Friends and I went to Aladdin's in Kanawha City for dinner last night. It was FAN-tastic! As there is still essentially just one waitress, you cannot be in a hurry if you come here to dine. But she is fantastic, and another lady helps to bring out the food. And the Chef also helped to deliver some dishes. I was torn between my go-to Veg Platter, with all of the goodies, and Moussaka. Several friends got the platter so I went for the Vegetarian Eggplant Moussaka (with peppers and mushrooms), and it was amazing!!! My friends plan to order it next time. The tomato sauce and the melted cheese was up there with the best I've ever tasted. The veggies were tender and tasty. Just a fantastic dish. The rice was perfect and the green beans are always good, altho I forgot to ask for a little extra sauce on them. Honestly, some of the best middle eastern food I've ever had. And I've had middle eastern cuisine everywhere from L.A. To London! This was my first visit, but I'm glad I only checked Yelp after I was there otherwise I would've second guessed it. Everything was made fresh and I could taste it in every bite. Even tubouleh which normal can have some bitterness was perfectly prepared that I could even eat it on its own. The service was excellent; we were seated promptly and our waitress was attentive and knew the menu. I was a little concerned about portion size but the platters were more than filling. The food left me feeling full and satisfied. We ordered the Spinach dip as an appetizer. Normally I'm not a fan, but this dip paired well w/ the toasted pita and wasn't heavy but full of flavor. It's kinda small if you plan on sharing w/ more than two people. We even met the owner and was happy to see that he was one of the actual chefs that night. The lighting has been upgraded and the restaurant in spacious and inviting. I would ignore any of the negative reviews and give Aladdin's a try. read more

My husband and I went to try this restaurant we waited for 20 minutes while the waitress just stood there talking we were the only people there. It was also dark and musky and outdated and parking is horrible. Not to mention everything is very pricey. Ugh read more

This restaurant serves a combination of Middle Eastern and Mediterranean food. I've looked forward to visiting and finally had the opportunity to dine with a friend here last weekend. The service was good, the right combination of helpful without hovering. I enjoyed a Greek salad with gyros, as well as baba ghanoush and falafel. The falafel was a bit dry, but all else was tasty. I hate to complain. But other than the waitress being very friendly, there isn't anything good to say. Hummus was terrible. No flavor and bad texture. Pita bread is store bought, chicken strips were also store bought. Rice pilaf had no flavor, but wasn't bad. Spinach Dip was served steaming hot, and I'm told was ok. I didn't try it. Three waitresses sat at bar whole time we were there, complaining about low tips and how slow the restaurant was. My waitress was very friendly when she was at the table though. She was bad though in the sense that all three meals were brought at different times. I was only here while traveling, but I wouldn't come back if I were local. read more

Aladdin is not a place I would recommend. I don't have a lot of positive things to share from the service to the food. The service was very slow and the server was not very knowledgeable. At first we chalked it up to maybe she was new, but this was not the case. We asked what beers they had on tap and she had no clue that they didn't have any beers on tap, only bottles. A glass of sweet tea came out as dark as the glass of coke. When asked if they had a new pitcher it was a much better color, but unsweet. When we pointed out it was unsweetened we were greeted with a shrug and sorry. ...alrighty then! Food was very bland. We started with the fried kibbee and hummus. The kibbee Tasted like unseasoned meat formed into a cone shape and deep fried. The hummus had no flavor. We ordered an extra side of pita and were served a basked with 8 pieces. Our server informed us that was the pita that came with hummus and the extra. Only 4 pieces come with a huge scoop of hummus? Entrees were just ok. Two people orders the kabobs I had the moussakah. The moussakah was actually pretty good(only reason for the second star), but both my rice and vegetable side were room temp to cold. It took an extremely long amount of time for our entrees to hit the table, about 30 minutes after the apps. But we did notice the chef regularly chatting up other diners. We felt bad for the party next to us who were seated before us. We ate and paid before their entrees ever came out. Would not go back. read more

Terrible pick up - Called over an hour ahead and waited 30 minutes . Female Manager went to to the bathroom when I checked in - maybe to do what- I waited . Other staff tried to compensate. This woman, in Black, continued to say it was not her fault. I told her to fix it and she was rude. She said she's worked there for years. I told her, 'you clearly haven't fixed it." Loudly. Do your customers need to hear of Back Talk to a long time client? I could've used my bar/restaurant experience on her. She's not a good representative of your organization and we will call bc we like Aladdin.just not a petulant woman who won't own. read more

