The buildings are the far end is that of the library and Highland Blvd the park is wide for many events .

One of the many parks that caught. My eye was the many buildings and the tgeater that was a veterans amphitheater was the flags and the plaques on the wall gave a whole different explanation . With the round circle of the military of the many branches the many branches as you drive around the circle. The park doesn't have any place to get food yet you have to go a couple blocks there is no EV chargers that was what I was looking for . Kimball Park is one that is a wide long valley park that you can see from the many streets are around the park for the main streets you can get to the park by the 976 bus that takes you to the park. The large housing buildings you find that are Across from the park are the senior centers have their own apartments and the lunch centers there access to the parks were of the veterans that gave their lives in the overseas combat during the war and world war 1 and 2 you see the plaques on the wall. The walk around the park there is the library and the short cut to National City Blvd the park with the many seats and the large areas for group gathers that you see during the day. Being at Kimball is one of the most humbling and great experiences the large city park to have the best family time. As a Yelp Elite Reviewer I found the park to be one of the largest for the middle of National City the older areas with a park this size is one that can hold a great amount of events.

I discovered this park when I had to have some transmission work done on my Volvo. Kimball Park was walking distance from the transmission shop. It's a beautiful well maintained park with pleanty of tables park benches trash cans water fountains and restrooms. There's a nice grassy area, a ballfield a dog park skate park several play structures and a paved walking trail, also used for bicycling and skating. I originally rated Kimball Park at 4 stars because it lacked several things I like to see in a park. Those being fishing pond, amphitheater and a splash zone. I felt that was unfair to review it on what it doesn't have. I felt it better to review it on what it does have.

Nice baseball park with three field. Outfield is very lush and ball just dies after bouncing. Field could use some leveling and some mowing. Restrooms could use some cleaning too. They have water fountains and plenty of benches with trees for shades. Parking is not bad , spread across the park

Decided to take a walk around the area while I got my oil changed for my car. I'm not really a person to sit around and wait so I decided to be active and take a stroll. I started walking down National City area and saw this park to my right and it intrigued me to take a walk through the park. Of course it was pretty much empty due to the pandemic, but non the less it was beautiful and the trees and greens were gorgeous! There was parking all around and it's right behind the County Office. I miss taking walks through parks and I'm glad I stumbled upon this one. So if you around the area and want to just take a nice walk through the park then this one is definitely one to walk through. Beautiful plant life and green grass and a nice soothing relaxation.

Very green, no trash or debri in the park, large open space to run around, have a picnic, play with a frisbee even fly a kite when it's windy. There is a small Skate Park, baseball fields and bathrooms that are individual rooms with a washing station on the outside.

Pretty decent park with lots of parking and green grass. 2 play areas and nice trees for shade. Didn't go in the bathroom because it looked pretty bad from the outside. There is a water fountain and water bottle filling station. There is also a few baseball fields.

Random walk of the day, it was the hot weather which made me get out for a walk, I don't live around this part of town, but I happened to shop at Walmart on Highland, so I stopped by and it was a fun walk, not a lot of shades but the wind was blowing constantly, it made the air cooler and nicer, also the park was very clean, I walked only 2 rounds and my Apple watch already counted alot of steps, nice

Sit back & relax here w/ a great view.

Children's play structures are filthy and have burn holes on the slides. Need more attention from the city and need to be power washed.

Such a good time!!…read more This is a newly renovated park that is perfect for families! The pirate-themed play structures are super cool, and the kids absolutely enjoyed running and climbing. There are plenty of activities to choose from, including a splash pad, sand play, a huge grassy area for running or flying kites, kayaking, and fishing. There is also plenty of shade for both kids and adults at the picnic tables, but there's also enough room to bring your own pop-up tent if you want. I did see porta-potties on-site. I am hoping they are just there temporarily for a restroom renovation, but no one in our group needed to use them, so I didn't get close enough to see if there were any signs posted. The parking lot has plenty of space for a normal day at the park. I imagine if there is a big event or multiple birthday parties going on it could get full, but it was fine for us. The park was incredibly clean, and my kids had a blast playing with the other children. No bullies or mean kid vibes at all, so shoutout to the parents! We will definitely be back and will come even more prepared with props to play next time.

