Well, as I write this the office is officially closed but I'm still waiting to be seen. Should I be grateful tho since this was a same day office visit? Does every Dr. Make you wait an hour plus before they see you? Ugh! The front desk staff go from moody to cool, the medical staff are more upbeat and easygoing. Dr. Waddel is a straight shooter but can be on the insensitive side at times. Anyway, the practice is a patient centered medical home so they offer more than just your primary care services including mental health and nutrition. 1 star -- do not go here This office is a masterclass in incompetence and greed. Appointments are chronically late, repeatedly confirmed, and then canceled anyway. During one visit, a nurse confused me with another patient and attempted to give me a shot I did not need. The only reason it didn't happen is because I stopped her and told her to verify. That is a terrifying level of negligence in a medical office. Patients are told they may only discuss two "problems" per visit -- their word -- and are charged if they dare mention anything else. This practice nickel-and-dimes patients relentlessly: * $25 for work paperwork * $30 for prescription refills * $45 to transfer records * $150 for bringing up a third issue I was double-charged for a visit and then blamed for their billing mistake. You're forced to complete 20+ pages of paperwork ahead of time, only to be made to redo all of it once you arrive. The front desk staff are rude, dismissive, and wildly incompetent. Dr. Waddell does not appear to care about patients at all -- only revenue. Visits are rushed, impersonal, and transactional. In a telemedicine appointment, she was two hours late and didn't even offer a simple apology. I switched providers and immediately saw the difference: respect, accountability, and actual care. Despite arriving to appointments early, I have never been seen less than 30 minutes after my appointment time, and sometimes I have waited over 90 minutes. Dr. Nikki does not acknowledge the extremely long wait. When I asked her, she blamed it on her patients talking to her about too many issues. The last time I went, I was moved to FOUR different rooms to wait. The nurse said "Sorry, Dr. Nikki is running behind today." I said, "That happens every day," and the nurse said "I know." I've asked the front desk when the best time is to schedule so that I am seen on time & was told "There is no best time. The problem is Dr.Nikki." If you value your time, take the word of the many reviews here, that she will likely not see you on time, and will not take any accountability for it. One time my appointment started 45 minutes late because a disgruntled patient came in and demanded to speak with Dr.Nikki. I waited to be seen as I listened to him say he was out of refills for his prescription and no one would return his calls. Dr. Nikki blamed it on the nurse practitioner who handled his prescription leaving the practice. Apparently there is no contingency plan patients of employees who leave. The office is extremely unorganized. They called me and scheduled an appointment for blood work. I fasted for the blood work and arrived to my appointment 30 minutes early. I was seen 45 minutes late. When I asked when I would be getting my blood taken, I was told the blood work appointment wasn't supposed to be for another 3 months. I did not need to come in for blood work and I did not need to fast. Other patient's reviews have stated experiencing this. I notified Dr. Nikki of my visit to the emergency room because of chest pains. Dr. Nikki said perhaps I wasn't wearing supportive enough bras. Ma'am... I didn't go to the ER because my bra didn't fit. There are heartbreaking reviews about Dr. Nikki's fat phobia. I can attest to this. I am a breastfeeding mother. I requested a specific brand of medication because it was tested and declared safe for breastfeeding. Dr. Nikki said "I don't typically like prescribing it because it can cause weight gain." Despite me saying my priority was knowing that the medication was safe for my baby, she felt it was more important that I didn't gain weight. During my physical, Dr. Nikki asked if I have experience sexual assault, asked if I reported the assault, and proceeded to tell me that if I don't report it, that person is likely to harm others. I sent Dr. Nikki feedback about why I did not report an assault and I stated that it is important to respect the personal choice of victims. I asked that she no longer ask me about this at future appointments. At my next appointment Dr. Nikki told me she disagreed and that it is necessary to ask these questions. I told her my issue is not with the questions, but with the unsolicited, non-medical advice. She went on to say that it is my responsibility as a Black woman to report what happened to the authorities and that if nothing comes of it to write my representatives. I said "I am drawing a boundary. I do