I took my two Kids (Aksel and Kaya) that needed haircuts. The staff are very welcoming and it was Aksels First Haircut and needed to get a Fade (Patrick Mahomes) for a 2.5 yr old. Wendy did an amazing job and kept him comfortable while working quickly and his mop top was cleaned up so well =) Lisette was wonderful after trimming Kaya(9)s hair and put it into a wonderful braid with a bow. We had a great experience here for my son's first hair cut! No crying. He did wonderful and so do stylists! They have little cars to sit them in, iPads, a gift shop, candy, you name it to distract the kids! It is a little pricey but the kids love it. We even got a certificate and a snippet of hair to keep! We booked online with Mandy, but ended up being taken by Lauren instead. I don't particularly know any of the stylists at the salon so I didn't mind that they changed this. Lauren was very friendly and we shared pleasant conversation about our kids. She cut quickly (necessary for kid services) and my daughter looked nice & neat afterwards. She even added a cute braid & some glitter to her hair at the end of the service for no charge. By far the worst haircut my son has ever received. Luckily it's the holidays and I'm not the only one that gets the chance to take a close look at her masterpiece. I've had multiple people ask me, what happened to his hair... On our way to our appointment they let me know our stylist was running 10-15 minutes late. Not a big deal but then we show up and waited another 5 minutes for her to finish her previous appointment. Then she rushed through his because they were getting ready to close. My son was still and did not move until maybe the last 2 minutes because he was changing what show he was watching on the iPad. I asked him to stop and he did so we can take that off the list of excuses. As she's finishing up I take a look and asked her to make the sides, front and back even because they were not. She combed down the front then added product and cut it straight a-crossed and said looks good and left his hair that way. I then asked her to make the back at least even and she cut one side higher and was making it worse. I told her the sides were not straight and asked to just go straight down to make an even line and she said she doesn't see it and called someone over to use their razor. She did do it but it did not take away the baby hairs and our hairdresser said I don't know why mine weren't cutting it..... at that point I said we are done and left because clearly it was not being corrected and only getting worse. I'm only writing a review in hopes no one else has to experience this. Yes, it's a children's place and I don't expect a perfect line up but this is unacceptable in my opinion. read more

My daughter loves getting her haircut at KidSnips. Great experience since day one!! We always book our appointment with Mirjeta.......she's my daughters favorite stylist and is absolutely amazing. Mirjeta has cut my daughters hair since my daughter was 1 year old. Now she's 5 and still loves her haircuts with Mirjeta at KidSnips. I love the consistency of stylists at the salon and my daughter feels comfortable every time even when using the blow dryer which sometimes can be scary for the little kids. No tears here!!! Salon is equipped with car themed kid chairs and also have iPads to keep the little ones busy during the haircut. The salon is just so much fun for the kiddos and even better experience then a regular haircut place. After the haircut the kids get to pick out a lollipop and a free toy. Today was our first and last visit. I scheduled a last minute appointment for my 7 year old daughter at KidSnips because our hairdresser was booked. The hairdresser at KidSnips seemed to be in an extreme hurry from the very beginning. My daughter has very fine, long (below the waist) hair that becomes easily tangled. The hairdresser had to invest time detangling her hair, which caused me stress because hair shouldn't be brushed in a fast, careless manner as she did because it can be damaging to the hair. The 15 min. time slot did not meet my standards. Our hairdresser (not at KidSnips) provides us with a 30 min window in which he takes his time to provide us with excellent services. In addition, KidSnips has an array of toys on display for sale. My daughter came into the shop with a stuffed animal keychain I had purchased for her today at Walgreens. As we were getting into our vehicle, the stylist approached us and asked me "if my daughter had brought that toy in with her"; I replied "yes, we do not steal". An apology was not offered on behalf of KidSnips which I find appalling. In a nutshell, this is a quick stop shop that lacks customer service. The hairdresser's body language demonstrated being bothered and in a hurry from initial contact. Customer service quality should be made a priority. read more

Brought my son here for his first haircut. The stylist was very patient with him as he is 15 months and doesn't know when to turn his head or look down. I didn't like how she instantly brought out an iPad to keep him occupied. My son doesn't watch shows or have screen time so she was confused on why that wasn't occupying him and he kept looking around. He liked the toy attached to the car much better. I thought he sat fairly still for the most part but his hair in the back is not blended well, she missed some long parts of his cowlick in the back and the front of his hair is uneven. You couldn't really tell when we were there because she put product in his hair right away but once that was washed out you could see it wasn't cut evenly. The certificate, photo and lock of hair are a nice memento but I will be taking him elsewhere for his next haircut Sorry for the terrible pics (#movingtoddlerproblems) but they show how uneven his hair is! read more

