If you're boating on Harrison Lake make sure you check out 'Killer's Cove Marina' for boat, Jet Ski and water sports rentals. Killer's is Conveniently located on the docks just in front of Harrison Resort and Spa and is a lot cheaper than Harrison Watersports, also Killer's Cove is a family owned and operated business so you can feel good supporting it. FYI: Harrison Watersports requires a $2500 damage deposit versus the $700 Killer's charged (& refunded us). We had our choice of boats at varying rates and they gave our driver a detailed safety course with equipment and maps. They conveniently gave us the option to split up our rental time (6 hours) over a couple days or load up a redeemable card on the off chance that we didn't use up all our time on this visit. Things to know: - They won't allow you to make out of town reservations over the phone, you need to do them in person so check them out the day before you want to rent if at all possible. - The boats don't have stereos so bring your own. We were forewarned so it wasn't an issue to just bring our own ipod dock and speakers. - You can rent a 'tube' to pull behind the boat for an additional $20 a day, I highly recommend it! Us three adults had a great time with ours :) We had such an amazing day, if/when I'm back to Harrison I'll be sure to grab another boat from Killer's. The rental process was quick and painless and our day on the water was easily the most memorable of the trip. read more

They have kayaks and provide all the gear you need including lifejacket, paddle, paddle float, pump and rope. Using a paddle float takes some skill so unless you know what you are doing I'm not sure why they give this too you. The boats that they give you are hard to capsize. But watch out for the wake from motorboats. Many have no clue about the effect they have on a small canoe or kayak. You can't paddle far but they do allow you to go down the river which is very nice. Terribly organized and poor customer service. completely inadequate set up to deal with what seemed like moderate demand on a sunny July afternoon. Non-motorized rentals totally overlooked in favour of the motorized reservations I get these rentals are small change in comparison, but if you're going to offer them, make sure you're staffed adequately to deal with both. We were told no need to make a reservation for a pedalboat in advance - although I don't believe that would have got us through the line any quicker - and after an hour of waiting, with the line not moving and constantly being queue-jumped by motorized boat groups, we gave up. An extra person dedicated to non-motorized boats would be an easy investment to recoup with just a couple of rentals and would allow assets just sitting there to earn the company money! Myself and my Family had a frighteningly similar experience at the start of the summer. I had two small children on board, who now will no longer boat. When we returned to the marina we were greeted with hostility and one or two of the staff were aggressive in their approach to the situation - which further rattled my young children. My husband ended up not fighting the EXTRA charge they placed on his credit card, as he didn't not want our children to suffer any further trauma if he engaged the abusive staff in a out right war of words. I made it my business to warn other guests staying in my hotel not to visit this boat rental outfit and I wish i had wrote this sooner so that the experience i have just read about from another group of customers could have been avoided. read more

The boats were nice and well maintained, however, the lack of any level of customer service was disheartening. The owner prods around like he is royalty and is not willing to hear any of his customers concerns. He treats customers like they are scam artists if they raise any concerns. As a group of individuals whom prefer to spend more money for a greater level of customer service, we would not return to rent from Killer's Cove; however, if you aren't concerned about being treated like a thief, they have some great rates. Harrison Water Sports across the dock actually wanted our business and treated us with respect, gave us exactly what we wanted and didn't make us feel like we were trying to scam them. Two bad experiences with Killer's Cove have left me and my friends contemplating buying a boat share rather then ever renting again. wow these reviews arent good so far but we had a perfectly fine experience with killers cove. Staff were quick and got us on the water fast and safely with our gear. Had a great full 6 hours on the water and the price drops drastically if you go for longer. Saw the waterfall from a distance and rode all day on one tank of gas, not even. The boats were good and fast and realistically if you want to rent a boat(which is already silly expensive) his are half the price of the marina on the left of the dock...literally half the price and the deposit is only 600 