I love sunrise. Biggest Asian market in eugene. Good food and super wide selection of items in the fresh, dry, and frozen chests.

I have to say that this market came with rave reviews by many. And I always prefer to support local. I was excited to have found many of the items I was looking for. They were a little pricier compared to what I'm used to paying, but I figured it was fair because, we in Eugene do not have easy access to a lot of items that are found in our local chain grocery stores. I came across the produce section and was excited to find 2 bags of taro leaves (we call it luau leaves back home). The two packages they had, looked like it had smaller leaves than I preferred, but looked really fresh. I was planning on surprising my family by making palusami since I only had 2 bags and didn't have enough for make laulau. I had all of my ingredients laid out and ready. Imagine my surprise and disappointment when I opened the taro leaf packages and found that inside the nice and fresh leaf, were small, wilted, yellow, brown spotted, broken and ripped with holes taro leaves! These are basically the leaves that a grocery store should not be selling and instead, they decided to deceive their customer by wrapping those leaves with a nice, fresh one on the outside. I felt so disappointed in this store! I'm from the island, I know my taro leaves. If they did this purposely thinking other people will not notice, shame on the store. I know many have raved about the produce here, and I hope that this is a fluke. I will try again in a couple of weeks. If I get similar results, I will need to talk to the owner about getting a better vendor. Or i'll just order it from back home and pay that shipping charge. read more

Nice Asian market! I was able to find everything I needed for cooking (and covered about 6 different Asian cuisines, since I love it) Pretty easy to find stuff, since it is well laid out. I did have to ask for help to find a few things (whole Anise, Kiramochi, and chili bamboo shoots) just because I did not see them... but the helpful staff member knew right where they were! :) ) Highly recommended! read more

Been going here for many years and absolutely love it. They have a great selection of food, particularly those difficult or even impossible to find at mainstream grocery stores, including beer, wine, and sake. Their produce is always fresh, their deli is absolutely amazing, and they are affordably priced; try their homemade kimchi, it's really really solid. Service has always been amazing, and it's great to see that they have long time employees, too. They're always friendly and more than happy to answer any of your questions! I was looking for some ramen noodle brands for a while that I wanted to try, and couldn't find elsewhere. I had tried the Carbonara flavor (creamy and spicy), but wanted to try Quattro Cheese and Cream Carbonara - and they had it. I also added Cheese flavor as a wild card, and I added Chapagetti to the list as well (I had already tried Neoguri, and it's a spicy, seafood tasting ramen). Good service. I was so pleasantly surprised to find this Asian grocery store here in Eugene! It truly feels like a hidden gem -- they have everything you could want for Asian cooking: fresh produce, sauces, noodles, snacks, frozen foods, even specialty items you'd usually only find in bigger cities. I really appreciate how well stocked and organized the store is -- you can tell they care about providing for a niche market that many of us in Eugene really value. The prices are very reasonable, especially considering the variety and authenticity of the products. Sunrise is such a great Asian market! They have a huge variety of items like frozen dumplings, vegetables, ramen, ceramic bowls, tea pots, and so much more. Employees are very friendly. Visiting from the San Francisco Bay Area, I was in search of Asian Markets in Eugene for my Asian shopping needs. There are 3 that I could find in town and this one in particular offered an extensive selection of Asian products including but not limited to Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Thai, Filipino, Indian, Indo-Chinese. From the sauces and seasonings to rice and ramen, living ware, cookware, tea pots, even a taiyaki pan, fresh Asian produce, tofu and there was no shortage of snacks!! They carry many popular Asian snacks--shrimp crackers, honey butter chips, rice crackers, wafers cookies, choco pies, salted egg chips, etc. Just like home! Surprisingly they also had a good selection of Hawaiian products--Aloha shoyu, Hawaiian Sun, manapua, etc. At the back of the store there is a deli and you can order meals to go (the sign indicates "made to order") ranging from fried rice, noodles, bulgogi, stir-fry, teriyaki. Right next to the deli is a refrigerated section where you can buy different kinds of kimchi and Thai curry simmer sauces. The store is brightly lit, shelves are well stocked and the front-end staff is friendly. While this visit exceeded my expectations, keep in mind this is not on the same level as HMart or Ranch 99 supermarkets. It was surprising to find such a wide variety of Asian products 500+ miles away from San Francisco and I now have the option for me to purchase locally instead of sending it to my son or hand carrying. read more

