This place's air alone feels dirty and unwashed. That is the immediate thought that comes to my mind when I was shopping here. While I do like the idea that they kept some old-timey styles, like pastel painted coolers in the bakery, the whole place feels like putting a smiling mask on a hobo. Not one employee that I ran into was at all pleasant, even a couple in meat were just complaining that they had to, get this, work on a job. Which they weren't even puttibg effort into, by the way. We went to a couple of King Soopers while we were in town and were pleasantly surprised. To us they were basically a Fry's Food and Drug store like we have in Arizona. Our Fry's reward card even works the same because they are both owned by Kroger. Each store was laid out nicely. Each had an in-store Starbucks which was very convenient for morning drinks. The associates we dealt with or asked assistance from were pleasant and helpful. Next time we are in Denver it will be our go to grocery stop. read more

Because of pharmacy limitations associated with my Medicare prescription drug coverage I was forced to use this pharmacy for several years to refill my prescription for pain medication. Although a few of the pharmacists were helpful, overall I found this pharmacy to be very poorly run. Every time I refilled my 30-day prescription the process was slightly different, which meant that every refill became frustrating and took longer than 30 days. The inefficiency might have been acceptable had the employees been pleasant and helpful, but many were rude and unhelpful. (Kudos to Raeanne, who moved to the Glendale Soopers pharmacy.) if you can use a different pharmacy than this one, I suggest you do just that. read more

The Mayfair King Soopers has is on the fast track out of the neighborhood. The store is a mess, the staff is rude and the self check-out is long.....since employees don't work the check out lines! Try to get help? Good luck! I'm a long time resident and Park Hill and have shopped this store a long time. However, I'm done. This store is dirty, produce is a mess and sooo many of the items you consider buying are expired! Pay close attention. And they were on strike? For what? They may actually have to work? This king soopers location is a pretty typical king soopers. Nothing sticks out necessarily. A good selection of all your grocery needs as expected and a pretty clean establishment overall. I went in the self check out and the scanners didn't cause me any issues (for once). King soopers as always is a little more expensive compared to other grocery store options. read more

an unpleasant checkout experience I do appreciate the self-checkout machines when i have a small order. For tonight, though, i had a week's worth of groceries. The only open lanes were the self-serve ones. It was a long, unpleasant experience. I always try not to bother people, but I needed help three times. There was one staff member, and she was assisting three of us. She tried hard and did remain polite -- even helpful. A few years ago, because of this issue, I switched to another King Soopers store: one with more generous staffing at the registers. At that new store, people work hard to keep more lanes open, and they even bag the groceries, a service which I don't insist on. Tonight's experience at Mayfair took way too long and was unpleasant. Don't shop here if you know how to read. If you were to see the item pictured below what price would you expect the item be?! I purchased 4 of these items based on the sale price. When it was charged at the full price I questioned the charges and was told the price was wrong, basically take it or leave it. Also store routinely out of basic items. Today there were employees talking outside of the egg cooler, egg cooler was nearly empty except for the 2 dozen flats. The eggs were sitting in crates in front of the cooler and generally no concern for getting items restocked. The one star is for the nice cashier that was helping me. This place is laughable. The produced isle looks like Supermarket Sweep just happened. Frequently out of stock on general everyday produce. However, thank God the rude staff is there to go look should you muster up the courage to actually ask. I've learned to grab a cart from the parking lot because there are often none inside. Then when I find what I need (providing they have it in stock) I check myself out because the collective poor attitude runs throughout the store. If I wanted to be ignored and disrespected, I could just go home for that. Most notably is the meat counter where no one seems to know anything about meat. I'll break my own rule of not speaking to the staff here. I like to ask the most elementary of questions because the answers are usually very amusing. I appreciate that they are finally remodeling but we all know what they say about polishing a turd. It's truly amazing how comfortable they are being the D- student of the chain. Tried to take advantage of a buy 8 get for $.99 each on progreso soup deal. It didn't pull it up on the register. Then I had to wait for the lady to mosey over to the soup aisle. Then wait as the employee attempted to read the upc on ever shelf tag on the shelves starting with the top row. Every single one had the mix and match option tag on them. When I said the can was down here, that they had to check every label. At that point, I walked away and told her she could restock all of my groceries and left the store. I do not have time for meandering and slow ineptness. I am not sure if the employee was slow, but reminded me of someone after sparking up a joint on lunch. I get that hiring is hard these days, but Kroger should keep their systems in better shape for cross skew sales. It is not that hard. read more

