Our family has had two very different experiences at Kinderswimmer. My son was enrolled here for several years. Because the classes are only 30 minutes and shared among four children, it took some time (multiple years) for him to become a fully independent swimmer, but he did eventually get there. His instructors, especially Ms. Jada, were core to his success and we loved her. Unfortunately, the quality declined significantly by the time my daughter started. The facility seems to be facing high staff turnover, resulting in frequent class cancellations. When substitute teachers were brought in, they often appeared undertrained and disengaged. The turning point for us was a severe SAFETY INCIDENT that led to our immediate withdrawal. During a lesson, a substitute instructor remained in the shallow end with her back turned while my daughter was noticeably struggling in the deep end. This was not the first time I had witnessed an instructor positioning themselves poorly or failing to scan the pool. Despite another parent also shouting to get the instructor's attention, she did not respond. I ULTIMATELY HAD TO JUMP INTO THE POOL FULLY CLOTHED TO RESCUE MY DAUGHTER. Following the incident, the instructor never acknowledged what happened or checked on my daughter's well-being. Management did not contact me until I emailed them to withdraw and request a full refund. To their credit, the owners processed the refund without question and attempted to call me to discuss the matter. They also offered me a month of free lessons and tried to assure me the issue had been addressed with the teacher. However, there is no acceptable explanation for an instructor completely ignoring swimmers or standing on the wrong side of the pool. While I appreciate management's immediate response, safety and trust cannot be bought back with a credit. read more

I did a Google search of places that had swimming lessons and this place popped up. It looked like it had good reviews as well. I signed up. It was a little confusing because when I signed up, my credit card wasnt charged. For 2 kids, the initial price was $250, I believe. After a couple of days, I got charged and I logged in and it showed the days we were enrolled. The business looks like a house swimming pool. If the class is full it's 4 kids max for one teacher. I think each kid has about 4-6interactions for a half hour. One trip to the other side of the pool is considered an interaction in my observation. I could be wrong. Once the kids get to the other side, they are instructed to wait. During the waiting period, they need to put both hands on the wall. There's no play time -just waiting and instructing when you have one-on-one time. Once you're time is up, you are expected to leave the pool, I feel like. I suggest getting all ready to go before your scheduled time cuz the 1/2 hr goes by fast. You want to get the most out of the time you have. I like that the pool is heated and it's a good size. Having this place right in your backyard is great! So all in all I was sold on the location. The pool itself is heated which makes it an enjoyable for your child to want to learn instead of focusing on how cold and uncomfortable they are. DO NOT TRUST THE "KINDERSWIM IS SO GREAT" REVIEWS NOR THE WEBSITE; here's why. Our first session, we were running late. When we walked in, the swim instructor didn't look up nor say hi. We had to put the floating foam bricks on our kids. We had no idea how they were supposed to go, and after a few min of struggling, the instructor reluctantly said we did it wrong but STILL did not proceed to help. If you don't know how to hook them correctly, it could cost your child their life OR ruin your clothes from jumping in to save them. In a 30 min session, the instructor worked with my child for a total of 5 min. My child will never learn how to swim at this rate. Moreover, she has her back turned to BABIES clear across the pool while she works with other kids. Again, it makes the difference between your kid's life or your ruined clothing. Furthermore, rule of thumb; if you don't hold on to your child or help them in and out of the pool, THEY WILL DROWN because the instructor is literally ZERO HELP! Shame on kinderswim for running a hazardous swim school with non-caring instructors who clearly are only there for a check and owners who are trying to pay their mortgage with no regard for anything else. My daughter has been consistently swimming with KinderSwimmer since she was 2.5 yo and she is now 8 yo. We love it there! The heated pool is a definite plus with our PNW weather, especially when we have cool or cold evening classes. The class sizes are small (usually 3-5 students) enough that every swimmer gets valuable and constructive feedback. My daughter has enjoyed her weekly lessons with all of her teachers! They have built her confidence in the water so much so that I don't worry about her when she is swimming (with a lifeguard present). She has progressed to learning all the swim strokes and is working each week to improve on them. She can tread water for over 5 minutes and is like a fish underwater. The instructors give good one-on-one feedback and always put safety first. Summer is one of our favorites! Always positive and smiling but firm when she needs to be. My 2 year-old toddler screamed bloody murder for most of class. There were no songs, no toys and no attempt to make the class enjoyable. The teacher essentially just made her do various lessons while holding her. She told her to "run" to get to mommy. She wasn't animated or fun. My child was scared and didn't understand. We left after 10 minutes. The teacher told me she's probably just tired and teething! Haha. What a joke. I'm giving her the benefit of the doubt that she'd be good with older kids. All the instructors are amazing! We most recently had Miss Maggie and she was INCREDIBLE. My 4 year old's first swim lesson (and first time ever in a pool!) was yesterday, and I am still beaming. He did so great. I love their floaty system. She did dunk him at the beginning (she warned him ahead of time, they call it 'eyes in,' all the other kids did it every turn and were clearly used to it and unperturbed by it) and he got upset but he got over it and even jumped in from the side at the end of the lesson! He went under again from the jump but was much less upset since he had already done it before. The instructor Caitlyn was firm and patient but in a very kind way. I am a very strong swimmer (played varsity water polo in high school) and I can tell he will learn to swim quickly here. He and I are both so excited for his next lesson next week! They could improve by learning how to actually teach kids to swim especially young ones who have never actually swam, you know like they are supposed to. You don't just try to force a 3 year old who is telling you he's scared to go all the way in the water especially after you have been informed multiple times he has never swam before. You get them used to the water, then kicking on the edge (not in the deep end btw), then go from there. At least according to a different swim instructor I discussed this behavior with, as well as the way other schools break down their lesson levels that I looked up after this experience. You don't throw a child's comfort toy after you already freaked him out multiple times halfway across the whole pool to try and make him get in the water. And you sure as heck don't literally roll your eyes at a 3 year old and say well if he's not gonna do it I'm gonna go pay attention to my other 2 students instead. Nor do you get annoyed and just drop him off at his parent and swim away without a word. You don't behave like a dang toddler to a toddler that's pathetic and honestly it's a good thing my way more laid back husband was the one who took my toddler to his 1st lesson. I would not have been so nice as to give chance after chance and not blow up about the behavior and attitude and lack of education on how to actually teach a child to swim. Even he was seething by the end of the lesson and he is not one to stoop that low. Please train your teachers and keep an eye on them. Also make sure your help staff knows where stuff is since I couldn't even have my husband put in a cancel notice because according to your helper guy "you have to call to cancel" even though your website states multiple times you "must put in a 2 week written notice to cancel, a cancel sheet can be obtained at the school or you can email __" read more

