I love me a good international grocery store, especially that have foods I've never seen or heard of: a variety of Asian foods here along with a meat market. Area is a bit rough but the business is thriving and locals don't seem to mind that the smoke shop is around the corner. The meat market had a selection that included hens, intestines, various tongues and fish. Some of the packaged items were labeled in ways that did not identify what kind of "meat" it was so I'll call it mystery meat and not buy it. I will say that the meat pricing is much lower than the typical American markets and even lower than some other Asian markets I've been to (such as H Mart or Ranch Market). Plenty of fresh and packaged noodles, along with a variety of fresh produce. read more

3-22-2025 This one star review is for the yellow mango I purchased here on Saturday. Took home two boxes of the yellow mangoes at $15 each box. Sadly on 3-26-2025 after cutting every single one except 2 of the mangoes has brown bruising in the flesh . ( see video) I am very disappointed that I can't satisfy my craving. I called the store to speak to someone, unfortunately no answer. Will try again tomorrow . ( will update my review with the outcome... 10/21/24 Oh Em Gee! At long last, the elusive fresh young tamarind is HERE! Had this bookmarked since my friend Vuoch suggested they might carry young green tamarind here when in season. She told me Dong Mai was selling it last weekend (like yesterday!!)--went there today, nope, sold out! I rolled the dice on Kim Long & hit the Jackpot I could hardly contain my excitement when I saw the tamarind on the shelf. It was much smaller in size than what I'm used to but it's what they got. Yay! This Asian market is better in terms of cleanliness & organization, freshness of the products & the friendliness of the staff. Check out the photos I took for all the curious items I found fascinating. I wish this kind of market exists nearer to Montclair. Sigh. The cashier was very friendly & forthcoming with information, service with a smile The neighboring area does look a little sketchy with a few homeless encampments across the street. Their parking lot is gated & free but open to the public. Will return to check it out another time! read more

If you're looking for a southeast asian market, & you're in Long Beach, this is worth checking out. I had this in bookmarks for some time & was in the area. I wanted to check out this place since it's located in Cambodia Town & southeast asian (not vietnamese, basically everyone else) is harder to find. The store was pleasantly large ! I was thinking it was going to be a bodega style market. Although it definitely had it's grungy charm I can appreciate. I loved the kitchenware aisle. If you're looking for a Krok (mortar & pestle), DON'T pay $50+ for the amazon price... just make the trip to the store & that way you can see the variety of sizes & see the quality in person for yourself. Oh & they also carry sticky rice steamers. If you know, those are hard to find. Nope not even the viet markets have those. Add that to cart ! There's quite an abundance of fish, which i have never seen before. They have frozen sa'om too (barf). Also they have the black crab paste which if you're a papaya salad (thum mak hoong) you know that paste is nearly impossible to find. So get a couple, because this is the only other store (other than the Thai store in long beach) that sells it. I would return here, & I recommend this store if you're looking for southeast asian items. read more

Whenever i'm craving some fish I stop by pick out a tilapia and have them fry it up. Grab yourself a ripe mango, shallots, and fish sauce to make as a side and dinner is served. The cashier ladies are always nice and I usually grab a scratcher in the way out. read more

I believe it's a Cambodian Market. Since we are in the middle of Cambodia Town it would make sense. Great selection of fish, meat, inexpensive produce with some Asian rarities, lots of yummy Asian food, frozen items and Asian kitchen supplies. Like most small-scale Asian stores it's not as clean or as organized as it could be. I come from a retail background the way they utilize or don't utilize some of their space drives me crazy, but it works for them. Lots of great ready-to-eat items. Love this spot and would give 5 stars if they were cleaner. read more

The good: We found everything we were looking for here to make Vietnamese style egg rolls. I came from a city without a Vietnamese market so I drove all the way here to check this market out. LThey had 3 different types of bulk mangos! They also sold longan and rambutan. They let me use the restroom even though it said employees only. The bathroom was clean. The market is clean and organized. It doesn't smell too heavily of fish the way other Asian markets might. The produce was fresh. This is a medium sized market. The bad: There was a lady on the ground outside tweaking with her pants down. The side of the market looked like it was setup to sell fresh foods but nothing was being sold. The interesting: There were a lot of Cambodian customers. They had a canh chua packet ready to purchase. I've never seen this elsewhere! It has the vegetables, tomato, cut up pineapple and a pepper. read more

