Stumbled across this quaint little spot driving south after visiting Cannon Beach and I have to say it's a great place to spend some time! There is parking right at the beach access with a restroom (though from reading it's not always open) and if you're looking for a less crowded option on the coast, you should give this a visit. Beautiful. Substantial amount of parking spaces with a restroom (sometimes closed). Not as frequented as CB which makes it perfect for those avoiding the high season crowds. Dog friendly and most owners here are courteous to keep their pups on leashes. *Farthest left and/or right sides are only reachable during low tides. Some have been surprised by this and have had to climb slippery rocks to get back or wade through the waves. Give your loved one a hug when you are here ;) read more

Large open flat beach! Perfect spot for a picnic, sand toy time, and beach strolling. I went at very low tide and was graced with views of the historic route around the point and sea caves. Totally worth the timing to see the cool geology and history. Parking lot is small and this is a free park to visit. People with difficulties will not be able to access the beach here as there are stairs down to the beach. read more

Cool spot with lots of character and, thanks to a lack of parking, doesn't feel overly crowded. We had to park along the 101 on this Saturday afternoon...we were pretty thankful to have squeezed in at all. There is a parking lot, but it fills up fast. We failed to check on the tides, and as a result got a lil cove-blocked by Mother Nature, but we still got to explore the immediate area. Great cave-like cracks to check out, it's just a gorgeous spot to hang out or roam. The falls, although just a trickle at this time of year, were still lovely. Just another special stop along the beautiful Oregon coast. More to see and do, we will be back! read more

I came for a vacation get away.. it was low tide so we felt totally comfortable exploring all areas of the beach. If you plan on snapping some pics your going to have to be patient as a lot of people are there to capture the beauty of this location. I heard about Hug Point on OnlyInYourState.com, and being on the coast to escape the dreadful heat (115°!) back in Portland this weekend, we had to check it out. Unfortunately, a lot of other people had the same idea, and the parking lot was completely full, so we found a spot along the highway and walked our way back towards the "official" entrance way to the park. However, a few hundred feet from the parking lot entrance, we found a rough trail that wound its way down the cliff towards the freshwater stream that feeds the waterfall. This trail includes a rope that some helpful hiker (or trail management team) installed to help secure your footing down an otherwise treacherous descent - absolutely NOT recommended for acrophobes or the inexperienced. But if you can manage rappelling down a steep, uneven trail, you have instant access to the best part of Hug Point, emerging from the stream bed atop the waterfall that flows down to the beach itself, even if the tides otherwise block your approach from the main entrance! Even on a perfect, 85° day, this secluded stretch of sand was nearly devoid of people; only one other party was present during our visit at 2:30pm, despite the aforementioned parking lot being full. We explored the caves, splashed around in the waterfall and freshwater stream, explored nearby tidepools, and enjoyed the peace and seclusion of this fabulous spot. New favorite Oregon beach? Great little beach area very near Cannon Beach's Haystack Rock area, very much worth a stop! There's a lovely waterfall on the beach. It was a small trickle when I visited but apparently gets quite large when there's enough water! The parking was free when we visited, not sure if you normally have to pay. It's a paved lot on a fairly steep hill and is pretty busy. But we didn't have to wait long for a spot. There's also a bathroom in the parking area. After parking, it's a small hike down to the beach. The beach is clean with soft sand and lots of caves! There were broken sand dollars scattered all over the sand! We even saw a brilliant purple jellyfish! Would be a great spot for a beach day or picnic! read more

Hidden Gem! This is one of the most underrated spots in the Cannon beach area. We learned about this spot from a local who runs a shop in town. I wish I knew her name (or the name of her shop) so I could give her a shoutout. You have to walk down a pretty short beach path to get here and, once you do, you are rewarded with some amazing scenery and natural forms. There is a little waterfall and, at low tide, you can explore some of the caves and crevices down on the beach. There were even MORE starfish and sea anemones here than at Haystack rock a mile down the beach. An added bonus was that there were very few people on this beach. It was mostly joggers and people walking their dogs. Definitely make the drive to this spot. There is a nice parking lot and it would be a great place to have a picnic or a fire at night. DO not miss out on Hug Point! read more

Absolutely spectacular. We arrived at a high tide so it wasn't as easy to get around the rocks to visit the waterfall and caves, but took our socks and shoes off despite other people telling us "it wasn't worth it." They were dead wrong! This was such a beautiful spot and we had it all to ourselves (after the grouchy people left)! Definitely check it out. You won't be sorry. read more

I've found myself a new favorite spot on Oregon's north coast! Just south of Cannon Beach, Hug Point is a stunningly gorgeous stretch of shoreline that really has to be seen to be appreciated. First, I strongly suggest going at low tide as that'll open up so many opportunities for exploration. Just North of the entrance you can explore sea caves, check out a waterfall that goes straight into the Pacific, and play hopscotch on rocks as the waves crash below your feet. To the South you can take a long-ish walk down to some impressive monoliths that are accessible for climbing. Additionally this is where there's significantly more room to lay out a blanket, set up some chairs, and have a full beach day. Because it's the Oregon Coast, feel free to make a fire! And if you keep walking far enough south, you'll make it to Arch Cape and its tidepools! Parking is quite limited, and the word is definitely getting out on how nice of a beach this is. You'll really want to visit on your next trip to the coast. read more

