But when the cars stop the bell birds come through loud and clear and you soak up the sun shine in joy. There's a huge parking lot to the right of the estate, easy to find a spot. There's a small kids park/playground with a swing set up. You'll find this place sort of a throw back as the guys that run this place are living true to olden day times. No modern doodads and the ladies have super long locks as they don't cut their hair with their cotton clothes. They make the bread on sight, the eggs are laid by the cluck clucks out the back so my toast and eggs were divine. The coffee is actually surprisingly good! They have small cups and big mugs for those of us that need a super hit to keep driving instead of curling up under a tree in the sunshine. There's oaken tables inside and seating outside under umbrellas out the front and a cosy outside area out the back too covered in trellis flowers and seating. There's small items that are all handmade for sale inside that I'll be going to check out soon. So if you're in the area or want to do a day trip, this is a beautiful country road drive out here with fresh air and wildlife to listen to. The cars are a watching point too. As are the bikes on good days. Lovely day trip if you want a day out.

I visited this place a week after the other so it was still vivid and fresh in my mind. They are different places ran by the same people. Even the menu items are different. But as with the Yellow Deli, the food was amazing and worth the wait. Next time I think I'll try the Ruben Sandwich that they are known for. The green drink is also done right and it was my first time having it. Will be back here again and tell all my friends about it. They also are priced quite reasonable compare to most places these days. Their pies are amazing too, don't usually go for dessert but no skipping that here.

Through picturesque Australian bush and coastal breezes, we arrived at Lakehouse Cafe for lunch. I'll be upfront: I wasn't expecting much. We noticed that most venues in the area have a weekend surcharge and Lakehouse is no different. It did cost us $2 more per person to eat here on a Saturday. Did it bother us, no? Would it bother others? I'm sure it might and hence I'm telling you about it now. There weren't many staff on duty and we were some of the last of the lunch crowd to arrive. They easily accommodated our table of 6 and we were happily sat in the corner overlooking the river. While we waited for lunch we waxed lyrical about how the space could be converted into a beautiful weekender. Their menu is part bistro / part cafe. I opted for the grilled barramundi with an Italian tomato sauce and roast kipfler potatoes. With two gluten intolerant diners, this dish was our salvation from an afternoon of regret and pain. I also took a breath expecting regret upon ordering a flat white here but surprisingly it was quite a satisfying cup of coffee. Less foam than others but this was actually perfect for me. A definite winning selection amongst our group and a venue I'd gladly return to for a casual, slow-paced and indulgent holiday meal.

The menu was primarily seafood, also not a surprise. I decided to order a salad, not really in the mood for seafood. There was roast cauliflower, steak, chicken Parmesan, and various pizzas in addition to fishy dishes. The place was also packed, so I was glad we got an outside table. I thought my salad was delicious. It had fennel and Parmesan cheese shavings over the greens. I don't know what the greens were, but everything went well together and it was a generous portion. I had second thoughts about salad when I saw the amazingly presented entrees my dining companions had selected. After starting out with a beautiful Bloody Mary, my daughter-in-law had a crumbed dory burger with chips(fries in the States). It had two fish patties coated in herbed crumbs and she said she almost always ordered it, it was so good. It looked delicious but I stuck with my salad. My son had beer-battered flathead fish and chips. It was perfect with crunchy, lightly browned coating covering flakey white fish. I snagged a few of his fries which were also perfect. Prices in restaurants are always higher than in the U.S., but how likely are we to find fish like dory or flathead on the menu? Additionally, waitstaff in Australia are paid a living wage and don't rely on tips.
