I bought an Echo pole saw over the phone from Killian's and have nothing but great things to say about my experience, both from the initial phone purchase and the pickup of the saw this weekend. Jordan was extremely helpful over the phone - I am an hour away- as were the other people I spoke with. The same is true of when I picked up the saw yesterday (two weeks after buying over the phone). Brandon, Jordan, Ashley, and Sharon could not have been nicer nor more professional. The workers at Killians were amazing, so helpful and welcoming and it's doesn't hurt that they stock about every mower and outdoor tool you can think of. Peter, one of the workers there helped us find the perfect mower in our price range and was very honest and thoughtful when looking at all the other mowers with us. When we got home with the mower we had some questions about it and Peter personally came over after work to come check it out and explained everything we needed to know about it. I had dealt with Killian's for years to purchase mowers. I bought a new Toro Zero Turn Timecutter in 2018 after my husband passed. I took it to them for service every year we used it. 2024- in the fall, I had parked it but when I went to start it, it would not start or do anything. I called them for service. They picked the mower up and then called later to say the solenoid flew off and hit the flywheel and the solenoid and flywheel need replacing for a total of approximately. $800. I told him I'd call him back. After thoughts of why I did not hear any sounds before I parked it, nor any parts laying around it, we declined their repair. They charged me delivery ($75) and diagnostic of $180. When they brought it back, there was a damaged flywheel (warped ) and solenoid lying on front of the mower (pics). Now I dont know anything about mowers so I was thinking this is going to be expensive and time consuming, so I brought those parts inside and we have been mowing our grass with another mower and waited until we had time and the money to deal with it. This month, my son in law came up and said he would look at it. He took the cover off the back, and the FLYWHEEL was still there! He charged the battery and it started right up. They had replaced the solenoid, but it was nowhere near the flywheel. I took this up with the manger, Jennifer, and she basicly said no one lied to me and there are good christian people working there. THE SERVICE MANAGER STRAIGHT OUT LIED TO ME, CHARGED ME FOR DIAGNOSTICS AND THEY INCLUDED AN OLD BAD FLYWHEEL NOT EVEN TO THE MODEL TO MY MOWER TO MAKE IT LOOK THAT WAY! THE FLYWHEEL IS NO WHERE NEAR THE SOLENOID (I KNOW THAT NOW). I THINK THEY WERE PLANNING TO JUST SEND THE MOWER BACK TO ME AND THEY KNEW I WOULD JUST PAY FOR IT AND NEVER LOOK UNDER THE COVER. HORRIBLE CROOKED BUSIINESS!!! I HAVE ONLY USED THE MOWER FOR 3 SEASONS. I WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND ANYONE TAKE THEIR BUSINESS TO KILLIANS HARDWARE!!!! read more

I will not do business with this outfit. I had a problem with the service department not able to fix a chain saw that they charged $150 for the repair. I see that they have taken a lot of folks for their hard earned money. Think twice and go to a reputable repair shop. I was having problems with my Hydraulics for Toro stump grinder... I called Killians and spoke with the lady in the showroom (found out later she was one of the owners) She was not friendly or helpful and told me I could not speak to the service manager that there mechanics were Certified in all that Toro builds! Well that was a lie and I drove 1-hour Then come back 2 days later and picked it up! And they haven't done anything and said they couldn't get the parts,but funny enough I can buy any part but they can't! I do not recommend them at all! I would give them no stars! read more

I highly recommend Killians Hardware for all your Lawn, Garden, and Hardware needs. I purchased my first Toro Riding mower about this same time in 1998. Then today I purchased my first Toro Zero Turn Mower. Jordan Presnell was very knowledgeable and helpful. He answered on my questions and concerns. My Review of Killians Hardware 3790 Springs Road Hickory, NC 28601 I bought a Simplicity Riding mower from Killian's Hardware around 1998 a several years later the mower had the engine replaced also at Killians at the cost of over $500 The mower ran well but the new motor and its installation was kind of sloppy. I was just thankful to get the mower back. I successfully used the mower with no real problems until the end of the summer of 2018. The mower started running poorly and I decided to try and fix it myself. I replaced the carburetor, magneto and other parts. The mower ran great again for about two weeks. The motor was surging. I was frustrated so I brought it back to Killians from where I originally purchased and had it previously serviced. When I brought the mower in I expected a quick and easy fix as I had already put in new parts. I was hoping an adjustment to the carburetor and the governor being adjusted would fix my problem. That was not the case. I was told the new carburetor I bought was not right and the only one that they would put in was an OEM carburetor costing more the $ 150. That plus labor and a few odds and ends brought my tab tp $ 282.65 When I brought the mower in 3 or so weeks before It had to be put in a waiting area. As the technician drove the mower away the only thing noticeable was the surging of the engine. I saw nothing or heard nothing else unusual as the mower was driven away to a holding area. I'm pretty positive that if the wheel was wobbling then I would have seen it and asked questions about fixing it. The Problem now follows Here it is, Why I'm unhappy. When I picked my mower up the technician took my mower out of the holding area and as it was driven to my waiting location I quickly and easily noticed that the left rear wheel was turning lopsided. After examination by Scott the service manager it was determined that the Axle was bent. Nobody knew anything and nobody including the management owners would accept that the mower was damaged in their facility. The way the Axle was bent I know for sure that when I dropped the mower off for repair and the technician drove it to the waiting for repair area I would have noticed a wobbling bent Axle. I had contacted and spoke to one of the owners Sharon three times since I picked up my damaged mower. During the first conversation I was told that they have surveillance cameras and they know that my mower was never folk lifted. This is the first time in all conversations I ever heard the word fork lifting. I guess fork lifting can bend a mowers axle. I certainly do not have a fork lift and wouldn't know how to use one if I did. I had a second conversation with Sharon after I had sent her a draft of this review. Sharon had called me and nothing changed other then Sharon offering to put my mower up for sale to recoup the money I had just spent for the engine repair. I heard again how the cameras never showed my mower being fork lifted. I said good-bye and then had an idea. I called up and spoke to Sharon again, I asked that if you have video of the mowers activities while in Killian's possession can you check the video of the day the mower was dropped off and see if the wheel was wobbling then. I was advised there is no such video. I was back to square one a mower with a bent axle and unable to establish when, where or how the axle became damaged. I brought my machine to have a carburetor adjusted and came out with a $ 282.65 bill and a wheel that might break off or seize up at any time. Killians did not make any attempts to fix or reimburse me any money for my mower. Killians just offered to help me sell it to recoup my $ 282.65 repair bill. read more