bux vs 2500 at the opther place. I just returned from Harrison with my wife and my one year old daughter. I moored my sailboat at Killer's Cove for 4 days. My first encounter with Killer was over the phone when I called to ask if he had a slip and if so where to report. After the brief phone call, both my friend (who initially made that call but handed me the phone) and I thought the fellow sounded very rude. As we motored to the marina, my friend and I read some of the reviews on yelp and I was beginning to think we should head to another marina. I was determined to have a good time though and usually I can break through to even rude people with my natural friendliness. When we arrived at the dock, a nice but very green fuel dock attendant helped us dock. We were out in the heat all day and were thankful to get to shore. She asked, "How are you doing?" I replied, "We are better now that we have seen you." We so much wanted to just dock and hit a patio for a beer. Moments later I met Mr. Killer and his gruff nature was evident upon word one. He showed us to a slip and helped us tie down. He struck me as the type that knows his inclination is to be rude and he tries really hard not to be but cant help himself. I did see he was rather gruff with his new employee, a young and very green gal with very limited knowledge of the lake who did not seem to know too much about boats aside from what Killer taught her. Having spent many a summer around fuel docks as a young lad, I told her to enjoy the job and I told her she will do fine. I sensed she needed positive encouragement that she would not get from her boss. I told her not to let any boaters push her around by not following the rules regarding safe fueling etc. To my surprise she said Killer doesn't mind if people stay in the boat during refueling and he is pretty laid back about that stuff. Kinda odd because the first thing an attendant should do is insist everyone is OFF the boat before beginning to refuel a boat. This is a basic safety rule followed by all fuel docks. If there is one thing he SHOULD be gruff and stern about is that basic safety rule. Anyway, I would periodically go to the fuel dock to check the waves and pay my moorage fee. And I would always ask how things were going etc. On a slow part of the day, I chatted with the two fuel dock attendants and I received a text from a friend of mine who also met Killer saying, "How is Killer treating you in HIS Cove? lol..." I laughed and texted him back, "I am doing fine. Nice place here. Just sitting here at the end of the dock chatting with the fuel dock gals." I told the fuel dock gals what I sent. The next day I met Killer's wife. She is really nice. And knows a lot about boats....sail boats in particular. She is a genuinely friendly person who went out of her way to make me feel at home. After meeting her and comparing her demeanor to Mr. Killer, I thought to myself, "I guess opposites do attract!" Anyway, on my last evening at the marina, I brought my wife and my 1 year old daughter down to the boat to make them a pasta dinner. We just bought our baby a new life jacket and it was going to be her first time on our sailboat. She was excited because she was used to daddy's boat being in the driveway. "Daddy's boat...daddy's boat...." was repeated all the way to the marina. As I was cooking lunch and sitting in the cabin of my sailboat with my wife and daughter, we were all startled with a loud and hard "thud thud thud" on the upper deck. I surfaced from the sailboat.....and there was Mr. Killer with a scowl on his face. "What's up, Killer?" "The girls are saying you are talking inappropriately to them." I was shocked and all I could say is, "How so?" He replied, "You sent an inappropriate text." I answered, "Come on man....that was nothing...my wife is here. I was just joking around." And then he says, "Well, you wont be joking around like that here. You stay away from those kids. This is a business. You stay away from them." He went on this rant right in front of my daughter and my wife. Insinuating that I was trying to do something untoward with two teenage dock attendants on his dock. My wife and I were amazed. Could not believe it. It was surreal. I thought about what could have prompted this outburst. My wife and I decided to walk down the dock to talk to the girl who allegedly reported me to Mr. Killer for inappropriate comments. Mr. Killer and the gal were locking up the fuel dock and wouldn't come out so my one year old daughter and I just tapped on the window, waved goodbye and left them alone. The next morning, with all due haste, I left Killer's Cove. Never to return again. Very weird vibe there. Ironic note: The fellow who accuses me of talking inappropriately to young girls is the same fellow who puts scantily clad models in pirate themed lingerie from what looks like a swinger's convention on his signs. read more