Today I went there for my 11 month old sons haircut. hairdresser was Julie K. she did such a mess job even my sons side parts not same. She is using trimmer like she playing with mannequin this was 11 month old baby you should be more gentle and careful and you charge me for this mess $35 in another hair salon I did my daughters haircut it cost me $12. I made an appointment for my 2yo to get her hair cut. We were told upon arrival that she could only have her hair cut if she kept her mask on and wore it properly. You can imagine how that went over. What kind of business that has CHILDREN as their CLIENTS could expect a TWO YEAR OLD to wear a mask properly, let alone keep it on. Again, I understand if your business caters to an older age group that understands the concept of wearing a mask. But a two year old? Isn't that why your employees wear a mask and parents wear a mask? Glad I didn't waste $25 here. We will not be coming back when covid restrictions are lifted. read more

My son is 2 years old and autistic and has a hard time with haircuts, so my therapist and I researched places that would be able to work with kids who have sensory needs. We were excited to find a place that spelled out exactly what we were looking for on their website, "...They are also trained in working with all kinds of kids, including those who are fearful, have special needs or sensory issues, or are  in wheelchairs." After finding Kids Snips S. Barrington my son's therapist and I called to talk with the team so see if it was a good fit. We called 4 TIMES and we were assured that they would be able to work with him and that they would give us the most experienced stylist. I drove 45 minutes to this specific location and had the worst experience. We arrived 4 mins late and were told they would take the next kids first since we were late so the other client didn't have to "sit staring at my son to finish." Fine. We waited. Then when our turn came up my son sat in the chair and was very calm, off to a great start. The stylist wait until this point to ask questions about the haircut wasting valuable seconds of my son sitting still. She then began cutting his hair extremely slow and would stop with every flintch he made. Still fine. We moved him to my lap as he got squirmy and I started to notice that she was beginning to get visibly annoyed and audibly huffing and puffing every time my son would get upset and she had to stop. I ignored it and we continued. We had to take a pause and as we did, she walked over to the front counter and loudly whispered to the women at the front desk complaining about how long it was taking. She came back snipped a few more as SLOW as possible. My son got squirmy again and she walked back to the counter and again talked about how long it was taking. At this point it was maybe 8 mins in and then the woman at the front counter turned to me and asked "did you make this appointment online?" My therapist and I were both present and we both responded "No, we called." (Four times) The woman at the front said, "ok well next time we'll just put a note that he takes a lot longer." I don't understand how four conversations about taking time and his needs did not lead to putting a longer time slot then 10-MINUTE on the books. After the comment at the counter the stylist returned and again begins to huff and puff and is clearly irritated with my son for taking longer. After another audible Huff and Puff from the stylist I decided that it wasn't fair to my son and said "I don't think this is working out." My therapist agreed and said "yes this isnt work were leaving." We walk out about 10 mins into the haircut because of how rude they were being to us. If you have kids who have any sensory needs please DO NOT come to this place!!! They had ZERO empathy as my poor son struggled to sit still for a task that is physically uncomfortable to him nor any empathy for myself or my therapist who were trying to help him feel at ease. I can't erase the way they looked at my son with utter judgement and I don't want it to happen to anyone else. read more