Hug point is on Pacific Scenic Byway with beach access. This location is at miles post 33.7. The beach access road has the stair to get below the Clift and onto the beach. It is at Arch Cape. The area includes beach and two cave. The time we visit only see one cave due to high tide. Planning on the low tide will see more. It supposed to be one waterfall but it was on other side of the cliff which only access through low tide. Nonetheless, we enjoyed our time here. So do the bird and dog on the beach. The cave is a good hiding place during raining. Good solid cover. read more

The secret is out on this spot which is unfortunate but I cannot blame everyone for talking it up since it is one of my favorite Oregon coast areas. I have been coming here for years and it really is an ideal spot to meet up with friends since from the top of the hill at the parking lot entrance to it, you can scan the beach for your peeps and then wander down to join them. There is a good sized parking area for people which is easy to navigate in and out of with lots of roadway parking options also nearby if the parking lot is full which we discovered on a recent visit but to be fair, we really were not THAT far away and the walk was fine. It was also one of the first truly warm weekends of the season. There are bathrooms in the parking lot which they actually do keep pretty clean so they are not terribly tragic. There are ADA spots for parking but I do not recommend this area to anyone with limited mobility since there is a very steep stairway down to a rocky landing which extends out for quite a distance and then it is straight beach. The beaches themselves, even on a "crowded day" are pretty clear and there is plenty of space for you and your family to stretch out. Many dog owners come out to this area. When the tide is out a bit, there are some super fun cave sections to explore but I do warn you that the tide sometimes leaves deceased critters behind so be mindful if you have kids with you. The cave areas are quite fun to wander through but also be mindful of your feet protection! Head either direction down the shore and there are gorgeous views and places to explore. We usually will send the day lunching here and then wander into Cannon Beach on the way home for some tasty dinner since it is right on your way back into Portland. read more

Beautiful Recreation site on the coast once you precede down the embankment of stairs head right around the bend and you will come across a magical waterfall and some interesting caves to explore. Watch the tide though or you'll be wading back towards the parking lot as the creek rises. Worth a stop like all OREGON beaches:) read more

Such an awesome beach. We came during the summer and it was gorgeous. During low tide, you can run into the caves and check this area out that is usually unaccessible because of the water. We came during sunset and the parking lot was pretty empty. The beach wasn't crowded at all. We brought a picnic and ate it by the beach. I highly recommend this beautiful state park. I stopped into see the waterfall and caves. To my dismay, it was high tide today. We were unable to walk to the waterfall/caves & tide pools. Great views of beautiful rocks, caves and waterfall all in one stop. Loved it and will be returning again when in the area. I have traveled this road several times and had no idea how stunning it was. One outhouse/restroom and garbage cans at the parking area. When you get down the stairs to beach go to the right. You will find the waterfall to the right. Continue past the waterfall and in the next set of rocks is an amazing deeper cave. Make sure before going you are aware of the tides so you can go while on low tide. read more

What an awesome find!!! We almost didn't stop because it just seemed like a small park and view point. There is a one way road with some tight parking but it is worth it! This recreation site has picnic tables, a sheltered beach, and its not over croweded. There were only about 10 cars here and not many people at all. We took a walk down the beach and saw a seal up on the beach, starfish attached to one of the rocks, and sea urchins. The beach was easy to walk on and I could've stayed all day! Wow this is one of the most interesting beaches I've ever been to. Looks like it's right out of the Goonies. (Actually I think this is the area where it was filmed) If you're expecting a nice warm breeze, think again. Expect brisk cold winds right off the Pacific. I went in the summer time, but I hear this is a great spot for storm watching in the fall. Another neat feature of this beach area are the two waterfalls that spill right onto the beach and run into the sea. There also some interesting caves and rock out crops to explore as well. Just remember this is near an active fault and the tsunami evacuation signs are something to take seriously. read more

We actually arrived after low tide, and the water was coming in. Still, we managed to walk the area, see some of the caves, and get quite wet as the water kept coming in. Absolutely amazing, seeing what low tide uncovers, and realizing what it covers up again - twice each day. We liked this area as it was semi-private, only one other family was wandering the area (and they were leaving, as, again, the tide was coming in...) Definitely recommended. read more

So this little point is nice. I wasn't super pleased after I left but it was nice. You can climb up to the top of the hill to the right of the parking lot and over look the beach to the left and the caves to the right. It's a nice little spot to hang out and have some lunch. We then went down to the beach and it's fairly big. Nothing special about it though. During low tide you can walk to the caves and hang out there but the tide was too high and water was actually in the cave when we visited. If you're around the area to sight see, it's a nice quick spot to stop at. read more

When I went, it was cold and windy there. But this beach has nice views, interesting small caves to explore, and a little waterfall too. It has a tidepool or two, but they're smaller than the one at Cannon Beach. There are a lot of barnacles on the rocks. There is a parking lot right next to the entrance to this beach. It's a decent size and free too. There are also washrooms nearby. After the parking lot, you have to go down stairs and across many large rocks before you get to the beach, so it's not handicapped-friendly. At high tide, you can only see one small cave. At low tide, you can walk around the mountain to see other caves and the waterfall, and even to the more well known Cannon Beach. The water seemed warmer to me at high tide. read more