I'm spoiled, being from Southern California, where Asian groceries abound. But if I need to restock and I'm in Eugene, there is nothing wrong with the selection at Sunrise Market. They had everything we needed (my son is here attending college, we needed to restock his supplies), the prices are reasonable, and the deli has some good offerings. Worth a visit if you need Asian fare for cooking / snacking / plain ol' food. read more

Lots of dry goods. I was hoping for more green vegetables. Stopped by the deli section on Sun., and they don't cook to order. They some prepped items, so I ordered a spinach pork bun. Seems like a good selection but I come for ingredients for Filipino and Polynesian dishes. They have the very basics but that's it (in regards to the two). However the produce didn't seem too fresh especially the yams. Based on my wants I gave it 3 stars but there's plenty of other good looking food/selections. Just not what I was hoping for. read more

Sunrise Asian Food Market was a nice find while spending some time in Eugene. While not a huge Asian store, they are packed to the brim with a nice variety of products. I called ahead, they answered the phone quickly, were friendly and had exactly what I needed...Shaoxing rice wine. I did a quick spin through the store and also found: - A 100 count box of Maxim Mocha Gold Coffee (sometimes I just want a fast cup and don't have the time to French Press). - S&B Golden Curry (great for a quick spicy vegetable curry over steamed rice. - Fukujinzuke (seasoned vegetables) which is the mandatory (at least in my book) cold, crunchy, sweet & savory vegetable relish that must accompany Japanese Curry. This is probably the largest Asian Grocery in the Eugene/Springfield area, so if you are in need, this is the place! read more

Selection is wonderful found everything I needed, but I don't recommend the hot ready to eat goods, got a small thing of Kimbap the rice was old, even though the date said made the same day it was bad, also got tako yaki and it was not pleasant, the dough was undercooked and mushy in the inside. read more

Because Bend has no good Asian markets (actually none, really), I have to travel over the hill to hit one up. I usually go to Portland but this time I was in Eugene on other errands. I don't know if Sunrise is the best one in Eugene but a few people recommended it. Unlike, say, a Super H Mart, Sunrise is pretty small but still packs a lot of goods into the space. Forget social distancing here - the aisles are tight and narrow. - Produce section is very limited. I was looking for gai lan in particular. Nada, although they did have something similar. This is probably the biggest negative. - Decent dry goods sections - canned goods, sauces, rice, noodles, all the stuff you expect. - Decent frozen section. - Weirdly, I could not find a normal-sized wok spatula, only the larger industrial size. I break mine every couple of years or so from over-use so I wanted a backup. Nope. Didn't see any of the traditional steel woks either, although i wasn't looking to buy one. Overall, A-OK. But Eugene is big enough for an Asian mega-mart. read more

So my girlfriend is black, and most times I check out at Sunrise with her we get a weird attitude from the cashier. Tonight my girlfriend went alone and they didn't accept her ID when she went to buy Sake. The checker was giving her uncomfortable looks, mumbling about her ID being fake, and treated her pretty rudely overall. So I had to drive her passport in to the store so we could get Sake for dinner tonight. When the lady saw us in line, she called another checker to help us instead of it being her. The other checker gladly accepted my girlfriends ID. I can't help but be angered by a sense of discrimination and the differential treatment my girlfriend has gotten at this store. Great products at the store, just racist vibes. read more

Delightful shopping experience in a well stocked and reasonably priced store. Particularly enjoyed the selection of hot pot meats, the lotus root, and the wide variety of tofu (including Portland local Ota tofu). So many Delightful sauces, too! read more

