed questions about their accommodation practices before booking here.