The instructors have been great. The owner on the other hand doesn't have any accounting or customer service skills. My wife signed up with a email attached credit card. For whatever reason they used another email. So we never got charged. They waited three months to say something. My wife told them we would pay them in full the following week. Than the owner started being very rude to my wife. We were going to continue lessons after the balance was paid until she started talking crazy. We will take our business some where else. I have another son who needs to learn how to swim as well. You just lost out on that money as well because you don't know how to properly talk to people. read more

This place is a hidden gem. Though it may seem quaint at first, the instructors are really what make it so phenomenal. Maggie, Sydney, Ana (to name a few) are so great with the kids. They take their time and have a pretty good understanding of their capabilities but also limitations. As far as amenities go: heated pool, changing rooms, a shower and a bathroom. They also have toys and a seating area for parents. I really like this place, and for the price, you really do get an amazing experience. Major safety issues! Do not take your kids here. At our first swim lesson the instructor took our two year old to the other side of the pool and set him on the side and left him there. We had assumed a parent would be in the water with my son so my husband jumped in and swam over to be with him but the instructor did not voice anything she was planning to just leave him there. We watched her do this with another child as well. You should never turn your back to children in the water! I am not a lifeguard or have ever taught and even I know that basic rule! The life guard was also on their phone in the side office paying zero attention to the pool. Another huge safety violation! I called and talked to the owner after our first visit. She assured us that was not protocol and she would address these issues with her staff. We decided to give a 2nd chance and asked for a new instructor. We showed up to the class to the same instructor even though she assured me she had placed me in a new class with a different instructor. We were obviously frustrated but continued with the class as at this point my son knew we were swimming and would have been confusing to him had we walked out. The instructor had obviously not been talked to as she did the same thing again with my son and another student in the class of similar age to my son. The life guard was a different one than before but also was sitting at the desk in the side room on their phone not paying attention to the pool. This place is not following water safety guidelines and even after sharing my concerns they made no changes and we saw the same thing happen all over again. We requested a refund and they did refund us. But I am scared for the safety of any children that attended swim lessons here as they obviously did not take my concerns seriously and are not following pool safety guidelines. I recommend you do not sign your child up for swim lessons here. read more