not wish to speak to you about this anymore. You are refusing to respect my personal choice and my boundary." She replied, "That's like if a patient said they didn't want me to tell them to stop eating sugar. It's my job to tell them they're eating too much sugar." To which I responded, "Eating sugar and being raped are not the same thing," and left. The entire conversation had NOTHING to do with my medical needs and solely had to do with her personal opinions. It was re-traumatizing and an abuse of her position to insist on telling me how I should respond to assault I experienced, instead of empowering me to process and heal in the way I decide. She did not ask me how I was coping. She was only concerned with if I responded to my abuse in the way that she judged acceptable. This is not trauma-informed care. Unless wasting hours of your time and being forced to listen to the personal opinions of someone on a power-trip are your thing, avoid this place at all costs. read more

Dr. Waddell - 5 stars Office - 4 stars Customer service/front staff - 2 stars Timeliness - 2 stars total: 3.25 stars So my first appointment here went well. I really liked Dr. Waddell. She is smart, warm, knowledgeable and upfront about helping you. She seemed as though she genuinely liked her job and what she does. She is younger and well-versed on the common issues to affect different people (older folks, women, minorities, etc). She was really thorough and took her time (I was with her for the better part of an hour!) and she went over not just every aspect of my health, but that of my immediate family and spent a lot of time on my lifestyle details. You can tell she built her practice on holistic care, as she has 2 nutritionists a personal trainer and a psychologist on staff, all insurance-paid. So the focus is on lifestyle fixes first and foremost (which is what it should be unless you have an acute or chronic sickness). you don't see many doctors and practice who put that much thought into holistic health care. Very impressed with that! Her office is also really clean, well lit and the decor is nice and professional. She even has ceiling tile art, how cool! On to the not so hot stuff,....a book shouldn't be judged by its cover, but lets face the facts, books are judged by their cover and rightfully so, they are part of the book! So when your front staff, the people who FIRST greet your new patients, are matter-of-fact, unclear, not professional, it can really put people off. Honestly, I'd probably have been less likely to stay, had she not come referred by another doctor who i know well and trust. I was not really greeted,...the black woman up front was not professional in how she spoke to me, at one point calling me "gurrrrl" and the white woman up front was just strange. Most places that are run like a tight ship, the staff is trained in how to speak to people, how to greet warmly, right down to scripting. This is intentionally done. C'mon man,...I'm not your girl, I'm a customer! Lastly, I showed up at 145 for a 2pm appointment. they had literally TEN pages of paperwork (please upgrade to ipads and digital!) and it literally took 20 minutes to fill out. I figured this was built into the scheduling, but that was not the case. I then sat there from 2:05pm to 340pm, when i was then triaged in the blood draw room, and then led back out to the waiting area, until 2:53pm when I finally was put in a room. Luckily, dr. waddell came in RIGHT after i came in my room (not a secondary waiting period) but point is, It was about 1hr 15min, from when i walked in, until I was seen. She's super thorough and took her time, so from that perspective i can see why timeliness can be a bit off,...but over an hour...sheesh. I wonder if that has more to do with the incompetence of the staff than her. Bottom line, if you're willing to be forgiving about the staff up front, and you get back to dr. waddell, she is really great. My recommendation for her is to hire new front desk staff, perhaps from like a fine restaurant, where they learn how to handle people/scheduling/etc while being inviting. I've been seeing Dr. Waddell for about 4 years. I have always been able to get an appointment. I've only ever had to wait "too long" once or twice. Dr. Waddell is direct and assertive, which may rub some patients the wrong way. However, I know that we aren't all socialized to sugar correct things. I appreciate that about Dr. Waddell. She has made some comments that would offend some, but for me I appreciate that she addressed risk factors head on an still maintained grace. She answers all of my questions and I have many. She caught a concerning change in my weight and openly discussed it with me. I chose the practice because it's near my workplace and it has worked out better than I thought it would. read more

