A very nice consignment store, well laid out, up and downstairs. Lots of stuff, although all we wanted to see were chairs. Help was available and they were very helpful. We saw one chair we liked. It would fit our needs, was the acceptable color, material and size...a la my wife's seeking standards. Did we buy it? Of course not. Hickory is loaded with furniture outlets, so off we went a exploring. A couple of more locations and them the big kaboom: the Hickory Furniture Mart. Another review coming on this enormous, four level block-filling edifice containing just about any manufacturer and style of furniture one could imagine. We did not find anything that was better than the one at The Hickory Tree, so after some coffee and lunch at the Olde Hickory Station (see that review), we returned to the Hickory Tree. Since this was a consignment store, all items had a sales price tag with the prices listed over time. What I mean is that a price of $175 was scheduled to cost $150 on the first of the next month, then it would cost $135 the next month, and so on. This being the middle of the month, and not wanting to risk the desire chair being sold while we waited, we bought it...right then. They accepted credit cards. With the help of a young man we loaded this chair into our SUV and were off for home. An excellent, but exhausting furniture shopping experience that I survived. Before you blow your mind out looking for furniture all over, start here at the Hickory Tree. Prices reasonable and mark-downs abound. And nice people. read more

Walked in after a few recommendations from friends, and I immediately thought the store was beautiful but out of my budget. Decided to look and found this GORGEOUS China Cabinet for an astounding price. This beautiful monster is now in my home as an Apothecary Cabinet with the meticulous efforts of the shop delivery guys who had to haul it down my steep ass driveway and up and over my stupid foyer steps. This was a tough ass delivery but they were extremely professional. I owe them tips but I was embarrassingly low on cash that day. (Deliveries stress me due to the nature of our landscape). I've been here twice. I heard they were having a sale this weekend so I went on my day off, didn't even say hello when I walked in, which is fine I guess. Had to walk around the store for 15 minutes while they figured out the price of one of the pieces I found. Both the people working were hot messes. I bought three pieces of pottery, and the girl put it in a small bag with 0 bubble wrap, or anything to protect them. Whenever I sell pottery at my work I double wrap it with bubble wrap. It's such a cute store but I didn't really feel welcome and it was so awkward dealing with the people working. read more

This store has quite a bit "in store" for you. There are quite a few interesting pieces. They had several pieces that I was interested in, however already sold. Please go by and pickup your sold items so they can bring in more items for me to check out! Whether you are looking for a sofa, bed, dining suit or Christmas ornaments even, they may have it. First of all, this is a consignment shop and you should go into the shop with that in mind. It is going to be hit and miss, but when it is a hit, you feel like you've struck gold. I have several pieces in my historic home which I found here at a fraction of what I would have paid elsewhere. I have also sold pieces at Hickory Tree, including pieces I had previously bought. I'm in Hickory Tree at least once a month. This is the best place in the area hands down. read more

This is a furniture and decor consignment shop. I really love the way they have their prices set up. There are dates with corresponding prices on each tag. The longer the items goes without selling, the lower the price will drop. So you may see an item that today seems too high-priced, but if you can wait for the date when the price drops and no one else buys it you can save some money. This greatly increases the flow of their product and they are always getting new stuff in. Make sure you pay attention to the tag though, because the first price is not always the actual price--look at the date. I've not brought anything here for them to sell for me, but I have met the owners and they are very friendly and helpful, so I imagine they are fair with their take, and I always see people bringing in their furniture for them to sell. read more

I have been shopping at The Hickory Tree for over 5 years and they continue to "WOW" me! I never leave the store without a purchase:) I love that the inventory changes so often, which is obviously a reflection on the "know how" of the staff there. I love that the store has the knowledge to attract "ever" customer. If you are looking for antiques, mid-century modern, contemporary through traditional, they have it covered! I also love the fact that the staff greets you and they are there to assist you if needed, They do not follow you around or pressure you to buy. They are there when you need them! read more