Kim Long Market had all the fresh ingredients I needed to cook Canh Chua with Catfish (Vietnamese Sweet and Sour Soup). I'm mainly here to praise the fishmonger who took great care in spot cleaning and slicing my catfish! It cost $16 per smaller catfish. This supermarket has all the southeast asian staples. My favorite items include the wide rice noodles to make stir fry. If you're nervous about cooking new recipes, visit the center aisles of seasoning packets and pastes to make life easier and tastier. Four stars for moldy "fresh" pineapple. I bought them canned instead. It's a smaller market so I imagine their inventory turnover is slower. Therefore, remember to inspect your produce and refrigerated items before buying. read more

STEPH JUDGEMENT: A good-sized market for most of your Southeast Asian products needs. This market is a lot bigger than KH, and consequently has a better selection of items (including housewares and such), but none of the frozen veggie mock meats I was hoping to find--still need to go to Westminster for those. However, they have a good produce section and I was able to get my Southeast Asian staples (thai bananas, thai basil, mint, cilantro). If I need standard noodles, rice paper and sauces and don't have time to make the trek to OC, I'd definitely come here. read more

Interesting place to do your grocery shopping, mostly Vietnamese food, but I can see a lot of Thai, Laos and Cambodian community shop here as well, a lot of items only got a price tags but no name or description, but I guess that was fine. They didn't even have a price for frying fish, again I think It would be free if you buy the fish here, but I saw some tips saying $5 about 10 years ago, I could be wrong now. If you ask the people will respond.... I wanted kimchi and asked yelpers if they knew any store in long beach that carried it. Steve S. to the rescue he called the store and said that they have kimchi. Its located in the heart of downtown Long Beach I drive over there and they have delicious jars of kimchi several varieties actually, unfortunately I can't have my kimchi with seafood. No worries this market is filled to capacity with so many international products it draws me in. I must admit it's a bit strong smelling in here not offensive to me but it's a bit pungent it's odd because the market is clean so I'm not sure what that strong smell is about but I'm over it. I grab a cart and get to shopping they have fascinating and extreme items for sale in this market. I browse the pots and housewares aisle everything is sturdy and of good quality I love those cute decorated bowls and so much more. I found lumpia wrappers and small shumai wrappers all at a great price. A package of butter coconut biscuits to enjoy with my coffee. Pad Thai noodles and glass noodles so thin that I'll add to my lumpia rolls the cashier was kind enough to tell me how to cook them and stressed that I don't add too much to my filling and this gal is listening. Ponzu sauce and sweet chili sauce to kick my food up a notch. A container of fried garlic I can't wait to try and crushed chili powder for the spiciness I desire in my food. There is a bit of everything in this market including extreme food that I have never seen specialty meats Including frozen frogs and huge prawns just loads of fresh and frozen seafood whole fish and more. An African American lady yelled out to the butcher to leave the head on her fish that's how I like my fish too the head is the best part minus the eyeballs. 1st time visiting as I came with someone. Wasn't sure what all I was going to see but was impressed with the abundance of items on the shelves. I continued to work my way to the back and got an eye opener with the fresh and frozen seafood. Carp, catfish, bass , shrimp and the list goes on. The parking needs improvement with some landscaping flower pots with plants at least and the trash in the parking lot too needs cleaning for sure. We love this place - despite being a lot smaller than 99 Ranch, it had everything we buy when we go there (other than alcohol, sadly), and a couple things we couldn't get at 99 Ranch, too, like powdered galangal. Had a better selection of preserved tropical fruits, too, which made me happy. And their prices on seafood were crazy good (way better than 99 Ranch). Produce section is a bit less extensive, but better organized and fresher. Oddly enough, I feel like the staff were more helpful (and spoke better English!) here than the 99 Ranch markets I've been to, too. And despite what some of these reviews said, no, the place totally doesn't smell like old fish. (It is a little dirty, but meh.) Yes, the area is a little ghetto-looking, but while I don't think I'd wander around here at night, I didn't feel at all uncomfortable walking there and back (from downtown) in the day. (I would certainly hide valuables if I had parked in the parking lot. That's just common sense anywhere public, though.) It is always a pleasure coming here - you never know exactly what you'll find for crazy cheap, but you'll always fun something nifty (I just got *crazy* deals on some quite tasty canned grass jelly drink!). With gas prices being ridiculously high I opt-out heading to Westminster to purchase herbs for my spring rolls. I searched for Vietnamese markets on yelp and Kim Long Market came up. It is around a five mile drive from home and I had nothing to lose. The market was not too difficult to find. It stands alone on a corner block that has plenty of parking space. There is both street and lot parking. The building is a large size and entrance is allowed only from the sliding doors on the right. I went straight to their fresh produce section and compared to other vietnamese markets, it was not very large. However, I was able to find my mint and basil which made my trip all the better. The herbs were fresh and inexpensive. Their produce aisle look well kept and I was pleased finding all I needed. Their meat, seafood and poultry section look well kept as well. I was contemplating if I should purchase shrimp. The shrimp they had looked beautiful but I was looking for something more inexpensive. Overall, I do not regret my visit. My options for markets broaden and I'm exploring more dishes. P.S. The cashier and bag boy (more of a man really) were friendly. The gentleman even said thank you in tagalog! Another best kept secret in Long Beach between Elm and LB Blvd....it's costing me too much money when I dine out and satisfy my Thai curry fix, so I stumbled in this super clean market the other day and Whoooeee they have all the curry pastes I could ever have...time to get cooking....and it's soooo super cheap! Love it! In addition to the affordable curry selections, they have fresh fruit-I spied some lychees, freshly baked taro cake, moon cake, affordable veggies, meats, fried tofu, furikake, taro chips, mochiko, nori, Puto Pinoy cupcake baking mix (not that kine vulgar language p*to, lol) kimchee, won ton and egg roll wrappers, coconut water, dried mango fruits, sesame oil, halo halo mix, Asian noodles, Korean bbq sauces etc...they even have Super XXL pilons (mortar and pestle kitchen gadget for all you non-Dominicans) to make some tasty mofongo!!!! Yeeeha! Too many 'You buy, we fry' fish shops closed down but here they can cook up some fried fish. It takes a while so be patient. Parking lot can be a challenge to park, gotta have lots of patience here. They accept debit cards too, so it's a plus. read more

