Sometimes the most unexpected of experiences are the best ones. After a networking event in EaDo, followed by dinner, me and my buddy were walking to our cars. At that point, he discovered that there was a boot on his car in the parking lot he had parked in. My brilliant friend put his phone number in rather than his license plate number which led to the predicament. Being the good friend I am, I kept him company while he was waiting for the "boot guy" to arrive. King's Court was right across the street so we decided hey, why not. Service (5/5): They were understaffed that evening so the owner was working behind the bar. He was a personable guy and made us feel right at home. Given the predicament that my buddy was in, he hooked us up with a heavy discount. Service at its finest in a casual environment. Ambiance (3/5): King's Court sounds like it's straight out of King Arthur or Ren Fest. Medieval times is not the theme though. It's divey. And it's a large bar. There's a small patio, a rooftop, seating at the bar, and plenty of space outside of that. There are bar games like that punching game one. It's not the most picturesque of bars, but it's one where you're going to have a good time. Food (N/A): We had dinner prior but the bartender told us they typically have wings. I love wings. Next time around. Drinks (4/5): Full bar. I don't think they have a cocktail list but the bartender gives you a heavy pour. Which is always appreciated. They even had Sunny D. So you know I had to make a cocktail out of it. You're not going to find craft cocktails here. But you will find stiff drinks. I'm happy to be the first to review this watering hole. It's a little bit off the beaten path in EaDo (since it's on a side street) away from the strip where all of the bars and restaurants are, but it's a short walk away. ***DO NOT GO HERE*** I had a very disappointing experience at Kings yesterday. The owner, Jay, unexpectedly asked my friend and me to leave -- just minutes after personally bringing us drinks. At first, we thought he was joking, but he then called security to remove us. What made the situation even more uncomfortable was that, as we were being escorted out, he whispered something to the bartenders and pointed at us, as if we had done something wrong to warrant that treatment. The staff looked visibly confused, and so were we. Even throughout the evening, Jay seemed frustrated and was openly aggressive toward his employees, who were clearly trying their best to manage a busy crowd. It was disheartening to witness -- especially since I'm a regular and had always spoken highly of this place. This experience was particularly disappointing because we had actually come to Kings to consider it as a venue for an upcoming cast party. While I won't be returning, I do want to recognize Eddie, Oscar, and Caesar -- three outstanding bartenders who remained professional, kind, and attentive throughout the night. I went to King's Court one evening with a group of friends, and we all enjoyed our time there. We split plates of appetizers: chips and salsa, mozzarella cheese sticks, onion rings and french fries. Friends ordered Palomas and I got a Midori Sour. Everyone liked their drinks, and the bartender was both friendly and lively. I'm guessing one of the owners must be from Minnesota because there was more Vikings memorabilia in the bar than Astros or Rockets stuff. That was kind of funny. KC is the home pub for the Houston Manchester United Supporters organization, so I went to watch the Sunday morning FA Cup match between Manchester United and Liverpool. The crowd was relatively small at kickoff but gradually grew as people trickled in through the course of the first half. The place has a projector that shows the main match on one of the walls, and there are myriad other televisions throughout the space showing a number of different sports competitions. The bar is obviously not always filled with Manchester United fans, but on this occasion, they created a jubilant atmosphere of singing and chants (with the required profanity thrown in). For the small bar it is, KC has a decent selection of draft beers though not near as extensive as other larger bars in the city. Fitting its British-Indian character, its menu offers British classics like shepherd pie and bangers and mash as well as an entire page of Indian curries and the like. As far as decor, the high ceilings and dark walls give the pub a bit of a warehouse feeling, though this is mitigated by the ample posters, jerseys, and scarves on display for a number of teams from different sports and countries. The staff also lightens things, as they were quite friendly and helpful. For food, I ordered the spicy lamb curry (each Indian dish has four different spice levels you can choose from). Considering this is a bar and not an Indian restaurant, I was really impressed with the quality of the food. The meat was tender and flavorful with enough spice to make the food enjoyable without being painful. The only drawback was the naan, which came out small and was not as fluffy as one would normally expect. The waitress apologized profusely, saying they had had a problem with their tandoor, and gave me the naan for free as a result. Sitting directly next to the Houston Dynamo soccer stadium, KC performs well as the local soccer pub that it is. While it may not be as cozy or bright as some other bars, it still evokes the pleasant feelings you look for in your local community pub. read more

