Staying right across the street from the church, this was an easy decision! While we never actually sat down for a meal here, we did have a couple of take out orders. The first was a hamburger for dinner. The burger was delicious once I got back to our room to eat it. It was an extremely busy Friday night and I was warned that there would be quite a wait. Actually, it was only a half hour. Customer service was excellent. The second was a Denver Omelette and hash browned potatoes that we shared for breakfast the next morning. It was a delicious meal. Again, service was excellent. I even declined an offer to have the meal delivered to our room Negatives: 1. There was no fridge or microwave in the room. I was awaken about 4:00am, I thought my husband was taking a shower, I felt him, so I know it wasn't him. It must have been a loud fan! 2. We couldn't look outside the windows, we have our drapes closed all of our stay, the outside seats for the restaurant were right outside, and it can get noisy during Happy Hour. 3. The sink is too small, none of the glass shelves are fit for my Waterpik. Positives: 1. The pillows were perfect. The TV channels were right on my show. 2. The temperature of the room was good, no drafts. 3. The night light also goes on, when all the lights are off. That's a bonus, because we always forget to bring our night light. 4. I love the colors, decor, ceiling fan light of the room. 5. In the morning, Fresh coffee was available on a table right outside our door. If I wasn't reading on the back of their menu, I would not have known or heard about their St. Francis Turkish style bath. If we have more time in the day & night, we could have done some tours around the building in and out. There's always a next time!

It's in good shape and is interesting without having ridiculous holes. - Two pool tables in fair shape. - Food menu is typical of the breed; vegetarians will struggle. - If you're here to bowl, note that there are more small children at Sun Mountain than at Lava Lanes but they tend to congregate in the arcade area.

I'd plan at least 4 hrs here but you can easily spend all day. There's interactive and interesting exhibits on volcanos, the history of central Oregon, the Native tribes, animals (all rescues and include a skunk, bobcat, porcupine, birds of prey, snakes, lizards, otters, turtles, tortoises, free roaming chickens and turkeys, and more) and a really cool raptors show - don't miss this! It's better than the bird show at Disney World. The best part are the volunteers. There's volunteers dressed in period attire, teaching kids leather art, weaving, and games kids used to play. My kids LOVED this. There's other volunteers with animal furs or shells or skeletons that kids can actually touch and learn so much about. And there's Gary, the best volunteer who just knows everything and is the most friendly and helpful person ever. Seriously, he made our whole visit so pleasant. The raptor show is an $8/person add on but so worth it. It's only once a day so get tickets early. I won't spoil it, but sit near the middle/rear near any of the stumps... Also, if you're military, admission is free between May-Sept as HDM is part of the Blue Star Museums program. Don't forget to stop by the gift shop and cafe! All money goes to helping more rescue animals!

We went through the indoor animals pretty quickly, and then found an 80s themed volcano exhibit, which was very classy. Felt like stepping back in time in 1985. All of the art looked like something out of my high school planner ha ha. We found the pioneer section that talked about different time periods in Bend, Oregon, everything from settlers, miners, indigenous, people, and some more modern things. It was like a time capsule. The ambience was really cool too. Lots of ambient sounds and music. Seeing the animals was really cool. It always warms my heart to see otters playing together, swimming together, and just being cute. Although my wife and I aren't very big fans of animals in cages at zoos, we can tell the animals are really well taken care of here, and since many can't be released back into the wild, we do it as them getting a new lease on life and getting to be admired, adored, and educating people as they pass through Bend, Oregon, and stopped for a visit. Definitely worth the money. Good parking. Service was very good. I can tell the people who run the museum really like what they do.

The cashier was immediately welcoming and shared that local high school students are mainly the artists on display, with all manner of things for sale. The main draw here is used books, arranged by topic, but there's artwork and antiques mixed in everywhere. I bought a few charms and some junk journaling style post cards. It's one of those places you don't really know what you want to buy until something speaks to you. Prices are reasonable, you can tell this is more of a passion shop. If you're in Bend and looking for local fun shops, this one should be on your list.

Still, it's hard to beat, and we were lucky enough to grab a couple tickets to see our first movie in a theater in more than a year. And while I was nowhere near as excited to see "Tom and Jerry" as my wife was, it was still a very relaxing, enjoyable time. I forgot how much I have missed that communal theater experience. If you find yourself yearning to relive that experience yourself, you're not going to find a better place to do it than at a McMenamins theater, and the Old St. Francis theater is among the best.

Chris, one the nicest bartenders in town will take your food/drink order and do everything to make you feel like a "regular." This might be one of the most underrated places in Bend.