Well yeah...for someone who is not Asian, it's like a 10 minute vacation in another land. I don't know too much about the litany of Asian products, but they are interesting to look at while I wait for my fish order. This spot is located in my hood and when I want some fresh fish to toss on a hot grill, I come here as opposed to a larger local market. They are close and the fish are still alive, swimming around in the tank and glaring at you, emotionless, somehow knowing that their flesh will be between your teeth within a few hours. It's like fishing without the long drive or the fishing rod. Just like lobster, you can point out which fish you desire to devour and they pull it out and kill it for you. Fish murder for hire. They also gut and scale it for you. There are some fish that are already dead and lying in ice, but otherwise intact. They will behead and clean them for you as well. There are about 4 to 5 fish killers behind the fish counter and though everyone around me is speaking Khmer, they are nice even though all I can do is point and shake my head, 'yes.' All I have to do is rinse well, season and throw that huge ass tilapia on the Hibatchi, grill some peppers and veggies and before I finish a chapter in a book, dinner is ready. A sure bet when you want to go fishing without leaving the neighborhood. read more

I was looking for an Asian market as a result of having a recipe that required Rice Wine (not rice vinegar) which I could not find in any of the transitional grocery store. After checking online, I was sure I would find it in an Asian market and I was really glad I did at Kim Long. One of the first things that greeted me was boiled peanut. I absolutely love boiled peanuts and I usually have to buy the green peanuts at the Farmers Market then cook them in my crock pot. The whole ordeal is quite time consuming but since it's more of a down south thing, I did what I had to...but now I won't have to anymore. The bags were pre-packed for $1.99 each which to me was a great deal. I also tried the picked green mangoes which were pre-packaged and I think for $1.99 as well. The cashier was very helpful in confirming how to prepare and cook certain items that I was not familiar with. I will definitely be back to explore more. read more

