Got my S/O a sweet-sounding acoustic that she really likes. Sold 'em a solid-body bass, bought an electric one. But really, it's the setups that do it for me. They really treat guitars right here: when I get a guitar from other sources, I take it here to get a setup. Also, they sometimes get some *interesting* stuff in from time-to-time: worth keeping an eye on. Just don't buy anything I want, ok? :)

She taught me how to break down big challenges into manageable pieces, how to set a goal and reach it (auditions, auditions, auditions), how to manage performance nerves, how to recover from a poor performance ("learn from it and let it go"), and how to deal with the ups and downs of life (remember, we were together for 10 years). I had always been under the impression that it is imperative to get every single note right, so I would often get frustrated when I missed notes. I finally broke down during one of my lessons and started crying. When I told Mary why I was upset, I feared that she would be disappointed in me, but then she gave me a completely new perspective on playing the piano-- the idea that it's not all about the notes but rather more about the musicality. Mary explained that what's more important is creating the mood of the music; a pianist's interpretation of the piece is what truly excites the audience. She began guiding me through various movement exercises in order to allow me to be more expressive, and I appreciated how patient and encouraging she was during the process. Over time, as I embraced the idea of musicality more, I realized I had never had so much fun playing the piano. In fact, being more expressive actually made it easier for me to get the notes right as well, since there was less tension in my body. On the whole, I became a better musician. But more importantly, I changed my outlook on life in general. During that same pivotal piano lesson, Mary told me that just as it's okay if a few notes are wrong here and there, it's okay if not everything is perfect in life--it's about making the most of whatever comes your way and focusing on the big picture. And just as I began to feel less stressed about playing the piano, I began to feel less stressed in general. I started learning to keep a positive attitude in everything I do, knowing that I will be successful in the long term as long as I try my hardest. Friday, I auditioned and joined a band (vocals), so by Sunday, I called the Center and switched to a vocal coach. Had my first session wtih Chris McCall last week and LOVE IT! Convenient parking directly across the street. The center is one block from Main Street, in downtown Ann Arbor. Classes are 30 mins, they bill you for the month upfront and I can see why. It secures your spot with your instructor and keeps people from totally flaking out on their lesson, leaving the instructor high and dry. Schedules are flexible and the people are friendly.

Among my many concerns, my daughter got locked in a lower level bathroom and no one could hear her asking for help to get out (she eventually crawled under the stall and got herself out). I reached out to Josh Grekin, their director, immediately and withdrew registration for the remaining two weeks. I listed multiple reasons why his staff was negligent. He apologized and said he was glad to know this to train his staff better for next time. I am completely unsatisfied with this response. I have asked for a refund multiple times and I haven't heard anything back. I am a very unsatisfied customer and this lack of response has been infuriating. At least tell me that you have a no refund policy or something? I will be contacting the Better Business Bureau to voice my complaints there and hopefully get my $400 back.
