I needed a new wok and decided to try this Asian Grocery to see if I could find a good one. I picked this one because it was easy to get to off of a freeway. The store front looks new, in a nice area and they have a parking behind the store which is helpful if there is no street parking open. I called the store to see if they carried woks and the person was nice to tell me they did and the price range. When I went up to check out, the lady at the front desk was so nice when I asked her opinion on the wok. It's nice to get another opinion when you can't read what's on the label. But, the company has been in business since 1628 so I'm sure they have the experience to make a good pan. Inside is a bright large store with a good number of aisles of products, fresh produce, frozen foods, cooking items and live seafood. You could, seriously, spend an hour or more looking at all the items. The shelves are clean and the items look good!! The aisles are wide and brightly lit. They had products for Chinese, Japanese, Thai, Korean and Philippine cooking, as far as I saw. They have shopping carts and cute small ones for kids. I wasn't here for much so took a hand basket. Big mistake. Picking up a sauce here and 7lbs of rice there and my basket was getting heavy. So, went to check out. I felt the prices were good. And, they were kind enough to pack it all in a cardboard box which made it easy to carry out. The items I've tried have been good quality and tasty. I definitely recommend and, even though I just went today, I have a running list of things I forgot and want to get next time. read more

This place is the place if you're looking for anything Asian-Pocky, Buldak noodles, hot pot supplies, ice cream, anything red bean/matcha/taro....all of those flavors. I tried the buns and I got good checkout service, but the steamed buns retain a dough-y texture. Not bad, but not my personal fave. The fillings weren't bad. I liked the flavor of the canned bubble tea, but with every canned bubble tea I've had, the bubble part is not the best. I found some things here that I have been looking for that I was unable to find it any other Asian market in Eugene, including Meiji chocolate bars and slotted spoons for hot pot. It smells good and there are live crabs in the back which was a delight for a small child who I saw there. On the downside, the place was very cold in terms of temperature, and the cashier didn't really acknowledge or speak to me while ringing me up which felt weird. read more

Wow...walking around the area, I came across this newish Asian Market. I never really noticed it before. What a nice addition to downtown. It's bright & clean--the aisles are clear, unlike the markets in SF, aren't stacked with boxes of products that don't fit in the shelves. When I asked if they sold a particular item, the person was very helpful. It had rows and rows of familiar Asian products, frozen, packaged ramen, snacks and fresh produce. I saw a lot of variety--Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Thai items. They also sell cookware (claypot anyone?) and a variety of utensils. They have limited deli items, like pork buns & pork cha-shu near the front counter. They have paid parking behind the store--I'm not sure if that applies to shoppers or if it's a general parking lot. read more

Ambiance 0/10. The store was freezing cold and their only explanation was that there were so many coolers in the store. It made for a brief, uncomfortable shopping experience and I will not go back nor will I recommend it. If you want to keep customers turn up your heat. Food 2/10. The bao buns had so much dough and very little filling while the cooked pork has an odd taste. Service 2/10. No warmth and curt checkout person. Really nicely priced frozen stramable buns, lots of noodle cups and noodle types available. Accepts EBT! I spent quite a bit of time here. They have little wheeled carts you can use, and they packed my things in a little box that use to hold sodas. There are some vegan options if you make sure to read the packaging- I found some red bean, taro, and green tea small shelf stable mochi balls that were vegan friendly (I like them in the fridge though) They also have chopsticks, bowls, etc in the back corner and some figurines around. LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE! Everytime I come here I slowly go through every aisle thinking about what I want, what I have not tried before, what is the most unique flavor. It's nearly impossible to walk out of here with only one item. From the mochi to the ramen to the bubble teas, I want it all. I do have to avert my eyes away from the seafood tanks in the back as seeing them stuffed full of fish and shellfish makes my heart sad. Nevertheless, everytime I am in the downtown area I make it my mission to make a quick stop here before heading home. read more

We lived to live in the Sacramento California area where Asian grocery stores are plentiful. Since moving to Oregon, we've had a hard time finding our usual groceries. Eugene Asian Market has almost everything on my wife's list. They had Thai Sweet Rice, our favorite brand fish sauce and oyster sauce and many other well priced items. The only thing they didn't have was pork roll. This store will be our go to store for Asian groceries. It's very clean and they have very friendly and competent employees. read more

Great store! Walked in with a shopping list to make coconut curry soup. Got all the bottles and cans that I needed. The produce selection was good, but lacking (green onions and smaller quantities of ginger). Prices were comparable to elsewhere in town. I really wanted to like this place. I went there this week spent a lot of money and bought a lot of items. I tried to eat the food and everything I bought I had to throw away in the garbage. Their food items I bought were very, very, old, stale, black in color outdated and just tasted nasty. Seems like they sell things beyond their shelf life. Even the vegetables were old and tasted horrible when I cooked them. I had to throw those away too. I will never be back. I think food inspectors need to be inspecting these Asian grocery stores regularly. I refused to eat the food I bought for fear of getting ill. read more

Staff was nice and helpful, selection seemed good, veggies fresh. Somewhat dark and uninspiring for me, but with the space given, they have it stocked well. Pulled up, graffiti on the base wall and big iron gates in place, I wasn't exactly sure of where the entrance was. A sign would be nice. There is parking on the side which was great. Would have been nice to have posted somewhere that any purchase under 10$ on a debit card, you are charged .50 cents. (So for small purchase, bring cash) I would have possibly bought something additional for fun but it caught me off guard at the counter, wasn't going to go back to make up the few dollars. read more

