Now it's a big decision to make when you're deciding where to go for your birthday breakfast…read more However every time I've seen a Roasters update on Instagram or Facebook I've said 'Yup, going there for my bday'. The bonus was also that they open at 8am which was perfect for me finishing after nightshift. Got parked no bother right outside (remember free parking on Sundays in the city centre!). Almost cried when we walked in and the waitress said there was no chef yet and she didn't know where he was. Took the brave decision to have a drink and wait on the chef coming (he did fairly soon after thank god!). Roasters are notorious for their freakshakes and being slightly peanut butter daft I just had to! It was so good moreso at 8.15am. It was somehow not too sickly and the peanut taste came over really well without being overpowering. I'd already decided I'd wanted pancakes so decided to go for the mix and match. The raspberry and white chocolate was by far my favourite - such a fab combo! I added banana to the Nutella pancakes which was definitely a good shout. The Oreo creme pancake was a big disappointment. It was so overly sickly with the whipped cream on top that I couldn't even stomach it. The portion sizes were unreal. The pancakes were bigger than my head!! I'm an absolute gannet and always polish my plate clean but I just couldn't. Probably only managed about half before I started feeling like a lie down! I cannot wait to come back and try some of their savoury options - the grilled cheeses look particularly good! Only one gripe is that it was freezing in there but that was probably a good idea considering I started getting sweats from the sugar overload.

I called in one morning just for a coffee to go as l had to be elsewhere not long after. There where no cakes on offer or snacks in view but hey they have only been here a day or two and I'm sure when they settle in they will have everything sorted and looking nice. Atmosphere It felt that this place is still a working progress and there are quite a few things that needed finishing of but l did like the colour scheme that was chosen, it did stand out. Food I did take a glance at the menu and glad that it's not me cooking as it looked like a lot of items and ingredients and that equals to a lot of faffing about especially in a small kitchen than keeping things basic they're rather fancy but l suppose you have to be different than the other competitors. I will be back soon and spot what has been changed.

The back opens out into a cafe which serves freshly cooked breakfast and lunch dishes. Heartening to see such top quality from a Helensburgh establishment which would receive plaudits in the West End of Glasgow. The proprietors clearly have high standards. Situated just round the corner from Helensburgh Central Railway Station, The Buffet Shop is the perfect place to top for tea and a bun while you are waiting for the train. My only complaint is the relatively early closing time of 4pm.

Given the precedent set by waterfront businesses, I fully expected a shop of this name to be a proprietor of sausage rolls and cheese sandwiches, with a range of chipolatas covered in bacon if you were planning a fancy dinner party. Instead what greeted me was a deli which wouldn't look out of place in the swishest areas of the country. With vibrant, friendly and helpful staff, this place is a breath of fresh air for the town and offers some truly sumptuous deli treats, including a fantastic range of freshly made sandwiches. There is also a well presented seated area in which you can enjoy a meal. Indeed the two course lunch deal at 7.95 is astoundingly good value for money and comes highly recommended.

This little take away lunch spot popped up late last year on St. Enoch square and immediately…read morepiqued my interest. As the name would suggest it's loaded with American style food, don't be down heartened though this is no run of the mill 'American diner' serving cheap hot dogs and yucky burgers from the cash and carry. The food from Nic's is tasty, well thought out and delicious. There are of course the likes of baked potatoes and sandwiches with lovely looking toppings to be enjoyed. My eyes however were very much glued to the Hot Dog menu where you can try such delights as the amazing Cheesy Pig Dog ( bacon and cheese) or the BBQ Dog (sweet fried onions, BBQ Sauce and dill pickle) or the very tempting Glasga Dog ( black Pudding and fried egg). What makes these dogs in my opinion the best take away dogs in Glasgow is that they fry off their dogs for a few minutes which makes them extra tasty. I've not tried the freshly made pancakes or waffles yet but they do come with some lovely looking toppings - the Banana Beast ( banana, maple, pecan nuts and ice cream) Peanut Butter Jelly Time (peanut butter and blackcurrant or strawberry jam) or the Sweet Porker Stack ( bacon and maple syrup) these are definitely next on my list to try from the menu. On my last visit I finally gave in to the cool looking doughnuts. These lovely little clouds of light dough are made in-house ensuring they are as fresh as they come. The base is so soft and flavoursome, the topping is a luscious thick layer of fondant sprinkled with a variety of American style toppings - Oreo, peanut butter cups, smarties, marshmallows......the list is endless. What really excited me tho was while chatting with the girls they announced that they were expecting their doughnut menus to arrive any minute. Hang on! Let's just think about that for a second........a menu......dedicated to doughnuts.......it's the stuff of dreams! Nic's is a great wee lunch spotwhere they use really good quality food and the girls who work there are all lovely and helpful when trying to make your selection....what's not to love about this place.

I found this place on Yelp (just like I always do for the best-kept secrets just waiting to be…read morefound) and I'm really glad I did. When you go in, it looks just like a normal deli... then you notice the amazing menu (taco bowls, proper dogs, "Triple Bypass" baguette etc.) and the cheeky bottle of Buckfast that's apparently used on Fridays to make some of their food a little more special. Going back to the food, it did take me a couple of minutes to choose what to have because EVERYTHING looked awesome. Even the SALADS!!! I was guided by the lovely staff who work there and plumped for the Taco bowl. A large, crispy tortilla shaped into a bowl stuffed with salad, guacamole, sour cream, PULLED PORK (this was my topping), covered with jack cheese and some Glasgow Megadeath chilli sauce. Great stuff. And for dessert you MUST get one of their special donuts... loads of flavours. Think Krispy Kreme but without the nasty aftertaste (you know what I mean!). If you've never been here, cancel all of your other plans and go here ASAP! You won't regret it...
