This is the second time I have been here. I love to cook, and I cook a lot of Asian dishes. I have been able to find everything I need at Kings, and will be here fairly often. I was wanting ingredients to make some real Hot & Sour soup... so got woods ear fungus, and lily flowers. Have everything else I needed at home. Also got some walnut cookies, as I love them. I had been going to the Asian market across from MOC and decided to try somewhere closer to me. I was impressed at how clean it smelled, the organization of products and clear pricing in the store. I was able to find everything I needed plus the delicious almond cookies that I hadn't had in years! My go to market for some Portland goods!!! They carry fresh fried tofu from Bui's tofu in Portland. Fresh Japanese style milk bread from An Xuyen bakery in Portland. My kids have enjoyed their selection of Asian candies and treats. I recently saw on our foodie page that they also have the infamous Dubai Chocolate bars. Parking is very easy and you get VIP parking. Right in front of the store. Love that they reuse small boxes so you can easily take your groceries to the car. Coming from the SF Bay Area, I wanted to checkout the Asian grocery scene in Eugene for my future visits. This is definitely a small mom and pop shop that offers a variety of Asian products. Similar to shops in San Francisco, the aisles here are narrow too. The shelves packed with Asian goods--Thai, Chinese, Japanese Filipino products. They also carry a good selection of dried noodles as well as fresh produce. I was able to buy fresh jackfruit (which I love eating) and price was comparable to SF. This is not jackfruit season, but was curious enough to buy. I was surprised to see that they sold traditional Chinese paper offerings, ancestor hell money and joss sticks honoring the dead. I immediately recognized the dialect they were speaking and I immediately felt comfortable conversing with the woman behind the counter. Overall, it's a decent place to shop for Asian products...if you are in the area. Note that it is old and a little run down. read more

I wish they had more boba options, but I love the couple they have. Excellent, friendly service if you are patient. I asked for soy sauce and the female owner pointed to the aisle. After reading the other reviews, I was worried she might be unpleasant, but a few minutes later, after handling the other customers checking out, she asked what I was looking for. She was a bit nervous, but once I showed her a picture of the soy sauce I had been using for years, she remarked that it was Japanese and expensive, then said what she would get: this is what I want to hear. She pointed me to a low sodium sauce a in bottle with a green label that is amazing. I said, "low sodium." She said" Yes! I'm old, I can't do too much salt." I said, "Less salt, more flavor!" and she agreed. I've been back to buy several bottles to give away and thanked her profusely every time, so we are quite friendly now. She has great taste and will immediately give advice on what to buy, commenting if I pick a sauce or fruit that she likes. I've seen her answer questions and give advice every time I've been in; no attitude. The fruit in the back is great. I bought two types of pears and she was careful to let me know they cost different amounts before checking out. I have her on the lookout for some specialty tropical fruit, but she refuses to order any that isn't top quality so she is waiting for later in the season. When looking at the other reviews, I try to remember that working in food service was difficult, but after talking to people in grocery, I realized that it is often even more difficult and frustrating. I read some other reviews, comparing markets here in Eugene to Fubon in Portland. I like Fubon, and I like King's. I came prepared to find the ingredients for making hot and sour soup, having watched YouTube vids and also downloaded a glossary of terms. At the end of my searching, I was unable to find one ingredient -- and the woman behind the counter was helpful, despite being quite busy. I talked with her as I checked out, and she was friendly -- I will definitely be back, as I expand my skills with Asian cooking. If the soup turns out well, I may bring her some! read more

First off, anyone that's left a review based on the smell or "rude" customer service has never been to an authentic Asian market. I think that it's common for individuals to believe that a customer service experience is negative when there's a language barrier and there's no effort to communicate kindly involved. Food for thought: if you try hard enough to hold a decent conversation with the staff here, you might have a better experience. I'm from San Diego, CA and I was ecstatic to find an Asian market that reminded me of home. King's is a mom and pop shop ran by such a kind owner. I swung by after a long day just because I was in the area and was able to grab kitchen staples such as Pho broth, your regular shmegular snacks such as Hello Panda and Yan Yan biscuits, and even bok choy at a reasonable price. I'm glad that I won't have to ask my friends and family to express ship items from home. I will be coming regularly while I'm at UO. read more

I only go to King's if Sunrise is closed. The differences between the two stores are service and freshness. At Sunrise, I get friendly service and their produce is more fresh, especially their herbs. When I can't find something, they walk with me to show where it is. The store is clean and organized. The older male store owner is friendly and helpful. The gentleman of Hispanic decent with the moustache who usually is stocking the shelves smiles everytime he helps me locate stuff. I love that guy! The cashiers are friendly too! King's is the opposite. The service is rude and abrupt, especially from the female owner. When I asked for help llto find an item, the usual aggressive response is "over there!" The same area where I just came from and couldn't find what I was looking for. Today, when she rang me up at the cash register, I asked her if I could slide my card instead of her doing it. I wanted to reduce the risk of COVID-19. She seemed upset having to move the credit card machine about 6 inches. I was about to slide my card and she angrily shouts, "Insert chip NOT slide." She then touches my credit card after I inserted it. The wilting herbs often have decomposing parts. The store is unsanitary with dirty storage racks and containers laying in various corners. I'm disappointed in myself that I didn't review this place while they were still open. I love shopping here. Last year I decided to teach myself how to cook a few Japanese dishes and this is the market I visited often to get the ingredients. I loved shopping here. I just wanted to try all of the different flavors and foods that were unique to me. I sometimes would splurge on a bunch of different snack foods and then have a tasting party with my friends. I loved getting my miso, kombu, and bonito flakes here to make miso soup at home. All these ingredients are way over priced in regular grocery stores so it just adds an additional ping to the heart that they are not currently open. I really hope they return after the COVID closures subsides. I really miss them. read more