As a patient and a Registered Nurse, I have experienced terse encounters with other Providers before but Dr. Waddell's presentation was a bare display of rude, insensitive, and demeaning behavior. Her inability to remain objective led to the exposure of her personal biases and ultimately a deliberate assault on my right to courteous and respectful care. Negative facial expressions, tone of voice in delivery of information, and various disrespectful quips accompanied almost every assessment during my physical exam. After the exam when I voiced my concern to Dr. Waddell, she attempted to pervert my perception--calling it a booking issue caused by her staff leading to ill-conceived expectations on my part. The only expectation I had prior to that visit was to meet and establish care with the Doctor who would become my Primary Care Provider. I have had the most ridiculous experiences at this office. I have been going to Dr. Waddell for a couple of years now and I have just excused their office and behavior too many times at this point. My recent experience: I went in last week on Monday to get some lab work done and it was sent for a culture. I was told (and know from my own experience) that this takes max two days to come back. I was put on antibiotics meanwhile in case we were right about what the problem was. Fast forward 7 days and I have yet to hear back. I called the following Monday to figure out why I never received a call. They had nothing to tell me and said the doctor received my result the day after my initial appointment and forgot to assign a task for someone to call me. I then asked the nurse to provide me with my results and tell me if I needed to take that antibiotics in the first place. She then told me that she has no idea and needs Waddell's input. I asked when I was going to hear back and she said she does not know and has to wait for the doctor. I was told I was going to receive a call before the end of the day with my results but never got a call back. It's now Tuesday and 7 days after my appointment, I finished my antibiotics which did not take care of my symptoms which means I was misdiagnosed. I still don't know what the issue was and I still have my symptoms. I have called and left voicemails with no response. This is not the first time this has happened. I've gotten labs done at least 6 times in the past couple of years and EVERY TIME I had to call the office to follow up DAYS after them getting my results. Every time I have spoken to any of the staff, they have had NO sense of urgency. They have also called my mother who has the same last name MULTIPLE TIMES to give her my results. They are as sloppy as they come. And let me mention that this is a privacy issue. The office has also tried to charge me for "missed" appointments ($80) when I never made an appointment in the first place. When I called regarding this issue, I was told there seemed to be no appointments listed and played dumb as to why I was being charged. I was told they were going to get back to me and they did not but my charge mysteriously disappeared. If you don't want to spend hours on the phone to get simple results which are a part of THEIR job then I would NOT show up at this awful and unprofessional place. So I go in to see Dr. Nikki which I had high hopes for but boy was I wrong. First of all I am not one to review but this was such a horrible experience I had to. She is persistent in her suggestions and guidance on the steps I need to take to remain healthy and free of medication. Her smile and laugh is infectious. The staff is pleasant and responsive. The most stupid doctor and staff members EVER! I would absolutely give ZERO star if I can. Dr. Waddell refused to do any types of blood testing although I was in severe condition. She said to me, you have Blue Cross Blue Shield HMO and I don't want to be in trouble by dealing with your insurance so you find the specialists and wait until they give you LabCorp slips. All I needed at that time was simple testings and when I change primary care doctor, he even suggested to do extra testings immediately. The staff members are utterly useless and unhelpful. They are not even capable of sending fax or forwarding doctor's messages to patient correctly. Inattentive and brainless. I am not sure how she graduated from school or received a medical license. The service provided by this practice is unacceptable. Dr. Nikki Waddell is completely incompetent. My wife came to her with knee pain that eventually spread to other parts of her body. I now know my wife has a chronic illness that needed proper diagnosis and early treatment. Instead, all Dr. Nikki Waddell would do is prescribe copious amounts of pain killers. Dr. Nikki Waddell refused to run any blood tests, citing liability with insurance as the reason, and made obtaining referrals more difficult than it really needs to. Obtaining referrals through this practice takes three days. Also be prepared to wait 30-45 minutes in the exam room. Unacceptable. The guy at the receptionist of this practice is also beyond incompetent. I had to ask him repeatedly to fax over paperwork. He will either fax incorrect paperwork, fax paperwork unsigned, or forget to fax anything at all. He ought to be fired. Oh, and another thing. This practice sends out e-newsletters that had a list of all patient email addresses in the To: field. I'm pretty sure that's a breach of privacy. Take me off your damn list and learn how to BCC. My wife and I have since moved to another PCP after 4 months of being toyed around by Dr. Nikki Waddell. Our new PCP generously runs blood tests, does not make us wait 30-45 minutes and turns around referrals in hours, not days. Insurance picks up the tab on everything. read more