I just left my child's first and last lesson at Kinder Swimmer. I'd like to say I am not an over cautious parent. I believe that kids will get some bruises and scars and that's part of life. I also am a trained life guard. It's been about 15 years since I've worked as a life guard, but I still recall my training. I'm only speaking about the Kinder Swimmer facility in the Renton Highlands, as that is where my child took her class. Upon entering it looks like a house that had a pool and the owners decided, "hey, let's teach kids to swim." There is no safety measure between the door and the pool. You enter the swim area through sliding glass doors, and the pool is three feet away. Nothing to prevent an over excited kid from jumping right in. This wouldn't normally be a problem, except for the fact that there is no life guard on duty. Only the one person in the pool teaching the kids to swim. In the city of Seattle there is always at least one life guard who is not teaching, keeping an eye on all the kids. It went down hill from there. Their teaching technique left a lot to be desired. They have these floaty devices that they strap around the kids waist. These are not life saving devices. They are loosely connected to the kids' waist, and do not keep the kids' heads above water. Again this wouldn't be a problem if there was more than one teacher for four kids. The city of Seattle has a 1 adult per 2 kids ratio. The teacher had the children dog paddle across the pool in a barely controlled drown. She helped one kid across with her back to the other kids who were in the water with their float devices trying not to drown. So, after she helped my daughter across the pool, she turned her back on her to help another kid. My daughter lets go of the edge, slips out of her floaty device, and goes under water. The teacher is several feet away, and unable to touch the bottom of the pool which is 6 feet deep. I screamed at the teacher who got back and grabbed my daughter as fast as she could. I'd say my daughter was under water for about 2 or 3 seconds. After that I tried to squash my skepticism, and continue. I sat behind my daughter as she sat on the edge. The teacher continued to help the other kids dog paddle across the pool. A few moments later my daughter leaned forward for a toy floating in the water, slipped out of her floaty device, and into the water. The teacher, who I seriously doubt is a lifeguard, was all the way across the pool. I jumped in the water fully clothed to rescue my daughter. At this point I had already decided this place was a lawsuit waiting to happen, but I wanted my daughter to hopefully end on a high note, so waited to let my daughter play with toys while the teacher helped her float. One of the toys she got for the kids to play with was a floating blue square, about 3 ft wide by 3 ft long. Another kid in the class got stuck underneath this square. He was holding his head at an angle to keep his mouth out of the water and doing a frantic dog paddle technique she's taught them. This was going on for several seconds, before I yelled at the teacher who was completely unaware. The poor kid's grandparents were there and also finally realized what was going on at that moment as well. That was one of the scariest things I have even seen. I promptly removed my kid and left. And it gets worse... After this I send an email to the organization letting them know their Renton facility was a deathtrap. The owner called me. She confirmed that there is no certified lifeguard on duty there. Her only defense was "I've been doing this for 17 years." I informed her that the Red Cross publishes pool safety standards and swim instructor manuals, and she should invest. They do have CPR certification, so after your kid drowns and you drag them out of the water yourself because the teacher has her back turned across the pool, she at least can hopefully revive her or him. Do yourself a favor and get real swim lessons. They're half the price. read more

Not for infants. My daughter loved the water until her first lesson at 8 months old. Tried a second class as to not judge on one day the second class was worse and to top it off the second class had a new instructor and she didn't know the songs or sequence of things. For $18 a class it's a rip off when I could have done the same thing on my own w/o submerging my daughter and freaking her out. Their philosophy isn't about teaching them to get used to the water it's about throwing them right in w/o building any kind of trust or reassurance. Very disappointed. The only good thing I can say is the water was warm. I even called to talk with them about what happened and they said they would honor a full refund and they didn't even send half. That's just bad business. I have a friend that said water babies is awesome so that's where I am heading. read more

