My mom went to the King's Daughters ER last month. She stated she was having trouble breathing. They found out her potassium was too high and was causing cardiac arrest. They had to do CPR to bring her back to us. And I will forever be grateful to God and the ones who performed CPR! They kept her in intensive care for two days then moved her to a regular room. She went to the ER on Monday and I came into town Thursday. My mom has dementia and they were treating her as if she was unable to get out of bed. But before she went in the hospital she was mobile. But she had been laying in the hospital bed for three days and had become very weak. I became her advocate without realizing it and not long after arriving my first day I asked her nurse to help me get her to the bathroom. That was the beginning of her recovery. I visited every day while I was in town for five days. And stayed for most of the day into the evening. I got to know several of the nurses as well as her doctor and case manager. I would like to thank her wonderful nurses Debbie, Kim and Tiffany, her case manager, Deanna, and her doctor, Dr Khoudoud. All the staff I encountered seemed to truly care about my Mom. Dr Khoudoud would spend at least 20 minutes with me and my Dad daily answering our questions and updating us about her overall health. As yet I am not able to uncover the name of the nurse responsible for setting off a chain of unwarranted false "medical emergency" which set our household into a panic causing severe emotional distress. When I do, I will report her to the State Medical Board, her supervisor, and anyone else I can find to report this person to. When my labs came in my creatinine score was slightly elevated, up to 1.5 from 1.4. But whoever saw this called after 6:00 p.m.that same evening to demand I go to urgent care. This person was so concerned that she demanded to know if she needed to call an ambulance for me. I kept assuring her I felt fine. Where did this person get her medical training? Facebook? But my wife was now concerned and drove me to urgent care, where I was told that yes the creatinine was slightly up from the last visit, but there was certainly no medical emergency. The urgent care doctor we saw is on record as stating this and will be used to verify my claims and my assertion that whoever created this is totally incompetent and should be severely reprimanded. My primary care doctors are also aware of this incident. All this is in my record. Incredibly, not one medical professional has voiced any concern about this. I emailed this complaint to the Kings Daughters Patient Representative, but got a non response. I want two things, The name of that nurse that set off that fake emergency so that #2 I may proceed with my complaint to the State Medical Board. read more

If less than zero stars was an option I would select it. The lack of communication with me (the patient) is ridiculous! I had a 9:30am appointment, 2 hrs later im about to pop a gasket! Still sitting, no one had checked on me, informed me of my place in line. I understand things happen but the lack of communication is inexcusable. This place is the worse hospital I've ever gone to. In the ER, there are flies and nuts all over the place as well as trash. There is immense disorganization amongst the staff while my husband was being treated. The computer system went down. The doctor never came to tell him his results. A nurse told him his results at discharge and even then we had to ask her what his bloodwork indicated in.There is a lack of communication between doctor and nurse with overhearing other patients and their treatment and outcome to their visit being that the patient area has no privacy. And the ER while sitting there the staff treated the the area like a social meet and greet amongst themselves. All of the staff for utilizing one person to login to chart due to only one computer working and they were afraid that they would not be able to login however that is a violation. We will never go back to that place. read more

Emergency surgery done around midnight: family of 80 yr old woman was not notified and patient kept worrying because she was alone and family wasn't aware she was there. Lacking in bedside care. No bath, shower or even a washcloth for hands and face. read more

Went to the ER Sunday morning with a hurt arm and wearing a mask. The patient before me had been vomiting and had vomit on her pant leg. I was called next to the triage and I never saw staff clean the chair after the lady sat there with soiled pants. I sat in the chair, as requested, assuming health safety protocols were followed. It is late Monday and I'm seriously I'll with vomiting, diarrhea, headache, and chills. I can't even hold bits of water down. I haven't been this sick in a long time. I called ER to see what the safety procedures are in place when transitioning from patient-to-patient in the triage area. She said she couldn't tell me. Are they trying to hide something? I'm 70-years-old and I'm worried I'm dehydrated. One can see that KDMC doesn't care. A side note, KDMC has bulletins in several locations in the ER; I.e., health assistance, etc , and patients are referred to as "customers." Do they know the difference from a "patient" and a "customer"? read more

