Ace hardware in Kihei is a wonderful, local, "Old Time" kind of hardware store. Where you can find just about everything you need for your basic home repairs or projects. I just bought a strip of metal and six (6) long screws to repair and re-install a glove box that someone had ripped out of my car. Looks Good & works good!! I needed a very small allen wrench to screw in a towel rack holder that had fallen off. I dreaded buying a full set of such wrenches, but the cashier drected me to aisle 6 where there were probably a hundred boxes and I was supposed to guess which one had the appropriately-sized piece. She loudspeakered a guy who met me in the aisle and promply found the wrench. Total cost: 95 cents. Whew. A shout out to the guy who knew exactly what I needed and put his hand on it within a minute. read more

I had a good experience at the store. I came to get a key made and was promptly helped and there were no lineups. I think there were more employees than customers in the store. The store is well organized and spacious with a vast array of typical hardware items for sale. There's a paint department and garden section. Considering the large area that the store must service, it was not very busy at all, on a Thursday afternoon. The guy who checked me out was rude. He told me I broke the pad because it was loading and kinda scared me like he was going to freak out or lose it. I went to Ace to support the underdog I used to know, but now this dog has become rabid and needs to be taken out behind the shed. It's apparent Ace no longer values their business; it is reflected in their business practices; employee hire, training (or lack their of), and customer service is appalling. Here is my summarized experience: I went in with some questions to help me decide which tools and supplies I needed to purchase. Though not pleased with the situation unfolding before me, my attitude was quiet, polite and patient.. I interacted with 3 people: 2 had questionable English and lacked people skills and finally did not know what a circular saw was. (this is a hardware store, hire some people who know tools). The third person likewise was of no help in answering my questions. It seemed a burden to him show me the location of some of the things I came to purchase. Also no help in answering my questions regarding these. Instead he decided it was more important to practice today's social/political agenda he has apparently been programmed with (I assume Ace assisted greatly in this). He said that he believed i could make anything I wanted to make as long as I used my brain to think. I responded that I was already aware of my capabilities, but I am trying to get some help finding the rest of the proper supplies I need in order to do it. He said he was trying to pay a compliment, but it seemed quite underhanded as if he thought I lacked competence and confidence in myself because I had questions.. none of which had yet been answered (by anyone). He said he had to go because he was only 'allowed to spend 5 minutes with a problem about a tool they don't carry.' I reminded him that we had moved on from that situation and now my questions had been about about things I want to purchase from Ace. It was at this point I was done and concluded to myself that Ace does not deserve to be in business, so I will take my money elsewhere. I informed him I no longer want make any purchases and wished him a good day. As frustrated as I was with him, I blame Ace. He is clearly unhappy there and doesn't feel he has anywhere else to go work. read more

Every time I want to put a DIY mod on my bike I always come here and end up spending $50 or so in tools.. This time around I wanted to change out my grips and install some bar end mirrors. With very little knowledge of tools, looking lost in the power tool aisle, I was helped by Howie, who actually walked out to my bike and spent a good 10 minutes removing my threadlocked bar ends, even damaging a couple of his own screwdrivers in the process! Always have a great experience at this store, being helped by the friendly and knowledgeable staff. Highly recommended! read more

Great experience with the Ace Hardware in Kihei this week! I needed to have a window screen repaired so I visited the Ace Hardware store to see if they could help. They agreed to repair the screen plus modify the frame to make it less flexible. I was quoted a two day turn around. Sure enough, they called two days later to tell me the screen would be ready. When I arrived to pick-up the repaired screen I discovered that they weren't satisfied with the repairs so they built a new window screen to replace the old one. Additionally they only charged me for the repair. Big shout out to Ruth and Justin for fantastic customer service!!! read more

I've been here a few times in the past. Yesterday, I needed to cap off the waterline for my fridge. I was approached by an associate within the first minute and directed me where to go. Unfortunately, I had to wait another minute for another associate who knew more about it. I showed him pictures of what I needed capped and he picked up the items and showed me what I needed to do. I got home and tried to do it myself, even had help from maintenance to cap it off and it won't stop leaking. Did a temporary fix and called today to see what I can do about the part. The associate that answered was very helpful and told me I could go back to the store and have it returned or get a new one even if the one that I bought yesterday is mangled from trying to tighten it. I tried to patronize my local ACE Hardware store today. I stood in line the same spot I always do since the store opened. Someone cut right in front of me, I corrected their rude action but the woman behind the counter just shrugged her shoulders and laughed it off. I was offended and thought to myself what a sad state of affairs this world has come to when a store employee can't do the right thing. If you don't have to go to the Maui Lani ACE save yourself the disappointment about customer service. Take the time and go to Home Depot or Lowe's. Purchased a $10 pump at this store. Never used it and never even opened it. Returned to the store 3 days later with the sealed pump to return but forgot my receipt. They wouldn't give me a refund. Every other store I shop at (Lowes, Home Depot, etc...) can swipe the credit card you used to make the purchase and send a refund back to that card. If their system is down they give you cash. I recently visited this store and was amazed at the lack of customer service. I looked around for 10 minutes trying to find an employee to ask for help and when I asked the young lady at the paint department for help in another department she looked at me and giggled?! I trust this was because she is an English language learner and does not know how to communicate in English properly. When I called the store manager "Troy Taylor" to express my concern, her attitude in answering the phone was over-the-top rude...and that was before I could get a word out! I will NEVER shop at this store again...not only because of the lack of service and high prices, but also because half of the items in the store are not even marked with a price. Word gets around a small island, and with several (better) competitors in town, I don't expect ACE Kihei to be in business much longer. read more

Otherwise, try to take a blank key in to have a copy made - won't happen because they have a bunch of young kids that have no clue how to do it right the first time so they won't copy your key because 'we might mess up your blank and can't be responsible for it' - now that's confidence building, eh? Gotta give more props to Frazier. I went in for two things on Saturday. Before I realized that the service center had been moved to the front entrance (good move), Frazier was asking if I needed keys made, which I did. He then helped me pick out the best method for getting rid of the little critters that had come with my new car, which worked like a charm. Frazier is the kind of employee that makes a company look good (because he IS good), and it's smart to have him at the front door. The new floorplan works well, and I even bought a $5 flashlight from the myriad of impulse items in the new checkout aisle. Firstly, Ace Hardware is one of the few, if only, places on this island to find a room divider (a/ka/ shoji screen). There are more reasonably priced items online but if you prefer to buy in person, this is the only place you'll find a new one for under $100. I purchased mine and it was damaged. I was able to return it hassle-free and they offered a replacement of full refund. Their customer service was spot-on and I highly recommend them. They are also super helpful if you're looking for a particular type of bolt or screw -- patiently going through all those drawers with you until you find the right (or close enough) item. read more
