We ordered the chicken kabab family meal. The portions were HUGE, and the prices fair. The chicken was a bit dry but the rice was well flavored and aromatic and the Greek salad was delicious. The hummus was decent. The falafel (side dish, cost extra) was fantastic. Service was quick (we did take out and it was ready in about 10 min), and restaurant was clean inside.

Have never had a bad meal! Service is always great! A lil pricy, but you get your filling for it! Best salmon I've ever had! Prefer to come here for it over anywhere else

Charleston is a bit of a food desert if you ask me so this was a bright spot. Middle eastern fast food. You do need to get over the rundown neighborhood and shabby interior but the food is great! We had a mixed family platter with lamb and chicken and the meat was spot on with decent sides. Do take out if you possibly can, we were traveling through so had to eat in and the paper utensils and rickety table are the only reason I'm not giving it five stars.

I ate here a few years back when they first opened and really liked their food. I hadn't been back since until recently. Please beware. I know mistakes happen..but I am so glad I noticed the piece of raw chicken sticking out of my chicken shawarma wrap before I ate anymore. I opened my wrap only to find another piece of raw chicken. The owners apologized immensely and gave me a full refund. Thankfully I didn't get sick.

The best Arabic food in the area, the shawarma sandwiches were amazing 10/10, fries were great and the hummus with steak and hummus with lamb are the best I've had in a while, I would definitely recommend that u try them when u stop by. The staff was very helpful and friendly it's open for dine in and the place inside is very nice and family friendly. Prices are a little on the higher side but very reasonable for the quality and taste that u get so I would definitely recommend it

So happy with the food and service here! The line can get super long around lunch time but the food is worth the wait! The portion size for chicken kabobs was great (tons of rice and large chicken pieces). Love that they use chicken breasts so it keeps it healthy. The owner is very friendly and I will definitely be back if I return to the area. It is the best food I had while visiting! They also have online ordering for to-go orders

We stopped in Charleston and decided to try this as it's halal and near the interstate highway. We ordered the lamb shawarma, beef shawarma, and French fries. Lamb shawarma was good, beef shawarma I didn't really like, and the French fries were really good! We ordered another French fries because we really liked them. Service was good and both people behind the counter were wearing masks.

While on a business trip in Charleston, WV I stumbled upon this place and decided to give them a try. I got there around 6 PM and the place was mostly empty with a few people getting takeout. The place does not have great ambience which I am ok with as long as the food is excellent. I ordered King combo which is a Kefta kabab (Beef and Lamb) and Chicken kabab platter. I also ordered Tabbouleh salad with it. They gave a Yogurt sauce with the platter and offered me garlic mayo sauce and Tahini sauce in addition. The food was full of flavor and the kababs were melting in my mouth. I have dined at Middle Eastern / Mediterranean places in Houston, DMV area, and other big cities and the food here is definitely one of the best I have had for Middle Eastern cuisine. Just two days later, I got myself Lamb chops and Hummus. Even better!! Lamb chops were succulent and perfectly grilled. I will definitely be coming back to this place when I am in Charleston for business.

We started the evening scouring the menu for tonight's choices and settled on pierogies and falafel for an appetizer. The warm pierogies with potato and cheese filling had the right amount of creamy texture with the perfect crunch. The falafel with tahini and garlic sauce completed the appetizer. I saved some of the tahini sauce to have with the falafel wrap. The pita bread filled with falafel and veggies, accompanied by a side of tahini sauce, was the perfect balance for an evening meal. I noticed quite a few people coming in for dessert, which included the cheesecake. Admittedly, I was too full to enjoy the cheesecake at the restaurant, so I ordered a baklava cheesecake to go. It was amazing! The crunchiness of the sweet baklava paired with the cheesecake is a perfect balance to the tanginess of the cheesecake. The quality of ingredients and flavors used are perfect in every dish. The selection of food choices is hand-selected and crafted to perfection. Phenomenal restaurant! As a side I got the tomato cucumber salad which was also very good. The chef came out near the end of dinner to check on us and see how we were doing. We sat outside on the patio because it was a lovely evening so I can't really speak to the ambiance but the patio was very nice!! I'd definitely come here again I only wish my traveling partner had heeded my advice and we could have come here before our last night in town!!

Executive Summary…read more Gyro King has the potential to be a standout downtown option, with a spacious and inviting setup, generous portions, and friendly service. But my visit on a Saturday afternoon left me underwhelmed. The flavors hinted at quality, yet the execution and pricing missed the mark. My gyro combo with chips and a drink totaled $16.44--by far the most expensive meal I had during several days in town--and the soggy, warmed-over meat made the price sting even more. This is a place I'd be willing to try again during a busier time when the kitchen is moving quickly, but based on my experience, value and consistency need real improvement before Gyro King earns a higher spot on my downtown list. Full Review Location & Atmosphere Gyro King benefits from a great downtown location, adjacent to the market but operating as its own restaurant with a connecting doorway. That setup gives you shared market restrooms but still allows Gyro King to have its own space and vibe. Inside, the room is clean and appealing--long counter seating along one wall, tables down the middle, and classic tin-style ceiling panels that add character. It's bright, airy, and big enough to handle either a quick solo stop or a sit-down with friends. Parking downtown is another story. On a Saturday afternoon with a home football game nearby, both street parking and the lot out back were a challenge. That said, once inside, the restaurant was empty and I was greeted almost immediately by the gentleman working, who even stepped out to check on me as I paused at the side door. Service Friendly, quick, and attentive. Ordering was simple, and I appreciated the proactive greeting--it makes a difference when you walk into an empty dining room. Food I ordered the Original Gyro ($8) with chips and a drink, which brought my total to $16.44. For a gyro and chips, that's steep--easily the most expensive meal I had over several days in town. And while the serving size was generous (so big the box lid barely closed), the value just didn't match the quality. The bread, veggies, and sauce were fine--exactly what you'd expect. The meat, though, was the disappointment. It had good flavor, maybe even something house-prepared, but it had been sitting in a warmer too long. Instead of those crispy, caramelized edges that make gyro meat shine, it was soggy and soft. The taste hinted at greatness, but the execution let it down. When you're paying a premium, that gap matters. Overall Impression Gyro King checks a lot of boxes: strong location, clean and stylish dining space, attentive service, and portions that impress. But the pricing and execution are off. For $16+, I expect a gyro that delivers on texture as well as taste. Maybe during peak lunch or dinner hours when turnover is high, the food is excellent--but on a slower afternoon, it was underwhelming and overpriced. Would I return? Probably--but only at a busier time when I know the meat won't be languishing in a warmer. As it stands, Gyro King is a place with promise, but they're missing the mark for value.

There's also the typical kinds with chicken and lamb, and they always smell good even though I have never eaten them. It has some good sides like the baba ghannouch and the hummus appetizers, which come with pita bread. The gyros all come with the Ali Sauce, which is made with yogurt. You can substitute baba ghannouch or hummus for it, and it's still good though. I recommend this food truck over the others on Union Street. It's so much better and the prices are fair.
