VERY KIND!! The Type of Care for a First Time "Client" was amazing! The Lady who took my blood was Kind, Sweet, + the time she spent on me was Efficient!! I live a colorful, rich life now, and what people may deem to be eccentric or weird is my normal. As I look back on my life, it has been everything BUT "normal" and so I've come to embrace how I date and live life without shame. But living the life I live requires responsibility and accountability, and getting tested is something that I take seriously, especially when considering new partners. My heart was humbled by these people today. I know they are busy. I know they provide services that the community desperately needs and I take none of this lightly. It was time for a routine exam again since I've been sexually active after moving from California to Texas, and my new partner who is polyamorous encouraged me to try getting tested at this place. Pushing nerves and the unknown aside, I faced fear head on and went in for routine testing...and I found myself well taken care of by gentle souls who know what it's like to sometimes face the fear of responsibility, the fear of the unknown...and they helped turn that fear into confidence and empowerment by the end. If you're thinking about coming to this clinic, please read this. I went in very concerned after learning I had been exposed to someone who is HIV positive. I'm not on PrEP, so I knew I was within the critical 72-hour window to start PEP (post-exposure prophylaxis). At first they didn't want to see me because they said they were understaffed. After I insisted and explained the urgency, they finally agreed to squeeze me in. But after making me wait, they told me again that they were understaffed and that the doctor who could prescribe PEP was unavailable. They also said none of their other locations could help either. What was frustrating was that the front desk staff seemed more focused on watching and discussing music videos on the TV than helping patients. The person who spoke with me told me, "There's nothing we can do for you right now." The only suggestion they gave was to go to the ER. I explained that I haven't worked in almost three months because of another health diagnosis and that an ER visit would be extremely expensive, but they repeated that there was nothing they could do. Considering how time-sensitive PEP treatment is, this experience felt very dismissive and discouraging. read more

I've been coming here for a few years and always been treated well. It feels like a safe and welcoming space regardless of your identity. I don't agree with the other review that says they pus people towards GAHC unnecessarily. I discussed it with them and due to uncertainty they recommended that I didn't move forward at that time. I understand being upset at quality for something, but when something FREE that is this good is available, you take some things not being perfect into consideration! Not everyone can afford guaranteed quality or consistency. I've never left this place feeling I have received poor care. An outreach center and clinic that is doing some amazing work for the LGBTQIA+ community. Since I recently moved from New Orleans, I hadn't had the chance to find a primary care physician. I was told about Kind Clinic since I need to not only continue knowing my status, but needed to keep up with my prescription to remain HIV negative. They accept walk-ins on a first come first serve basis, but they have an adjacent clinic that works on appointments. I've been here twice and both occurrences were not only accommodating but a great team of staff. This clinic is not only well runned but kept up very well. Everyone breaks down everything super easy. They have HIV rapid testing that gives you results in three minutes. read more

Std check ups for free? I mean even if I had to wait for hours honestly this place offering that for free is just priceless. A normal place would charge you an arm or a leg just to find out your status, which is one thing wrong with the health care system today in America. Thank god a place like the kind clinic exists here in Austin, and I'm not going to lie everybody that worked here was VERY professional and very well educated, or at least that's what it seemed like to me. They also offer you free condoms here as well :), icing on the cake. Friendly advice though you need to come here right when they open or you'll be most likely turned away. The staff here is very inattentive to their patients and will name their trans clients on several occasions. Also have had bad experiences with the nurse practitioners that draw blood and prick people multiple times. read more