I don't know if this place is in business still or not but my daughter and I went there a month ago because she just had to try these new dishes she saw on Tik Tok. Me thinking we have nothing else to do I was all for it. We walked in and the place was very dark and looked outdated. I was actually scared to purchase anything. I let my daughter get what she wanted and I grabbed a Boba drink from their fridge. The lady working there wasn't to friendly and she wasn't helpful when we were searching for a certain type of candy. Needless to say the drink I bought made me sick and my daughter didn't even eat a third of anything she just had to have. read more

This market is closer to me than the other ones in town. I go here once in a blue moon when I want to make lumpia's. Most grocery stores do not carry the skin unless I want them to turn out like egg rolls. I wish they carried sambal badjak, instead of the plain pepper sambal. I have to either order that online, go across town, or out of town to find it. I like using the sambal badjak when making Indonesian food, or Chinese. read more

It is too bad the health department for this county is lane even if we complain to them, they're not going to do anything about it. Again, what the hell is wrong with that pissed off woman? Owner couldn't be more rude. I'm not sure why anyone would shop here. I've always thought they were rude but gave them a pass and shopped at the little mom and pop store because they have things I can't get a regular grocery store and I like to support the local small businesses. I recently purchased rice noodles. When I got home to cook them, they had mold on them. Since, I don't live close to the store, I assumed I could return them next time I was in the area. Mean lady said "absolutely not! I should've brought them back immediately" I told her that I'm not that desperate for free noodles that I would want to scam them out if a pack of $3.00 noodles and that it was inconvenient to drive so far for a pack of noodles. Can we just talk about the elephant in the room here? It smells so unbearably horrible in this store. I can barely make it a few steps in. And it is filthy. There is piles of dirt in every corner and like old used rags laying around. I understand Asian food smells different but this is beyond anything I've ever experienced. I wouldn't trust eating anything from this place because if they are openly this dirty in the front of the store, imagine what goes on in the back. read more

I find most "Asian markets" to be similar. They have a great deal of products but no one goes into Japanese products. King's has a ton of choices of all kinds of canned goods, teas, soy sauces, noodles, Rice's etc. So if that's what you need this is a good spot to go to! They also have a small grocery refrigerated type area that was not very well stocked..maybe I hit it on an off day.... but they had some nice green veggies and Japanese eggplant. Kings also has some frozen items but this is not. A huge store so take that into consideration. But you can find some nice sushi rice, good pickled ginger, soy sauce and some yummy garlic sauces. It's worth a quick stop. Not a lot of sales staff so don't rely on their help except when your ready to pay. read more

I was able to find everything I needed without getting the stink-eye! The prices, in my opinion, were pretty good (better than what I paid in Reno)! Their produce was amazing, too! Good quality, and properly stored. Tons of seafood choices, as well. Now, I know that Asian Markets can be a bit intimidating (more stuff crammed together in a tiny space, dirtier than what we're used to) when you're not used to that type of thing, but after shopping regularly with my "from-China-Chinese-Mother-In-Law", I've learned what one should look for in an Asian Market. The big thing is items being marked with actual prices. I hate to say it, but Asian Markets will often try and cheat "white" clientele, but when the prices are marked on the item you're purchasing there's no way to do that. I haven't been to any of the other markets in town, and I will go to them, but so far I'm totally ok with this place! The whole shrimp I got here have been fantastic so far, and the produce has lasted over a week (I purchased several types of Chinese greens) wich bodes well for the freshness of their goods. read more

They have quite a few frozen items - noticed "halo-halu popsicles." There's an aisle of bowls and other ceramic and plastic items. Lots of Vietnamese and Chinese foods, plus a scattering of items from Korea, Japan, etc.... They have balut, salted eggs, 1000-yr. old eggs. Lots of pasta - rice noodles, sweet potato noodles, etc... We love this store. The owners are very helpful and friendly. Prices are reasonable and selection is great. There is an entire section in the back full of frozen meat, mochi ice cream, steam buns, takoyaki, squid, fish, and other things. We usually spend about fifty every time we go. And we think it's worth the price. They have ramen, yakisoba, udon, rice, and Asian spaghetti noodles. Twelve flavors of ramune, and other drinks. Wide selection of candy and snacks. They had a great selection, especially with their rice. My favorite food is the imported candy though, the vanilla and green tea filled bears are my favorite.
