The theatre I grew up with had 20 screens, and it was surrounded by a plaza of food and activities. Gladbrook theater is still the coolest movie theater I've ever been to. Ever. Yeah, I suppose you could say it's because it was novel to me. It was cute and quaint, and the fact that it only shows one movie at a time is funny... but that's not what was so cool. What's cool is that the little town in the middle of corn fields and air decided they wanted a theater, and they did it. It's run by volunteers, and it's probably only frequented by the people who live near the town, but it's awesome. The place was clean, the snacks were cheap, and the movie selection for the night I was in town was perfect. I saw Wreck It Ralph in a little theater on a cold snowy night in Gladbrook, Iowa, with my boyfriend and two other awesome guys, one of whom was wearing a Teemo hat. Pretty great memory, I should think. I do think, in fact. If you live near here and you haven't stopped by, you really should. This place is great and definitely needs to be supported.

Half of the icy machines are out of order and apparently have been for a while. The whole fountain drink area was filthy but tons of workers were around watching just one person stock candy. The bathrooms were tore up and filthy as well. The projector clearly had issues as the movie was darkening around the edges the entire time and having trouble with movements on screen. Lastly, and the worst, the theatre room itself smelled so bad upon entering. It smelled like a gym locker room. We realized quickly it was the chairs themselves. The upholstery smelled so gross. Like old sweat soaked in over years. The smell was on our clothes when we got home. We understand places theatres get dirty from customers, but this is not normal. I really hope cleanliness is improved and improvements are made. We will not return.

Reasons FilmScene is a must see: 1. Amazing new facilities with uber comfy seats. 2. Great concessions selections. Especially the craft beer and don't skip out on the popcorn! 3. Pricing is on par. 4. Movie selection is well curated and this location does often have some of the more 'mainstream' flicks. Like James Bond, Batman or Twisters. 5. The staff is passionate, professional and friendly. 6. Parking is simple, just park in the Chauncey ramp! 7. Movies in the Park! There is an outdoor series with generally family friendly flicks offered summer through fall! Overall, I feel so fortunate to have this amazing independent theater in my metro! What can you say about this gem of a theater but has not already been said? Having worked at movie…read moretheaters throughout college I can tell you that the pressure for the big movie theaters to play the biggest movies that will sell out or bring it the largest crowd is, is immense. Those theaters rarely take any kind of risk with a small movie that may or may not be the next Hollywood blockbuster. Honestly, they really are a blockbuster hit but are often really good movies that have a voice which should be heard. That is where Film Scene comes in. It fills the void created by monstrous movie theaters which are more concerned with the quality of their heated reclining seats as opposed to the quality of the movie. Now, you should know, when you go to see a movie at this theater, do not expect super comfortable seats. There are some good seats in the back of the theater but the closer you get to the screen, the worse they are, so be sure you get there early. The concession stand is reasonably priced with a good selection of candy, decent popcorn, and a wonderful selection of beer. I would also highly recommend the rooftop viewing of any movie they show. It is really awesome up there. Get some tickets, grab some popcorn, twizzlers, a cold beer, and enjoy a really good movie lovingly presented by true film lovers.

First time I went I was I felt racially discriminated against, I am a white male, the line was long at the concession stand, I was next in line after waiting my turn, an African American girl opened the next register over on the other side of the candy bins, she looked directly past me and point out an African American couple and stated to them that they were next, the couple were 4 people behind me, yet a whites were even behind them, wow, yes, I was discriminated against because I was white, I advised the manager, he seemed intimidated by the topic, I guess whites do not get racially discriminated against (BS). I was next in line, I should have been called over, as I waited my turn. Nope. The second time, yesterday, another customer was on his cell phone constantly, having a bright cell phone screen light facing the audience was too distracting, I left I told the manager, no refund, no checking the show area, just nothing, a manager that can not manage. No more. Not returning. There is another theater in Cedar Rapids, by cash will go there.