Like a well oiled machine, I have experienced very short wait time before my appointments with Dr. Waddell. I sign in, and within minutes I am called to go in. I wish I read these reviews before I wasted my time with an appointment. An Appointment by its very definition is an arrangement to meet someone at a particular time and place. Time seems be a serious issue with this office. Maybe offices run like this; are used to people waiting until they are seen, no matter how long the wait, but after 1 hr 15 mins waiting - I left without being seen. I asked how long the wait would be - to answer me, the nurse puts her ear to the door of the room with Dr. Waddell and another patient and says it should not be long. Since this was the second time I asked and I was coming as a "New Patient"; I decided this was enough! I was directed to the front office to re-schedule but told them I was not ready to that now. The only other question they had for me, "What's your co-pay?" I said I did not see the doctor and did not expect to be charged for the visit, which they agreed to.....but I am not convinced. I have seen many doctors from different specialties much more in demand and never waited this long to see anyone, least of all someone with "AN EMPTY WAITING ROOM". To Dr. Waddell - Don't advertise in the Kingstonian Magazine that you are accepting New Patients, until you are ready to really see new patients. Although Dr. Waddell was fine, her office staff are the most incompetent I have ever encountered. Not only did the receptionist forget about me (I was the only person in the office and waited while he was on the phone, chatting with the maintenance staff, etc) for over 30 minutes, but once we began my in-processing, he was completely incapable. He could not figure out my insurance information, my HSA, or the most basic tasks. He was reprimanded for disorganization by the doctor while I was waiting, and gave me incorrect information concerning the insurance payment twice. I ended up overpaying the office and am still waiting on reimbursement, 2 months later. Dr. Waddell should do herself a service and "clean house" when it comes to her office staff. read more

Not only is she knowledgeable in her field, she also understands fully those conditions on high rise amongst minorities. I liked having Dr Waddell as my physician and was really happy with my care HOWERER, recently I needed a pre-op clearance and made an appointment in early November for the office visit one week before the surgery. This was due to my frequent travels and being out of the area. I arrived for the appointment and was told I didn't have one, they had no idea what I needed, and no appointments were available till after the surgery date. This could have caused me to cancel the surgery !. The front desk staff were uncaring, not supportive, and "put upon". I have been with Dr. Waddell's office for 5 years now. I find her to be very knowledgeable, thorough, personable and very efficient. She practices prevention medicine. Is very adept at catching issues early on so as to avoid issues down the road. Out of several doctors and emergency rooms she was the only doctor who diagnosed me properIy and I have never had such a long wait time. As with any office, the admin staff may miss a message here or there but for the most part they are few. They are always friendly and helpful. I didn't say anything when the Dr ran unnecessary tests, or when I called about having back pain and the Dr ran a whole physical resulting in me receiving a bill of almost $300 (I'm a student so imagine how that felt, after the Dr reassured me it would be covered by insurance)..because I had just had a physical by them a few months prior and insurance wasn't going to cover that. but today was the final straw....I needed a referral and to receive that I had to pay 25 for a phone consult. Yup, $25. That's MORE than the co-pay I willingly pay for an actual in person visit. With that said, I'm done. I've already found a new PCP and called insurance to switch over. Most of the reviews are correct but with one exception--I find that the staff is actually very friendly and polite. Cutting the phones off for an hour or so for lunch is annoying to patients, but it's very generous towards employees so that's great. The location is great. But overall, it just feels like your money is being sucked out of you. Oh and that back pain I mentioned? The one that cost me almost $300? She didn't say much for that, it resolved on its own months later. BUT--the PA is amazing!!! idk if she's still there, but she's super friendly, sweet and didn't make me feel rushed. read more

