As I type this (on May 12, 2020) my husband and I are parents of a 1 week and 1 day old little boy (our first child) and we are over the moon to have been referred to Sejal by our midwife. Sejal is a miracle worker. My baby hated tummy time. Hated it. He wouldn't last five seconds on his tummy before hysterically crying. I signed up for her tummy time class and even after one week he was comfortable on his belly. We just completed the course today and he can do so much more and is so much stronger than he was. It's amazing to see how quickly and far along he came in four classes. The best part about Sejal and her teaching style is that she explains the why. She doesn't just say "do this and do that" she explains why it's beneficial, what baby will get by doing it, and how it will help their development. She explains the importance of things and has such a gentle approach to it. Never did she make me panic that my baby was falling behind developmentally or put the shame on me for not helping him. She is patient and my baby LOVED her. He'd be mid fit and she'd smile at him and he'd smile right back. Needless to say, if you are a new parent you have to take this class. She's the best. Sejal came to us at a very difficult time... We had a beautiful 5 week old baby boy to care for with very little experience in the baby world. Nursing had become increasingly painful for me -- In fact, I was at a breaking point and wasn't sure how I could continue without completely sacrificing my health and sanity. I reached out to LLL and through them I was referred to Sejal and her mentor. After working with me for just a short couple of hours, we were persuaded to have my son evaluated for tongue tie the very next day and from there our situation changed for the better. Honestly, I was a bit skeptical about the tummy time class at first but then became a TOTAL CONVERT! Sejal is brilliant and explains why certain positions may be resisted by the baby and guides you through how to gradually increase your and the baby's comfort level with more tummy time. I credit getting a lot more tummy time as why I was finally able to stop exclusive pumping and nurse my son after his tongue tie revision, because it helped loosen up all the muscles in his mouth and jaw area that were so tight since before his birth. Sejal came to us via word-of-mouth referral as a "bottle whisperer" - our 3-month-old was on her second round of bottle refusal (screaming at the sight of a bottle), and I was starting to panic. I think I had read every page on the internet about how to get a baby to take a bottle, and nothing was working. Only a few days after our first session with Sejal, our baby was taking multiple bottles a day and actually crying when we took the bottles away before she finished. I was overjoyed. Sejal is the best. After being up all night with a hungry 4-day-old who wouldn't latch and wasn't gaining weight, I called several lactation consultants. No one could see me immediately, and I didn't know where to turn. A friend recommended that I call Sejal at Kindred Mother Care (Sejal had helped her out as a post-partum doula after her twins were born). When I asked Sejal when she could see me, she said, "I'll be there in an hour." What a relief! When she showed up, I was emotional and stressed and exhausted, and Sejal was incredibly helpful and supportive. She has so much knowledge, she's warm and caring, and she is amazing with babies. She showed me infant massage and just knew so much about so many things -- first baths, diaper rashes, bottle feeding, sore boobs, you name it. Sejal is working toward getting certified as a lactation consultant, so she works with a mentor in this area (I met her mentor and loved her as well), but she was more than qualified to help me (and she did!). Sejal has been a lifesaver throughout my breastfeeding experiences over the past 8 months. When it comes to lactation consultants, she is as knowledgeable as they come. She has helped me so many times and always leaves making me feel so much better about whatever issues I'm having. The times that I've seen LCs at the hospital, I ended up being given incorrect assessments and steered in the wrong direction. This is never the case with Sejal. She knows her stuff inside and out and knows all the remedies to help. She comes to your house, is available on short notice, and leaves you feeling so much more in control of your breastfeeding issues. In addition to her coaching with breastfeeding, she will give you breast massages and unclog pores as needed, help with mastitis, give tips for tummy time, make sure you know how to pump correctly, etc etc. Even though her business is not covered by my insurance, after having her help me with so many breastfeeding issues, I know that she is worth it!!! In the beginning weeks of breastfeeding, I don't know how I would have done it without her. I cannot recommend Sejal's services enough! 6 weeks postpartum and Breastfeeding was going well until BAM worst pain of my life! I was crying while nursing, just trying to get through it until someone could see me. I had an apt w a different LC In town and I felt helpless when my apt was done w her. I cried feeling like I didn't know where to turn. And with Christmas it was going to be a week until I can get in anywhere. Sejal was my Christmas angel! She came to my home on Christmas Eve. She spent three hours with me and made me feel confident that the issue I had was resolving. She did I thorough examination of me and my baby and found that although I though nursing was going well, we were having a few issues and she gave me some tips and was very hands on and adjusted the way we were nursing. It sounds so general but this is a great way to describe the support we received because her support was vast and varied depending on what mom, dad and baby needed in the moment. Officially Sejal helped us in a few different contexts: postpartum doula, lactation support, tummy time classes, and infant massage classes. But each time we are around Sejal her generous spirit shines as she helps us with everything and anything she can - and it always seems to be just the right kind of help with what we need in that moment even if we didn't even know what to ask for help with or what we needed. For example, when I was sitting in tummy time class and needed to nurse Sejal would help with the latch and offer suggestions of a new position and have pillows stuffed all around me to make me comfortable before I knew it (she had picked up on the fact that I live with chronic pain and just knew how much I appreciate help reducing nursing associated discomfort). Her help and suggestions are never in a pushy or condescending way but rather delivered with perfect timing and gentleness that an unsteady new mom needs. Sejal's confidence in caring for our newborn and for me as I recovered from a difficult birth experience brought peace and stability to our household. I love every word that Sejal speaks - she brings a calm and loving presence but at the same time is incredibly efficient and hardworking and is very practical at helping solve or address problems quickly. Sejal connected us with so many ideas and resources related to caring for our newborn and while we would have survived the "4th trimester" without her support, having her help made me happier and healthier as I endured a 5+ weeks recovery to get back to normal and I know has helped our son develop and grow much better. For example, Sejal helped us with new ways to get or son to nap during the day that I would have never even thought to ask about or try. She also showed us countless ways to interact with and calm our son that we had no idea about previously (e.g. seated lifts). In addition, I have a chronic health condition that set me up to be at risk of have little or no milk supply and we were prepared for the worst with breastfeeding leading up to the birth. But now our son is 2 months old and super chunky (36th percentile in weight at birth and 75th percentile in weight now) and couldn't be healthier and I have been able to exclusively breastfeed and enjoy breastfeeding. I know for a fact that Sejal helped with this a ton and I attribute a lot of this to her support. On our second night in the hospital I was having major pain and trouble breastfeeding and Sejal came to the hospital with almost no notice in the middle of the night and helped me get through that night, holding the baby above me to nurse while I lay there and rested; she moved him in different positions above me to help with pain - she gave me a massage, reassured us, and brought us nursing supplies and tips like compresses, oils, and saline soaks. On our first night home from the hospital I was still unable to sit and in pain when standing and Sejal set us up with side-lying nursing in our bed so that I could recover, walking us through it and giving us confidence - this saved me and I still use what she taught us that night every single night now. I remember that first night home from the hospital lying in bed drifting in and out of sleep and in horrible pain and Sejal would bring the baby over to me when he needed to nurse - being able to relax in bed knowing that our son was being fully taken care of - the comforting sound of Sejal walking around on our hardwood floors almost at a supernatural speed as she tended to the household chores, cared for the baby, and coached my husband, all the while regularly stopping by the bed to take care of me, bring me water, snacks, give me a massage, put pillows around me for comfort.
