I'm very familiar with this, and I chuckle a bit at some massage reviews because a beneficial massage will leave you with some 'bruised' areas that were worked on - but the long term result will be in the positive. (I think some massage 'newbies' don't understand that if a massage is to be therapeutic and 'fix' you - your body will be a bit bruised in a spot or two and will take some time to 'adjusting' itself.) I'm angry because Boris just does NOT listen. I told him FIVE times that pressure in one particular part of my back was too much. And even after that he NEVER checked in with me to ask me if the pressure was now OK. He just went on and on like a robot, causing me a fair amount of pain during the massage, and I just woke up now at 4am with my left hand considerably numb! And please know that I am VERY accustomed to massage. I earned my living for 15 years in Toronto by pulling a rickshaw (you know - those 2 wheeled carts that tourists sit in, down by the CN Tower and Skydome (as it was called by then).) I'm sure I've had over 1,000 massages in the last 25 years, and MOST massage therapists react to comments by the massagee about pressure level being too much. Not Boris. He said near the end of the massage: "I was going soft." But Boris; you didn't CHECK in with your client to see if it was soft enough!! And I would NORMALLY probably love the pressure that Boris defaults to - but he started in hard and heavy despite my TRYING to explain to him that I had been to the hospital twice during the previous two weeks for a pinched nerve, and had also been for two chiropractic visits. Boris REALLY needs to learn to SLOW down and take a breath while he LISTENS to his client describe why they are there. Boris fairly clearly has years of experience doing massage before he came to Canada. His level of pressure on my other areas was good and appropriate and therapeutic, and I believe him that he had about 20 years experience doing massage before coming to Toronto - BUT - I'm now a little curious that he wasn't very clear when I asked him which massage school he studied at in Toronto. I'm familiar with the schools because I was one of the few people who got massage SO OFTEN for so long that I got special permission from the Sutherland Chan Teaching Clinic to go in every week and get two of hours of massage done back to back with students in training. So I'll just summarize by saying that Boris failed MASSIVELY to listen to his client and check that his pressure level was appropriate. It is a HUGE problem that he is just too fast at 'getting to the doing' and wants to get going and doesn't slow down enough to let his client FINISH describing their health issues, and why they are there and what work they want done, and how. They don't speak English very well, and the place is opposite from fancy, but they tried their best to give good service and it was clean. I told them I like it very strong and it was one of the few times that I actually had to ask him to be a little more gentle. He really put in a lot of effort in my massage and made sure I was comfortable. They have a variety of massage combos for cheap (ex. facial + massage, foot + body, foot + back, etc).