Must be growing pains? There is a complete disconnect between Dr. Waddell and her staff. My husband and I received the worst care possible with little to no concern of Dr. Waddell. Our insurance cards which must be presented at the time of service, clearly state that we need referrals and which lab company to use. We were in need of several referrals which never came via mail as promised, due to their archaic systems that requires a staff person to manually fill out a rerral form. I had to direct the staff person to my insurance card which clearly stated I needed referrals...she claimed I didn't (funny I own my compnay and set up our corporate plan so who knows better?). To make yet another fiasco, some lab work was done in office, other lab orders were sent in the mail. I show up to the lab that is listed on my insurance card to see they had given me a lab slip for Quest - thank you for letting me fast and get to the lab to find this out. I was able to get my husbands fixed prior to any blood draw. For the labs done in her office, they were sent to Quest creating an almost $200 bill since they didn't use my corressponding lab AS LISTED ON MY INSURANCE CARD. Being that their is no office manager the staff are left to their own means, can't ever reach the Dr. Had to send emails thru website only to not have them responded to for 3 months. Whereby Dr. Waddell says that it is my responsability to tell lab tech of my covered lab?? In all the years I've been going to Dr.'s I have never been asked which lab to use. As a fellow specialty physician, Dr Waddell is one of my top referrals for patients who do not have primary care doctors selected. She is caring, honest, thorough and direct about treatment options. I would highly recommend her and encourage patients to be understanding with doctor offices. There are many new administrative challenges our staff faces that may lead to unfortunate delays. I was seen right away upon my arrival at the clinic. However, I waited a total of 40-45 mins in the exam room between getting my vitals taken and seeing Dr. Waddell. Dr. Waddell was thorough and professional. Beware of unforeseen charges! I know for a fact that I did not sign or agree to their form charge policy since they had a new person in the front office. If you have a form that needs to be filled out, be sure to bring it on the day of visit and have it filled out while you're still in the exam room. Faxing it in even a few hours post visit will cost you anywhere from $25-$100. Ridiculous! I've never heard of any other physician charging this amount. It seems like dollar signs are valued more than patients as she was not afraid to lose a patient over this. She would not agree to waive the fee for a 1 page document so I paid the fee, got my form, and cancelled my subsequent appointment. I didnt feel like going back to a physician who did not value their clientele (with good insurance too)! read more

She's a CON ARTIST!! and will manipulate your diagnosis in order to be reimbursed from your insurance company. I went to see her STRICKLY for my annual physical and had no complaints or any past medical history to report. But she took words from our general conversation to bill for a "chronic diagnosis" in order to be paid from the insurance company. According to the affordable care act annual physicals are supposed to be covered for free but if the doctor sees you for "additional problems" they can bill you for it. She's dishonest, A manipulator, and unprofessional. I would NEVER recommend anyone see her. read more

My two stars are for the friendly office staff, especially Ana. The last 4 months I have given Dr. Waddell business and it has been a waste of time and a bigger waste of money. I've never had such expensive office visits and no resolutions. She kept trying to prescribe medications I told her I already knew didn't work for me. She seemed condescending to her staff and a majority of them appeared to be walking on egg shells. The final straw was when she was snippy with me because I asked her a health question after she had already washed her hands. I was then scolded to "...next time if you have more concerns let them know when you make your appointment so we know how long to schedule you". Fair enough. For some reason it just didn't come to mind when I made that frantic appointment. An appointment which was due to heart issues uncovered by my oral surgeon that morning and whom canceled my outpatient surgery while I was in his chair as a result of those issues.
