I've been going to Hakky's for years and don't let the 1-2 star reviews sway your decision to use them. Most of those reviews are from costumers with the typical "expectation versus reality" mentality. Birkenstock customers are typically the worst of the bunch. Your Birks, like ALL shoes, have a life expectancy. Don't blame Hakky for not being able to bring your sandals back from the dead. If you're asking to have the sole replaced, you're likely better off buying a new pair. If your cork is damaged, it's DEFINITELY time to buy a new pair. Yes, the father is better than the son, but the skill of the father has been learned over DECADES of experience. If you're giving them poor reviews because of this, then you're the reason shoe repair is going the way of the dodo and should be ashamed! Show some grace, it's called a learning curve, and bring a cobbler is an art form that's being lost thanks to consumerism. And yes, I'm guilty as well. read more

I rarely write reviews. Today however, I watched my husband confidently walk into work wearing shoes that I originally paid $175 for. They were completely ruined accidentally on a road trip two months ago. They were bound for the Goodwill drop off. I had them with me in the car when I took my purse into Hakky for repair. I mentioned the shoes to Nick, he asked if he could see them. After retrieving them from my car and showing them to him he said he could fix them no problem. I have to admit I was pretty skeptical, they were in very bad shape. Most dress shoes are no longer made like they once were. When I went back to pick them up a few days ago I could not believe the condition they were in ... They looked like I had just taken them brand new out of the box. Update, 11/16/19: I have continued to take my shoes to Hakky and have never been disappointed with their work or their customer service. They are a family-run business, which is important to me as well. Today I dropped off a pair of heels for the wonky-leg treatment. He is going to bring down one of the heels a bit and waterproof them while he has them. They have probably worked on 10-12 pairs of shoes for me by now. I still recommend these guys 100%! I have used this shoe repair shop three or four times now. My legs are not the same length, so normally I put a lift in one shoe to even things out. But that doesn't work for sandals. I finally decided to bring a couple pairs of sandals to the guy here to see what he could do. He put a piece of hard-ish foam material in the heel of the shoe on my shorter leg and tapered it toward the toe so it would be comfortable. Now I can wear sandals! Today I dropped off another pair of sandals and a pair of boots. The heels on the boots are too high, but I love them. He is going to bring the height of the heels down and adjust for my crazy leg so I can wear them without killing myself. He is also going to waterproof them for no charge and he gave me a bottle of polish for them at no charge as well (they are a funky color and I needed a neutral polish). I've had several pairs of boots repaired here over the years. I don't live in Greenwood, so I appreciate the fact that they're in the mall. I like being able to get a little shopping in and return to freshly spiffed up shoes. Usually only one guy is working, so keep in mind if anyone comes in, progress may be delayed on your shoes. Nature of having a small business. I visited today and saw it firsthand: several pick ups, drop offs, and a couple buying a pair of shoes. Funny thing is, it was midday on a weekday, so you'd think it would be slower. This is a popular place! After speaking with the owner as he finished up my boots, I learned that they've been in business for 31 years. That's amazing! I don't think I'd survive working in a mall that long! They're always friendly and greet everyone that comes through the door. I'll continue to come into Hakky's as long as they're here for all my shoe repair needs. Ok, the guy behind the counter has been repairing shoes for twenty years and he learned from his father who did it for 50 years. You won't find much competition in the shoe repair business and why would you want to look anywhere else? Honest, up-front pricing and professional repairs should keep this place successful forever. In this disposable society, many people have forgotten that shoe repair is an option over buying new shoes. For my Mom, she has some comfortable shoes with a 1/2" build up on her right foot. She just wanted new tread on the build up because it had worn smooth. Going way beyond what she expected he replaced the tread, cleaned and polished the shoes making them look like brand new shoes for half the price of a new pair. read more