What is the DEAL with Denver grocery stores? Almost all of the King Soopers with the exception of the very newest ones, look like you have stepped back into the 1980s. Kroger, inc should be ashamed of themselves for allowing these places to exist. I've lived in two cities with plenty of Krogers, Nashville & Knoxville. TN. They were NOTHING like the ghetto store King Soopers is running here in Denver. They even have me missing Publix in Florida, something I thought never would happen. It's a crapshoot if they are going to have half & half in stock every time I go in one of their stores. Weirdly enough that's true for ALL grocery stores here in Denver. Is there a shortage of cows in the mid-west? Also what is the deal with Quaker Oats Cinnamon Spice flavored Oatmeal? Literally, NO ONE regularly carries it here! Why? Is it an East Coast thing? Since moving to Denver a few years ago, I've had pretty A-OK experiences with King Soopers. This one in Montclair is slightly better than most, especially given their floral/balloon section. I've stopped in for last-minute housewarming presents and birthday balloons and the gal working the counter (the hidden counter, which is tucked away behind the big wall of ready-made arrangements) is always SO nice! And I bet you didn't know that there's sometimes free flowers or discounted flowers in that secret area? A homeless man gave me a rose there once. Granted, he was giving them out to just about every woman in a 100-foot radius, but still... it's the thought that counts. Also in the floral section are build your own bouquets. They have flowers and fillers in buckets, where you can make your own creation. It's usually less than $20 and looks fairly professional. The rest of the store is fairly standard, plus a nice selection of fancy cheeses. Then you can stay in the KS parking lot and pick up wine from Mayfair Liquors just across the way. read more

Tonight I went to this location after not having been in a few months. I was impressed by the renovations - it didn't feel so cramped anymore and the Starbucks is a nice touch. I found everything I needed (which is hardly ever the case at some of the other locations). Most impressive though is that my cashier of the night (shout out to Michael G!) was totally unfazed by my overflowing cart, and scanned all my items while being personable and kind even though it was the end of his shift. I ended up needing two baskets (it's a lot, I know), and he helped carry them out and load the car. The gentleman who helped bag was also very diligent. Exceptional service and store :) read more

Recently I witnessed something disturbing in the self check-out lane at the King Soopers on 14Th & Krameria. This store has the WORST customer service, and why do they put their slowest workers in the lanes that are supposed to be the fastest.. especially during the holidays? In my opinion, it's really stupid what King Soopers employees did to their customer. My husband encouraged me to write this to get it off my chest. The customer at the register next to me had a coupon that didn't work because he bought the wrong item. I heard him ask an attendant if that item could be voided from his order and (laughing about it) said it 'was a tricky coupon'. The attendant was a very slow elderly man. It appeared he made the motions like he was voiding the item but when the customer checked, the attendant hadn't voided the item. The slow attendant started doing something on another register. The customer asked him if he could please void the item and he just ignored him. The customer looked at me and asked "How do I get someone to help?" There was another attendant in the adjacent self check-out lanes just standing looking at the monitor. The customer asked if he could help void an item and he said "No, I'm helping a customer", but it didn't look like he was helping anyone. The customer said "I guess I'm stuck with buying this".. then he said "but I don't want it!" So the customer waited a while again, and then said to the first attendant "Something is wrong. I thought you voided this item but you didn't. Could you please assist me with this so I can leave?" He did not void the item. Its going on 5-7 minutes that the customer has been waiting and there's a line of people waiting to check out. The store Manager came over and was MAD (at the customer). The store Manager voided the item, the customer slid the voided item back onto the self check-out desk. The Manager screamed at him and said "Don't throw that at me". The customer started getting upset (I don't blame him). King Soopers just sabotaged their customer relationship. The customer said "I don't think I will ever come back here". The store Manager says "NO! you can never come back to this store again! You are not allowed in this store ever!" ...all because the idiot self check-out hosts wouldn't do the right thing. The way I saw it was that the self check-out host(s) antagonized the customer for no reason. You just lost 2 customers in a split second. This is why the ratings for this store are so low. Because of what I witnessed, I vow to never again shop at the King Soopers on 14th & Krameria (Mayfair store), and perhaps we won't patronize any King Soopers. Been shopping here for 34 years and I'm fed up with the place. We average over a thousand dollars a month spent at this store. I am in there 5 ish times a week at a wide variety of times of day. They are frequently understaffed and increasingly the items I shop for are dropped from the shelves. First they move the place where the item is stocked then they reduce the amount that's stocked and then the item goes missing. One time they had six people working in the deli department but only two were serving the waiting customers - and one of them was only working the fried chicken "station"! The other day A head clerk came over to help the cashier that was checking my cart. While she brought up items up from the lower section of the mini cart I was using , one of them said that "they'd always thought customers should be required to bring up the items from the bottom of the cart" to which the other agreed. I'm just tired of the whole place... Today it's the disappearing Horizon dairy products. Went looking for Horizon whipping cream and couldn't find it ( it's moved again) and now it's top right highest point where I had to stand on the edge of the cooler in order to get it because the only ones that remained we partially blocked by the three rows of apparently more profitable Silk product on the shelf next to it. I can always tell when a product has been killed as it moves and the stock is reduced first. I doubt the clientele is so hurting for money that they aren't buying cream. This neighborhood was (last time I checked) one of the most affluent in the state. read more

