Killington has become nothing but a teenage frat house enabled by the lift line operators who turn a blind eye to the infractions right in front of them. The mountain is dangerous to all skiers and rider and sober skiers or family skiers should simply steer clear. Never coming back. I'm going to preface this review with my bias as a snowboarder. Killington is a skier resort and the terrain clearly indicates that. The terrain has a decent amount of bumps which are perpetuated by the tight carving of skiers. There are very few runs which are wide open and groomed which are suitable for boarders. That's not to say that it's unboardable.. but it just takes a significant toll on your body. Day 1 for me was fine since I could power through the bumps and still manage to go at my desired pace. Day 2 was terrible since they didn't groom any of the runs from the previous day and it was way too bumpy to enjoy. I think the amenities, staff, condos, etc. are all great here. No complaints there which is why I'm giving Killington a two star instead of a one. Bottom line, if you are a snowboarder, Killington is not ideal. I much prefer Windham which also happens to be 2.5 hours closer to NYC. read more

I've been here many times skiing and snowboarding. There are A LOT of trails here! Unfortunately not all the trails are always open. It's hard to snowboard/ski from one side of the mountain to another because the connecting trails are usually closed off due to not enough snow. I generally always have to walk from one side of the mountain to another if I want to try different trails on a different mountain. The trails here are long and narrow. The lines for the lifts are long. The workers always scan your ticket. But they do work pretty efficiently. There's always a lot of people here. It's probably because it's one of the more popular places in Vermont. Must make a stop at the waffle cabin before you leave! Waffle with chocolate is delicious! I like how it's next to the lodge so you can grab a waffle on the go. The waffle is a great way to end the day! read more

Good grooming after a day of rain made for a good base and a nice day of skiing. The grooming really helped set a good base for most of the runs open. The snow overnight certainly helped the conditions but it was good that the base was in good shape as well. Traversiing from Ramshead to K1 Lodge was easy to do with the runs and lifts open. read more

I had an amazing day at Killington on Saturday. I've been skiing for years, but finally took the plunge and took my first snowboard lesson. The Burton Learn to Ride program is amazing, they walk you through everything, help you figure out the right rental sizing, help you lace up your boots, etc. My instructor Brent is awesome, he is so experienced and gave me such awesome tips. The lesson had us on the magic carpet and went from 9:30 to around noon, about 2 hours outside on the snow. Lunch in the caf @ Snowshed was good, Chili in a breadbowl. Expensive, but that's kind of the norm at ski resorts. That afternoon I got back on the magic carpet and managed to link a few turns, and had a ton of fun. Brent and the other instructors who were around continued to offer me encouragement and advice. I can't wait to get back on a board! read more

I want to get something out of the way: I hate winter. I hate snow. I wasn't expecting a good time when I went to Killington with a bunch of friends. How on earth did I let myself get talked into a BOARDING trip, of all things? Well, I thought on the six-hour car ride, there's no backing out now. (Just kidding, I was asleep the entire car ride.) I took a Learn To Ride lesson with Shawn. I'm guessing it's pretty early in the season so my group lesson turned into a private one, which was great news for me! Shawn was really patient and helped a lot. I don't think he saw much improvement over the two-hour lesson but he encouraged me anyway. (If you're reading this, Shawn, I went down a green trail the next day and you would be totally impressed!) Anyway, I didn't totally hate my first-ever snowboarding experience and am actually excited to return when the conditions are better. read more

