Alas, that I have to post this update: after a couple of weeks, my luggage organizer "mobile closet" thingy was returned -- and they failed to reattach the cinch strap, which was the whole reason I went to them! (Instead, they left the strap hanging from its other attachment point, dangling uselessly, and *closed* the hole it left when the strap tore out of the stitches.) So I wrote a nice note and shipped it back. And the postal service promptly lost the box, utterly beyond reclaiming. So I ended up paying for a new set of luggage after all, which I'd been trying to avoid in the first place. I called the shop, and the woman who answered told me she'd talk to her supervisor about a refund and call me back; she never called me back. Sigh. This family owned shoe repair shop in Broad Ripple also has a shop in Carmel. The lady that works in the store is so kind and friendly and even reminds you to come pick up your shoes. I had a pair of boots that were in pretty good shape, except the heels were falling off and when I came and picked them up, I was so impressed. I decided I needed to do a review. What's exciting about this places they not only take care of your shoes, but they have shoe strings in every color as well as wax. Now I know not everybody needs all these colors, but working in the furniture repair business and in the art world waxes in many colors is a treat. I love the family pictures going all the way back in time as well as the pictures of the employees that have been there forever as well. You can't go wrong walking into this place. It's like a step back in time where you feel treated very well and get to experience a little history while you're in there. Took a piece of expensive luggage to them for a repair to the stuck zipper. They did an excellent job and pretty quickly too. The repair was just over $60, which I consider to be very fair, especially because the bag was not usable without the repair. Kudos too to the ladies staffing the counter-- they are super friendly and helpful. Kimmel is a gem in the city. read more

I recently took in my only pair of high end boots for a new sole and heel after 6 years of continuous wear. Although it did take 4 weeks and was $80, in incredibly happy with the end result. I wasn't sure if they were going to shine the top leather, but that was included. The staff is friendly and quick. It is a great local option to make an investment piece last. read more

Kimmel Shoe Repair began a long time ago in 1942 in the basement of LS Ayers downtown. They currently have two locations: 1. Broad Ripple 2. Carmel. I went to the Broad Ripple location and discovered if you park in the back the parking is free. I took a pair of my wife's shoes to repair one of the heels that had come off last Thursday. I was was waited on by Mahogany, the customer service person. Mahogany was both knowledgeable and passionate about shoe repair. She advised I get both heels done so there wouldn't be an imbalance when walking in these shoes. The shoes were ready as promised and the price was very reasonable. I took an Italian satchel in to have the clips replaced since one had broken and the shoulder strap couldn't be used. The lady at the counter couldn't have been any nicer. She studied the broken piece and felt sure that they could repair. They did a great job and matched the aged gold pieces on the strap and the locking clasp. She said it would take about a month but it was done early and looks great! The pricing was reasonable for a great job. read more

My first appointment with Kimmel's was a success! I brought in two pairs of well loved Fryes. Both pairs were returned with solid new soles and beautiful shine. My Frye cowboy boots in particular were quite tattered so I am SO thrilled to have them in beautiful condition again (they needed a complete replacing of the original leather sole). Friendly, efficient, professional service. Easy drop off and pick up. Kimmel in Broad Ripple was able to repair a suitcase wheel as well as repair an Everki shoulder bag zipper. We did have to pay $20 for a rush order and in retrospect I'm not sure that was necessary. Otherwise, the cost was about $60. I absolutely love this place! I recently had a pair of brand new white patent leather heels I bought and only once with scuff marks on them. I have no clear how I even got the marks. But I knew I wanted this heels and did not want to get rid of them. I took my shoe to Kimmel hoping they could work their magic. The lady at the register was very kind and professional. She took a look at my heels, asked me a few questions, stated she would have her fit look at them, took my name and number telling me she was call me the next day. She called me just as she stated the next day letting me know he was able to get the marks out and how much it would cost when I came to pick up. No issues! No problems! I did not even care about the construction going on right in front of the store. This place worth taking your shoes to for repairs. I highly recommend!!!! You will thank me later. read more