Newer place with an industrial theme. I was really surprised to see it pop up on yelp and wanted to like it so much, since I love indian food. It is a decent size bar with an open area in the middle. I only came for the food after an Astros game and found the dishes ranging from 8-16, apps are 2-8. Both my friend and I ordered the butter chicken, priced at $14. We came to find out about 30 mins later a couple at the end of the bar also ordered this dish; however, what our bartender failed to mention was they were out of the dish. After sitting aimlessly at the bar, having a cocktail and awaiting our order, 2 other bartenders came and went and didn't think to realize we had a number in front of us and we had ordered food from the kitchen. Long story short, the food finally came out 1.5 hours later. My friend was so pissed he waited all that long and then canceled his entire order and bailed. I stayed until the bitter end and ended up getting comped my entire tab consisting of lamb samosas, butter chicken and a cocktail. This was the only right thing to do after 1.5 hrs of sitting there and waiting on the food to come out. This one bartender and maybe even some of the staff totally dropped the ball on us and the other couple. The samosas even took an unusually long amount of time to come out from the kitchen. I wasn't questioning it at the time since they offered this dish gratis while I waited on the main dish, but not sure what was going on in the kitchen that night. The samosas come three to an order and with 2 dipping sauces, a mint one and a sweet one. I liked both the samosas and the sauces! I finally ate the butter chicken the next night and it was actually pretty good. It was very fresh tasting, tomatoey, full flavored and contains a good amount of spices. I wouldn't go as far as saying it was spicy, but it had more spice in it than typical butter chickens in the Houston area. It was more red in color, as opposed to some that are yellowish. It also comes with a small side of basmati rice and naan. I'm not 100% convinced the bread isn't actually pita bread they get from the store and just slice in half. It doesn't taste like naan you get at restaurants. Even though my experience was a nightmare, I would still return to give them another try....and bring a different person possibly. Stopped by this neighborhood bar before my first Dynamo game. This bar is a great spot to meet up with those if you going to a game and need a location to meet given its close proximity to BBVA Stadium. As for my experience at KCP, well stocked bar, service was good and a menu that offers Indian cuisine. This bar others a Indian plates and traditional bar bites. I got the (3) Lamb Samosa while I waited. They were spicy and well seasoned. Next time in the area I look forward to trying some of the food there but will say KCP exceeded my expectations. Worrrreld cup mannnnia!!! The France vs. Croatia Showdown!! This far was a great alternative to the bar across the street entitled Pitch 25. The game started at 9 a.m. Central Standard Time and I'm sure fans were standing across the street in line by 7 a.m. We got there right on time before the game started and before it got extremely packed. By the time we got there, there are no seats left so it was a standing-room-only party! We endured this standing-room-only party for the first half of the game. 45 minutes wasn't that bad when you're cheering on your team! The bar went pretty fast once you caught the bartender's attention. We saw a lot of people walk upstairs and come right back down and couldn't figure out why. After a little investigation, we found that there was no TV upstairs. Thus, no watch party upstairs. Beplace reached maximum capacity by halftime. Period. So much so that they could only let one person in if one person left. Oh and by the way, the place across the street still had a long line wrapped around the building at halftime. Altogether, I had a great time at the standing room only party. It's a great alternative to not being able to get in across the street and the service was typical bar service. I get here about once a year, usually after 9 PM. It's friendly, they always have at least one IPA on draft and a selection of decent 'nibble' food. I usually get the wings, buffalo. The roof is nice, but I prefer to sit at the bar and listen to the local sportsmen talking trash. read more