The Mayfair King Soopers used to be a wonderful place to shop. However, it is now the place I go when I am feeling lazy as it's the closest to my home. The parking lot always seems to be dirty and people just leave their carts wherever they think is best. The layout of the store is fine with decent produce, deli and other items. The security people are a joke; more than once I have seen people in there with off leash dogs, or non-service dogs sitting in carts. This King Soopers location has become my primary King Soopers and I *really* hate it. It's the most convenient grocery store for me and I can stop on the way home....I guess that at least justifies the one star rating over the preferred zero stars. Other than that. This is the absolute worst major grocery store I have ever been in the Denver area. They are usually out of, don't stock, or stock in obscure locations (and are thus unfindable) items I would buy regularly if they were in stock. FFS they were out of 16oz sour cream, rosemary, tarragon, and, as is usual, diet cherry dr pepper. Someone from King Soopers should be sincerely concerned with how this store is managed. If you can't consistently stock products that are consistently out of in low stock, how do you expect that person to deal with all the minutia that is required to manage an entire store or region. I also can't seem to find a SINGLE self-checkout person who is able to provide me instructions to scan multiples of items. I buy several 2 liters of soda almost every trip to the grocery store and one day ended up asking an obvious executive visiting why self checkout couldn't identify multiples of items scanned. This person told me it was absolutely within system capabilities. I have tried to access this "feature" several times since and have yet to find an actual ground level employee who knows how it works. This location doesn't seem to have a problem allowing signature collectors to loiter on their private property, either.Thought I admit they may not be able to prevent this effectively. Nonetheless, it always feels like a PAIN IN THE, words I don't think yelp allows you to post, to go to my primary grocery store even though that store is almost 2.5 miles away, which is the furthest I've even lived from a major grocery. Expletives are the only words I have for executives not willing to completely rebuild this location from scratch. It has to be one of their most utilized locations in Denver. And finally. I almost forgot to mention that I refuse to use the pharmacy at this location. They treat every patient like a drug addict and it always made me really uncomfortable how they essentially made me feel like I was going to a shady drug dealer every month of a daily medication I take. I now go out of my way to go to the Walgreen's across the street to avoid the a-holes HERE earning a ridiculously high income for counting pills and making their clients feel like they are trying to do something illicit. read more

Prices day 3 of the sale rang up incorrectly, and the cashier first questioned my request for correction, then blamed me for the issue, and ultimately could not correct the problem. Finally gave up and asked him to void it. Not the first time I have mentioned issues with this particular cashier and inaccurate prices to management. Apparently not interested. Going through self check isn't necessarily fast, and you need to be very aware of the prices, question them, and then wait in a second line if you expect it to be addressed at all. I live in Park Hill and have used this location for over 30 years. But can't deal with it anymore. read more

I have a love-hate relationship with this King Soopers. These are the things that I don't like: The fact that sale prices don't necessarily relate to the item that they are advertising. Seriously. The product may be marked $0.99 but its a 50/50 chance to cost $3.99 and they mis-marked it. Or they have several things listed under the sale price but only one of the items is on sale. They love mixing the organic and non-organic boxed produce in the same bin. Watch out what you grab. You will definitely notice at checkout. The produce section, on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon looks like the bathroom at Mile High, after the 4th quarter of a Broncos-Raiders game. Its off of Colfax. I like Colfax, it has its charms. But lets be honest, a lot of people like Colfax for a lot of reasons. I've seen people in their cars in the parking lot. People with the vacant look. The kind of look that makes me wonder if I need to call 911. The store has its good points, too. Decent access and the parking lot usually isn't a free-for-all, unless it is the day before a holiday. The staff are usually pretty nice and responsive. They will help you find what you need, even if they need to drop their work and go look in back. And they seem to go out of their way to help the seniors. The people who work the meat counter in the back are great; polite and always quick with a joke and a smile. The Chinese restaurant next to it is great and Mayfair Liquors has a respectable selection. This King Soopers is at the meeting point of a lot of neighborhoods and bus stops. It gets a good mix of people, I love how I hear multiple languages and see a wide range of demographics here. The fire department buys its weekend food here. That's a good sign. However, it also gets a bad mix of people. A friend of mine had her pocket book stolen out of her cart. She just turned her back. Sure, she needed to keep an eye on her important stuff. But that doesn't change the fact that people shouldn't steal things from other people in the grocery store. Its not a gourmet store. And that's good. I don't care if the chickens, cows, or pigs were happy. I just want to buy my food and check out. There you go! read more