I found it highly inappropriate and uncomfortable that during my medical appointment the person was training someone over zoom. And because he was performing for this person watching on zoom I don't think I got good advice or care. I had exposure so I needed to be tested and he sent me home saying to come back Tuesday to stand in line. FOUR days later because of an office conflict the next day and a holiday on Monday. So instead of testing me right then which he could have done. He sent me home. How is this good advice? His excuses all defaulted to we're a free service. Okay, I'd be happy to pay for a service that prioritizes my health a bit better. Also, I'd like to add that I was within the appropriate time frame to be tested. It was not premature. Many government sponsored services at little to no cost including certain STI testing, vaccinations, treatments, and medications. Working class people, the working poor, and those without health insurance deserve quality care, especially when you are serving queer and trans Texans, an already marginalized community. Employees should not excuse themselves from not being a high quality healthcare provider because their services are free. On two different occasions I was poked & prodded multiple times because employees could not hit a vein. This last time, an employee came to help and when I addressed this happening to me the second time, they excused their inadequacy because "what do you expect, it's a free service." This is a dangerous statement for those that can't access other services. It is especially dangerous for the communities they serve that already face mistreatment in all areas of their life. I hope they really think about providing adequate training to their employees so we do not feel like guinea pigs to those learning how to be health care providers. Since I do have the means I would rather pay for quality (as the employee suggested) but I am left thinking about all the clients that do not have the means to have access to quality care. I have been going to kind for about 4 years now and I have never been able to see the same doctor more than once. I never have an advocate available and if they are, they never have answers to my question. They are great for hiv/std preventatives, but another huge part of their service is gender care and they have no idea what they are doing. All the doctors are trans friendly, but not trans competent. read more

For the most part everyone had been very nice, however, there is a constant battle between what I'm told from Kind and what I'm told from CVS which is apparently where I am required to receive the meds due to my insurance. This results in several calls back and forth on my part and delays. Also, having an advocate would be great if they actually helped or had answers for your questions. I have decided to simply use another clinic. For people without insurance this is definitely a good resource. read more

Made an appointment almost 2 months ago, called me the day of appointment to say I had to schedule a different kind of appointment and they didn't notice until today. Told me the soonest available was 3 months from now and there was nothing they could do because "these things slip through the cracks sometimes". Glad I'm going somewhere else since they apparent can't be trusted to not make basic mistakes and come up with any solutions for them. I really really really appreciate that the kind clinic exists. They are doing important work and helping a lot of people. There are so many good things about them. Almost everyone who works there is super friendly and kind and compassionate. They never invalidate me or make me feel like I don't have a say in my own medical care. That being said, every *single* prescription I've had sent in by them in the 6 months I've been going there has been either not sent in for days/weeks afterwards, or the incorrect medication is sent in. Every single time. My roommate has had the same experience! Without fail. And I've been really understanding about it because again... it's a free service and they're doing important things. But this time it caused me to run out of PReP unexpectedly because I thought there was more waiting for me at the pharmacy. Because I reminded them at my last appointment that they only gave me one month's worth with no refills and they told me it was a mistake and they took care of it then. And there is now no way to get an actual person on the phone same day. You can only leave a message and they'll call you back in a few days. Luckily the community here is awesome and I was able to find someone to give me a few of their doses of PReP because otherwise this could have been VERY BAD. Regardless it had me super stressed out. There really needs to be a way to directly contact someone for urgent matters like this. If you provide PReP services and people come to rely on them, leaving people without the medication that prevents them from contracting HIV and giving them no way to reach out and get the mistake corrected is really messed up. read more

You will have a very difficult time getting tested here unless you show up very early in the morning. I went in at 1:30 on a Tuesday and they were already turning away patients. The website and phone line is confusing as it says you are able to book appointments online, but as the rude receptionist made it know, you can't. While I'm on the topic, any question I asked I could not complete because they would interrupt me. Customer service in the medical field is completely different than retail, maybe the clinic managers need to give them more training on better bedside manner. read more

This place is amazing! The staff is all so friendly. It was my first time coming here because my insurance no longer covers routine STI testing at annual women's wellness visits (side note: that's insane) and my OBGYN recommended Kind to me. The front desk staff was so helpful & they asked me if I had been there before and when I said no they explained every step to me so I knew what was needed and what to expect. The music and artwork in the lobby made me feel like I was in a safe, welcoming space. The wait was pretty short for walk in testing as well! I wish I could remember the person who helped me with my consult and testing because they were truly incredible and honestly they need to be recognized for their amazing work - their name starts with Q and they use they/them pronouns. Q made me feel so secure during this entire visit. They explained everything so accurately to me and answered all of my questions in detail. No question was a stupid question and if Q did not know the answer they would send a message to technical staff and that staff answered back super quickly. Q did not judge me at all and they were so kind and understanding with me and my health history. I hope I get to see them in the future! This clinic really hit the nail on the head with this one because the one word to describe the staff and company is truly: KIND. I will be coming back for routine testing.