Really bad experience. We were visiting from San Francisco looking for a cool/hip/friendly casual bar to get some beers and the place that we were originally going was closed due Covid-19. As soon as we got seated one of the "lady owners" barely greeted us and very rudely said that we MUST order food (which we were tooootally ok with) but her demeanor was far away from welcoming. We will never disagree with the rules but her approach was extremely poor. She should be glad that we decided to spend our money at her establishment. This is the home of El Batallon, one of Houston Dynamo's supporters groups for Major League Soccer. They are here before and after each game. They have specials on game days, e.g. $10 for all you can drink responsibly. This is definitely a money saver considering that one can of beer alone is $10 in the stadium! My reason for a four-star rating is for the chicken tikka masala alone. It is fantastic with just the right amount of spice but not too much. There is a hint of sweetness that is not overpowering, but just right. This dish also arrives in less than ten minutes, and I love how you get BOTH rice (to go with the chicken and sauce) and naan (need to scoop that extra yummy sauce!). I was with some friends the first time I ordered. After sampling mine, three more people ordered the same entree for themselves LOL! The reason why I pushed this to a four star rating? YOU ACTUALLY GET ENOUGH RICE AND NAAN TO MATCH THE AMOUNT OF THE PROTEIN AND SAUCE!!! I cannot tell you how many times when I go to an Indian restaurant, you can get 2-3 times of the amount of sauce/protein but not enough rice. I then will ask for extra rice and also get charged extra. Like really? I am Asian...and you are charging me for extra rice? I KNOW that tiny bowl of rice didn't cost you $2 (especially since you can buy a 25lb bag of rice for $25). There is something wrong with that LOL! I digress. There are different areas for hanging out, which is nice. There's an outdoor porch where the Bayou City Blues gather to support Chelsea (not that this ever conflicts with Dynamo games). There is also an upstairs patio where you can see a view of the city. It's not the prettiest view, but at least it's an open space to get fresh air; there is also a tv on this patio. You will be able to hear the people on the porch downstairs or any live music blasting from a nearby festival. If you are looking for a bar with fellow Dynamo or Chelsea fans, come here! read more

Enjoyed my time on Thursday night at the newly opened establishment. The DJ was on point. Got there kind of late and the kitchen was closed but the owner graciously opened for his guest. The chicken wings and fries were awesome. And the drinks were well poured and reasonably priced. People were smoking cigars on the outdoor patio up front. There is also an upstairs outdoor patio with views of Minute Maid, BBVA and the Marriott Marquis hotel. Nice chill casual spot for fun night out with friends. read more

Chicken tikka masala did not derive from India. A bunch of immigrants migrated to the UK, one of them was a Pakistani cook who unbeknownst would become the father of this tomato spiced dish. Its origin has said to have taken place at Shish Mahal restaurant. A customer complained about the chicken being to dry so in order to compensate the chef created a sauce, it began with yogurt and canned tomato soup. And just like that, the birth of chicken tikka masala came to be. Now it's proclaimed Britain's national dish. So, it would make complete sense, that someone would decide to open up a British/South Asian pub. Here you get to experience history and cultural blending with the dishes offered on their menu. Things ranging from fish and chips to samosas to Shepard's pie. What I decided for the day was rather "simplistic". Curry fries. It had so much depth I sat back in my chair immersed with its heart wrenching flavor. Let's just talk about the fries for starters. I was told they are hand cut, and they are seasoned by the God's. Its like a cross bred of five guys and wing stop fries which if you've had either of them, chain or no chain they make some dank ass fries. Assuming it's a tomato masala, the aromatics were absolutely divine. Roasted tomatoes gave organic sweetness but the heat is obvious without being overwhelming, its flawlessly in its unison. The combination of the curry with the seasoned fries takes you on a lusty ride. There was a bit of a language barrier but I believe it is vegan so double