We made a quick stop in today for some necessities. The place was BUSY today. Sure, it's a weekend, so it's to be expected, but it was difficult to even get through the produce section. Luckily the crowd dwindled by the time we made it to the checkout making it a snap. A couple notes if you've never been here: - This is one of the largest and most well stocked asian grocery stores in West Michigan. I'm not saying it has everything, but it has lots of things. I try to come at least twice a year for general supplies. - Prices are fantastic. They make it worth the trip, especially if you have a bit of a drive like me. From the outside it always looks dirty and run down, what I imagine is the cost of keeping costs low in a high traffic, urban shopping area. But, once you're inside, the stock is always orderly and I've never had an issue with quality. In fact, I prefer the quality most of the time and try to stop by if I'm in the area to make it more often than a biannual trip. read more

Really well stocked market with a huge variety of Asian goods. Whatever you're looking for, you will most likely find it here. Lots of frozen goods and a good seafood department. Looking forward to when they stock the fresh blue crabs. A little heads up- durian is front and center at the store's entrance so if you're wondering what is assaulting your nostrils, it's that! That's coming from someone who is ok with durian, ha! We are visiting my mother-in-law outside of Lansing. After running an errand in Grand Rapids this morning, we thought we would go to a grocery store with East Asian and Southeast Asian groceries to pick up a few things to make a thousand-layer tapioca cake for my MIL. We picked Kim Nhung as it seems to be a fair sized store based on my husband's search in the internet. Although the building housing the store looks like it has seen its days, the store is well stocked and well run. I was pleasantly surprised how well laid out the aisle signs are. Without having been to the store before, we were able to find all the ingredients we need (tapioca starch, coconut milk and brown sugar slabs) for the dessert in no time. We also picked up some rice paper to make salad rolls. read more

Compared to other Asian stores I've been to in GR, this grocery store definitely seems to be the largest one, with the most amount of variety. I have grown up with huge Asian grocery stores in the Westcoast, and this store is pretty similar to what I am familiar with. Kim Nhung Super Store is a great place to rely on when you're looking for Asian vegetables, fruits, sauces, snacks, ramen, etc. Basically almost everything! The other Asian stores I've been to in GR are good too, but are smaller and have less selections than Kim Nhung (i.e., one wouldn't have produce, and another would have some vegetables and fruit, but less options). They had vegetables, plants, and fruits fresh from the farm, like Aloe Vera, coconuts, beet roots, and Korean Daikon. Of course, they have other fruits like apples, oranges, and pears. There were also plenty of meat options as well. Basically, if you're wanting to cook an Asian dish that involves many ingredients, I would go to this one - with this store carrying a huge selection of vegetables, fruits, meats, ramen, snacks, and dried goods, I would be slightly surprised if you don't find what you're looking for! read more

I like the store that carries a lot of varieties, I have shopped in many Asian grocery stores and they are pretty organized and clean except Kim Ngung is dirty and stinks most of the time. Kim Nhung Superstore is located in the Golden Bridge Plaza on Division Street. It's one of the biggest Asian grocery stores I've been to in the area and they have a huge selection of produce, meat, frozen items, snacks, and houseware items. It's a bit out of the way for me and where I live, but it's definitely worth checking out for specialty Asian items that you might not be able to source elsewhere locally. They often have produce I rarely see other places, like Asian pears and rambutans. Their Facebook page is very useful as they regularly post new shipments of products. This summer the boba ice cream bars have been a huge hit and they often sell out. I've gotten ingredients at Kim Nhung for pad Thai and other Asian dishes that I cook at home. I will be sourcing the ingredients for authentic ramen there soon too! As others have noted, many of the products have limited English descriptions but if you have an idea of what you're looking for and can Google things, you should be okay. if you are trying to make your own homemade ramen, bao, Tteok-bokki, pho, or anything else... here you will find the ingredients. this is a large store with lots of options. in kalamazoo i frequented a store called pacific rim which had what i needed but kim nhung super store has that and much more... im glad i was able to find a store like this in grand rapids you can tell the ingredients and the meat are so much more fresh than a chain grocery store like meijer. there is an extensive ramen selection and you can buy the packs individually to try and find what you like. i was able to find rice cakes, gochugang, gochugaru, and kewpie mayo which i have needed for a while. it's always fun to check out the snacks and candy isles as well. this store is located within a little strip mall. there's a restaurant, an eyebrow threading area, a jeweler, and a deli. close by is a pho shop as well. i can usually find everything i need here! read more

