Located in the Pukalani Terrace shopping center, this hardware shop is located just next door from the Bank of Hawaii (Pukalani Branch). A few times while I was working at the both banks - Bank of Hawaii, as well as American Savings Bank, I needed a particular tool, or lubricant, and lucky for me this Ace Hardware store was just next door, so it was convenient for me where I could just walk over & get what I needed to properly finish up a job. I swear if this Ace Hardware store wasn't here, it would be very tragic for me, as I would have to get into my rental car & probably drive all the way back down to Kahului to get to the closest hardware store. This Ace Hardware store is by far not the biggest store (as compared to some of the big box hardware stores), but each time I needed something, this particular Ace Hardware store has never let me down by having the item I needed! Service here is great! If you can't find what you're looking for, no shame, just ask a clerk and they will lead you to the area where the item is. It was a great offer, where Hawaii Electric wanted people to give up energy inefficient bulbs and use more efficient LED bulbs. Well, it's a great offer if the people at the store don't refuse to do the exchange and you have to purchase the bulbs instead. That's how it went down. I decided to write to Hawaii Electric and got a nice response from Kolia, who offered to investigate the problem. It took quite a while (like she had anything more important to do? Lol) but she finally got the message across with someone at this store that I should get a refund. Kudos to Kolia for her terrific attitude and efforts to get that straightened out. So, on the following morning, I returned to the Lahaina Ace Hardware Store. I didn't want to wait until the refund offer was forgotten. I asked for the manager (I had no "Karen" attitude) and Myrar came to the checkout. I explained my reason for coming and it was obvious that she had no idea that I should be getting a refund. Someone left this manager out of the loop. Fortunately, after some friendly discussion, Myrar agreed that I should get the refund after I handed over my bag-o-bulbs. Thank you, Myrar, for making this so pleasant. I'm leaving my rating unchanged, because someone left it up to me to convince this nice lady to do the right thing.

Upon landing on Molokai, the airlines lost / misplaced all of my gear, so I was there to do an important job, but had not tools, and even lost some specialty communications cables....... Of course I opened my Yelp app. to look for the closest hardware store in conjunction to where I was working. Low & behold, I found 3 places that possibly could meet my needs - 1. Ace Hardware 2. Take's True Value Hardware Store 3. Napa Auto Parts Store I first went to Ace Hardware, but they didn't carry all the tools that I was looking for...........then I did plan "#2" and went to Take's True Value Hardware Store. BINGO!!! Take's had all the tools that I needed to complete the task I came to Molokai to do! Looking at Take's True Value...........it kinda reminded me of a smaller scale City Mill. This hardware store is locally owned, clean, and besides tools.........they also sold other items like sporting goods, plumbing items, & electrical items too! Lots of free parking in the private parking lot, but I didn't have to worry about parking, as I walked over to the store from the bank. When you arrive to the store they tell you, "oh I don't know, the manager sells it, I don't know what time the manager arrives, he sells a little bit at a time." If that's the case, why does this store advertise on the website "available to purchase in store" if they're going to discriminate and decide who they want to sell to? I didn't have any luck explaining i wanted a single sheet of 5/8 CDX and cut it in four 24" x 48" pieces. All I needed was one lumber person, but none were inside or outside. It was worth the drive to Kona. Home Depot had excellent service. A lumber man saw I was having difficulty loading a couple sheets onto the cart (I am weaker than a new born pup after battling Cancer for a year.). He cut them in no time at all.! The lower prices covered the cost of gas there and back. I hope they take this to heart and train their people better.
