Manny, Lilly and John are friendly and helpful; they know their customers and address many of them by name. The store is clean and neat.

Shady store. Made me leave my credit card and gave me wrong change. Also hiked up the price one time. Don't go.

You can find mostly anything here and pretty much the same stuff that Tambuli offers, but for a cheaper price!

Follow your GPS and don't just start winging it at the end because if you miss the turn onto Doble Avenue, you're going back around the block. It's in Harbor City in a warehouse, which makes a lot more sense once you know what the place actually is. La Española has been importing Spanish foods for more than 40 years, and they also make their own Spanish-style charcuterie right here in California. Being tucked into a warehouse near the Port of LA somehow makes the whole thing feel like a miniature local adventure. When you first walk in you have to acclimate for a second because every inch of the place is filled with something. Oils, olives, vinegars, paprika and other seasonings, wine, cheeses, meats, paella pans, and then random specialty things like soaps and room sprays. The neroli ones smelled fantastic, btw. I went in with a list because we were heading out to the desert and had decided we were making paella. We already had a carbon steel paella pan at home basically begging for the job, so this was happening. We left with sweet and smoked paprika, Spanish chorizo, a couple different oils, sherry vinegar, and several cheeses and meats from the refrigerated section. Plus, of course, some things that were definitely not on the list. Also, if you go on Saturday, they make paella in a gigantic pan behind the building and offer several varieties to go or to eat on the patio. We happened to be there on a Saturday and somehow stayed committed to making our own, even though theirs smelled delicious. I did get the skinny though, and they recommend ordering ahead. Side note: not only did they have everything we needed, we were clearly set up for success. See image for proof of concept.

I'll definitely come back for some of their tinned fish and boquerones (it's just a tasty anchovy). The staff were really kind and helpful. I felt bad browsing for such a long time, so I bought a sandwhich. At first I thought it was a little pricey. Then I thought it was a little small. Then I took a bite, holy cow it's worth it. I ate the first half as is, then the second have i ate layer by layer to taste each type of meat and roasted pepper. They give you a little cup of delicious olives and I highly recommend dipping your bread into the leftover brine. I'm looking forward to taking my friends here.

I've had the pastrami, French dip, and meatball, all of which were great. The French rolls they use are high quality, same with the meat, and they don't skimp on portions. After tax, they come out to $17-18 if I'm not mistaken, and given the price of the chain sandwich places and the quality of ingredients they offer, I think it's great value. Staff is also very welcoming and easy to deal with. Definitely worth a try!

They have high-quality cuts of meats and a small, but nicely curated shop with delicious snacks and pantry staples. I like to come here for their picanha, priced at $19.99 a lb. Usually $20 allows me to walk out the door with two modestly sized steaks that become spectacular when they're finished on my stainless-steel pan at home. I also like their frozen meatballs in their freezer, which adds some really nice savory flavors to my spaghetti and meatballs. They have really high end cuts of meat like wagyu and Japanese A5 meats here; however, that's not really what I come looking for. Their pantry is nicely stocked with quality ingredients. It's hard to not pass up their delicious pork rinds (from 4505 or Southern Recipe) or Mutti marinaras. And if I don't feel like cooking, I can come for lunch in order to walk away with a sandwich that they can make for me. Overall, this is a small shop, that's thoughtfully stocked with some really high-quality ingredients for me to make a nice dinner at home!

If it isn't impeccably clean, clear, and free of any off flavors, the meal is over before it starts. For at least the past four years, La Perla Tapatía has never missed the mark. Every fall and winter weekend--and even on a few summer mornings--it's my destination for a bowl that consistently delivers. The broth is remarkably clean yet deeply savory, allowing the slow-cooked flavor of the tripe and spices to shine without feeling heavy or greasy. Finished with crisp white onion, fragrant cilantro, and accompanied by warm, hand-rolled corn tortillas, it's the kind of meal that reminds you why menudo has earned its place as a beloved tradition. The heart of this experience, however, is the señora behind it all. She prepares, cooks, and serves every bowl with the unmistakable touch of home cooking. Her care is evident in every bite, and if she ever leaves La Perla Tapatía, I suspect my loyalty will leave with her. She is the soul of the kitchen, and her cooking is the reason I return time and again. The setting is exactly what you would expect from a neighborhood Mexican bodega--unpretentious, welcoming, and stocked with the everyday ingredients and staples of Mexican cuisine. It's not polished or trendy, nor should it be. The authenticity of the food is what matters, and on that front, La Perla Tapatía continues to excel.