check! The fries alone have made me a die hard fan and now I must try their pizzas, composed of naan as the flatbread and adding things like the chicken tikka masala, panner, and some #veggie curries. Came here for a late night grab with my fiance on a Sunday. Service was okay, got checked on once during the entire meal. Server was too focused on grabbing attention from the male guests. Barback was licking his fingers after eating a meal behind the bar while washing the cupware. The prices weren't updated on the Menu. In fact, it looked like a 8 year old made their menu. Music was too loud, food was the worst. Ordered Butter chicken and Tikka Masala. The appearance was unappetizing and the flavor was absolutely horrible. Walked into KC and instantly felt welcomed with open arms! Jay was alone behind the bar, but he interacted with every person that walked in. He did a great job and you could tell he really enjoyed what he does. Tried to order food not knowing the kitchen was closed. I understood and apologized, yet Jay ensued that it was ok a few times and he took care of me. These KEEMA FRIES were off the chain!! The fries remand crunchy and steaming all the way to the last bite. I give it a solid 4/5 spice held through to the end but not unbearable. Tried this place one evening for take out and was happy I finally figured out what it is. I attend a ton of soccer games, and noticed them building this place quite some time ago, but never really realized it was more then a bar. Now that I am aware however I'll definitely be frequenting it more, it gets old having to drive across town for Indian food, and while it may not have been totally "authentic," as one reviewer notes, I do think they do a pretty solid job with the flavors and spices. Not quite what I expected, but it'll certainly do when I want some curry. Hopefully they get the word out more going forward, it's in a pretty trafficked area of Eado, I live down the street and really had no idea it was there. Went in on a non-game night and were the only people ordering food. I had the fish masala and my wife ordered the tofu curry. We both had some draft Texas brews which are $4 on Tuesday. The food took forever to come out of the kitchen, which was crazy since there were no orders ahead of us. Luckily, the wait was worth it because our dishes were delicious. The fish was spicier and more aromatic than the curry. Food was served hot and cooked just right. We will wait a few more weeks before returning since they still have some issues to work out with the kitchen turnaround times. This was going to be the first time we ate here. I wanted to try some place new to eat before the game. The reviews sounded like it was a great place to eat before the Dynamo game. When we got there we ordered drinks and was eager to try the Indian and British food. Well this didn't happen as the chef was out of the country and all they had to serve was bar food that didn't sound appetizing and we could get any where. So we paid for our drinks and went elsewhere to eat. Would love to try again when the chef is in town!! You really should have a backup chef for when this happens!! read more

My experience was sub par. I was literally steered to this location on a Bike Bar. I guess that's how those work. They take you to bars on a bike (it all makes sense). Anywho, we arrived. I went on a Thursday at 1:15pm in the afternoon during the Corona Pandemic. Masks are worn by staff and consumers, there is hand sanitizer, and tables are socially distanced. I felt comfortable. Our server was new so that may add to the overall rating of the lunch. I guess she was the only server on the schedule & behind the bar. Let's get started: I'm not a food connoisseur so take my ratings on the food at your own risk. The food was okay I had a burger and fries. I thought the fries were salty and the burger itself didn't wow me but it didn't disappoint me either. Refills were slow, and the reason I'm noting this is because there was a total of nine people in the restaurant with only one server and she seemed to still be struggling. When the check came there was a issue with it but because of the hurry we were on to get back on our bike bar we didn't make any complaints about it. The issue was the item on the menu was $11 but we were charged $16. Overall the facility was clean and had lots of TVs. The atmosphere is inviting. They have rooftop seating but not at the time we went. It's a sports bar with a lounge vibe. Personally, I wouldn't come back here unless someone drives but if you're in the area it's a nice place to hangout for a little while. read more