Best skiing trip yet! Highly recommended for everyone, there's something for everyone you can start off slow and practicing with help or go right into it! We went right for it. Some of us were skiing and some are snowboarding. Personally I ski, been debating trying snowboarding while here but probably going to stick to skiing. So much fun was nervous at first getting on the lifts again to go up to some of the trails but after the first ride I couldn't stop! It's so addicting and just truly such a beautiful mountain! Skied till closing having such a blast here! Such beautiful trails, The snow is amazing prefect time to ski! Can't wait to ride the snow mobiles so excited, lots of places around to rent snow mobiles also a highly recommended fun activity! Recommend checking out snow mobiles if that's something that might up your alley! Lots of amazing food spots and amazing maple syrup and maple syrup candies!!! So yummy tons of amazing tasty stuff all homemade and very natural, got some amazing raw honey as well I cannot wait to try in my acaì bowls when I'm back! Got tons of good snacks and lots of food to bring back! I also recommend checking out some of the shopping spots in area and doing some traveling and site seeing in area, such a beautiful place to visit and have a nice little laid back relaxing and fun excitement filled trip! Yea yea yea, Killington is the biggest most popular ski mountain in Vermont so any true die hard skier or boarder is suppose to hate it. Right? Well I've skied just about every mountain in Vermont and I love Killington. I love it because of its enormous size and its variety of trails. Believe it or not its size is actually comparable to mountains out west. No, it's not the same size of Vail or Breckenridge but smaller mountains do exist in the Rockies. I like the fact that I don't have to ski the same trail twice and I like that if it's crowded on one side of the mountain I can usually find another side of the mountain that isn't so crowded. I like that there's more than one base lodge and that there's several different areas for parking. Some people find the layout sort of confusing but after a few repeat visits it isn't too bad. It's important to always be mindful of which trail you're on. Because one wrong turn could accidentally lead you to some side of the mountain that you never intended. And then it might take several chairlift rides and a good hour to return to where you originally wanted to go. For example, if you get stuck on Great Eastern you could easily make a long and boring journey all the way down to Route 4. My favorite sections are Snowdon Mountain and Skye Peak. Bear Mountain is nice too but it can really wear you down. Killington Peak is interesting but it rarely doesn't have a sheet of solid ice covering it. At Killington there is always some type of nightlife happening on the mountain road, especially on the weekends. The Wobbly Barn isn't the most classy place to grab a beer but if you like to dance and do people watching it's the place to be. By the way, if you need to rent skis or a board, you might want to try out some of the local ski/board shops. It's generally a lot more enjoyable experience renting from them rather than renting at the mountain base lodge. Plus, they usually have better equipment. I've had some good luck demo'ing a few skis from Aspen East ski shop. Demo'ing is basically trying new equipment before purchasing it. Demo equipment is a step up from the regular rental equipment. read more

People really seem to love this place. I don't really get it. I've been skiing for 16 years and I think this place is average. I've skied all over the US from Vermont, to Colorado, to the west coast, and even up to Canada a few times. I find Killington overpriced and crowded with decent (at best) snow conditions. I'm going to come back and update this later in the season when I can explore more of the mountain, but, for now, my preliminary, early-season thoughts. - This place is massive. I'm pretty sure there is a trail for everyone from skier 101 all the way up to your glade-hopper, park-lover and ski racer. - The ambassadors/ski patrol are amazing. Their presence is felt on the mountain, in a reassuring way, and they are always ready to answer a question, offer a smile, or just comment on the great ski day. - The lodge is your typical, old-school, New England lodge. It is not spacious. It's a little dark. There is no fancy, nouveau cuisine (but you can get chili in a bread bowl or a salad if you're feeling healthy). There's not a lot of storage space. - If you're not a fan of certain smoking odors, you may find yourself holding your breath. Often. - Early-season conditions of 100% manmade snow are a little rough. Choppy, icy, bumpy. Even the intermediate terrain requires a higher level of skill. - With several summits and individual bases complete with lodges and parking, you can seek out either your favorite or the least crowded. This means you can park within walking (in ski boots) distance of the lift. read more

Sure, it's gigantic, but the appeal of Killington is lost on me. Caveat: I don't care about nightlife or fancy lunch options, and I don't need rentals or lessons so Killington may be fine for those things. What does matter to me is not having to plot your every move on a mountain, devoting lots of attention to grooming and snowmaking in a down season, and having enough room on a trail and in a lodge to spread out and enjoy my skiing and my lunch. I don't want to make a wrong turn and have to take a bus back to where I started. The Summit Lodge was gorgeous for lunch, but we spent half an hour hovering just so we could get a table, and the burger on the menu costs $28. A great mountain for the East Coast. Solid for skiers of all different skill levels, and a great layout for getting around the peaks. Tips: - Go gondola early, quad lifts later in the day. There are so many ski on/off condo options, I highly recommend taking that route. You can avoid the crowded areas such as parking, lunch lines, etc. There's a wide array of greens to blacks, different that Mt. Snow for instance which is mainly blues. Driving 5 hours to get to a decent mountain on the east coast is well worth it in my opinion. I actually learned to ski at Killington (and Pico) and I didn't really appreciate it until I went to Hunter last month. Killington is great for several reasons - they have a good number of trails for people of all levels and the mountain isn't congested with a bunch of newbies falling all over the place (for the most part). They also have a pretty good terrain park. The trails are usually very well groomed and they are constantly blowing snow on them when there isn't fresh powder. The runs are long and the trails are easy to get to know so it's easy to navigate if you want to go from K1 to let's say Ramshead. The only drawback is that it can get really crowded, but they have mastered things to make the lift lines move quick enough. Well done Killington! P.S. Came here for a day trip on Urban Sherpa last weekend. We are used to Stratton and I've also skiied Okemo. This mountain is huge but the organization of getting rentals is a lot to be desired. The lines are so long! There are so many trails for everyone. The varied terrain, the soft fluffy snow, and the very thorough lesson we had in the afternoon made the entire day worth the 5 hour bus ride. Our teacher (I think Linda is her name) gave me and my boyfriend a very thorough lesson on the 101 to parallel skiing. We learnt so much and hadn't realized how much we've missed out from all the other lessons we've had in the past at other resorts. This lesson and our Learn-to-ski lesson in Park City has got to be the best lessons we've had. We improved our skiing and learnt so many new things. Can't wait to head back to Killington to try out more trails - our lesson took half our day at Killington so we couldn't do too much exploring. read more