I came here to get my Birkenstocks resoled, have a buckle fixed, and the cork fixed as well. I was told that the soles would be Birkenstock brand, but they were generic when I picked them up. They also forgot to fix the buckle and the cork. I brought them back, and he shoddily fixed the buckle, but said he couldn't repair the cork and explained how extensive of a process it would be. I can understand that, but please don't make promises you can't keep. So I'm still not sure if the price I paid included a cork repair that I didn't get. This place was recommended by someone I met in passing recently. He advised the father is better than the son, so keep that in mind. My experience was with the son unfortunately When I walked in, with the machinery running, he asks me what he could do for me. I answer but of course he can't hear me. Was this his first day and he didn't realize he couldnt hear over the noise? After he shuts things down, I again start to tell him my foot troubles, then I ask if he's the father or son, recalling the advice I'd received. I get a smart ass answer of "I'm a father and a son." I had to push further to get an answer. I tell him a little more, he cuts me off, and points out some orthotics. I explain I've tried them and ask if he can modify my shoes and I start to explain what I think I need. Again with cutting me off! OK son. You're apparently not as invested in the biz as dad is and it will likely die when he does if this is how you normally treat your customers. What a shame read more

I took two pairs of heels here to have the heel tip replaced. The guy behind the counter asked if Tuesday was ok for pick up. I said no I need them today. He said ok they can be ready at 5pm. I said I need them before like within the next hour if possible he said ok 3pm. It was 11am. I told him that didn't work either. I'm not sure if he thought he was being funny because he knew the guy at the other end of the counter and he thought his service was going to get some laughter as it was obvious I was frustrated. I explained that I needed them for a family photo and he said 3pm. I said nevermind I'll pick them up Tuesday. He winked at his buddy at the end of the counter. I'm not sure of another shoe repair place on the south side....if I did i'd go here. I've never had service like this here before and frankly I'm disappointed at the so called comedian behind the counter. Any other time I've had shoes repaired here I'm in and out in under 30 minutes with my shoes. So i don't see why Saturday to Tuesday...not so instant. read more

Took 2 pairs of Magnanni shoes, one black and one two-tone chestnut to tan. The chestnut shoes had pretty good scuffs on the toes and marks on heals. Dominic had them looking like new within a few hours. Great guy and shop and strives to do it the right way. VERY shocked to read reviews that say otherwise. He and his son Nic (who started with him in the shop at 12!) are southsiders that want to be part of the community. Great Craftsmen and a great shop! I have taken my shoes here for years, and every time I drop them off thinking there is no way they can fix these, they come back looking better than brand new! Do note that most shoes take a week to fix from the time you drop them off to the time you pick them up. read more