Charleston, West Virginia is not known for its ethnic food. Alladin is an exception. Other than tidewater grill this is my favorite restaurant in Charleston. Some of the most authentic and delicious Syrian food in America and I have eaten in arabic restaurants all around the country (check my Yelp reviews). The Kabab meat is perfectly spiced and extremely juicy and fresh. The hummos is authentic and full of flavor. I never ate better falafel not even in Syria especially once it comes out of the fryer. I think that these bad reviews honesty are because this food is so alien to our area that people do not know what it tastes like or what authentic arab food is. Some even called it Greek food which is wrong. The service was fast and efficient. I think one of the best things on the menu is the tabbouleh which is full of flavor and authentic. Another thing which everyone must order is the kibbeh which is extremely authentic and is very rare to find in the state. I think one thing that could be improved is the decor which is a bit outdated and the dark lights. If the lights were a bit stronger I think it would be better. read more

I started dining at Aladdin's a few years ago, and it didn't take long for them to become one of my local favorites. They specialize in Mediterranean cuisine, but are not strictly limited to it. The filet kabobs are my favorite, served with rice and green beans (mixed w/ tomatoes). Quiet atmosphere, great service, and the food is always consistent. Do not waste your time going to this place. We walked in and there were three employees at the bar who were so busy complaining about their jobs they waved us to sit anywhere. Finally we received our menu's and a little attention but the waitress quickly ran back to the bar to continue complaining about the owner and pushing the blame for not having customers. We ordered hummus and had to add salt and pepper in order to eat it. I had chicken and shrimp kabob and it was cooked well but no seasoning, again I had to add salt and pepper. I recommend the filet kabob. with Lubia bi Zeit (green beans and tomatoes), and sauteed mushrooms. My wife enjoyed the chicken kabobs. The venue is a little worn, but the service was nice. A little pricey, but good Syrian food. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone that loves Syrian food. Wonderful Greek food as long as you don't care about quality. On a date with my fiance I decided to play it safe and get mussaka. The taste of the eggplant was destroyed by the horrid preservatives from the canned tomatoes. There is nothing fresh about this place... save for their hummus. It wouldn't be so bad if the insult did not amplify when I received a bill that reflects that of a real restaurant. From now on when I want this type of food I will make the drive to Lexington, KY. read more

I ate here for the first time last weekend. From the outside, I was a little concerned. However, when we opened the doors and walked inside, I found the decor to be simple but elegant and relaxing. We started our meal with the hummus and warm pita. It was really good. I had the Greek salad and that too was great. For the entree, I had the filet and chicken kabob and my husband had the chicken grilled. We both enjoyed our meals very much. The wait staff was attentive and friendly. Heard good things about this place and excited to try the food. Went there a year ago for first time and both service and food were great. Went there for a second time last week and was very disappointed with the service. There was only one waitress and one guy (looks like owner) working on a Thur night in a packed place. We had Turkish coffee for startup and it was bad!! It was too strong and tasted like someone spilled coffee grounds in it. The food took almost an hour and when we asked if the food was made and if not we were thinking about leaving, the guy said it was done. No apology. He acted like we were inconviencing him. Then the waitress just dropped our plates on table. She was very rude. I understand she had a rough night but I didn't pay to get my food slammed on the table. We never got our water refilled either. But the food was good, especially the hummus was very creamy. Pita bread was cold and stale almost. Overall,the food was great but the service was so bad that I would never go back. read more

This would be a 2-star review if not for the friendly server and unbelievably good vanilla bean cheesecake. Falafel was terribly bland. Rice was seasoned with only black pepper. Shish tawook was pretty good but more spicy than flavorful. My date ate most of his kibbee but didn't seem to enjoy it much. Turkish coffee was bad. Decor is bad. Aladdin is my favorite restaurant in Charleston. I love the hummus and pita bread - so good. I usually order either the chicken kabab or filet kabab and they are both excellent. I don't know where they get their meat, but I've never had anything like it! The servers are great. Because I'm a regular, I have had the chance to meet the owner several times and he is one of the nicest guys you'll meet. Finally, yes the food is pricy but you get what you pay for! read more

Good Mediterranean (Lebanese) food. It is very good for large groups. They have a nightclub room for parties or large dinners. We ate buffet style with an open bar at a large private gathering, and we thought all of the food and the service was very good. read more

Went here for the first time after reading some of the reviews. The food was incredibly bland.. From the appetizers, main course, and desserts nothing had any flavor. I can't get enough of their Greek Salads! It's the BEST. Atmosphere is nice and quiet and there aren't so many tables in the restaurant that you feel like you're going to bump elbows with your neighbor. Price seems a little high for a salad (about $12 for a small salad after I add grilled chicken) but it's so delicious - it makes it worth the money. I also really enjoy their hummus and pita. If you ask them to warm the pita, it tastes even better. read more