Summary: this place used to be a disaster but they've done a great job to clean it up, and step up their game! In the past, the Krameria King Soopers location has been among the worst grocery stores Ive ever been to. I have even gone across the street ton Safeway to play 25-40% more just to avoid the headache and mess of this King Soopers. They have consistently run completely out of produce (like no garlic, no salad, no onions), rotten and bruised produce, or rotting meats. My mother in law has repeatedly insisted that we (her and I) need to file a formal complaint so that they can get their act together. But recently this store has installed all new shelving to keep the fresh produce from getting bruised and falling all over the place. In turn, it kept the produce fresher and the shopping experience more pleasant. They installed doors on some of the previously open refrigerated section, which makes a huge visual difference and have kept the store well stocked. The staff is so nice and helpful, and their displays are clean (something I can't emphasize enough for a grocery store). I give this store kudos because there has been a clear change in management's approach and it really shows. Good job guys. read more

There are several reasons why I go to this King Soopers: 1) it is just a few blocks away from my house, 2) they always seem to have everything I need, while Safeway won't, 3) there is a great liquor store in the shopping center, so I don't have to go far to fulfill all of my grocery needs, 4) the parking lot is well lit and secured 24-hours a day, 5) their prices on items I consistently buy are almost always cheaper than safeway, and 6) they stock the New York Times. That said, I think that it is a pity that the full-service check out lanes are always a long wait, forcing most shoppers to go to self checkout. read more

King Soopers is the worst grocery chain I have ever shopped at, but this particular location is truly awful. None of the produce is in the correct bins. For example, the lemons bin was full of tangerines. Also about half the produce wasn't labelled at all so there was no way to know what the prices were. Good luck asking an employee because there aren't any. They also had only one piece of grating cheese and it was a bizarre $14. Believe it or not (and you won't if you live in a city with decent grocery stores), this store was were I went after I walked out of the Safeway across the street in disgust. read more