We came into Houston just to hang for the weekend. This place was right on the corner from the building we were staying in. We went in on a Sunday afternoon. It was pretty empty, a couple playing pool, which I wasn't sure if you had to pay for since i didn't see the sticks once they left. There was also a table of folks sitting in the front of the bar. We tried some shots of a Texas Whiskey that was pretty good. I ordered a whiskey sour, which wasn't that great, I'm not sure how much alcohol was actually in there. I found that the place has not been been open very long, i think about a year or less. The bartender was really. They said there was probably a hundred people there in the morning for the soccer game and they pretty much depleted their beer stock, so the place must be somewhat popular. TAKEOUT ORDERER'S BEWARE! I ordered takeout last night on my way home from a different bar and it was just an all around horrible experience. I tried calling the restaurant before making my order via yelp. I had to call 6 times in a 30 minute span before anyone picked up. They said that their takeout orders from yelp are ready in 10-15 minutes. They also said their butter chicken came with rice (Duh, what curry place doesn't, but I always ask to avoid what happened to me!). I made my order and showed up 25 minutes later thinking the food would be waiting on me. I still had to wait another 10-15 minutes before my food was ready. I should have checked my food in the restaurant but I was just so ready to go home I didn't even look. After I got home I realized my order didn't have any rice. Honestly on a Friday night I'm sure this was just a mistake, but they weren't really that busy. I tried calling them back to tell them but they still don't answer their phone. I even tried calling them back this morning after they opened (can't be TOO busy at 11am, right?). And I just cannot get a hold of ANYONE. I tried asking grub hub for help but apparently they need the restaurant to answer before they could do anything else, which surprisingly enough, they are not answering. The Butter Chicken tasted pretty good, but once again, eating Butter Chicken with a fork and no rice was like eating a thick soup with a fork. Pretty big let down. Awesome service and staff. Jay got me a section back during the World Series finals and man did my family and I fall in love with the bar! Super nice and it's soccer based which is cool as I'm a Barcelona fan . A lot of the surrounding bars were only 21+ at the time during World Series and jay went out of his way to show us his bar and said you are welcome. I was so stoked and that week turned out to be great. Wanted to plan my 21st there this past June but covid messes up my plans. S/O to Jay and his wife for the friendly service! I want to like this place so badly. An Indian joint in my neck of the woods? Yes, please. The food menu is good but limited. Service has been a little awkward but passable. I think they have a high potential to grow into a good spot, and they have been adapting as they've been here. I think the problem is probably that they don't know what they want to be. The identity crisis includes: Indian food, sports bar, British food, dive bar, downtown patio bar, Dynamo bar. Further, the beer I had needed the tap line cleaned. The real estate is great for any of the aforementioned identities, but they're not doing any of them particularly well. I hope they select one to do very well, and do it (then they can add some of the other identities too). If they don't, I'm afraid they won't make it based on the emptiness I'm usually met with there. I was really excited for this place bc it's so close to home. You can't really tell what it is looking at the outside, the actual name is hidden. When you walk in, it's like walking into the past, but with exposed duct pipes. Dark and just odd decor! There was no one that will take your order. I had to walk around to find a menu. The food was so beyond what Indian "bar food" or even Indian food should taste like. Not nearly enough tables if they were to get full. This place could totally use Bar Rescue!! When you're standing at the bar for 20 minutes and do not receive service that means that your bar is not very efficient. The owner was actually there working but wasn't helping with the service whatsoever. This place might be good when there's not events going on in downtown Houston but on a night where there's a soccer match and a baseball game and who knows what else it is a horrible place to go to. The bartenders wouldn't even give you our contact and they completely ignored you when you tried to get their attention. Tilt your head up say I'm extremely sorry were so busy I will get to you as soon as I can. So who is ultimately to blame? The two bartenders trying to serve about 150 people or the owner who can't staff enough folks behind the bar to take care of their patrons? This is one person who will not be returning. read more