David if you're reading this let me remind you that you shouldn't make your customers embarrassed, especially when it's their first time. You should be ashamed of yourself. Haven't you been educated? A group of seven of us went to Killer's Cove Marina to rent a pontoon boat 3 weeks ago. The people working there were adequately polite when we were inquiring about the rentals (and collecting all the money), and gave us quotes on the pricing and such. They made the transaction pretty simple, we provided a credit card, and signed off with the typical rental agreements. One man, who we later found out was the owner, did come into the shop talking loudly and rudely to the people working there, which was pretty uncomfortable. He was being very condescending to them, and in front of customers - which looking back now was a good indicator of how he treats everyone, customers included. We were instructed by the people who worked there to go to see a waterfall, which was about 20 minutes out on Harrison Lake. This sounded like a good idea, so we followed their suggestion, and headed out. The important bit to note here was that the only other instruction given was "push handle forward to go forward, and back to reverse". Ok, easy enough. We had rented the boat for 2 hours, so when we arrived at the waterfall, and had a dip in the water, we recognized that the current was pretty strong. We decided to start to head back, as it was becoming increasingly windy outside -- and a few waves started to leap up onto the boat deck. Within a few minutes of getting the boat turned around to head back into the marina (which was not even a visible shoreline at this point), the swells on the lake were what I could only describe as torrential conditions, and were breaking off the front of the boat, and overtaking the whole platform every couple of seconds. It was as if we were on the open water in the ocean...this was NOT what was described to us at the marina. For the next 35 minutes, we struggled to keep everyone on board as the boat continuously got dunked underwater, soaking everyone and everything on the platform---how none of us got swept over, I still don't know. The swells were so intense, the boat would turn itself sideways and we could feel it coming close to capsizing. It was terrifying because driving into the waves was essentially sinking the boat, putting us risk of being swept over, and trying to move to the shore was putting us at risk of tipping...needless to say, it was NOT pleasant, and we felt extremely vulnerable on the open water. Soaked from head to toe over and over again, and shaking from the cold water and wind, we finally and thankfully got back to the marina. All of us were upset, and had obviously been shaken to the core, and quite frankly, we had been afraid for our lives. The way we were greeted by the marina staff is the whole point of this comment. I am thoroughly DISGUSTED by their treatment of their customers. There was a point that one of our passengers actually crawled across the boat floor to radio for help, and there was no answer! The marina staff first of all, made fun of us for "not being able to handle the lake", and then bragged about how they had been boating the lake their whole lives (I have found out this is a family operation...I guess they grew up in the area). The fact that they 'know the lake' and its tendency to be that torrential infuriates me even more, as they would have known to warn us of these conditions! They showed absolutely no indication of empathy for the situation that they had put us in. They exemplified a gross negligence for our safety, and they took no accountability for having directed us out into such an unsafe situation. To make matters worse, the woman who greeted us at the marina only had one concern, and that was charging us for the "RENT ME" sign that had been knocked off its welded on hinges by the horrible conditions. The owner of the business even had the audacity to try and lie and tell us that the sign had never been knocked off previously, even though one of the workers there had already told us it had. The point is, he is lucky none of us died, and all he was concerned about was charging the credit card for a sign on the boat. Truly repulsive. We also found out another pontoon boat with children had been MIA for an hour, and knowing that these people sent a family out there with young children is appalling. Thank goodness none of us had brought any children on the boat, I can't even imagine how scary that would be for a parent to hang on to their child in those conditions. You would hope that the first rule of anyone who is interested or even permitted to run such a business would be SAFETY. Clearly, these 'business people' do not know what they are doing, and it's extremely dangerous. read more