Been going to Kimmel's for over 10 years. Have no problem spending a few extra $s on shoes if they can be repaired (soles, heels, etc.) and Kimmel isn't just my "go to" but they are the ONLY place I have gone to since moving to Indianapolis. Have a pair of shoes that are 20+ years old and a new sole occasionally or (more frequently) a new heel and the shoes are as good as new. Service with a cheerful smile and good conversation. I was referred to Kimmel by another shoe store that was not able to do the repairs for a pair of Adidas shoes. Through wear and tear, the loops for the shoelaces had been torn out. I was skeptical anyone was able to fix them but they did an amazing job of fixing them!!! I was very satisfied with the stitching and craftsmanship of their work. The process was quick and took a standard amount of time to repair (about 2 weeks); if you'd like a rush on an item, they will evaluate it at the time and process a rush charge - I'd say it would be nice to have if you really need it! You can park on the street in front of the store or they do have parking directly behind their building. They were very friendly upon drop off and pick up! I would recommend calling them about their hours since what is says on Google and on their website was different from the time I went and found them to be closed when it was listed to be open. I'll definitely be looking through my closet to see what I can bring in next to be fixed! read more

I was in need of a repair on a pair of shoes and planned to drop them off during my lunch break. Man, was a wrong. When I arrived there was already a gentleman waiting outside the shop. The sign on the door stated they were out to lunch until 1:15. It was 1:35 at this point. He had been waiting for a while and just called the shop, but no one answered. In the 25 min I waited for them to open the door (they never returned) there were 4 other people who came to pick up their shoes. Really not a great way to do business. When I left the gentleman who was there when I arrived was still there waiting. Considering they close at 3pm, I wonder if he ever got his shoes in time for his trip he was leaving for the next day. For the gents, it will cost you about $50 for new half soles. A small price to pay for something as personal as your favorite shoes. Also - they have difficult to find shoe polish colors. Broad Ripple location (not the Carmel one): Picked up my two pairs of shoes yesterday (that I dropped off a few days earlier) and they look great! When I dropped off my shoes, I was told that they would be ready by 3 pm on Friday. Got there at 3:40 and had to wait a few minutes for them to be completed. This was my first experience at this shop and I will be back! The cost was so much better that the Carmel location. Guess these Kimmel shops are individually owned. Stopped in to have them look at my boyrfriend's mom's purse. An umbrella was stuck in the zipper. She wanted to save the umbrella. I told her not to get her hopes up --that getting it out of the zipper would be the objective. They took it to the back and within less than five minutes they managed to get the umbrella loose without any damage that was visibly evident! Excellent customer service! read more

I'm not sure what it is about the way that I walk, but I definitely wear down the heels on my dress shoes. If it weren't for the fact that I wear a suit 4 to 5 times a week, this wouldn't be a problem as I could get away with wearing a more sensible shoe, with a rubber heal. But alas, such is not in my cards. Back to the review...If it weren't for the team at Kimmel's and their recommendation of "heel savers" I'd probably wear through the heels a lot faster than I do! This little $7.00 miracle adds an extra 3 months to each pair of shoes! For the shoes that I'm emotionally attached to, Kimmel's will replace the heel, add a saver, and buff and polish my dress shoes for only $25. Not a bad investment compared to a $100 - $150 pair of new shoes! Aside from shoes, I've also used Kimmel's to replace the handle on my briefcase, and my wife has used them a number of times to bring life back to her favorite leather boots. I found this gem of a local business after their wonderful highlighting, front cover story of the Broad Ripple Gazette. I was so inspired by their story, that I ventured off into alliteration: I had a stylish pair of Perry Ellis boots which had lost their luster and gotten some grime in places from periodic winter wear. I quickly queried Google's great mini map for the local locale. Kimmel was the only shoe shop even willing to give it a go so I speedily schleped my auto onward. The sweetly smiling and happily helpful Rhonda reasonably and exhaustively explained the purchase price of shoe service in their vintage vocational shoe shop. I seriously stood still savoring the satisfactory service of such sincere specialists and then objectively offered my honest opinion of purposeful praise with passionate prose.
