I had a reservation at a location in Caldwell, ID - close to my storage unit (Emptying it). I got called the day before and told that I'd be going to this location in Nampa. it is 27min from the other location. It made no sense until a Uhaul person stated the franchise owner didn't wanna lose the "rental". First, getting to this location is not as simple as I had assumed it would be. Its directly off of a VERY busy road that is one lane in each direction. The driveway is also the driveway for storage units, there is nothing saying entrance/exit. The driveway itself is unlike other U-haul locations as it's made for a storage place. Other U-haul locations have wide birth driveways. Not this one. They opened at 9:30. I saw the trailer was hooked to the Uhaul. I had explained I would pick up the Uhaul, empty the storage unit and return for the trailer to head home. The woman at the counter said I couldn't do that because they were going to "Close soon". (This was 9:35-9:40 a.m.?). The guy checked me in. He was nice enough UNTIL he asked if my husband or brother were with me (I'm a woman). I need a man to rent a U-haul? He went on to ask if I've ever driven a big truck - and moved on to experience with a trailer. I kinda laughed and explained PLENTY of experience. Gave examples in addition to my U-haul history. He "informed me" that had I brought someone with me, I wouldn't need to tow my car. Ya don't say?! The whole conversation was condescending. I'd normally have told him off but I needed the damn truck. Fast forward to us out front, we go and put my car on the trailer. he asks if I've used "Ratchet" straps before. Yes, actually daily - I explain and even gave him examples. (I keep them in my trunk ironically). He then walks me thru how to use a ratchet strap as if I need it. THEN he realizes one of the safety chains is wrapped too tight on the trailer and he cannot free it. I see my chance to leave my car then and go back to plan A, I say to him "Look, you need to deal with the trailer or replace it - I'm seriously just going to clear my storage unit out- will take less than an hour, how about we go back to my original plan and you can deal with the trailer while I'm filling the U-Haul? What time were you guys planning on walking out the door? He scratches his head and then says "We close at 3pm." (I'm internally LIVID as 3pm is NOT "closing soon" as the woman had stated. He says fine. I remove my car from the trailer and park. I jump into the Uhau- its at 1/4 a tank, the windshield is COVERED in bug guts. You cannot see out of it. (I Have NEVER had this experience at any other U-Haul. I tell the guy and he says "Yeah, you'll need to stop at a gas station." AT NO time did he walk me around the U-haul like other locations have done either. I'm now already late to meet my friends @ storage unit. I do my storage unit, head back and back up to the trailer. Same guy comes out and hooks the trailer up. I load my car up on the trailer and he secures it and tells me to drive safe as he walks back inside. I FULLY understand the need to ask anyone if they've ever driven a U-Haul whatever size or something equivalent. I also agree with asking if the person has ever towed anything, because if not they would need a fast course education on it. THIS is not what/how I was asked. It genuinely was the male pig version of thinking because I'm a woman I must not be able to. I'm not even a girly girl. I have had to rent a few U-Hauls in the past 2 years for various reasons and all were stellar. THIS is my first HORRIBLE unreal experience ever experienced at a U-Haul. I still laugh sorta at the staff being concerned about me driving a U-haul as a woman but not a damn effort or thought at the fact you couldn't see outta the windshield - COMPLETE safety issue. DO NOT USE this location. They do not have any business even carrying the name "U-Haul". read more

Horrible HORRIBLE customer service. We rented a uhaul truck on 11/21 and added furniture dollies. When we got home the dollies were for appliances. We called and were told that we could keep the incorrect dollies and come back for the correct ones. When I drove back across town the young woman called us a liar and told us we "weren't getting nothing for free." And said we had to immediately return both appliance dollies. Telling her we had already paid for the furniture dollies and the mistake was THEIRS she finally brought one of the dollies (we paid for two and were never credited for the one she refused to give us) and we're told she was doing me a favor. Mind you we'd already paid for TWO dollies. Mistakes happen - just take care of them for your customers. I will NEVER recommend or use kings gate storage again. read more

Trucks are dirty and not serviced properly. Our truck was 2qts low on motor oil. very low on anti-freeze. This is a must when you're about to travel 2000 mi. Heater switch only worked on defrost , if you wiggled it. Radio was intermittent for weather reports and music. Thank god tires were new since we traveled through snow country. When we returned it in good condition, the first words out of the woman's mouth was : you're late , it was supposed to be here at 9am. I Had a customer waiting and had to rent them a different truck. Really ? Not , how was your trip ? How did the truck work out ? Was there any issues ? Hope you had a safe trip ? Thank you for your Business ! Nothing like that . Just rude comments because we were 2 hrs late after 5 days and driving 1800 mi. Cross country .My advise, next time leave a 2or3 he. Buffer time for people a little late returning. Shit happens. My wife and I are 60 yrs old trying to load and unload after 1800 mi. Driving Crazy roads trip. We've now rented 7 trucks from U-Haul in the last 4 mos to get my family up here . Overpriced crappy dirty trucks , hoping they held up to our destinations And back. Thank god we're done . No more Uhauls . This office lady was rude and couldnt give a rats ass how our trip was . Only that we were late getting back . Ha ! She must be a transplant from Cali. The guy working at this office is cool though . He was very helpful and informed on U-Haul products. So, if you go here. If it's the woman , walk out or ask for the guy. Don't think I'd rent here again ! Just saying ... I rarely write reviews about anything . But we spent a sh.. t load of money we don't have for crappy trucks Unmaintained . Last thing I needed was attitude on top of it . read more

Place must be hurting for money. Truck's are beat up inside and out. A/C doesn't work.... thank God I turned around and made it known to the person who checked me out or I'm sure there would have been another "charge" added to my bill. Anything to make a few extra bucks, right? Cleaning fee?? Really lady?? The trashball at the front counter's job must not constitute customer service because when I asked about it she yelled at me and told me I was "a horrible customer". I'm a horrible customer for renting a shitty truck, returning it on time with a full tank of gas and for leaving your business card and gas receipt in the cupholder? What else does a customer in your line of work need to do? Allow you to use your business to nickel and dime people? Its not about the money and never is with me. I own a business and that is why this pisses me off as much as it does. I truly do not remember the last time I wrote a review. Serve's me right for not reading previous reviews on this place. Not like they care but don't get into the service industry if these are the types of people you employ. I always give businesses the benefit of the doubt....if food sucks, don't complain, just don't go back. If service is shotty due to laziness or whatever, don't complain, just don't go back. BUT when something like this happens where they steal your money and then berate when you ask why, they should be called on it and put out of business!!! What's goes around comes around. Overall, a decent storage place. It's a nice location. On the negative side, with it's location right next door to a pallet manufacturing business, sawdust got into our unit covering all our contents. We asked about the issue and we were told they couldn't do anything about it. They also had a increase in price for no apparent reason. We have chosen to not store there any more. read more