Awful business run by awful people. Went there last weekend, had actually heard a number of bad reviews of this place from a friend before we went up to Harrisson, and a couple of the local business owners also advised us to steer clear, but due to location decided to risk it. Big mistake - discourteous, pushy, aggressive to each other and to the customer. Overheard a conversation with the owner (not sure his name) and one of the younger staff (maybe his son?) about how to push for more cash pout of people - direct people out as far as you can on the lake so they use up more fuel at their exorbitant prices, and should they get in trouble and need rescuing they can be charged on that as well. My girlfriend mentioned it to the owner that she had overheard and the owner became very aggressive, in front of other customers in the store. Needless to say we walked away at that point, and thankfully at least one other family left as well having seen this. On a side-note, we were discussing this with a local later that evening, and apparently this company is renound in the are for doing this - essentially putting people;s lives at risk to maximise how much money they can make off them. He claimed to know of 2 official complaints that had been made to the Better Business Bureau and the Chamber of Commerce. I would imagine this is a suitable service if you are an experienced Boater and will know enough to see through their garbage, but for anyone new to boating and looking for a positive experience, stay away!!! read more

Worst customer service ever! They're looking for any and every excuse to take your damage deposit! We had no choice as Harrison water sports was totally sold out! I waited in the unorganized mile long line for 1 hour to just find out what the availability is for boats. Once at the front it's literally like a third work mad rush ... Ppl trying to talk over one another to get answers and some service ! Only 2 ladies working at the front and they no nothing but yelling and loud repetition of how you can damage their boats. It's like we're renting to damage and not to enjoy...! We've rented many boats but never witnessed and gong show! They asked us to be at the same overloaded room 1 hr prior to our booking and my lord... We stood with our full group of 18 with little kids for an hour and did nothing but hear the lady scream and nag about her boats. Finally we get to our boat and waited for another 20 mins for someone to come start us up and hand over the keys! We were sitting there running into our booked time slot and the Shakira girl has attitude and asked me to post this mentioning her name and how rudely she serves her customers over their booking time! Telling me that we will charge u for the hour no matter how late their process is! I'm telling you if you can book elsewhere these guys are NUTS! If only I could give 0 stars. On Tuesday 9/20 I gave Steve 48 hours notice I'd want a kayak on Thursday. Wednesday I confirmed a time of 7:30 am via text and a phone call leaving all relevant credit card information. We had also emailed previously. On Thursday I got up early for the 3-4 kayak ride up the river which we had discussed. 7:30 Thursday morning, no Steve, no kayak and no phone call. I called and texted at 8am and 48 hours later I am still awaiting this horrible business man's call/text or email to explain why he never showed up. I've never been to Harrison lake and was really looking forward to the kayak adventure. If he had the courtesy to let me know he wasn't coming I could have made alternate arrangements. read more

WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE I HAVE EVER EXPERIENCED. I rented a single kayak for my brother and I. He went in first and got into the water fine. When it was my turn, as the lady pushed, my kayak tipped over and I ended up getting dumped into the lake. I obviously didn't want to do it all over again and proceed as I was soaking wet and in shock. My brother who was already on the lake did not even kayak for two minutes and he no longer wanted to continue because he saw what happened. The whole incident was such a disaster, so I asked for my money back since we both did not actually get to kayak. Unfortunately, the young blonde lady with a broken leg who called herself "the manager" said they do not give refunds. SERIOUSLY? I JUST GOT DUMPED INTO THE LAKE! She was very rude and insistent, not even apologetic, and made me feel bad for their wrongdoing. There was nothing stated ANYWHERE in that place or even in the contract that they do not do refunds for such a thing (I took a blank copy of the contract for proof). It makes sense to get refunded for getting dumped into the water by accident (or maybe on purpose?). Who would want to try it again after being pushed into the lake? It doesn't make sense that I paid to get dumped into the water. You would think they could have at least given me something, but they didn't! I left the place soaking wet and cold, and without my refund. The way the manager handled my situation and as well as her attitude was unnecessary and unprofessional. I strongly recommend that nobody goes there. read more
