Limited parking and services, but an excellently maintained elevated boardwalk that instantly puts you at ease. You are surrounded by greenery, birdsong, and the trickle of a creek as you make your way to the giant old growth cedar tree. It is a (mostly flat) trail (~ 1 mile) and I shared the path with strollers, pets (on leashes), and several folks in wheelchairs, or with mobility aids. It is a nice way to beat the heat and coastal winds since it is quite sheltered. While I only saw one picnic table at the two trail endpoints, there are benches throughout. Truly a magical place.

It's pretty flat most of the way, just a slight incline and decline near the tree. They have a small parking lot available, but if it's full, people park along highway 101. There's a lot of vegetation to view along the way too. Mushrooms, bleeding hearts, fuschias, etc. Would highly recommend.

A little disappointed but you can't stop Mother Nature. The trees and bush have block the view entirely. The stream that runs along the path you can see in spots. After about 3min of rough going, we figured out that no tire tracks mean we took the wrong fork in the road. FYI- there's no internet when you get off the main road. When we got to the right place, parking was super easy, and even though it was rainy and soggy and no one was around, we took all our stuff out of the car anyway. There were reports that people's cars were broken into, so yeah- took everything. The water fall is like, an easy 1/4 mile up through some lush greenery. The path is, maybe kinda paved, but not smooth. Incline is rather minimal. The waterfall at the end is pretty cool. Not loads of water, but you're really close to the river the whole way up. It was a relaxing walk, and entirely pretty and pleasant. It's worth a look if you have an extra 30-45min., maybe if you're going out to the Tillamook creamery or just headed up or down the coast.

Lots of out of state folks here doing this hike- I'm sure it would be quite packed on a weekend. The trail itself was a bit overgrown and narrow in parts. Beware of game trails, I missed a turn and found myself a ways down a game trail before turning around. The view at the top is amazing, definitely don't just view from the lower trail. If you're able- climb up the rock face to see the view from the peak. It's so worth it!

Going back to the car afterwards is a bit more challenging though because elevation. At the end, you can climb down to get closer, but it's a bit too technical for the kids. The drive there is interesting with lots of windy roads. Make sure you route your trip on GPS there and back while you have signal. I lost all signal up there.

We started along the bay first where there were some good birdwatching opportunities. After walking a bit, we came to a info sign explaining the history behind the old Bayocean townsite...pretty cool to read about. We chose to turn in there and head towards the beach. After some twists and turns, and plowing our way through forehead high grass, we finally emerged. We had the entire beach to ourselves...apparently a crab graveyard, but a peaceful spot nonetheless. We decided it was best to walk back down the beach as far as possible back towards the lot before venturing back into the bush to our van. I'm more of a forest gal than a beach one, so this wasn't my favorite hike. But it was interesting learning about the history of Bayocean...and it was a pretty fun adventure.

I found it gets the zoomies out of them and that makes for a quiet night, most times. Sometimes you have a small group of littles and they somehow are fueled by the laughter of other kids and seem to possess unlimited energy. We camp closest to the beach. There is no shade there. We bring our own but at night, the stars are like street lights. It's beautiful. The moon at times feels like you could grab it. The ocean will put you to sleep like a Dr.s prescription. It's amazing. All the bathrooms get used a lot because of the amount of people who stay here but they are constantly being cleaned. The showers are a little strange to me but good. Don't try to park an extra vehicle on your spot even if only unloading. The parking is terrible BUT way down the road, on the "Day Use Area" is plenty of parking. Ya, we all hate parking in the D.U.A. They hold cultural events in the D.U.A. We've seen some awesome Native American dancers. They looked super cool. The beach access is at either end of the dune. The beach is clean and the waves aren't that vicious. The shore is nice and shallow. Low tide brings a whole different look to the area with smooth rock surfaces and cobblestones. Of course the ocean is always awesome.

What a wonderful under the radar waterfall this is...Beaver Falls!…read more Located 6 miles east of Clatskanie, Oregon, this area near the Columbia River is beautiful. Let's get straight to the heart of what Beaver Falls is all about... If you plug "Beaver Falls Trailhead" into Google Maps, you'll have no problem finding it. Then just park along the side of Highway 30 and hike 1/3rd of a mile through the forest to the base of the falls. It's that easy. When I visited on a Thursday in early afternoon of July, there was hardly anyone around which was good for taking quality photos. Best of all, you can swim in the waters. So definitely bring a bathing suit, towel and a pair of water shoes so the rocks won't hurt your feet while entering the pool beneath Beaver Falls. The water is cold but once you jump in and get comfortable, it's a terrific setting. There's also a long rope where you can swing across and splash down below. It's great for kids (and adults too, lol) to have playful times. For me, I was content soaking in the pool and appreciating the surroundings. More info... - It's free to visit. - Cell phone reception works fine. - You can walk underneath the falls! This is a Must-Do. You can capture some amazing moments standing beside Beaver Falls. It's not hard or dangerous and offers a unique perspective. - Beaver Falls is just one of many outstanding waterfalls situated around Oregon and especially near the Columbia River. There's also Lower Lewis River Falls, Panther Creek Falls and Spirit Falls, to name a few. - You can spend a few hours hanging out or as little as 30 - 40 minutes. It depends on your time horizon. But overall, it's really pleasant to be here that I'd suggest bringing snacks, lunch and maybe having a picnic. This Beaver Falls is absolutely so much fun to hang out at. When you can swim in the waters, swing from a rope and even walk underneath the falls, It makes for a worthwhile summer visit.

There is parking right at the beach access with a restroom (though from reading it's not always open) and if you're looking for a less crowded option on the coast, you should give this a visit. I believe out and back it's about a mile, and it's all boardwalk. The first part is a dense swamp...so dense it was hard to see into the forest/woods. Then the second half were the huge trees typical along the Oregon coast. Lots of wildlife to hear and see (birds, squirrels, and chipmunks). And it's just off the main road in Rockaway. If you can spare 30min-1hr, I would definitely recommend it.

I always like to find new walks for my dog so this seemed like a good place to check out…read more There is a designated parking lot and the trail has wooden planks so it's very even which is good for me because I have a bad knee. Also, my dog is getting older so that made it easier for her to walk as well. There were lots of benches and places to stop and it was mostly shaded. There was lots of greenery to look at and we saw plenty of birds. I could also hear the sounds of water and I think they're is a little stream nearby or perhaps under the walkway. It was a nice walk with good scenery and I really liked the giant tree at the end.

Approaching the town from the road, it just looks really cool. And the beach itself is nice and expansive. It can be a bit rough and dark, so be cautious and aware of your surroundings as there are low hanging walls.