I have been a patient at Kings Daughters for over ten years. Dr. Pangan is my Nephrologist at Kings Daughters Ashland Kentucky. He is the worst, uncaring, ill mannered, and he treated me like I was white trash. Dr. Pangan also works for Fresenius Healthcare in Portsmouth OH where I receive dialysis. I have not seen him in six weeks but he bills my insurance company for four visits per month. When he speaks to me I cower because of the tone of his voice. He orders me and won't listen to what I have to say. I have been at Dialysis for one year now and he refuses to let me go home for Dialysis. I am sixty one and he said it's safety issues. I have my husband of twenty years as my helper and he has a medical background. I can't even get an appointment with him in his office. The rule is that Dialysis patients are not allowed to be seen in the office. Dr. Pangan is the head of Nephrology with three or more under him. He has three different jobs and he has no time to see me because I am in Porsmouth OH and he is in Kentucky. The Dr's that work under him sign for him when he isn't even at the Dialysis to see me. So I have been stuck doing Dialysis at the facility when I have a beautiful home to go to. I do Dialysis three days a week for four hours at a time. The drive which is far and the gas money is not helping us. The nurses at Fresenius are wonderful, hardworking, compassionate, and care about there patients. I hate to leave them because there are some bad Dialysis facilities out there. Kings daughters has done nothing to help me. I filed a report with the complaince department against Dr. Pangan and they acted like they were really investigating him. They waited a month then told me they will give me a referral to another Nephrologist. So much for my ten plus years with no problems. My main reason for writing this is I don't want Dr. Pangan to be allowed to abuse another patient. There might be someone who is weaker than me and won't speak up. I'm begging you for your own safety and sanity stay away from Dr. Pangan and Kings daughter. read more

I just had a nurse from this hospital leave me a long, detailed message about my bloodwork results and my liver function and if I had any questions about scheduling my next appointment feel free to call back. The problem with that? I wasn't the patient and I have never been to that facility in my life. I hope the patient gets her results and figure out their privacy issues. read more

Was supposed to have a pH test done today at KDMC only to get there and discover that they had misplaced information needed to do the test. Now this test had been scheduled months ago and KDMC had plenty of time to make sure everything was in order. Not only that but previously KDMC had scheduled me for the wrong test and changed the date of said test. I am a patient of the VA in Huntington and went there on a Community Based Service call which the VA pays for. Can't help but wonder if part of my problem is that KDMC really doesn't want to deal with the VA which pays considerably less than some insurance companies. Just a thought, but one thing for sure, I will not be going there again for my medical care. read more

Don't waste your time.. you're seen in the waiting room. This doesn't feel professional. They have not communicated with me about my issues. I honestly feel I have wasted another night by coming to this hospital. If you sincerely are looking for answers or help, avoid this hospital. Save your gas money or make the extra commute to a hospital that is helpful and knowledgeable, one that cares for their patients. read more

my wife has been seeing dr Omar in Nero for years & he has not helped her at all, he diagnosed her with epilepsy in 2014, & then proceeds to tell her that she doesn't have epilepsy, even though he diagnosed her with it & currently still has her on kepra for seizures. Her seizures has been non stop here lately & I took her to the ER because she had 6 seizures this past day & it took them 2 hours just to get her to a bed, then all they done was do blood work & hooked a iv up to her. She went into 2 more seizures laying in the hospital bed in which they left the bed side rails down, so she could have easily fell out of it. It was left up to me to put them up to make sure she did not fall Out of bed. As she went into the first seizure I went and got the nurse, & she came to the room & said my wife's name really loud, then as a obvious response she got no answer from my wife due to being in a full blown seizure. The nurse then tells me she does not know what to do & has to go get the doctor. Upon the doctor coming into the room he just looks at her, shaking, jerking, flopping around & drooling on herself. At this point he tells me there is no sign of a seizure here & proceeds to walk out of the room along side with the nurse. Leaves me completely alone in the room with her & at this point it was completely up to me to get her out of the seizure, as I got her out of the first one she went right back into a 2nd seizure. at this point the nurse comes in and I ask what is going on and she says he has her up for discharge. i Ask for another doctor because we need something done because she is having memory loss due to these & the nurse proceeds to tell me they don't have a Nero in office or on call, at the time we were there was 9:00pm. she said they have a tele health Nero they could call. ( what on earth is a telephone call going to do for a patient who is actively seizing?) they proceeded to discharge her and now we are on our way to UK because kings daughters done absolutely nothing but charge us a arm and a leg, and after discharging gave her discharge papers stating where she has been diagnosed with epilepsy & how to treat it. The Nephrology Department is lacking... a Dr Pangan is incompetent and high handed.....he actually prevented me from got to a dialysis clinic closer to home... fine if he was my doctor there, I didn't want him anyway. He never adjusted my weight, left the decision to the techs... I only saw him twice ever ... Dr Dolittle... kept my running time at 4 hours; yet in civilized Pennsylvania; it was 3.5 hours... emblematic of the poor health care foisted on the people of Kentucky read more

Terrible. Appendicitis with 2 hours stuck in triage. IVs always take a million tries and everyone leaves bruised all the way up their arms. Ridiculous. Nurse in triage was extremely rude. Even other patients said we should've been in faster. read more

Your nursing staff is very rude. They are not completely considered of situations and weather . They all seem like they hate there jobs.

I knew this from working in the medical field not to use Kings Daughters. After years... I met a doctor that I liked. I was referred for additional cardiac medical testing. On the plus side cardiac testing was great. The problem is that I have private insurance. After insurance co pay I have. 5500 plus bill. My daughter manages a medical facility in Manhattan. Kdmc charges those with private insurance more than facilities in NYC. I protested the charges. No changes were made to out of line billing. I will never go to another kdmc faculty and will make my 10.00 monthly payment for the next 50 years. read more
