On a hot day in downtown Hendersonville, Kilwin's is an air conditioned refuge where you can get a treat, most specifically fudges, baked goods, and ice cream. It has that old timey ice cream parlor feel, but with beyond 2026 prices. Seriously, everything in there is just really really expensive. Delicious no doubt, but very expensive. Swallowing that fact for the moment, we stopped in and got some ice cream. I got the Kilwin's chip flavor variety, which is a vanilla and caramel swirl with a litany of tiny chocolate chips throughout. I had two scoops in a waffle bowl. Thankfully, these were not baby scoops, so even though you're paying a lot, at least you'll get a nice bowl of ice cream. If you and a friend or S.O. can agree on your flavor and toppings, it would be way more cost efficient to order a large (3 scoop) bowl and split it. Unfortunately, that's not my life. My love always wants a fruity thing, and I always want a chocolatey thing. Price not considered, the ice cream is ultra premium, very delicious and refreshing. The waffle bowl it came in was crisp and lovely, and as mentioned before, the two scoops were big scoops. The staff were young, very friendly, and helpful. I stopped into the Kilwins in Downtown Hendersonville on my recent trip, based on positive past experiences. The fudge is in front of the store and I was given a sample when I arrived. That was dry so I ordered different flavors. It turns out those were dry and not freshly made too. I'd say it was at least 3 days old if not more. I'd never been served old fudge at a Kilwins before, so I will need to be more cautious in the future before buying. I should have realized if the sample was old and dry the rest of it likely was too. I bought some prepackaged boxes too before I left. All of these items were placed in a white paper bag. It couldn't handle the weight and ripped about a block away. I'm not sure why I wasn't given an adequate bag for the weight. This was a disappointing experience and not the store I remember. I suspect the owners changed. I will not stop again. read more

Although the weather turned cold, we still see a lot of people come in the store for ice cream. Mainly the store has chocolate, fudge. We did not buy any. But their ice cream has some unique flavor. We have taste try several of them and settle for the mango peach. The ice cream actually has some cut out peach in it. Very good. I am a big fan of Kilwin's no matter where I am, and finding one in Hendersonville was a perfect end to our vacation! Hendersonville is a very quaint and charming town, so it makes sense that such a quaint and charming dessert shop is located downtown! My husband and I stopped by after dinner to grab a chocolate covered apple. The woman working was so sweet and asked us about our Thanksgiving and gave some tips of where to go to see Christmas lights. She offered to cut our apple so we could enjoy it while strolling downtown and wished us a Merry Christmas as we left. It's little things like this that I love about small towns, along with the fact that our Apple Pie apple was so tasty! The only drawback I can think of is that there isn't much seating space, but for us that was no problem as we took our apple to go and enjoyed the Christmas lights downtown. I am very particular about my fine chocolates and I expect to have a "Come to Jesus" moment each time they hit my mouth. Kilwin's was simply disappointing because it was mediocre at best. It was just okay compared to my favorite brands. The biggest mistake you can ever make is to go cheap on the ingredients because when I order a pecan turtle, I expect to have a generous serving of pecans in every bite. If I only wanted the essence of pecans, I would have ordered that! When you are charging a premium price, I expect premium ingredients. If you want to increase your profit, fire someone but don't mess with the chocolates! By the way, turtle is not spelled tuttle, (check your window sign). I ordered the English toffee and it was just okay. If it had been special, I would have returned and purchased a box for the road which obviously didn't happen. When it comes to chocolates, I love everything nuts and this store just did not satisfy my appetite. This store smells incredible because of the smell of the waffle cones that permeate the air. If it is ice cream you want, they have it here. However, am I really going to purchase my favorite butter pecan ice cream from a store that is stingy with the nuts? NO!! They also have very large caramel apples, (plain and bedazzled), for those of you who really enjoy them. My trip was about ice cream, and boy, was it a treat! With so many choices, testing was a necessity! I had a few samples, but settled on a scoop of the Hendersonville Mudslide and the Peppermint stick--with being in Hendersonville for the holidays I figured this was a perfect chocolaty mint mixture. The two flavors complimented one another perfectly. I couldn't have dreamed of something better. The ice cream is on the pricier side. Two ice cream cups came out to $11 and some change. Keep in mind, this ice cream is homemade and worth every cent you will be spending. Pro-tip, (if you live in the area), be sure to ask for a loyalty punch card. They had tasty things to try for free, my wife got some delicious chocolate and my sons got some big ice creams. Me? This Kilwin's doesn't have as much to offer as the one in Blowing Rock, but what we did get was great. I got the seasonal pumpkin pie ice cream in a (still warm) waffle cone. It basically tasted like sweet pumpkin pie filling and had nice large chunks of pie crust in it. They didn't seem to have as many flavor offerings as the other Kilwin's I have been to, and were low on fudge flavors. The staff was super friendly despite it being the end of what I'm sure was a long Saturday. There had also just been a large group of boisterous college students that came through, but the staff still maintained a cheery attitude and was super helpful. My mom got the Kilwin's mud, which I tried, and it was nice and chock full of chocolate. I'd definitely suggest this place for ice cream as a dessert.