My main grocery haunt is the Sprouts near City Park. It meets the vast majority of my sustenance requirements, but given that Sprouts focuses mostly on fresh produce and bulk staples, I occasionally need to shop at a conventional grocer for my - erm - unhealthier needs. The Safeway across the street used to fill that need, but I've been stubbornly boycotting them recently because of a bad customer service experience there. Enter King Soopers. Exit my self-respect. It's a truly special store that continually manages to disgust, offend, and generally disappoint me in every way but that somehow keeps me returning. Let's start with the first point: disgust. The store is filthy. While a remodel would mitigate this a bit, the shelves are always coated with a thin layer of dust, grime, and sadness. And while most stores might put out a floor mat by the entrance on snowy/rainy days so you don't track in a bunch of precipitation, clearly His Royal Highness the King Soopington is not concerned with such minutiae. That's not just another contributor to the grime and nastiness that pervades this location - it's also really dangerous. In addition to these Demerits of Disgust, there are some more appearance-based complaints: it's rare that I don't see an abandoned pallet (also dangerous) or a pile of empty boxes or a bunch of discarded plastic wrapping sitting in the middle of a walkway, likely forgotten or ignored by whoever was supposed to clean up that mess. Hey, "offend" is next. I admit that some employees at this store are cordial. But it never ceases to amaze me how often I am treated rudely by employees. Whether it's a deli person greeting me with "Yeah?" and acting like my simple lunch meat order is a tremendous burden or a group of employees (without any apparent task) speedwalking four-wide down the back lane of the store and knocking customers out of their way, there's always some fresh new way of being treated like crap at KS Krameria. "Generally disappoint" is the final point, and while I could simply point to the above paragraphs as enough, I have one more complaint. King Soopers' self-checkout program (which I begrudgingly use because most of the cashiers are extremely rude - surprise!) is among the worst I have ever tried. If you so much as look at the loading area funny, it locks up and helpfully states that "an attendant has been notified to assist you". At that point it's about even odds that the self-checkout attendant is present and paying attention. If not, you get to sit and wait for the person to return to the computer and unlock your register so you can *gasp* pay for your groceries. Maybe it's time to give Safeway another chance. The Good: The parking lot is actually decent. There's enough space for everyone and it's not horribly cramped like the parking lots at the stores (Sprouts, Cherry Creek Whole Foods) that I actually like. The sales are often solid as well, but you can really say that about any shire of the Kingdom, since the promotions are all set by Kroger. This has been building up for a while, so if you're not up for a long read, keep going. This is more or less my neighborhood grocery store. I've long hated Safeway (across the street) more as a chain than that particular store, so I've usually been happy to shop here. However, that might change - this King Soopers has been going downhill since I've started shopping here 3 years ago. There are good things: The parking lot is MUCH easier to get in/out of and park in than Safeway's. There's a friendly liquor store (Mayfair Liquors) that shares the parking lot, and those guys are great. King Sooper's produce is usually better than Safeway's... The bad: * This store runs out of things that I buy regularly on a regular basis - which is super annoying! It could be the english muffins, the smoothies, ritz crackers (really???...yes - last week), land-o-lakes butter, kleenex that isn't the slimy lotion kind, and today a fiber-one cereal that I like. I don't know why it's so hard to keep normal stuff on the shelves, and this current remodel has made the situation much worse (more on that later). * The employees (who mostly seemed competent when I first started shopping here) have really slowed down and don't seem to care much at all. Don't know if management has changed, but morale doesn't seem high. Getting sliced meat at the deli can take 15 minutes. Today, I followed a worker down an aisle. He was pulling a garbage can (which is why I couldn't pass) and it took 45 seconds for him to get from back to front of the store (I counted). When he finally noticed me behind him, his pace quickened considerably. Today I had an item in a locked box (razors) so I couldn't use self-checkout as I usually do. So I put my basket on the little shelf next to the clerk's scanner. She told me "that won't work" and turned my basket 90 degrees, telling me it would have fallen off (which was just silly). She made me feel that I had put the basket on the shelf "wrong" and wouldn't take my items until it was "right". I can only describe her manner (and appearance tbh) as "slightly unhinged". I decided to take my items to self checkout, so I ditched the razors for some other day (or store?). People ask me why I use self-checkout - this is a big part of it. The clerks there are slow, don't pack my groceries well, and just don't seem happy to be there. Fine, I'll do it myself, and be out in half the time. Adding to this....the self-checkout is fine most of the time. But whenever the machine stops and says "help is on the way!" I still have to flag down someone to get them to clear it. Clearly, there is an alert or beep or something that lets them know one of the scanners needs assistance. But it's obviously not loud enough, turned off, or otherwise disabled so that it's effectively useless. "Help is on the way" should be changed to "Find an employee to fix this!" * The remodel: It's taking several months. I get that the store in it's previous incarnation was a bit dated. And I know this involves moving things around during the process so it can actually happen, which makes it harder to find things. But.....was adding a Starbucks a good use of the $$ ? There's already one at the Safeway across Krameria. There's a REAL Starbucks at Colfax and Ivy, five blocks away. I don't think this was needed. I'm also noticing that the completed aisles are narrower than they used to be. Clearly they want to squeeze more "stuff" into the store, but I have my doubts as to whether two carts will actually pass each other now. I typically shop with a basket, so I don't know, but damn it feels claustrophobic in there! Compare to the Safeway across the street where the aisles are wider, better lit, and I think the ceiling is higher - just feels more open. This store has always had layout issues, but I'm not sure the remodel is helping all that much. The new spot for the carts works for entering, where the carts are on the left as you come in. But SUCKS for leaving, when (if you don't need the cart to go to the car) you have to cut across the incoming traffic to put the cart back. And the CARTS! Maybe they are going to get some new ones when the remodel is done? They have about 85% old large carts, and 15% of the newer smaller ones. But those are the ones people take first, so they're hardly ever available. And when they are, they are SO beat up, with wheels that clunk and missing parts.... It's embarrassing pushing one of those around the store! Also, I've visited many times recently when I walked in and there were NO carts in the lobby - I've see people leave and go out into the parking lot and find one to push in. (see employee issues above). I could go on - the bike rack got moved up against the building a couple years ago which means you can get maybe two bikes locked to it, and whoever shows up next is SOL. The parking lot needs a remodel as much as the store and the potholes are getting ridiculous! read more
