I saw this place on tik tok and am So glad I did. I flew in and didn't feel like going from one bakery to another to get a cake. Haven't had one in years so I got suggestions on places from a coworker who lived here and the socials. I walked in and it wasn't crowded. I saw jewelry, soap and other things Mardi Gras themed. Then I saw a bunch of king cakes. The popular ones are there along with cream filled ones, a few small ones and even a king cake on a stick. It didn't take me long to check out. Last reviewed in 2019 when it was at its first pop up location! Still great and in its 4th spot! The Hub's 2026 location is in the back of a warehouse in a semi industrial area which means more parking! The space inside is fun and roomy with lots of space to peruse your king cake choice. All the king cakes are well labeled so you know what you can find what you're looking for without poking inside the boxes. You want a king cake? They've got it. I don't know of there's an upcharge for the convenience of everything being in one place, but Ill pay it. You can check the website for the partnering bakeries at this year's location on Gravier, but there were at least 20 I saw. Saves you from driving from Metairie to Houma in search of your favourite king cakes. Fast service and we were in and out in under 10 minutes. Now we all know that king cake calories don't count! That being said, with only a few days left until Fat Tuesday, I finally made my way to the hub. One of my favorites, Marguerite's, is sold here; their wedding/ almond extract icing is what stands out from the rest. There was a line of about 30 people when I arrived at 8:15a. They do not open until 8:30a but once they open, the lines move quickly. The layout of the hub is similar to a grocery store where one can walk around to shop and pay at a table. Easy! They also sell cakes by Caywood & Randazzo's, Caluda's, Nocca, a boudin one, a gluten free one, and many more. I will definitely be back. read more

It's that time of the year again! We made sure to go first thing in the morning on Sunday. It was freezing out, so we were able to walk straight inside. It wasn't hectic like last year, so we were able to check out all of the other items. This time we grabbed a Tartine king cake (2 friends who don't know each other had raved about it in the past week) and Nocca's collab with Chef Brigtsen which was a strawberry tres leches. Love this place! Their friendly and helpful service got me so happy after the way I was badly treated at Dong Phuong a few days ago (they were so arrogant with their products) and it was sold out. We bought 7 cakes back to share with our friends and family. This place wants to sell us cakes and gave us excellent customer service. They appreciate we came! Wow! I've been coming here since they were at their old location by the theater on N. Broad. It's a new location @ Zony Mash, but it's the same fantastic service. I'm always greeted warmly when I enter the building. I lucked up today. I came BEFORE Lundi Gras (unlike last year). They were stocked fully, and I was able to get my coveted brand. So no one told me there was a whole king cake hub in Nola with majority of all the awesome Nola bakeries. Had to make a trip to Dong Phuong so took a side trip to this amazing place. Love that they offer individual/small boxes for you to sample if your not sure about the big box on most of the offerings. Get there early to have the wall to wall selection experience. Never made it in the door. I guess it doesn't matter to most people, but for me it defeats the purpose of going to a central location to save time if I have to wait in a 150-200 foot long line out the door to buy a king cake. I'd rather just drive to any king cake location and be in and out the door and heading home before waiting a half-hour or more just to get in the door of the King Cake Hub. I think it is a good idea, but they need to work on executing that idea more efficiently, because pulling up and seeing that line was an instant "NOPE" for me. read more

It's hard for me to do a fair assessment because they were out of 90% of the King Cakes. The girls working up front were super nice and explained they get a fresh supply every morning but sell out fast! I did still leave with an Almond Joy King Cake. I learned from the super nice girls that NOCCO (which appears to be the New Orleans Culinary Arts School) make an Apple and Goat Cheese King Cake. They had me at Goat Cheese! I visited King Cake Hub and purchased a phenomenal king cake. I got the Caluda's dragon claw cake. Apparently it is an exclusive for King Cake Hub so you can't get this one anywhere else. The helpful employee told me it was their answer to the Dong Phuong cake that everyone wants without having to go all the way there and wait in line to see if you can manage to get one. Well let me tell you, I have never tried one of those cakes but I can't imagine it being better than this one by Caluda's. The texture was not like the brioche ones. It was sort of like a cross between cinnamon roll/ croissant . It was dense and moist and so delicious! Lots and lots of cinnamon goodness and with a delicious cream cheese icing. And it was a beautiful cake. Trust me, if you can get your hands on one of these you will not regret it! We arrived at the store about 10 minutes before they opened and were first in line to go in (on a Thursday). read more

