This is simply the best studio in the valley if you want to learn Taekwondo. Not only is this studio known for its great instructors, but these instructors are national team athletes, members, and world athletes. Master Luis Reyes is renowned as the most seniored member still currently on the US National Team. He has many achievements, and is one of the nicest people you will ever meet. The school sets itself apart in that it is very social. It has it's own PSA board (which in fact is only 100% successful, raising money to buy things such as electronic scoring, computers, remodeling, etc) There are regular classes that offer instruction from age 4 and all the way until you've reached the age where you can't get up and drive to the studio anymore. In addition to regular classes where you will learn to break boards with confidence, and self defense techniques that will help you protect yourself outside of the studio, there are specialized classes where you can even progress further. The biggest specialized class is the fighting team, which is a branch and one of the founders of Team Progression (national affiliate team). The fighting team consists of dedicated athletes that train 3-4 times per week to one day make it to the olympics. And with such an accomplished instructor, I wouldn't be surprised to see that happen. There are already Jr. National and National Champs on the team. The team travels to local tournaments on a frequent basis, and distant locations for the bigger more recognizable tournaments, so there's always something to train for. (The workout will keep you as fit as can be!) The next specialized class is the forms team. Ever see those pretty forms in those martial arts movies where elegance and concentration is key, which in turn blossoms a beautiful routine? Well, this class works on that. The class is run by nationally accomplished competitors and are very knowledgeable in all aspects of making the art look beautiful, crisp, and refined. At most sparring tournaments, there is a forms tournament held simultaneously. Prerequisites are required to make it onto these specialized teams, so you must take regular class first and show that you are at least dedicated in either forms or sparring. For the toddlers, (ages 4-6) the Tiny Kix Program is great. Techniques are integrated into the young minds of these mini monsters and stay there under the instruction I we'll seasoned instructors. Each class ends with a fun game, that gives the tot time to take a break from concentrating so hard, but at the same time applies standard basics into the childs development in martial arts. Private lessons are available at extra cost that put you one on one with any instructor of your choice at any preferred time before regular class begins. This is where you go to work on something that you are having trouble on, and can't quite fix during regular class. I recommend you stop by Kings Taekwondo, which is not only another martial arts studio, but a family. Holiday parties and birthday parties are held frequently, parents get to know each other, and new friends are made all the time. If you ever stop by and want to have a word with Master Luis, or any of the instructors or assistant instructors, including myself, stop by whenever and we'll be glad to give you all the information you need. New location south side of Lassen Ave, West side of Mason Ave. Stop by and say hello. They don't bite.

Brazilian JJ class with sir Luis Reyes & Mike zeballos

Sir Luis is a black belt in taekwondo, Brazilian jiu jitsu, and also experienced in Muay Thai. He trains high level taekwondo competitors, and amateur Muay Thai fighters. He himself still competes to this day in Muay Thai against competition half his age. Great instructor, very patient and caring coach. He sits down his fight teams after class and analysis in group form errors made and compliments those in advancement, then tries to fix issues the next training session. Very analytic coach which genuinely cares about his stable of fighters. His gym carries some top notch trainers of the likes of Shawn Yacoubian, Rick okaine Muay Thai instructors. Jay & Mike zeballos both BJJ black belts (including sir Luis) and a purple belt, Alejandro Perez. All which are great coaches. Top notch gym for learning different combat martial arts for kids or adults, amateur or pro, for hobby or to lose weight.

Master Luis Reyes is not only the nicest Bad A** but he is one of the humblest, knowledgeable and patient teacher. Whichever discipline you need instruction in Tae Kwon Do, Muay Thai or Brazilian Jujitsu, you will be pleased with the results. The facility is open 6 days a week; family oriented and is large enough to accommodate multiple classes going on simultaneously.

I've never seen him listen so attentively or follow instructions so well in any other sport or activity. The energy in the room was fantastic, and the instructors did an excellent job of keeping the kids focused while creating a positive and encouraging environment. They were firm when needed, patient, and always willing to help my son throughout the class. What stood out to me the most was the culture of teamwork and support. Several of the kids went out of their way to help my son, and it was great to see the older students taking an active role in keeping the younger kids engaged, attentive, and included. It truly felt like a welcoming community. Overall, it was an excellent experience, and I highly recommend Gracie Barra to any parent looking for a structured, supportive, and confidence-building activity for their child.

Brazilian Jiu-jitsu is unique from almost all other martial arts in that you don't need to strike or kick someone else to protect yourself. For me that means no picking up your kid in the middle of the day from the Principal's office just because he or she had to defend themselves. Also because Jiu Jitsu deals with leverage, it is an ideal martial art for a smaller child to learn how to defend themselves against larger opponents. Beyond this very basic description of why I like Jiu-jitsu for my child, I have to mention that Prof. Scott Singer is an amazing instructor. It's great to see him working with the kids. He has a patient demeanor and you can tell that he really cares. I highly recommend Chatsworth Street Sports. So much so that I actually started taking adult lessons for myself after watching my son doing it.