My brother bought a lawn mower June 1st from Killian's. He paid $900 for a Cub cadet that was used. The mechanic that worked there implicitly told us that he went over the whole Miller and it was in great working condition. The very first time my brother use the lawn mower the deck pin fell out. I called Killian's ordered the part he put it in next time he is did it did not run. Now this is the third time he went to start it and it's not running. Although the mower was on consignment I'm very surprised that Killian's would sell a lawn mower that was in such poor working condition. We went to killen's because their name is one that is supposed to be trustworthy. After 17 years of my business, I have finally figured out why they are so short with me when I go in there. I wish I had followed my gut years ago when I saw the service I was getting. Lots of little issues, then a few mishaps with purchasing lawn mowers. I'm to blame for the last incident and after she explained something to me I understood. It's the manner you are treated. If you are a male customer your just fine, they will fall all over you. One of the owners said they have me listed in the computer as a "pain in the butt" I love it! I've never ever had the privilege of that title before. I would love to go in and taunt them a bit more but I can't do that. After all they have been in town forever and they are a respectable family business. I guess that makes them good business people! Just not my business, which they won't miss. read more

Drive wheels stopped working so I took it in. They removed a stick stuck in the belt and charged me $42. Still didn't work well so took it back. Upon arriving to pick it up they said they replaced the air filter. I questioned this and they told me they then told repairman to adjust drive and he did. Took it home and discovered it still didn't work well so I looked on line to see if I could fix it and discovered there is no tension adjustment, you must replace drive belt or transmission. Clearly they either lied to me or didn't know what they were doing. read more

Stay away from Killian's hardware. I put one star only because I couldn't go any lower. Took my mower to them to look into a problem on it. I was told the problem would be pretty expensive to fix, so I declined repair and went and picked up my mower. Went to mow today to discover that the blade and several other parts are missing. Was told by that snotty girl that "Because I declined repair, they didn't put it back together and don't have the parts anymore." So..you kept the parts that belonged to me, and then got rid of them? That's called theft. This is the worst customer service experience I've ever had. From any business. Ever. I hope the 1/2 hour of labor that you saved is worth the call you'll be getting from the Better Business Bureau. Again-STAY AWAY FROM THIS SORRY EXCUSE FOR A BUSINESS. read more

NEVER AGAIN. Took my 2005 Toro Z mower in and they told me the cam shaft was worn out and I need a new engine which would be $2,700 plus tax. I called Dave's in Morganton and told him and he said just replace cam shaft is $400. When I called Killians back and asked why not just replace cam shaft I was told the motor was worn out. It only had 410 hours!!! Picked up mower from Killians. Paid them $162 for lying to me. Took to Dave's in Morganton. Replaced cam shaft and charged me $400. Mower is running great!!! read more

Horrible service!!! First visit . I got the mower and three months later it was already not running. Probably manufacturing issue I understand so I took it in to service. After three days of having the mower they still hadn't touched it. Finally got it back over a week later. Now running in to the same issue with the mower(something with the starter) 3 months later! I cringe to have to go back there because of the warranty. Might just contact the manufacturer about this fine retailer of theirs. read more

Took a weedeater and a riding mower to get service, asked for weedeater to be fixed ( leaking gas from fuel line ) and fix the blade engage on the mower, I specifically stated.. it did not need anything else as I had just had the oil,plugs and blades changed. In about a week there was message left saying the mower was ready. when I went to pick up the mower I was told that they had given the mower a full service including oil plugs and blades (exactly what I asked them not to do ) and that the weedeater was "GONE". After 10 to 15 mins of looking for it, the guy comes back and said he found it in the dumpster, apparently they could not fix it so it was tossed for my benefit.When I asked why the mower was given a "Full" service I was told anything that comes in gets a full service like it or not. So I loaded up the mower and the weedeater and took them home , on the way I dropped the weedeater off at another lawn and garden place and within 2 days it was fixed for 20.00. By the way the total bill at Killians was nearly 150.00 and I am not to this day sure why. Needless to say I won't be back. read more

When I first heard of Kilian Hardware, the first thing that came up to my mind was an ethical and established local hardware store that may be trusted to have my equipment repair. Subsequently, I was totally mistaken. This place is a scam. I brought my equipment in for a repair. A week later, I was called to pick them up. I paid $15 for the weed eater that has not fixed and the fee was to cover the inspection. For the second item, I was charged $45 just for an oil change on the pressure washer, which I was capable of doing it myself in 10 minutes. The pressure washer has an oil leak while I was using it that's when I brought it in to have the professional (turned out to be a scammer) fix it. After paying the fee, I talked to the David and the manager and was told that they did not realize the oil leak, LOL. It sound like they ate a hotdog and did not realize it was a hotdog. I don't mind paying, but paying for the unrepaired item is what irritated me. read more