Eh, Small spot with more snacks than "real" food, but hey, i love me some snacks, so im cool with that. Prices are....ok. Like other grocery stores, you can compare the EAM to Sunrise and notice that some things are cheaper, some things more, and some things are priced exactly the same; leaning towards things costing a little more here at this spot. I dont have a whole lot to say about this spot, but id say go check em out, grab a funky drink and snack and getcha munch on! One thing i couldnt help but notice (or feel) was, despite the many CCTV cameras theyve got the store laced with, i swear that dude was following me around like i was gunna steal his friggin can of red beans! First of all, if i was gunna steal anything at all; it surely wouldnt be red beans and soba noodles! Second, if i was gunna steal anything...ohhhh nevermind. Ill go back, but seriously, if the (otherwise friendly) guy "profiles" me and my baggy pants, and i feel like he's following me around the store, im gunna take my dollars elsewhere. The market is great! Has a lot of ingredients and foods you'd need but everything is really pricey. I'm from Beaverton, and I've been to multiple asian markets in Beaverton and SE Portland and the prices are decent and understandable but coming to Eugene for school and comparing the prices, this is much expensiver. Shop is small, workers are just workers, everything is neat and clean, only thing that sucks its how pricey it is. A new Asian market in Eugene? Cool. If only we could get a dim sum joint...sigh. This market is shiny and new. It's small, maybe 1/4 the size of Sunrise, but it's downtown and drawing the college crowd. They have produce and frozen cases. I was thrilled to find a decent bag of frozen turnip cakes - haven't been able to find that anyplace else. They also had some sauces I've been looking for and a nice selection of ramen. Decent prices. Can't tell what their angle will be yet but they sell a lot of beer and snacks and I think that will sustain them as they grow, considering the location. I probably will stick with Sunrise for most of my purchases but it's fun trying someplace new. I'll definitely be back. read more

I honestly don't understand why this place has such negative reviews. Yes, it's small but it still carries all the staples needed in Asian cooking. Clearly no one else is interested in Asian staples. I find this place to be one of my favorite Asian markets here in Eugene. All the others I've frequented are either way too overpriced or the produce is disgustingly not fresh (yes, I'm talking about you, Sunrise Asian Market). I've honestly never had a bad experience here. Cashiers are always really friendly and will try their best to answer your questions despite my inability in speaking Chinese. I do admit that their produce section is quite limited, but honestly most American grocery stores carry Asian produce now. And all produce they do carry is surprisingly fresh-- I've had a pretty bad experience with other Asian grocery stores so this one definitely trumps the rest. I usually come here to pick up Asian spices, condiments, etc. They also have a huge selection of ramens for students which is an added bonus! Really, don't believe the negative reviews here. Our family enjoys shopping at this small "Mom & Pop" neighborhood Asian grocery store. It has all of the basics, plus a surprising amount of variety, & seasonal items. Everything is good quality & fresh. Just the right amount of snacks & treats too! It's not crowded, so it's convenient to get in & out if we're in a hurry. They also have some different items that *the bigger Asian grocery store in town* doesn't--so we go to both. The Chinese family who owns it is so nice! They are the primary reason we like to shop there. The wife/cashier is warm & friendly, & insists on slipping a little extra treat in with our groceries, even when we say, "No, no, no, you don't need to give us something for free!" She just smiles & puts it in the box. Maybe because we spend a certain amount, or perhaps it's a promotional item, or it's close to its expiration date-? Whatever the reason, it's a fun bonus. The husband is always quietly busy, but if we ask where something is, he instantly drops whatever he's doing & walks us right to the correct aisle to show us. Their kids are adorable! My young adult kids were particularly delighted with them one day a couple of years ago. The little boy said to my then 24 year old son, "Hey, you kind of look like me!" He replied, "Well, we have similar haircuts AND we're both Asian! I'm Japanese American."The boy thought a moment, "I'm...Chinese...& English!" My kids explained, "You *speak* Chinese & English, but you ARE Chinese AMERICAN. Also, you're Asian American, just like us!" They pointed at his sister, "And you are too!" And they happily hopped up & down, "We're Chinese American!" It was such a funny, sweet moment. When you shop at a small family-owned business, you know where your money goes--you're supporting a family. This place totally weird ! Bad bad bad experience First visit- looking for water spinach (on choy) they dont have it and the woman answer it all rude. I was just standing at the door and imediately walk back outside felt uncomfortable. Second visit-decided to take my daughter to shop. Nothing interesting in there Almost all tags written in chinese (like everybody understand that) Most of the items are snacks But i got some items that i like to buy. The cashier woman yell at my 4yo daughter that dancing around too close to her wine bottles rack (which is oddly placed on the very bottom of the shelf) saying that she's gonna brake her wine bottles. I said sorry but then she gave me this evil look. Already dont wanna pay for my items but i walk to the cash register anyway. After she count my items she said $10 minimum for visa card and my total credit was $9.27 she didnt even gave me solution to make it even by buying more stuff..she just repeated my total balance with her eyes almost popped out from her face. (Yeah like i want to buy more stuff from this store) Said i dont have cash and sorry She cuss me out with her language as I walk away from the store.(I know u cuss at me lady! This is a primarily a Chinese market. They stock some Chinese ingredients that are difficult or impossible to find elsewhere in Eugene. They have Sichuan peppercorns that are fresh enough to produce a numbing/tingly effect in your mouth, while most of the other Asian markets have peppercorns that have been sitting on the shelf way too long. They also have suimi yacai in case you want to make dan dan noodles; I haven't seen that anywhere else in Eugene. read more