As a kid, my mother and I would stop by Kim Nhung every Sunday. Now as an adult, I still frequently shop here! The staff is always so friendly and they have a big selection for snacks and drinks (which is what the majority of my grocery hauls are)! If you're looking for a larger Asian market in Grand Rapids, Kim Nhung is definitely the largest with the most variety and supply. I grew up going here with my parents for various things and each time I go, everything that I am looking for is somewhere in the store! Like many other Asian markets, there are ample amounts of aisles with a variety of things that you're looking for. However, you will not find signs with what is in each aisle and where to find each, so I'd just recommend taking your time and walking through each aisle to ensure you find everything on your list. It has most everything I am always looking for (fresh produce - though a little limited , variety of meat products, some frozen items, I mainly go for my pantry items. It's the easiest place to find everything that I need (soup concentrates, chili oil, rice noodles and rice paper, etc). Definitely recommend for anyone interested in buying Asian specific items and supporting a local family. read more

I really have no other comparison since I haven't explored much of Kentwood, but since this location has fresh produce, meats, and dry ingredients, I don't really need to go anywhere else. I'm from the Bay Area but I moved to Grand Rapids about 12yrs ago after a bounce through several major cities and college towns and I was scared that I wouldn't be able to find the Asian groceries I was used to shopping at, frankly relied upon. The. Best. Oriental. Market. In. Grand Rapids! They have great prices and it is SO big in here! This little plaza had something for everyone in it and I absolutely loved it. I am able to find something new every time I come here. They have a great variety and I can always find something new and different to try. I also really liked that to the far right they have a wall of dishes you can buy and take home for a good price so you can properly eat the food you take home! The only thing I would say is I ended up purchasing frozen spring rolls that were frost bitten and I did notice some expired items so I definitely recommend checking the expiration date! I now have a better appreciation of Kim Nhung market after checking out Asian markets in Chicago where Kim Nhung get their supplies from (look at my review of Broadway Supermarket in Chicago). I can see that this store really tries to provide a comprehensive stock of items and very good service compared to the Asian markets that I checked out in Chicago. I can say the same thing about Seoul Market for Korean and Japanese goods. Both store have very competitive prices and good service. I have concluded that there is no point shopping for Asian goods in Chicago as our stores in GR have much to offer. Oh, and parking is a big issue in the Windy City. I still say that they should update their coolers and freezers, keep their seafood fresh and not keep old stuff. Also the floor should be replaced. They should also exhaust their ventilation thru the seafood area so the odors do not spread to the store. Further, the entire building can use some renovation. The main corridors leading to the grocery and restaurants can really use a long overdue renovation. The exterior can also use a lot of improvements. If the building owner cleans this place up it can be the place to go for all your Asian gorcery and food needs. read more

I would like to note as an update to another Yelpers review on this stores page from a couple years ago they no longer sell shark fins. The prices are very affordable. Just outside is a mini food shop/cafe on a variety of Vietnamese delicacies to choose from. My mom says they have they best dessert in the area & often purchases the sticky rice. Which i found to be awesomely delicious. You can order cafe su da to go as well for only $3. This visit we ate at the Chinese restaurant located in the same building. I love this store so much. I wanted to try to cook pork belly for so long but the small town I lived in before moving to Grand Rapids had literally no where to buy it from. After I moved here, I found this store through Yelp. They not only sell pork belly, they have a massive selection of fish, meats, fruits, vegetables, spices etc. at fantastic prices. The only downside is that it can be hard to find what you are looking for at times since a lot of the packaging isn't written in English, so it's good to know what you are looking for, but it is so worth doing your research beforehand to find a plethora of things you just can't find anywhere else. read more