I went to Killington towards the year's end and LOVED it! I was really looking forward to the trip and it was even better than I expected. All paths were open by late-December in 2012. It was flurrying, and the slopes were so powdery. The upper half of the mountain was very open even during a holiday weekend (though the lower half was very crowded). Highlights: -Lots of trails and combinations -FREE bag check-in -Easy-access lodge and food -Great deal for college students ($399 for season pass) -Beer garden at the bottom of a slope -Buses to/from NYC via external ski shops Be ready to... -Have a map handy! -Battle some plateaus on greens that are not very snowboard-friendly -Battle the cold if you don't have a neck gator/proper gears The bus ride from/to NYC was rather grueling, so I'd like to go for a weekend trip next time I visit. I highly recommend beautiful Killington! I was hiking Pico today, but lost the trail and ended up at the bottom of Killington. My phone died and I didn't know how to get back to my car. I hike a lot and really should know better, but instead of making me feel bad for putting myself in that situation Diane at the ticket counter went above and beyond to help me figure everything out. I love Killington Mountain because the snow/skiing is always great. Most people are great skiers and aware of their environment. Food at the Lodges are great and all the various Yurts are so much fun to grab soup and a quick beer. What I don't like now is the new turnstile system to get to the slopes. The card at times do not work and we had to leave the slopes twice to get it fixed!! read more

The manager at the ticket counter is an absolute JERK! I bought a ticket on October 27 th 2018. It was early season but there was great snow. Took the gondola ride up and barely got on the slope before there power went out and all lifts were closed. You couldn't ski to the base yet so we had to wait for them to operate lifts on diesel fuel to go back down. (30 min) When I got to the base they said they were closed for the day. I asked for a refund and the manager snapped. After confronting him, he finally offered a voucher for another day. No respect for customers. read more

So I came to Killington with a few friends, 9 other people to be precise. We booked a 10 person house about 3-4 months ago and bought ticket packages as well. There was a shuttle from the place to Snowshed which was fantastic as well as the place being about a mile or so away. These are the features the Resort booking agent told us and what was on the paperwork. We were all excited, until we go there. First thing was that the place they booked for us wasn't actually a 10 person house. It was an 8 person house. This means 2 people had to sleep on the floor and were not very happy. When we called the booking agent a different person responded and said that it says we needed a house for 10 as did our paperwork but the person who booked it only booked an 8 person house. It was too late to do anything and we had to make due, with the caveat that apparently they are strict about house bookings and that if we got caught with more people in the house we could be thrown out, and we were responsible for that. We weren't very happy but what were we suppose to do cancel the trip. So we figured we would make due. In addition we found out to late that the shuttle that was promised didn't actually stop at the place, you had to walk about half a mile to the place that was a pick up, and the last stop that was completely full each time, and ended up with some people missing out on a few days. For the customer service, we actually called Killington about this, was originally directed to Booking, then redirected to the resort manager, and then I was told I need to speak to a Overseeing manager of both the resort and booking. I think the buzz word was the Supreme manager; which I'm still waiting to hear any sort of response back from. As for the Skiing, we got here right before about 14 inches of snow. The first day we got to hit some heavy powder, I tried some of their glades, it was amazing assuming you like powder, having a large wide snowboard helps too. Towards the middle of the day, around noonish, the mountain was getting scrapped cleaner then a windshield. I called it after lunch and decided I had enough good skiing for the day and would wait for the groomers the next day. After speaking to a resort person they said they had 16k in people that day. The second day we went early again and the whole mountain was covered in a perfect corduroy pattern, and it wasn't to packed. The skiing that day was the best day of the trip. Started at snowshed to ski with someone of the newer people, then moved to bear and skyeship. We hit one of their double blacks, Outer Limits, and all I have to say it hit it early. Close to open because toward the later part of the day its get more difficult to the snow that just accumulates from people going on the trail. The last day was good until noon when we got hit with some freezing rain, which is no fault of Killington's. As for my recommendation about the mountain and the conditions, get here when it opens, Ski or board your heart out and take lunch around noon, if the conditions are choppy play it by ear, but don't show up in the second half of the day. As for the Staff, minus my involvement with customer service, they were all great. The people we dealt with were super friendly, lift operators were very friendly, great people. We had to run to the tuning shop because someone had a binding that snapped on a buckle. They helped us fix it really quick for free. No complaints here. 5 stars specifically for the Snowshoe lodge. Free bag check attendant is extremely friendly and helpful! Free bag check is very convenient and nice people working it are an even bigger plus. The attendant even wrote "L" on our bags that had lunch items so we knew which ones to pick up midday when we stopped to eat. Also you can buy beer/wine in the food court and bring it back to the tables to enjoy with lunch you brought- what other ski lodge let's you do that?! read more