Okay, so full disclosure, this place was a bit hard to find, but only because I didn't check out their site before I left the house. I wanted to go to the King Cake Hub, so I just typed it into Google Maps and drove over. What I didn't know was that the address listed with Maps was for a location on South Broad, but they've moved since then. When I got there, I found a sign on the door of their older location directing us to their new location at Zony Mash (only a mile and a half down the road). TL;DR - Their locations are listed and up-to-date on their website, so check their webpage!! This is a small little shop with a good variety of king cakes from different bakeries, so it's convenient! I got Hi-Do bakery's cream cheese filled king cake ($22). It was FANTASTIC. SO soft and moist, fresh, with plenty of delicious cream cheese filling in the middle! Pretty simple. I tried to order online but the system was down. We drove over to the hub and were pleased with the ease of location and parking. Once inside, there were some empty shelves (we arrived at about 3pm) but we were still able to choose between some flavors. Traditional, Cream cheese, Snickerdoodle, Strawberry Cheese cake, Raspberry cheesecake, and a goat cheese one. There were also some really cute baby king cakes and slices as well. We chose a raspberry cream cheese king cake from NOCCA. We paid with a credit card but cash is also accepted. Made a quick weekend visit to Nola, you CAN'T go to Nola without getting a King's cake. I looked up where I could get one, and this is one of the recommendations. What I love about this is that they get supplies of King Cakes from other bakeries that make them and sell them there. Like it says, it's a hub. I arrived a little late in the day and there weren't many options left. I got the Lemon King Cake and it was definitely delicious! Fun experience and most importantly, efficient and time saving! I swung by King Cake Hub to grab a few king cakes so I could have an excuse to check it out in-person. Went on a Saturday mid-afternoon so I was a tad nervous about the line. I wait a total of 10/12 minutes max before entering and it was such a smooth process. Everyone was socially distant and the lady managing capacity at the front door was ensuring everyone was wearing masks. They feature a plethora of king cakes not only from New Orleans but the surrounding area as well. Everything was well organized and categorized by establishments. This has been my favorite stop for the past two years. I love King Cake, and I'm always looking to try as many King Cakes as possible when I'm in town. The King Cake Hub is really just a pop-up in a driveway that collects all kinds of King Cakes from many different bakeries in the area. You're not always guaranteed to get a certain kind on a certain day, or at a certain time, but you will always get a wide variety of the seasonal cakes with different fillings, and flavors, and even some different styles of King Cake that you might not expect. This year, my favorite "new" treat was the King Cake on a Stick. You better believe as soon as I got inside my car on that gloriously humid day, I pulled it out of the bag and enjoyed! It doesn't matter who you enjoy your King Cake from, the Hub has something for everyone! read more