There aren't many Asian markets close by so this is the best of the ones in Long Beach. It's still pretty small and limited in the variety of Asian groceries, but they do have cheap fruit and vegetables. I would say they have more Cambodian and Thai groceries than lets say Korean, Chinese, or Japanese. So if you are making a Thai dish, they have all the fresh lemongrass stalks you need! read more

As a non Asian person, I consider it a great blessing to have the community so close by. I mean really I don't want to have to drive to Torrance just for some Lemon Basil and Kabocha Squash.. This is my favorite market, the produce is so fresh and the prices can't be beat. I have had to change my diet due to food allergies so I needed to incorporate Bone Broth-- And I can buy beef bones here for less than 1.00$ a pound. My favorite buy is the ALREADY PEELED FRESH GARLIC... Its like 2.50$ , for at least 50 cloves! The only thing I have left to try is the fresh fish in the back, because I want to begin to make fish stock-- But they are not labeled and have no idea where to start. Next time I go I'll see if I can get some assitance with the fish and I'll up date this post and let you know how it went. If anyone reads my review and has suggestions on a place to buy fresh fish though, would love to hear from you. Until then, this is my first stop for All things non-American that I need. Since my last review, I had a hankering for some homemade Thai curry and pad thai. After going to KH grocery, I ended up coming back to Kim Long due to the wider selection. I have to say they improved on the odor, in fact, a manager was wiping up the floors every chance he got. At the checkout line I also received great service (they found me a 5 pound bag of rice, which is unheard of in Asian rice bag metrics). That, and the fact that there is really no asian grocery around that has a better produce section, I have to bump my rating back up to a three. Admittedly, I think KH is still cheaper overall but Kim Long has produce and a slightly larger selection. I would get my asian condiments at KH but come here for the super long green beans. I went to Kim Long with a hankering for mock duck, and this place didn't disappoint. There it was, that old blue can that I remembered, for about $1.89. I grabbed a few cans, along with vegetarian abalone, which I've never tried. At this store, dry goods are king. The shelves at this place are packed with wonderful spices, noodles, and dried chili pods, as well as canned, pre-made curry pastes. There are an array of jars of jelly-like vegetables that are unfamiliar to the western eye, but if you like white, gelatinous vegetables then you will enjoy these as well :o) The produce seemed fresh, with the long beans and baby bok choy the highlights of this section. I was puzzled by my inability to find long grain rice, and ended up with a flour sack of sticky rice for about five bucks instead. I would have liked a bit more selection of vegetarian and tofu items in the refrigerated section, such as salted tofu. The refrigerated items in general are the weak point in the otherwise ample store. The experience was enjoyable, and the prices are ridiculous. A sweet older lady even bagged my load of vegetarian cans, laughing when she could barely lift it. There are probably many items in the store that I overlooked, such as frozen foods, so I will be back here soon to search for more. read more

I was looking to find fresh rice noodles and found the reviews for this market. Of course I had to go check it out this morning and I'm glad I did! What a great selection of fresh veggies and herbs. I didn't know what half the stuff was, granted, but many of the items are marked in English to help out. It was easy enough to grab the obvious items, baby eggplant a lovely purple tray that cost $1.62 for about 1 1/2 lbs!! Bean sprouts, baby bok choy, carrots, fresh mint, parsley and too many to even name. I also found a little stand with little freshly made treats. Since I didn't know what everything was, I opted for the sesame balls with sweet bean paste. At least I figured thats what they were and I was right! These had white bean paste and they were yummy. They also have rice and banana, or pork wrapped in banana leaves for $1.50 I spent $20 and some change and left with 3 bags! Awesome - next time I will take a friend who can help me navigate thru some of the more exotic items. But don't wait for an escort - the people are friendly and you can easily purchase plenty of no brainers all by your self. read more