3.5/5 As of this review…read more Not perfect-but still a whole vibe. Some parks charge you to play-like Balboa Park. Others feel like they're always under repair-like El Toyon Park. This one? Somewhere in the middle. Came through around 8 PM while waiting on a friend at Paradise Valley Hospital. Just needed a quick walk. There's fencing, signs of construction, and honestly... families still using the playground anyway. That tells you everything. If people are working around closures, access isn't being handled right. But here's what matters: *People are actually using the park. *Families on the playground (fence or not). *Couples walking hand in hand. *People eating dinner solo, just enjoying the night. *Friends posted up talking. *Dog walkers getting their steps in. *And a full volleyball game going-with a group that brought their own net and made it happen. That's when it clicked-this park works because the community makes it work. And there's a lot to work with: *Big, open space (perfect for events, parties, just spreading out) *Clean, paved walking paths that feel good even at night *Updated courts (just bring your own net for now) *Bright playground with slides and wood chips for safety *Plenty of picnic benches (not much shade, but still usable) *Bike racks and scattered seating throughout Spring nights, fresh air, people outside connecting-that's what a park is supposed to be. And even with the construction and limitations, this place is still delivering that. Bottom line: Construction is to be completed by May 2026 "Parks are where people build memories." [Don't delay the re-grand opening ]

I have seem more homeless leaving trash around. People with their unleashed dogs, dog poop in the grass. The "playground" in the field side is unusable they have let this park go. They only left the baby slide and swings. The bathrooms are always locked and the bathrooms at the field side are so disgusting, graffiti everywhere. It has become more of a hang out point for homeless. I really hope they fix this park!

I searched on Yelp for interesting things to do around and found this. I am into gardens, trees, plants, flowers. I love nature and value enormously the effort that many volunteers have put to create this from a landfill. It is amazing. I did a long hour meditation walk around the park, checking every label to learn about the local flora. Learned also about 4 varieties of trees you can only find in San Diego county. I encounter a group of volunteers discussing the next planting they will be working on, chat with them and kept enjoying my own company in a meditative state. It is a great place to relax, very recommended a visit for nature lovers and people who like to get off the beaten path too. The garden offers nice paths that meander through the park and one that goes around the perimeter as well. Many of the plant and tree species have identifiers at their bases. There are areas meant to attract butterflies, a pollinator garden, and a Kumeyaay Ethnobotany Garden with great information regarding ancient people that lived in the area. To my surprise, there's also an adjacent skate park. Parking is available.

When we approached the location, there was a co-Ed little league team ending their evening practice. There were about 5-7 cars of families packing up from the field and departing the lot. The parking lot can hold about 35-40 parked cars, with 2-3 handicap parking spots as well. The field is used by many weekend adult soccer players so Saturday and Sunday is normally jammed packed starting at 7am and ending about 6p. There are cars that line the streets in the neighborhood during this time. This recreational center is a very popular spot for little league games, adult soccer on weekends, the Neighborhood Festivals, birthday parties, recreation center clubs, and school break camps. The indoor space is rented to martial arts classes, birthday parties, baby showers, sports banquets, and other private events. The indoor space can hold about 40-50 people when they setup events. There is a half basketball court on the side of this recreational center but it is not marked up as a half court. It just has plain cement as a court, balls can be checked out from the staff when they are open. For Easter and other holidays they sometimes have special events that the City of SD Parks & Recreation Dept hosts, with our tax dollars, and they are great for the kids in the area. I especially like to see the "Teen Nights" as they offer at risk youth an opportunity to participate in meaningful and positive events. There is also free WiFi here. Overall, great location to take a walk on the field and nice place for little ones to play in the smaller playground.

I have a longtime friend who is an official AKBC (American Kennel Bulldog Club) Judge & she has used Penn Athletic Field twice a year to host shows.