King Cake Hub is truly a hub in more than one way. First: for buying king cakes, it's a room full of racks from different bakeries in the area--this is the intended meaning of the name. Second: its location is truly a hub for New Orleans (more on that below). Third: for years, for decades this was the location of Meyer's Auto Parts, famous for wheels, wheel covers and--wait for it--hub caps. A special extra star to the proprietors of King Cake Hub for incorporating that history into their business's name. Not that an extra star would be needed. Even without the nod to its historic hub heritage, a long time New Orleanian could walk into this place and ask, "Why didn't someone think of this sooner?" Most of the major King Cake outlets are represented, including Caluda's, Gambino's, Randazzo's (or to be precise, "Caywood and Randazzo's", which if know my New Orleans branding traditions just might mean a spinoff from Manny Randazzos? Not sure about that.) There are number of bakeries I'd never heard of before, but will remember from this season on. Among those are Hi-Do and Sugar Love from Slidell. The excellent and unusual traditional French-style cakes from NOCCA's student bakery are there, as are novel takes on cakes from Bywater Bakery. Zuppardo's, where my momma bought king cakes in the 60s and 70s, is there. Breads on Oak? There. Did I forget anyone? Probably. Please check the website (or just go in!) for a complete list. (And mention them in this review's tips, too). I did not see Haydel's, Paul's of Picayune, or Dong Phuong cakes on display, so this is not quite a complete collection. (I do not know whether these bakeries were sold-out when I visited, or simply don't participate.) If your heart is set on one of those, or from any baker that sells out, you may have to drive--in some cases, quite far--to get them, and be there when the cakes come out. A word to the wise: a baker who sells out is usually worth seeking out or waiting for. Selections from each bakery are neatly arrayed on wire racks identified by signs and the hopeful marketing on each bakery's packaging. It's an overwhelming choice, but one made easier by helpful recommendations from staff. Some cakes come in only weekly and sell out fast. Inconvenient, but that's how you know a cake is both fresh and a crowd favorite. And what are these cakes for, if not crowds? I ended up with two cakes from different bakeries new to me but recommended by a helpful staffer. Two, because both were fast sellers and I didn't know whether either would be in stock later. Both were so good they were eaten up in couple of days. Back to the hub, Part Two, from above: King Cake Hub is in an unheralded but historic area of the city. The aging bridge just down Broad Street today serves as an expressway overpass, but originally it crossed the New Basin Canal that carried barge commerce for a century before concrete replaced the channel and tractor-trailers replaced barges. The gritty old industrial character of this neighborhood owes its origin to that historic canal, closed and filled in 1947. On the other side of the bridge is a central intersection from New Orleans' pre-Interstate days, the terminus of US Highway 61 where US 90 westbound makes its turn toward downtown. Diagonally across the street is one of the old AT&T Long Lines microwave towers that connected cities across the US, starting just four years later (1951) on through the network's decommissioning in 1993. Many of these towers still stand nationwide atop downtown central exchange buildings or stand-alone truss towers (like this one). The distinctive microwave horns are mostly gone, but many carry on in a a second life as a wireless cell tower. read more

Finally made a trip to the King Cake Hub to get a weekend treat. First, logistics. I think they have a parking lot on S Bernadotte, so you don't have to park on the street, but keep in mind that S Bernadotte is your typical bumpy New Orleans side street. I didn't look at any pictures before going, and I've never been to The Mortuary, so I wasn't sure what to expect. I figured they'd be set up in a little lobby or something, but no. Instead they were set up outside, under the large side awning. They did have a refrigerator case for products that have to be kept cold, but I can't help but wonder what happens on a hot day. Overall it has a good selection, and a half-price table for older cakes. Good place to stop if you want a king cake but don't know what you want. They do accept cash and credit. read more

Loved rolling up here when it was located in the front driveway of a funeral home. Wherever they're located, this is worth coming to to get a taste of a variety of king cakes without traveling all over town! This was where I got my first Bywater Chantilly and it's remained my favorite; full of berries and luxrious Chantilly cream, it would be a mistake not to buy this even if they only offer whole cakes. Frankly, if you don't like it something is wrong with you and you can give it away to people and make friends instantly. Sugar Loves King Cake on a Stick is perfect for when you just want a taste and not a whole cake (and it still comes with a baby). Almond and cinnamon are the flavors but the cinnamon doesn't run through the whole cake. There are three braids and it was only in the center braid, but even the almond on it's own was delicious, like eating mellow marizpan. Caluda's classic king cake with cinnamon was too sugary for me. Even if I ate around the frosting sweetness was mostly all I tasted, but it was nice and fluffy. Customer service was extremely friendly! read more
