The whole strip mall is interesting with specialty grocery stores serving our newest Americans. Can't afford to travel right now? Spend an afternoon around here. This store also has some unusual import supply connections. I overheard another customer asking for a specific Slavic regional brand product, not in the store, but the worker (owner?) got on the phone and started making calls in what sounded like more than two languages. I wanted to stick around to see how it played out but it became obvious I was eavesdropping. I must be losing my ethnographic research chops.

I tried some of the fermented offerings from their cold case and picked up a few sauces I read about in a cookbook I own. I wish I knew more! I think I have met two owners and they were so nice, the last time I was there I got a piece of fresh Burmese bread and it was new to me too. I love trying new foods and learning about different places and I'm so glad that I can go here to keep exploring.

They have Burmese, Nepali goods so some South Asian goods but most of the rice are Southeast Asian varieties. I don't know what language the workers were speaking but I don't think it was Hmong, Vietnamese, or Thai. There are some Cambodian goods here too. Whatever, they have some very hot peppers and lots of groceries that I'm not sure what they are but I love shopping in a place like this. Good destination while waiting for your food at the Sri Lankan restaurant across the parking lot, you know you just can't rush Sri Lankans.

In a quixotic mood I picked up a Ganesh snowglobe. What an odd oriental-occidental syncretic merger of symbolism and bad taste. I also got some Basmati rice with a very unfamiliar brand name, I was extra daring that day.
