Having read all the bad reviews I wasn't expecting much, but Irma was wonderful -- she was attentive, polite, professional, friendly, and really quick. Horrible, unkind management that won't help you at all if anything goes wrong. Don't risk it, go somewhere else! I bought a $50 money order here and the order (plus receipt) somehow fell out of my purse the same day. I immediately reported the loss to the manager here, who initially was really nice and said we could file a stop payment or forgery with the fulfilling bank in 30 days. I had written my name on the order in pen before I'd left the building, so I assumed there would be no problem. 30 days later I returned, and the manager showed me the order had been cashed by someone who was not me. He refused to file it as a forgery, saying that the grainy photocopy he had from the bank showed "no evidence of tampering" -- even though with how horrible the image was, you really couldn't tell for sure! Furthermore, there was plentiful evidence I'd bought that order! (Security cameras, employee testimony, the fact I reported it missing the same day with proof I'd bought it...) When I asked what my options were to get my money back, the manager started shouting at me about how it was "only $50". It's also clear he didn't believe I'd bought it, even though he'd made a note in his own handwriting about the whole situation the day I reported it missing. I tried to remain calm even though this man was being unnecessarily aggressive and rude towards me. When I asked for a copy of his note -- just so I could show proof of the loss to my accountant, accepting I couldn't get the money back -- it took almost 20 minutes of me begging and explaining and pleading to get him to even make a simple photocopy of his little incident report (I run a nonprofit so keeping my books perfectly in order is really important!) And when he finally did, he wrote on it in big letters that he didn't believe me and that the order showed no evidence of forgery. Suffice it to say, a currency exchange experience is not really something that should stick out to you 9 times out of 10, but the one time that something goes wrong you want to have someone kind and understanding who's willing to work with you. This is NOT that place. There are many other exchanges nearby that I intend to take my business to. Lesson learned -- don't just write your name on a money order in pen before you leave, also detach the receipt and keep that separate. And don't expect the manager here to do anything but verbally abuse you if you need his help. read more

I went to update my car registration and noticed there was a lady that was being loud and problematic and the lady helping her was very soft spoken. The manager was called and he was totally useless to resolve the problem. When it was my turn, I came up to the window with my 3 year old and since there was no social distancing as all 4 window were open, I asked this problem costumer to please put her mask over her nose. She totally flipped using obscene language and even referring my 3 year old a "b" word. None of the employees intervened or attempted to set order. Wasn't expecting much of this place but I will avoid in the future like the plague. Management has to be upgraded and all employees have to get trained to only to get their work done but how to deal with issues like this that can arise. read more

Called them to inquire about birth certificate, the guy that picked up the phone was very informative, and friendly... When I picked up the certificate from there, the lady asked for my receipt. I told her I called ahead, and someone told me I need either a receipt or DL/ state id. She just shrugged and gave me a dumb look, and repeated that she needs the receipt. I told her I don't have it, and she went ahead and gave me the certificate after I showed my ID . Would've given it 5 stars if she did it from the get go. read more

Absolutely phenomenal service! 91-year-old Ev had a caretaker who was committing multiple acts of fraud and theft, including forging illegitimate checks. The amazing staff at this currency exchange was suspicious of her behavior and called Ev to verify the checks. Ev supplied that she in fact did not write those checks, which led us to investigate further and it was discovered just how deep and pervasive this theft was. If it were not for the incredible people at this location, it's likely this theft would have gone unnoticed for even longer! We cannot thank them enough!!! read more

i walked to this place this morning. there was one person working at the counter and i immediately noticed how bad his attitude was towards the man in line before me when it was his turn. this man did not speak very much english and the man behind the counter was rolling his eyes and sighing while he was trying to explain what he wanted because he did not speak a lot of english. then it was my turn, i stepped up to the counter and signed the 44 dollar check i came to cash and inserted it and my id into the window. the man looked at my check and looked at me a black person and the first thing he said was "why did you wait so long to cash this" (which let's be real is none of his business) i responded by telling him i didn't need to. to which he responded well i'm going to have to call this in and i can't right now and stepped away from the window with my check and my id over to the copy machine and began making copies of my property. at this point i am now adding up in my head, how he treated the man before me and how he's treating me and realizing this man does not respect his customers. i then asked him why he couldn't call to which he responded "i can't, you're gonna have to wait until someone else gets here" i then asked him when that would be and he said "i don't know it took me....." at that point i said "well if you're not going to do what needs to happen for me to cash my check, why are you making copies of my property and information without my consent" at which point he came back to the window and said " i thought you'd still want me to do it" and i informed him i was not standing there waiting until god knows when just because he was making the choice not to cash my check or make whatever phone call he needed to in order to cash my check and i left. shortly after i was walking back home upset that i had gotten up and walked all the way there just to turn around empty handed because this guy thinks it's ok to treat customers so dismissively and i returned. when i arrived there was another person at the other window so i waited in line assuming that since he said he could not make whatever phone call until another person got there that now they would do so. when it was my turn this time i told her what had happened when i came in the first time. to which she said well it's got to be called in i said ok, if that's their policy i don't have any problem with that, but that he had said "i can't" when i told him that. at which point, even though he had another customer at his window he asked if i was talking about him. to which i responded "of course i'm talking about you, it wasn't the other customers who said i can't about conducting my business and by the way it wasn't that you couldn't make that phone call, it was that you chose not to" he then said he would make the call that he should have made earlier, but first he "wants to explain that he's the owner and he doesn't have to cash checks that he doesn't want to and that he needed to call in my check because he didn't trust me" i told him i didn't have time for his excuses and explanations, that i had already walked all the way there in the snow and ice and 7 degree weather to take care of business and walked all the way back after he simply said to me he can't and walked away from the window with no explanation for why he can't with my belongings in tow, so just do it without all that. at this point all the people in line behind me began saying "just cash the check" and "just do it damn whats your problem" and he refused to do so and eventually i just left because it was a waste of my time. but let's get something straight about this "owner" 1. he has a business in albany park but lets it be known to all in his business that he is annoyed by people who speak very little english. that's ridiculous. a decent percentage of his customers have to be people who speak english as a second language or not at all. he has an obligation to respect those people because they are the ones paying his bills. 2. "i had to call it in because i don't trust you" wtf is his distrust of me based in? the facts he had at the time were that i'm black my identification matches my check and i for whatever reason had not been desperate to cash a 44 dollar check? or perhaps was it based on that i'm black, i'm black, and i'm black? 3. walk into this place and look around and think critically, and you will see just what he thinks of his customers, the place is a dump and the message there is that his customers don't deserve any better. i then took my check and wen't to the pls on western and addison the place was nice and clean to the point where it smelled like pine sol or something i walked up to the counter the teller said good morning i gave her my id and my check and in less than 60 seconds i was walking out with my money in hand. this "owner" doesn't respect the community he is located in send him a message and go where you and your dollar are respect read more