I just got back from a weekend with 23 friends in Killington. Obvs, it was a total blast. We had skiers and snowboarders of all levels on board. Two friends and myself opted for Burton's Learn to Ride lessons on the slope-- which, by the way, I would definitely recommend. I, a complete novice, spent about 65% of the lesson on my derriere. No joke. But the just-barely-20 year-old instructor was fun and patient and totally helpful. Nevermind the fact that I still can't figure out how to stop the damn thing. I stayed on the "Discovery Slope" all morning and then went snow-shoeing, so I can't really vouch for the other slopes. However, my more advanced friends had a blast and one couldn't stop raving about the views from the top of the mountain. And, ladies, the ski/board boys are HOT! Seems like all the good-looking guys of New England decided to get together and head on up RT 89 for the day. Nice. read more

Killington is a great ski area, one of the largest in the East. They work hard to keep the trails groomed, and customer service is relatively good. The major downfall is the confusing trail layout, with multiple base areas, trail crossings all over the place, and lots of traverses. If you're not careful, you can spend a lot of your day traversing back and forth across the mountain trying to get where you are going. Study the trail map and decide what you want to ski in advance as much as possible, and stick to your plan. The access road has lots of choices for lodging and dining, so it is a great resort for a multi-day stay. read more

My school's Learn to Ski program used Killington in the early 70s. The experience of taking my school bus up the access road to Snowshed parking lot and learning to ski is a memory I will never forget. Over the years, I've taken advantage of all the terrain the mountain offers. Just like me, it's grown up and now offers 4 season activities. For Veterans Day, the Resort offers free skiing to Veterans and their families with many of the Grand Hotel time share owners giving an overnight accommodation. As a veteran, this has been a much appreciated gesture! Last weekend, I attended a conference on the mountain. The lifts, golf course, and mountain bike trails were jamming. Some namesakes along the access road still exist, the Pickel Barrel and Charity's, but it's sad to see most of the motels and restaurants on Rt 4 outside of Mendon now closed. That stretch of highway use to have a good selection of less expensive options. Be prepared to spend some dough if you stay on the Hill. read more

Not my mountain of choice, but it can be fun (especially if I happen to come across free or greatly discounted tickets...). Let's start with the positive, shall we? Killy is a multi-peaked resort offering up miles of varied terrain and usually a good amount of natural snow for your skiing and riding pleasure. I love the gondola on cold days - you never know whom you might meet on the ride up! Also, it's not too far to travel for a day trip from Boston (and I just love the drive up 89 - so scenic!). And now, for the negative...I don't think it's a very well designed mountain. I often find myself spending half my time traversing from one peak to the next. Also, sometimes it seems like you'll be skiing along and suddenly 8 trails will merge and you're skiing next to a 1,000 other people. It can get super-crowded and the lines can grow to absurd lengths. And, as I alluded to above, I definitely would not pay full weekend price ($84 for one person?! yikes!). Bonus: Bring a wad of cash for the hidden empanada shack! read more

I liked this mountain because I am a beginner skier and there are two areas at Snowshed that cater to people at my level. If you stay on the bunny hill there is no lift ticket needed because there's no lift, it's a "magic carpet" (conveyer belt) that brings you back to the top. I went in December on a 45 degree day that ended in rain so I liked that there were no crowds. The best end to my day was a waffle from Waffle Cabin and a Bailey's hot cocoa at Long Trail. read more