My fiancé took a pair of shoes to Hakky's Instant Shoe repair in the Greenwood Mall. It was a pair of brand new Christian Louboutin's for our wedding. She was looking to get a protective gripper coating to cover the outsole of the shoe (the ball of the foot). My fiancé had many clients recommend this place as they had the protective gripper pad put on their Christian Louboutin shoes and loved them. When we dropped off the shoes, they were very pleasant and seemed very knowledgeable about the process. They mentioned they could not match the exact red as the rest of the bottom of the shoe but would be within a shade or two of the red. They also showed us how far the gripper pad would go beyond the outsole of the shoe which was roughly a quarter of an inch up the shank. We understood the designers signature on the shank would clearly be visible from our conversations. When I picked up the shoes the craftsmanship and care of the shoe was absolutely terrible. It was so bad that we even took the shoes to another cobbler to get their opinion and they were shocked that the owner of the shop would even allow a pair of shoes out the door like that...not to mention the fact that these are a very expensive pair of Christian Louboutin. As you can tell from the images I attached, the shoe was poorly handled. The gripper pad they added was not even close to a shade or two from matching the other red color that was going up the rest of the shank. I know they did something with red paint on the shoe because there is red paint splotches in the inside of the shoe. You can see the inconsistent black edge they painted around the outsole of the shoe - keep in mind, there was never a mention of black paint being used on a red sole when we dropped the shoes off. Not to mention (which is hard to see in images), the black paint they got on the side of the shoe. There were also scuffs on the side of the shoe that was not there when we dropped them off. The gripper covering went well beyond the point that was mentioned during our initial visit to the point it was covering part of the designer's signature. I called the store the day after I picked them up and the guy was very short and told me to bring them in that day. I repeated twice on the phone that I was not going to have a chance to go that day yet he was short and quick to get off the phone. I assume he had customers in the store. I finally had a chance to go back today with my fiancé and the owner of the shoe store who worked on the shoe was there. He did absolutely nothing but shrug his shoulders and say he would clean them up. He did not say sorry for the poor craftsmanship or offer a replacement/refund. Nothing. After we refused to let him touch the shoes again because he did not care about his craft initially and ruined her shoes, he had the audacity to call us rude while he had customers in his store. You are the individual who took poor care of a very expensive pair of WEDDING shoes and clearly by your craftsmanship, you don't care about your customers and their needs being that we were customers not even three days prior. These are a once in a lifetime, special occasion shoe, being the cobbler you claim to be you should recognize the craft behind the creation and purchase of a shoe of such caliber. When we initially went to the store we asked if they had photos of their work on the Christian Louboutin shoes that come into their store. They said they did not, so to protect anyone who chooses to have their Louboutin's or any designer shoe for that matter "protected" by the Hakky Instant Shoe Repair store in Greenwood mall, the attached pictures are an example of why they shouldn't and the lack of pride they have in their craft. read more

I am an artist who makes upscale purses from genuine leather cowboy boots. The most difficult part of that process is not the cutting of the boot, or turning it inside out to be stitched, but finding a cobbler who is willing to take the time to do it precisely as I wished. The boots tend to twist a bit when inside out and the bottom seams must be just right. I have spoken TO EVERY COBBLER IN THE CITY in an attempt to find not only who could perform this service, but one who would take the time to do it the way it should be done. Either Dad or son is there to help and even suggest improvements or better yet, just perform those improvements as a sign of workmanship. I am always greeted courteously no matter how busy they are and given individual attention. I see others pick up their shoes while I am there and they are always pleased. I took a well worn pair of leather waterproof boots to Nick at Hakky Shoe Repair in Greenwood Mall. I asked that stitching be repaired and reinforced, that they be waterproofed and if the lining that had worn through be repaired if possible. Nick said that he could do all of that but that they may not be 100% waterproof but he said they would be waterproof enough to withstand dewy grass. I said ok and paid about $50. The stitching seems to be fine. If the shoes were waterproofed at all they did it without unlacing the boots and it was entirely ineffective. My first walk in dewy grass left me with thoroughly wet boots and feet. The large leather pieces stitched and glued inside the boots as the lining repair both had to be removed. The left boot was now to short and Dominic, Nick's father, ripped out the repair before I left the store. The right rubbed my ankle bone when I tried to wear them the first time and I removed the repair before leaving the house. I phoned and explained all of this to Dominic stating that I was unhappy that 2/3 of the $50 repair was not at all what was promised. He said he could do nothing but he'd ask Nick. Dominic called and offered a $10 refund. I told him I felt it wasn't enough but it was better then nothing. I live 30 min from Hakky so I ultimately asked in a letter that they mail me what they felt was an appropriate refund . It's been a month and I have yet to hear from Hakky. I purchased a pair of boots at the same time. I told Dominic that I wore a men's 8 wide perhaps even an extra wide. It's entirely my own fault that I didn't realize I'd been sold a 9 medium until I'd worn them outdoors. I went to sell them on eBay and discovered that the boots retailed for $80-$90 new. I'd paid $150. I feel that disparity is an unreasonable mark up. I regret not googling the price. Most of this exchange is my own fault. Nonetheless I feel that the ridiculous mark up and being given the wrong size in the first place speaks to the business practices of Hakky. read more
