We had a tree "back home" in Pampanga in front of our bahay kubo (tiny house with thatched roof of nipa, bamboo walls & floor). Pricey $13.99/lb My friend Vuoch recommended this store and was looking for tamarind to make authentic sinigang (sour soup) I've never encountered sour berries but they are sold here for $8.99/lb. I requested to try a piece and Lily, the kind shop manager offered a dip to try (dry chili n salt dip) My mouth is water falling as I write this, ooooh so sour!! But good! Manny, the other shop manager at the cashier is also nice. He said I just missed a chance of buying santol-- another fruit I have not encountered since 1985 or so. He said to return next week & call to save it for myself. This shop/market is small but packed with so much Asian groceries in a tiny space. Everything though is neatly arranged. Even the fruits & vegetables are fairly fresh as fresh can be considering how hard to come by these are. My lucky day! The tamarind just arrived in a box while I was perusing the shop. $8.99/lb-- still warm coz they were just freshly picked. I came back twice to buy more because my cousin will want some to dip in bagoong (salted preserved tiny shrimps). There is also freshly cooked foods for sale in plastic containers at the counter. I'm rethinking maybe I should've bought a few? There's always a next time. Mangosteen in bags also just arrived. $11.99/lb Thankfully I'm not a huge fan. Street parking & a dedicated parking lot, free. Will definitely return! I give them 5 stars for just having Camachiles & fresh tamarind AND that Lily & Manny being so nice! read more

Mom and pops market, ran by the owners themselves! Kuya (as I would call him when my mom and I would stop by almost every day) is very attentive and accomodating along with his wife who normally is at the counter and would be in charge of the Cambodian goods and beauty supplies that are usually hard to find elsewhere. They would even load up on the extra virgin olive oil, coconut water, and mussels as my mom and I would always stock up on it every month! Prices are cheaper than Tambuli across the street, an overall pleasant experience after each visit....thanks Kuya!!! Thanks Ate!!! read more

Cool little Ma n Pa neighborhood market. They have a variety of Asian foods and ingredients that the big box stores don't carry. Heck they even have things that other Asian markets don't carry (quail balut). read more

Man, I've been coming here since I was kid, during those times I would run here to buy some packs of Basketball cards, and try to shell out every penny out of my measly little pockets and those damn merchants wouldn't even slide me a few cents when I was little. But hey it's still up and running like your typical rundown asian crammed market that smells like dried squid. Do you need ingredients to make Sinigang soup and Longanisa for dinner? you can get that here! Oriental snacks from the Philippines like the Nagara peanuts you can get that here! you can even get a pack of Big League Chew shredded bubble gum here if your in the mood to get a piece of American at this market. Why is this place so great? How about you need a huge (about the size of a 5 gallon water jug) pot to make soup for an army. Yup! it's here. SO is the portable stove that operates off of butane cans to keep it warm at your tailgate party. Need some sitaw for your kare kare on Christmas Day? Need some oxtail to go with it? You bet! Have a craving for shave ice and need: an ice shaver, jackfruit, or condensed milk - you'll find it here. How about some ube ice cream to go with that halo halo? You can also buy mayo for your baked Mussels, Spam for your Masubi, and calling cards, so you can tell your parents how much you miss them now that they live in the PI again. The A & F stands for American and Filipino, though you can find a few other Asian and Latin Staples here. This Market has only ever been operated by two sets of owners the Older Filipino Gentleman, and a 1st Generation Chinese Family. I have only ever known the Chinese family that is now in it's 2nd generation of operators. They have been such an integral part of the neighborhood for over 20 years. The entire staff seems to be the same for 20 years as well. The owners speak, Chinese, English, some Tagalog and some Spanish. Many of the employees are Latino but speak Spanish, Tagalog and English. Why is this relevant? Because if you have ever brought anyone here who only fluently spoke one language, and perhaps you have no idea what ingredient they are talking about, bring them here, one of them will know what you need! They have a great array of spices too for any type of American, Italian, Mediterranean, Latin or Asian thing you need. The minus one star is only because the walkways are 2 narrow for even a handbasker sometimes. :( Please stop in and see what the modern take of the "old fashioned general store" (yup they sell some clothes too). read more

I've opened myself to you guys but, only two workers there keep asking if I still live with family across the street in front of public's eye. I regret telling you I work for different studios. A fast and accessible place to get your groceries! You can find mostly anything here and pretty much the same stuff that Tambuli offers, but for a cheaper price! I've been a customer here for many years and they always welcome me with kindness. They always restock on their items and their things are affordable. So if you are on a budget and looking for something good, make sure to check this place out! The service here is much more friendlier than that of Tambulis (in my opinion). The A & F Market people are more attentive to their customers than the other markets that I know of. read more