Even when it's bad, it's good. I've only started going here over the past few years, and I must say, it's gotta be one of the best mountains I've been to. Of course, this comes from someone who has only ridden in the northeast, so it's no comparison to anything out west. Even with the dismal conditions for the northeastern mountains towards the beginning of the 2011/2012 season, Killington had their snow making and grooming down. Sure, not all the runs were open, but the ones that were, were very well kept with very minimal ice. If there is something negative to say, I guess it would have to be about the lodges. Not that I ever use the changing facilities at any mountain, but it would be a nice option. I wouldn't mind booting up or being able to peel a layer off in a designated changing area rather than sitting at a table in the dining hall to do so, but it's not like this is a make or break deal for me. The food is your typical lodge type food for typical lodge pricing. Stick to the basics-fries, burgers, dogs, and chicken fingers and you're good. If you want something a bit tastier, try the empanadas or the fresh made waffles on the mountain-great options! Tons of runs, tons of options, it could take days to go down all the different trails they have. Great for all skill levels of skiers and riders alike. read more

I went on 11/17/12 on a bus trip with New England Action Sports from Warwick. Perfect way to start off the ski season. They had 17 trails open that day (realistically like 7 trails if you don't count the connectors and the "upper/lower" trails), but the snow makers were blasting on as many other trails as they could. Lift lines were short, and everyone was just happy to be back on the pistes. Only K1 was open, but the lodge wasn't crowded. Will definitely return when they have more open! read more

Love this Mountain! Trails are well maintained and they have a nice variety of blue, green and black trails. During peak times they have employees stationed at the top of lifts helping skiers/boarders find open trails. One day we were directed to a trail that had a layer of fresh snow and no one on it! They do a good job of moving the lines at the lifts, even during the peak holiday season. They have a good variety of food options but as with any other mountain resort prices are high. This is the only mountain in the area where I have found employees stationed in the parking lots to help direct people. This was an especially nice touch on an extra cold day when an employee walked up to our group to inform us that the top was -1 and we should be make sure to bundle up. read more

Killington is a big resort, and definitely has some fun slopes, but it is a somewhat confusing layout- getting between base areas is not that easy, and runs will sometimes switch from green to blue to black. They don't seem to groom many runs, and they have some blues that are damn hard- icy moguls, crowds and steep slopes. They also have a lot of old non-express chairs. On the positive side, they did do a good job getting people out at the end of the day with road control, plus the concessions are pretty good. If you want good skiing, go to Stowe though. We have a house over by here and I will have a season pass next season. I have been to Killington about 15 times and finally got to the point where I know the mountain somewhat well. But no matter how many times you go there there is something else to ski. It is confusing to get around for beginners. It does get very busy on peak Saturdays mid - late winter but you just have to be smart about it. This is true at any ski resort. First off the worst time to ski is between 11-2 as it seems everyone is there at that time. Get there early for best conditions. On Sundays it is not as busy and during the week it is wonderful. There are 5 peaks at Killington and there are places you can go to get away from the crowds. Avoid the K1 gondola and Skye Peak express at peak times. Yeah I know they go to the most useful places on the mountain but you can hit them earlier and later. Expert skiers tend to then go up to the "canyon" and take canyon lift which is far out of reach of the novice hordes on the weekends. Intermediate/beginner skiers can hit up Ramshead. You may be tempted to take lifts to the summits and take Great Eastern/Northern down but they are narrower trails and filled with people. The mountain advertises 3000 ft vertical drop and technically you could ski the whole thing but nobody really does. To accomplish this you need to go to Killington summit and ski over 5 miles to the Skyeship base on US4! A lot of the terrain going to there is nearly flat. Unless you are getting a package, if you are staying over you can rent gear at any of the shops leading up to there the night before. They stay open late Friday nights. Lift tickets are steep at $89 for a weekend but if you go often the blackout pass is best for adults and if you know you are going for some time during the year, K-tickets can be purchased for $38 weekday, $58 weekend before mid October. As far as terrain parks they have something for everyone from the biggest jumps to beginner parks. The huge parks are on Bear mountain home of outer limits, and there are smaller parks on Ramshead. The lodges are spacious and warm with some decent food but it is really expensive and gets crowded around noon. I prefer to keep going through noon and go up to the summit lodge and have a drink around 2pm when it dies down. The summit lodge has a VERY nice view. There are many little places like the vista deck, empanada hut, waffle shacks that are cool to stop by. If you sit in Bear mountain lodge you can watch people fall on outer limits and sometimes not stop til the bottom! Overall the biggest place in the east and has a massive variety of food, entertainment, and skiing. They stay open until June some years and that is nuts. read more