After trying multiple other pools in the area for swim lessons, there was nothing worse than A High school swimming pool that offers poor instruction by under qualified instructors in freezing cold water, parading my wee ones around on some teenagers piggie back instead of teaching them to swim because "they're cute" while their teeth are chattering and their lips are blue. If that is the kind of instruction and structure your looking for, you won't find it at Kinder Swimmer. Sorry. Being an active parent in a very populated PTSA, It's unanimous with ALL our friends and family, Kinder Swimmer is THE spot! Not only do they offer pools with 92 degree water but their unique float system, you wont see anywhere else, helped all three of my kids learn to swim without allowing them to become overly dependent of their floating device during he short time they needed floats before they quickly moved out of them and started swimming independently. The floats allowed my kids to move their arms freely, yet maintained their safety at all times. Their one on one teaching style and small class structure is supreme. I have had children in lessons with Kinder Swimmer through all three age groups. My 7 month old has been in the infant class for the last 3 months and her progress and love for the water grows with each lesson. I love being able to get in the pool with her and help build our bond and trust as she grows to love the water more and more with each lesson. My middle daughter who is 7 is now swimming the length of the pool and my son who is 8 participates in the advanced swim class where he has gone beyond acquiring the basic swimming skills but has learned to do the breast stroke, butterfly, backstroke etc. Kinder Swimmer has not only given my kids the ability to swim but confidence in doing so and me the piece of mind and security knowing they are safe and have built great skills in the water. We tried the "cheap" route of putting our 3-year-old in swim lessons at the local high school. 10 toddlers to 1 high school student instructor? NO THANKS. I felt like I had to literally stand over the pool and make sure she didn't go under because the instructor didn't pay attention. Terrifying. We have been amazed at how quickly our daughter has adjusted to the water at Kinder Swimmer. She didn't want to be in the water. She went from screaming (literally) and crying her first lesson to now, on her 5th lesson, loving the water and looking foward to lessons. Miss Emily is amazing. Stern but extremely kind. I felt unsure of how to react to my screaming, flailing child at the first lesson, but she assured me that she's dealt with kids more terrified than my daughter (I didn't know that was possible!) and she handled her beautifully without me feeling like I should pull her out of the water. She is NOT afraid of scared kids - and they love her and learn to trust her. There are, max, 5 kids in my daughter's class and they each get individual attention and Miss Emily makes SURE they know what they are doing and doesn't just "assembly line" the kids. The pool is intimate, clean, and the facilities are very nice. We couldn't be more happy with Kinder Swimmer and would recommend it to anyone, especially if you have a child who doesn't like the idea of being in the water. read more

We have had a good experience here. The ratios in city-run swim lessons are much higher - usually at least 5 or 6 to one teacher. The problems we were running into with public lessons is that it is so LOUD and there is so much going on (3 or 4 lessons at once as well as lap swimmers and water aerobics - crazy). My child had difficulty focusing and even hearing the high school aged instructors. We have signed up for private lessons in the city pool, but the instructors look awkward and then ask ME what they should work on with my child. Not helpful. So far, this has been a good compromise for us. read more

I can't say enough nice things about Kinder Swimmer. My daughter was stuck in the same, entry level classes at the Auburn Valley YMCA for three sessions. I faithfully was taking her but seeing no progress. And then I decided to try Kinder Swimmer and voila, my kid started making progress by leaps and bounds. She is just 4 1/2 and is doing the crawl, floating on her back, jumping in, and she is having a blast. Kinder Swimmer made all the difference in my daughter's abilities. I prepaid for two children to get lessons here for two weeks. one day when my aunt took the kids they both came back with injuries. One came back with a busted up nose and a black eye, and the other had scratches all over his chest from the bottom of the pool. So for 40 bucks a lesson per kid I was pretty upset. The owner didn't seem to be to worried about the fact that the only two kids in a private lesson had been hurt. Then after I canceled my lessons I received a phone call a few months later asking me to pay 680 bucks for the lessons my children never took. I kindly asked her to check her books, saying I had dropped the classes after my children were injured. She said there was nothing written anywhere about my kids being hurt. The whole thing was really shady. One of my kids could have been seriously injured because no one was properly monitoring the kids in the water. I was not impressed. read more