Brought my kids in for haircuts. I came here because of the good service I was offered before. However this last time was different. The lady showed clear signs of annoyance to my crying 3 year old and 2 year old. I know crying kids is part of the job so I don't understand the lack of patience. Forget experiences at a hair salon, I had one of the worst customer service experiences of all time at this place. Please avoid this place. I sat down with my 3-yr old on my lap, and he was terrified to begin with. He was bawling, and I was holding this mask over his face. It kept slipping below his nose so I would scoot it back up. Eventually his stylist just put her hands on her hips and stared at him exasperated like he was a fully grown adult who was purposefully breaking COVID protocols. Keep in mind I am sitting with him, holding his mask over his ears so it doesn't keep slipping. I told her if she can't effectively cut his hair, we'd like to work with someone who could. At this point she calls her manager over who marches over. Here is where the real issue was. The manager began by rudely asking me "WHAT's THE PROBLEM?" I told her I'm trying to keep the mask on my son but it's slipping, and I'd appreciate if they could be nicer and more understanding. This woman proceeds to sternly explain to me that, "SIR. I have stylists who are OUT because of COVID." Wonderful, thanks. I am familiar with Covid - I have family members who got sick bc of it too. Thanks. HOWEVER, my 3 yr old did not give your employees COVID - that's not why they're out sick so I don't need to have that yelled into my face. If you are a Manager, perhaps try acting like one. Maybe consider a) having BASIC manners and being polite to your customers, b) problem solving and working to make your customer feel better - "oh shit his toddler is freaking out, have you tried XYZ?", c) TRAIN YOUR PEOPLE to be more patient with children!!! YOU ARE KID FREAKING SNIPZ. But of course, how could you train your people when you yourself are so rude, and d) DO NOT accuse my 3 yr old of purposefully trying taking his mask off between his crying and tears - alleging that he's somehow trying to maliciously get your employees sick. GIVE ME A BREAK. Do you have no common sense or understanding of the situation?? Of course not. This was such a horrifying experience. I really, really wish I could give this a lower rating. It took all I had in me to take the high road and not yell right back at this incredibly rude manager. She does not deserve to have a job in any type of customer service or customer facing roles - she is a disgrace. read more

What a horrible place!!!! I have a three year old with developmental delays and autism and was thrilled when I found a place where hairstylists are trained to deal with kids with special needs. Well, my three year old took his mask off and the employees kicked us out! They didn't allow me the chance to put the mask back on him, they simply said we had to leave. What the hell is that?! They started saying "oh the Governor and his orders....blah blah blah". The governor never said to kick little kids out of a salon for taking their mask off! Oh and geniuses, there is an exception for people with any kind of medical issues when it comes to wearing a mask. This place and it's employees have no training to deal with kids with special needs. Otherwise, they'd know that not all of them keep their masks on! I took our son to a Great Clips down the street where they cut his hair without a mask on after we explained his situation. Can't say enough good things about this place. Finding safe salons to take my 1.5 and 4 year old boys for a haircut during the pandemic has been a struggle. We drove from Rockford just for Kidsnips and I can tell you we will definitely be back. Online scheduling was a breeze and we had no problem getting two appointments together. Stacy and Ann were WONDERFUL with my boys (one of whom has only ever had one haircut and isn't quite sure how he feels about it). They were super quick and the haircuts were some of the best we've ever had. They take safety precautions seriously and I am so grateful because so many places in Rockford don't require masks, even when working with kids. Not only were all staff at Kidsnips masked, but they require, and actually enforce, masks for all guests over age 2. As a bonus the South Barrington location is located in a cute outdoor mall right off of I-90 so we were able to grab lunch and do some shopping which made the trip even more worthwhile. I took my daughter here today for her first haircut and we loved it. She's 18 months and Jillian was so patient with her. Jillian also asked my husband and I first if my daughter could use the iPad. I thought it was nice that she asked. I would have been fine if she gave it to her without asking but I know some parents are not OK with screen time for kids. Very overpriced for what I got and they didn't even get the service correct for what I booked through the app they recommend you schedule with. I was told that it did not show in their system that it was a first haircut for my daughter. Cute for kids but not worth the price IMO. Saw other kids' haircuts while there and was thoroughly unimpressed. Lots of toys for the kids to oooh and ahhh over. Always friendly service and a fun environment for kids to have their hair cut! My son enjoys picking out a DVD of his choice to watch and sitting in a different hot rod car during every haircut. They manage to get every appointment in and out within 10-15 minutes which is great with young kids. They can also choose a small toy from a treasure chest and walk out with a balloon! This is always a big incentive for my toddler. The only downside is that the salon includes a small toy store which can be distracting for small children during their haircut and possibly a fight waiting to happen between you and your little ones. As a first time mom, I admittedly was nervous taking my very active 13 month old son for his first haircut but I knew I have to bite the bullet someday as his mop head is getting too rowdy and his hair was getting in the way of his vision. We had a great experience today. My son just turned two and had his first haircut about six months ago. It was a disaster. He screamed and cried the entire time. Because of this, my husband and I tried to do it at home where he was more comfortable. Mistake. Now we had to get it fixed. I brought him in today to see Kristin, and she was wonderful.