If this place doesn't have it you don't need it! My daughter moved to Eugene from California, thinking she would never be able to find everything she needed to cook her favorite dishes. Great variety of exotic spices that are hard to find anywhere else. They really know what to stock! I have found many of my favorite products here, and at a reasonable price! I got lost in the aisles because there was so much goodness to choose from. Thankfully, one of the employees, Kelley K. (spelling?) was extremely helpful and was able to guide me to the products I craved. We shared some of our favorite foods, and she introduced me to a wonderful product called "Indo Mie," which is an Indonesian brand of instant noodles. She suggested the Special Chicken, Chicken Curry (pictured), and the Mie Goreng (white package) flavors as ones to try, and I loved all of them! I'm so thankful to her for introducing me to the products. This is what customer service should be like! Personal, real, and relaxed! I didn't realize they closed at 5 and I ended up not having much time there. But they have a lot of things, more than we have here in Corvallis. However the aisles are very narrow. They have mini shopping carts, and one of them almost takes up the whole aisle. It's hard to squeeze by. There were a lot of people there on this Saturday evening, so just trying to see what all they had was difficult. I didn't manage to see it all. I will go back some time when they are not likely to be busy. I left with fresh Thai chilies, gai lan, some sushi nori, an Indian peanut snack, some hing (asafetida) and some harissa. I should start this review by saying that it absolutely pains me to leave a negative review for this store. I've shopped at Sunrise for over a decade and I truly love the place. Their selection is the best in Eugene, and I've never had any problems there, even during the pandemic. Until today. I went shopping today and an employee who was stocking the shelves was absolutely HACKING away. Not like he had allergies - like he was very sick. Coughing and spluttering and sniffling. Y'all, there is literally a pandemic. Absolutely NO ONE should be coming in to work sick right now, and the onus for that ends up being on the store management. If your employee comes in sick, you send them home. No ifs, ands, or buts about it. Cases are rising again, the county is in the "extreme" risk category, and you have an employee who is coughing and very obviously sick working in your store? That's unacceptable. I have shopped at Sunrise without incident throughout the pandemic, but after this experience I'm not sure that I'm going to be comfortable coming back for quite some time. It's unfortunate, because I really do love this store. But I have immunosuppressed family members and absolutely cannot condone a store taking inappropriate risks and endangering their customers and other employees. I was in the mood to make lumpia the other day, and my friend suggested I get my wrappers from Sunrise instead of the other store I have gone to. I am glad he made the suggestion because, this store is cleaner, and more organized. They also seem to have more of a selection. Years ago I used to get all of my needs at the Dutch, Indonesian store in Beaverton until they shut down, so I am happy to have found some of the things I needed here so that I didn't have to order online. One of the products being sambal badjak, typically used in Indonesian dishes. The prices were decent, and I will definitely be coming back for more great products. The staff was very friendly, and helpful which my friend who made the suggestion told me they would be. I bought some new sauces I am not used to cooking with to try out. I can't wait. read more

When I asked the owner if this was the largest market in the area he replied it was the oldest and listed all the perks to his market. Although they didn't find the one item I was looking for they have 1 had been searching for, for 3 years. The staff are all extremely friendly and kind to patrons as well as to each other. When there was only one item still in stock 30 minutes before closing the owner, learning we were coast visitors took the time to search the back for our desired product. The store was clean, produce was fresh and owner ensured all many counties were represented. I could easy make most of my staple meals here. The deli was excellent and really clean too. They also carried 3 types of kimchee. The pup and I don't care what anyone else in town says this is our market. Customer service goes a long way. There are not a lot of markets with good Asian produce, foods, spices, etc. around Eugene so I'm glad I found Sunrise!! They have a wide variety of literally everything. I personally love their instant noodle section because I feel like they get new brands and flavors often. Their homemade kimchee is also a favorite of mines and I use it often to cook kimchee pork. I also like how it's a family run business and all the employees are very helpful and kind. There's this one cashier, I believe her name is kelly, who is very efficient and obviously knows what's going on. She was very friendly and knew exactly where everything was when I asked her. This place is like a candy shop! So many good things as soon as you step inside! They have all the Asian foods you can imagine and more! Some stuff is pretty pricey, but I'm sure it's due to exporting. The quality of their goods is excellent and they have foods you look for but can't find anywhere else! The employees were so kind and very helpful. I love coming by here to get some spices and noodles. It's a one-of-a-kind store and definitely a place to stop in and shop for a bit!
